I...I need to sit down, that was SO GOOD! THIS SERIES ALREADY HAS MY WHOLE HEART!! Its shockingly easy to imagine Seto just stepping in with so much money and such a broad overview of everything that nobody can stop him and incidents like Jack and Yusei's feud over Stardust and the mess they made of the stadium seems like random teen drama to him!! And the way their personalities match and contrast was explored so beautifully, I completely get why they get on so well, why they understand each other, how Seto's approach is so off-hands but still shows he cares in ways that work with his standoffish personality and is such a good match for Yusei's independent one even though it probably wouldnt be effective for most other kids. I love that his reaction to the dish soap incident was clearly very genuine, he was too flabbergasted to not be, and it was still the right thing to say (as in his more unfiltered reaction was still to assure her that money isnt a worry and that even if it was hed still want her to have this) bc that makes it feel so much more like it's really them who are finding something they didnt know they wrte missing out on until they met, not an act they have to try and put on to fit in. Basically by the point Seto almost mentally called her his daughter I was absolutely in love with their relationship, and that detail frigging ascended me! And from Yusei's perspective...man her life has turned on its head, huh? She still feels so much like Yusei even in such a different circumstance than weve ever seen Yusei in canon...like, going to a real hospital when injured? Dealing with the luxury as a teenager adapting to her new home instead if with distant suspicion like with the encounters with Godwin? The incidents with Jack and Akiza do feel a lot more like manageable drama than the life threatening shit they went through in canon just bc an adult is looking over the situation with at least one of their best interests in mind (it's such a small detail but the fact he checks to see if the girl hes been looking after for 3 months and her new friend he was about to tear into moments ago had left anything in the room felt like such a responsible move, such a dad thing to think to do). And now Yusei has gotten a real education...wow. We know Yuzei is a genius, I love the idea of this version getting a chance to attend a real school, with peers, and degrees to show how smart she is and new things she hasnt had the chance to even know exist yet to learn about, and Crow is gonna be there bc of course she isnt letting him get left behind and AGH, this series seriously has my WHOLE HEART!!!
First of all, can I just say, like, thank you for the comment? Like seriously, I was doing a little dance in my seat by the time I finished reading it and just - thank you.
Man, am I glad that Seto seems in character because the whole time I was writing this I felt like I was going "in character who? don't know her". But I'm happy to hear that I was able to effectively portray how I interpret his character. And yes, he very much looks at her and Jack and Akiza and goes "ugh, teenagers" and refuses to poke that with a 10 ft pole unless he absolutely has to.
And I agree about Yusei, too. You can darn well bet that she's going to college/university and getting some degrees. And she's dragging Crow along behind her because he's not getting out of it that easily. If she gets to have this opportunity, so does he.
