Comment on Intrinsicality

  1. The premise was interesting but I'd have to pass on this.

Even though I like Hermione, I have grown quite tired of the worship she receives in Harmony fics where she is the epitome of moral superiority. And this fics seems to be heading in that direction as well where she is always on the right side of the issue.

And the Lily worship is too grating as well, where she is the sole source or reason and the entire wizarding world is filled with bigots.

"The whole thing reeked of misogyny and some mixed message that good-looking people could be smart but smart people also had to be good-looking to be of value."

I don't get what's so misogynistic about this. I get that it is trashy but really misogyny? People like to throw that word around anytime they see a man do something they don't agree with.

There was a similar line in the first chapter as well if I remember correctly, it had me rolling my eyes.

A good fic in my opinion is something that doesn't tell me the author's political views, it should present both sides neutrally and let the reader decide who is in the correct.

And Harry here seems like was created to cater to author's fantasies about a perfect boyfriend. And there's nothing wrong with it, it's just that I like my characters with a bit of flaws in them.

    1. I mean your opinion is valid, but perhaps trying to find another fanfic instead of commenting about much you had to roll your eyes at this fic? If it’s not a “good fic” in ur opinion then perhaps find another one of the billion FREE fics present in this site instead of having to leave this comment essentially telling the writer that they haven’t created a “good fic”. I am not speaking on behalf of them, but comments like this can be demoralising and they aren’t creating fanfics that are meant to cater to specific people. If this is how she likes to write the characters, then that’s how it will be done. If I don’t like the characterisation of some characters, I simply move on to another fic, it’s that easy. Perhaps think better before leaving such a comment next time.

    2. That’s precisely what Hermione’s doing, throwing the word “misogyny” around where it doesn’t really apply. She’s bright, but she’s still a teenager. And teenagers love to think they’ve got things figured out when they don’t. Hermione’s views are hers, and in no way reflect my own. They’re simply what I feel she would think, based on canon information.

Harry’s a mama’s boy and holds Lily in high regard, while Hermione is picking up on that and how she views the wizarding world as a bit backwards in some regards, just like her. I’ve in no way implied that they’re alone in these ways of thinking, but they haven’t met anyone of a similar mind, so Hermione has a small bit of esteem for her imagined view of Lily Potter.

You’re perfectly welcome to your opinion as far as my story, and you’re also welcome to go read another. Have a lovely day.

    3. I genuinely don't understand how that movie trope isn't at least vaguely misogynistic. If in the end your worth is tied to how good you look to a man, instead of him realizing that you're plenty worthy without changing anything, isn't that at least somwhat rooted in misogyny? Given your gripes I'm inclined to believe you just knee-jerk disliked the inclusion of it at all and rhat soured you to everything else.

Also idk how you can 'all sides' a fucking fanfic my dude. Particularly when Harry is asking Hermione to stop and think about her assumptions before deciding what's moral regarding house elves. This is a lighthearted fic from what I can tell, so if you're looking for protracted arguments about wizarding morals, maybe you SHOULD find a different fic. Your expectations after getting only two chapters into the story seem a mite unrealistic.
