Mara is great! So iconic; the Dark Horse Comics version of the Thrawn Trilogy is so good too, if you are ever interested in checking it out (there's a guy on youtube who did motion comics for all 3).
Prequels are great too! I feel like they add a lot of depth to the previous narrative. I like Clone Wars too, but they did Barriss dirty; in Legends she's the most talented Jedi Healer of her generation (O66 took her out on Feluca though, she got shot in the back by a walker)
I love Leia dealing with her problems with her bio dad. I got the impression that in the Disney sequels she never made peace with him being her sperm donor, but in the EU she names her third kid after him (Anakin 2.0 is amazing, btw, but we won't get into that)
