I love how the chapter opens. After the last one being so suspenseful because Cassie is fearful of Charlie possibly being a dangerous entity, this one opens up on Charlie being very much not evil and is, in fact, being sort of intimate with Kevin out of genuine love. And speaking of the intimacy, love how it’s written here! It’s not too heavy on the details, but there’s enough for us readers to get a clear picture of what she’s doing. You really your forehead touches, eh? 👀
Small note: I’m glad they’ve mostly patched up from that little argument. I like them so much better together than not (like with Chaggie haha) 🥹
Also, I simultaneously like the idea that Charlie’s technically not a demon because she’s a child of a fallen angel… and also feel like I got slapped in the face because how long have I been calling her a demon because I’ve always equated Hellborn with demons?
(Too long, which is my bad lol)
Anyways. Props to Cassie again for handling this so well! She didn’t try to hide anything or downplay her findings for fear of upsetting Charlie (which I have seen some stories do, both fanfiction and established series like… say, Percy Jackson as an example). Nope, she’s laying everything out on the table! Quite refreshing :)
I have to say, Charlie’s reaction is really interesting. I think I’ve said this before, but half of what makes it interesting is her reaction (based on not knowing who Lucifer is) versus US, the readers (who do know who Lucifer is). On my first reading, I found myself thinking “Why’s she freaking out so much?”, then it hit me and I was like, duh. Not only does Charlie not have her memories, she’s practically been raised on humanity’s perception of demons; ie that they’re all the incarnation of evil. Of course she would react this way… 1) Lucifer is the king of them all, so “Lucifer = king of evil” isn’t a hard connection to make, and 2) up until now, I feel like Charlie has been trying to mentally distance herself from the concept of demons even when she’s using her powers, which I might be misreading, but that’s what it feels like to me. Anyways, long story short is that after getting the revelation of being Lucifer’s daughter dumped on her? I don’t blame Charlie for her mini breakdown.
(On a side note, I find it inherently funny how much they’re fretting over Lucifer’s reaction when he’d probably still be a big goober at this point ha)
The ending segment was so, so sickeningly sweet, and I mean that in the best way possible. I don’t care if some people might think it’s cheesy, I really love how instead of wallowing in the despair of leaving Kevin soon, Charlie instead decides to treasure the little time she thinks she has with him. Kinda reflects the “half-full glass” attitude she had in Hell, in my opinion.
That’s all I have to say for this chapter. Really liked it, and makes my fretting from last chapter look a little silly after seeing Cassie resolve it so easily haha. I’ll be hopping to the next one soon, but in the meantime, I hope you liked this comment 💜✍🏻
Hey, to be fair here; the story is called Angel's DEMON - and anyone on Earth that sees Charlie in full power would equate her with demons, so why not the reader?
