    This sentence "Oh, and look! Dad’s Home!" Your description has given me a theory. That the smiling critters when under the influence of Angels gas will see him as their Father. I don't know how exactly it will work but I believe that the bleed over from their factory counterpart will be the cause of this.

    Since the cartoon critters are their own person and are not the factory version reborn. But they are obviously linked/connected somehow, someway. The nature of this connection is still unknown and it's unknown if it's only one-sided or did the factory counterpart also experienced it. But that besides the point.

    What I believe is since the cartoon critters are missing essential memory's, people, and ect due to their very nature of being cartoons. I believe that the bleed over is filling in those gaps from their factory counterparts memories and altering them to fit the world they inhabit. I belive they could even have editited memories from the human children that the factory critters once were.

    The reason the cartoon critters would see angel as their father is because to the factory critters, angel was the closet thing they had to a parent.

      I'll Admit That I Usually Wing It When It Comes To Writing, With Only Some Things Planned Out, But I DO Have Stuff Planned Reguarding Angel's Relationships With Both Sets Of Critters, And You Also Made Me Realise A Plothole, So Thanks For That Too.

      What I Will Say, Is That Cartoon Bubba's Frusteration Over Not Knowing If They Even Have Parents Isn't Unfounded, And The Factory Critters May Have To Cope With Seeing Something Else Other Than Their Old Parents/Scientists (Cause Orphans) Due To The Cartoon Critters L8ves Also Effecting Theirs. Mirrors Are Never Truly One Sided When What Reflects Doesn't Match.
