    Kazuma stares at him for a beat before the corner of his mouth twitches, peals of laughter cascading out afterwards. Ryunosuke gives him a confused look. “Sorry, Your Highness,” he snickers, taking the dango, “just with that red nose and full cheeks, you truly do resemble some sort of mouse. Far from a dragon.”

    Kazuma is very much enjoying teasing Ryuunosuke.
    Unfortunately,

    Kazuma lets out a small sigh. “I just mean to say to be more careful accepting these things. You never know who has a secret vendetta.”

    If I had to guess, Gina will steal something that ends up exposing a secret vendetta. Most likely Kazuma's :(
    Finally, I also loved how Ryuunosuke know exactly which bakery the pastry has come from. A true foodie.

    Edit: I just realized that no one other than Kazuma made any note of Ryuunosuke's birthday (unless you count Ryuunosuke's own note in his diary). Poor kid.

      Ooh great prediction! And absolutely, Ryunosuke may not know about all the political talk but he does know where the best food is lmao

      (tbh it wasn't my intention to make it seem like no one else acknowledged his birthday—since the narrative is filtered through Ryunosuke's pov and he's a bit of an unreliable narrator at times, Ryunosuke doesn't really want to Talk About It due to it being the prophesied year, so it doesn't really get mentioned further. But thank you so much for bringing this other interpretation of it; I can also see that happening and it really is pretty sad to think of it that way! :( But, thankfully he's starting to make new friends now...maybe next year will be better?)

        I sure hope next year will be better for him. I don't know about the other cannon we're drawing from, but I hope that it's more "personal friends celebrate with favorite pastries" and less "public holiday with political things to do" (which I think Ryuunosuke would not enjoy at all).
