Summary
Beast, he named her mother. Had he, in his vast kingdom of vanity, mistaken her for his own reflection? Beast he was, she thought, even that cringing pity employed in service of his grand design. And she, born of two worlds, but named—and thus bound—dutiful daughter of only one. It was a clever trap, ensnaring her from birth, invisible and intangible, so masterfully spun she could not move a single limb in protest. She could not have woven a net so sheer and yet so fine had she all of time at her disposal.
