Merlyn returns to Camelot after learning healing magic from the druids. Camelot looks and feels the same. Worse so does a certain King.
A King she has been best friends with for years. A King she believed got married. It was this news that broke her heart. She needed time to heal herself.
She is not aware until she returns Arthur did not marry Gwen.
Arthur hasn't changed in her time away. He is still completely overprotective of her.
Merlyn is completely oblivious. She thought time away would heal her heart. Being back in Camelot rekindles her feelings. She and Arthur could never possibly be.
For one she is the very thing she could get killed for: magic.
