When he looks at her again, however, Katniss hurriedly readjusts the smile on her face, wiping away all traces of irritation. He gestures towards the chair beside her. “Can I introduce you to my son?”
“Yes,” she breathes. An embarrassed flush warms her cheeks at the fact that she completely missed him, preoccupied with Bannock as she was. She turns, reaching down to shake his hand, only to freeze at the face that stares back up at her, slack with dread. A rush of panic runs through her, like a shot to the veins, and she falters, her knees suddenly knocking.
She could faint.
It’s the same blue eyes. The same broad shoulders. If she bent down and tucked her nose against his collar, she’s sure she’d still smell the cigarette she shared with him earlier, warm on his skin. Irrationally, she wants to rage at her mother for ruining yet another good thing for her, even if all it would have amounted to was a one-night stand.
