Summary
“You hated machines, then.” V2 stated in a matter-of-fact tone as he rubbed the motor oil they’d scavenged today into his joints. His voice was flat as always, but that didn’t phase Gabriel.
“Yes.” Gabriel shifted on the fallen tree they’ve been using as a makeshift seat for months now. He was never fond of this line of conversation when V2 brought it up, and usually he would try to change the subject. This time, however, he decided to reluctantly indulge him.
“Then why did you let me live?”
A pale, sickly blue crept up Gabriel’s wings as they bristled. He stared into the embers of the small fire in front of him. Scratch that, he hated this. He took a deep breath before answering.
“You did something I didn’t know how to do at the time. Grieve.”
In which V2 and Gabriel come to terms with the end of their worlds, and embrace the beauty of their new one.
