With quick, deft movements, Taxian-jun grabs the key to Chu Wanning’s handcuffs - on the nightstand by the bed, Chu Wanning’s chains just short enough to keep him from being able to reach - unlocks them, scoops Chu Wanning up in a bridal carry, and bursts out of the room.
Chu Wanning stares up at him as they run.
He hadn’t even thought of staying quiet, he realizes. Would that have been the right choice? Taxian-jun has killed and tortured so many people, and he’s sure to kill more. Perhaps the fire was set by a family member of one of Taxian-jun’s victims. Wouldn’t Chu Wanning’s death have been a small price to pay to rid the world of such an awful man?
