Summary
The whole continent has been ravaged and weakend by the unforseen scourge of dragons. The mighty creatures seem to be attacking out of newhere, leaving destruction in their wake. The ashy, abandoned landscape brings out orc hordes and various monsters, which overrun the land.
The Kingdom of Vere is in tatters, and the Regent's power hangs on a very thin thread. Famished and desperate citizens are on the verge of rebelling. When the young Omega prince discovers the truth about the battle of Marlas and decides to act, dominoes start to topple.
Laurent and six other Omegas are captured and paraded through the streets of Arles as a "voluntary" Sacrifice to the greatest dragon, like in the tales of old; the Regent will do anything to broker out peace and save his country, after all - even sacrifice his own nephew and the only heir...

Summary
Laurent rode beside him in silence, pale and beautiful and untouchable. To the people of Akielos, he was something of a tragic figure, a beautiful, sorrowful prize. “So sad,” they whispered in the markets and palace halls. “The poor crown prince of Vere, forced to meet his soulmate in the middle of such bloodshed. How cruel the gods can be.” They pitied him openly, even as they celebrated Damen.
