“We are the Knights of the True Cross. Turn yourself in, or we use force.”
Rin snarled at that. The stupid humans sounded way to much like the demon he had just finished fighting. Everything hit him at that moment, and Rin was pissed.
“Screw you old man!!!” He screamed, voice cracking in his bleeding throat.
The exorcists gaped, looking genuinely surprised by the outburst.
Then the idiot had to go and start laughing. “Old man!? Is that the best you got!!?? Bwahahahahahaha!!!!! My cat can do better than that!!!!”
Rin hissed furiously, hackles raising in defense and hunkering down on the road simultaneously. He was going to kill somebody. No, he was going to run. But first he was going to kill somebody.
The man wiped tears out of his eyes as his laughter trickled away. “Oh, man. You’re funny kid! Now be a good demon and turn yourself in.”
Rin hissed.
The man sighed amusedly, and took up his riffle. “Well then, okay.”

Rin had no idea how he became some stupid old man’s familiar. Not that that was abnormal, Rin typically didn’t know half the shit that was happening.

Summary
When a Tamer claims their familiar, they make a Pact that marks that demon as an ally of the True Cross and prevents other exorcists from killing them as long as the Pact stands. Shiro always said that if Rin became a demon, he would take him as his familiar.
Rin was unsealed, and Shiro wasn’t there. Yukio had to step in.
