He was falling.
Evidently, falling from the third floor of a building has a propensity towards franticity and panic. Yet, even with the rapidly closing distance between him and the ground, his focus never swayed from the slender hands extended out from the third floor. The very hands that pushed him off the precarious edge, sealing his fate.
