The first time it happens, it’s Cloud’s fault.
Zack and Cloud Fair are living the American dream: beautiful house, white picket fence, a big, healthy dog, great sex—they don’t want for anything. They dated for a year and now they’ve been married for a year. People kept telling Cloud the honeymoon feeling would wear off. It hasn’t yet. Cloud feels just as sick in love as he did from the beginning.
They’re good. They’re doing great. Which is exactly how Cloud knows it’s his fault. He’s always the one that manages to fuck a good thing up. Zack’s good luck offset Cloud’s horrid luck for some time, but it was bound to wear off.

Zack and Cloud are all there is for each other. When one starts becoming abusive and the other is already low on self-preservation, this might not be a good thing.
