Summary
Humanity met aliens and found them hostile. After many years of war, the O'stari left as suddenly and inexplicably as they arrived. Now all that remains are the descendants of the survivors, scraping out an existence in the arid wastelands of Earth. When a half-human daughter of the O'stari teams up with a disreputable scavenger to find her own origins, they discover a far more ominous truth.
Edit: I am so sorry to do this for anyone who was part way through reading it, but I had to delete most of this because it's now a published book. My pen name is P. Z. Lovell--it's difficult to find by just the title. It's now only on Barnes and Noble in the complete form. The original was unedited, but I will leave the first few (edited, finished) chapters up as a sample in case anyone wants to see if they will actually like the book. Many thanks to those who left supportive comments. There were times when you kept me going. :)
