Pax tightened his grip and didn’t let D move further.
“What are you doing?” D narrowed his optic ridges. “New lode, Pax. Let’s go.”
“No. We’re gonna get you patched up and a break,” Orion said, tugging him. “You need it.”
D-16 tugged back from Pax’s grip. “Please. We’ll get demoted so fast, don’t even try. Sentinel needs—”
Pax yanked him with surprising strength. “No,” Pax demanded, pulling D close. “I don’t care what Sentinel needs. We’re going.”

Summary
Megatron, new to leadership, anticipated betrayal from those above him, rejecting any leadership in all its forms save his own. He had not yet learned to anticipate betrayal from those beneath him.
Optimus found his former friend, looking as he did when they were miners, cog ripped from his chassis and empty once more.
As Optimus hides Megatron away while he heals, they both struggle to face the limits of strength, the burdens of leadership, their roles in the new age of Cybertron, a shared past that still draws them towards one another, the circumstances that forced them apart - and a somewhat inconvenient difference in size.
