Summary
This morning was different. The hunger in her gut was hollow and physical. The sun had yet to rise. The darkness of the moon mixed with the slow falling of snow created an out of body feeling as Natalie slipped from Lottie and out of the small shelter. She stumbled around, not quite sure what she was doing. A wave of nausea suddenly consumed her, sending her toppling to her knees, gripping her stomach. The pain was awful, like a thousand knives being stabbed into her stomach at once. She let out silent groans, muffled by her coat sleeve. She couldn’t wake the others. The pain stopped - but only for a moment.

Summary
When they didn’t see the dragon move, or hear the breaths of the boy beneath it, she fell to her knees. The chief did the same. When the people retreated towards the boats, sadness cooled the wind. The flight home had been a mournful one. Tears streamed down everyone's faces, and the chief clutched the helmet that was once his son’s to his chest like a lifeline. They hadn’t dared try and lift the wing off of the boy’s body, for fear of how it would look. They only took the single piece of armour that lay a couple feet away. His helmet the chief had given him, made of his mothers breastplate. She recalled how ridiculous he had looked with it. It was much too large and just didn’t suit him.

Summary
Sometimes at night, when the sky is extra silent, and the wind rings a little differently, Hiccup swears he hears his fathers heavy snores, and smells the odd scent he always carried - something of leather and fish. But when he opened his eyes and took a deep breath, silence surrounded him, and the only smell was that of the ocean.
