Summary
When Aerion Brightflame Targaryen was but a child, his older brother, Daeron, began experiencing odd dreams. These dreams were not something anyone in their family ever took as fact, and before too long, his brother ceased talking about them. But during an offensive puppet show at Ashford Meadow, his brother's past words come back to him with haunting clarity.
"Your fate is tied to a giant of a man," his brother had foretold, when he was but eight years old. "An alpha who will be brave enough to face your fire, and loyal enough to stay, even when burned."

Summary
After the Trial of Seven at Ashford, Ser Duncan the Tall arrives at Summerhall carrying wounds he understands—and others he does not. Prince Baelor lies broken but alive, while Prince Aerion Brightflame circles Duncan with eyes too sharp, too intimate, as if something between them was unearthed in the mud and refuses to stay buried. And within Summerhall’s walls, older, stranger things begin to stir.

Summary
Baelor lived through the Trial, escaping his own destiny. Duncan the Tall was taken into the Prince's service, a life far greater than a hedge knight could have ever wanted. A decision was settled upon Aerion: he was to be sent to Braavos for his own discipline, hoping this would change him. It was a sentence that left Maekar in a state of terror for his only Omega son.
But the gods are rarely kind to those who are cruel. A news soon struck the Red Keep; a nightmare known only to them.Taken by Pirates.
Dangerous words for a fate no one expected. Baelor, driven to get his nephew back to safety, formed a crew of men to bring him home. The duty settled on Dunk. He hadn’t cared for the boy at first, but when Baelor asked, he did not hesitate, knowing this might be the only chance to challenge his own worth.
But nothing could have prepared him for what they found. Through cruelty upon cruelty, he found a Prince he no longer recognized—someone empty, and fragile. Duncan knows his vows, but one must wonder if he can stay true to his duty while risking his life for a Prince he once hated. To even realize the truth of what they have become... and if it may already be far too late.- Language:

Summary
"Ser Duncan," Baelor says kindly. Softly. His voice is as gentle as Duncan remembers it to be. It's a warm timbre that melts like honey and Duncan is sure he can taste it. He can taste the Prince in all the ways he knows he should not. "I've missed the chance to properly greet you, though, I do recall you move quick."
Duncan knows it is a jest. He’d taken off from Ashford the moment Baelor had risen from his deathbed. He knows it is a jest because it has taken an entire spring for their paths to cross again.
But Baelor doesn't sound upset. He sounds as if he is smiling and Duncan wishes nothing more than to see, but he refuses. His gaze digs into the sweet cakes, never up at the Prince.
"Tart cakes," Baelor says, misunderstanding his staring. "You've chosen to wear the eyepatch I’ve given you?"
*
In which Baelor survives the Trial, and Duncan is sure putting distance between them will keep the Prince out of harms way.
