Summary
Shortly after Akashi Seijuurou ascends the throne of the Great Teikou Empire, he marries his childhood sweetheart, Kuroko Tetsuya, and names him Empress. Yet the Empress cannot bear a child—an unspoken truth that hangs like a shadow over the palace. But Seijuurou is the Emperor. He is expected to produce an heir.
Thus begins the selection of concubines: beautiful, cunning, ambitious and, above all, ruthless. Each will do whatever is necessary to secure a place in the Emperor’s heart and claim the coveted title of mother to the next ruler of Teikou.
