The Black Beast was no stranger to pacts. Many mortals had sought them, laying gold and flesh alike on their crude altars, chanting the songs of the stars in their primitive tongues. It had granted their wishes every time, knowing that they would not last long. The bargain, after all, was a two-way deal; each time the warlock tapped into the Entity’s power, they would lose a little bit of control. Sometimes all it took was a slip of the tongue and the bindings would disintegrate, leaving the Black Beast with a fresh new soul to devour.
Alhazred, however, was not like any of them.

Summary
In the beginning, there was only the Urge.
The desire to kill, to maim. It was all he remembered. It was what he had been, and it was what he would be. To call himself otherwise would be hypocrisy, although he did make up a name for the… companions he picked up on the way. He was, after all, not without common sense; with his memory gone, he needed to stay alive.
But none had met his criteria. None was made for his blade to rupture. None had the uniqueness for him to obsess with.
Then he met the wizard, and everything clicked into place.
