Summary
“You like sitting here, boy.”
The Captain. He is right behind her, she can feel it. She knows his steps, she knows them very well; she has learnt the acoustics of them trapped in the old wood of the ship. How then, she thinks furiously, could she have missed his approach?
She stiffens. Adrenaline, creature of arrested fight-or-flight, slithers swiftly up the column of her spine and settles on her shoulder.
Run, it whispers into her ear. Run, now.

Summary
The mirror has been replaced. It is smaller and higher. Too tall for her, in so that she can only trace a shred of her reflection pressed to the back wall. From a distance, the stranger in the glass almost looks like her.
Hermione couldn't tell you how long she'd been there. Time turns meaningless when the world forgets you exist.
And then Doctor Riddle arrives, and it's so strange, but time ticks. It doesn't matter if she wants it to. In fact, it doesn't matter what she wants at all.
The doctor knows best, after all.

Summary
Riddle stepped forward, and caught her shoulder. To any outsider, it would have looked friendly.
Intimate.
The warmth from his palm bleeding into her skin chilled her blood.
“Miss Granger,” he said, concern written into his brow, whisper quiet. “That’s a very curious statement. As Head Boy, I would be duty-bound to report any suspicions of the Dark Arts.”
He stepped closer still, to murmur directly into her ear. “Please - be very careful throwing around accusations like that.”
His warm breath ghosted over the shell of her ear. Hermione suppressed a shiver.
Every sense in her body was screaming danger.
----
Hermione rarely failed. She even had a simple plan:
1. Leave the world a better place
2. Get back to her war, intact
3. Avoid attracting the ire of the nascent Lord Voldemort
(Hermione failed)
