((This is a scene study for me in information reveal. This scene starts out relatively simple, and over the course of it more and more information about the complicated situation is revealed. Lots of angst. I wrote this because I was in my feelings and thought I'd share it with those who are interested.))

In a modern kingdom, Prince Stiles Stilinski is considered the world's most desirable omega. As ruler of the politically critical principality of Longfire, for the last two years Stiles has been relentlessly pursued through the courts by two alpha princes of neighboring principalities, both claiming they have imprinted on him. Stiles, a brilliant and calculating diplomat, has been running his principality since he was fifteen and has always known his mating would be politically motivated. Stiles doesn't believe either of the alpha princes have actually imprinted on him, and are just looking to gain clout through the marriage. However, when a crisis breaks out internationally, Stiles agrees to enter into a probationary union with Prince Derek Hale-- provided Hale can deliver on his political promises. Now both Dorf and Derek are up for re-election. Derek's sister Laura, a famous political pundit, becomes the chief campaign strategist for Derek's opponent, a liberal beta named Jared Keane. Derek is shocked to discover Laura has hired Stiles as a researcher for Keane's campaign, and even more shocked to discover Stiles is now personally involved with his political rival. Soon the secrets from Stiles' past threaten to rock the election as Derek finds himself haunted by a relationship that never really died and the truth nobody ever knew.

But can Derek keep Stiles when the omega knows deep down he'll always be second in Derek's life?
