Summary
Heaven won the war, and Aziraphale has finally earned the Archangels' respect, but at what cost?
Convinced that Crowley has died in the war, Aziraphale has lost whatever loyalty he still had towards Heaven, but he knows better than to antagonise his superiors. So, when they offer him a demon slave as a reward for his exemplary service during Armageddon, he has no choice but to accept.

This takes place roughly between chapter 7 and 8 of Heaven is not fit to house a love like you and I. The time Aziraphale and Crowley spent in the bookshop as Crowley gradually lost his fear of the angel, but before they actually got together.
Basically, Crowley's still a mess, and they each have their own ideas of what the other wants. They somewhat understand each other eventually, but there's still a long way to go.
