“Grover, did you invite Juniper over?” Annabeth flinches when she hears Percy’s loud voice. Damn, Annabeth. Really set yourself up here, didn’t you?
“No, I don’t think so,” Grover replies.
“Oh, well. I’ll get it,” Soft footsteps approach the door.
Deep breaths.
Annabeth hears the doorknob turn, panicking inside. The door opens, and Percy appears in its place. Annabeth is stunned into silence. It feels like it's been forever since they saw each other.
“Hi,” Annabeth’s voice is soft and shaky.
“Annabeth.”

“Percy, I…” Percy forces himself to meet her eyes, trying not to think about her hand retreating, leaving his forehead cold.“Your friendship means the world to me, and- and I want to say something, but I don’t want it to… ruin our friendship.”
Percy’s eyes soften, leaning against the wall alongside Annabeth, trying to ease her obvious nerves. “Annabeth. You know that there's nothing you could do to make me want to stop being friends with you, right?” She nods, but a tear springs to her eyes nonetheless. “It’s really important to me that you know that. Nothing you can say will deter me from annoying you.”

“You were doing great, what happened?”
“I-I guess your explanation didn’t cut it.” REALLY? Still flirting, at a time like this?
“Oh, really?” Mike steps up to the challenge, raising one eyebrow. Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit. Is Mike Wheeler flirting back with him right now?
“Yeah. Maybe a more thorough demonstration would do. You know, help me feel what it's like to be steady on the ice?”
“What you’re gonna wanna do,” Mike’s breath is uncomfortably warm and close to Will’s ear. “Is bend your knees a little bit,” He’s grateful to be turned away from Mike, as his body is suddenly warm everywhere.
Mike rests his hands on Will’s waist, just over the hem of his sweater.
“Put your arms out for balance.”
In doing so, his sweater lifts ever so slightly, allowing one of Mike’s fingers to slip down and lay on Will’s bare skin. Mike’s hands are too cold and too hot all at once, leaving goosebumps to rise on Will’s stomach. He exhales a shaky breath.

Or Mike and Will are cooped up inside during a snowstorm and decide to sneak out for some fun on the ice.
When disaster strikes, Will and Mike are left to confront their true feelings.
