Ilya said something—too fast, Shane only caught his own name—and his eyes were wide and terrified.
Shane's throat was tight. He didn't know how to say you hit your head or you need to stay still. He knew colors and numbers and я не понимаю, which wouldn't help.
"Ты...ударил голову," Shane tried, mangling the grammar. You hit head. "Врачи...помогают тебе." Doctors helping you.
Probably wrong. Probably ridiculous. But Ilya stopped thrashing. His breathing evened out and his eyes stayed locked on Shane's face like Shane was the only thing that made sense.

He needed a break from the arguing and he needed to go somewhere he could breathe and collect his thoughts, so he could process this correctly and talk about it with Ilya civilly. Everything was still suffocating and overwhelming and Shane needed out, needed to go sit in his car and drive in silence to his parents’ place.
