Summary
Alina Starkov and Aleksander Morozova have finally found their way back to each other after he returned from dead.
Now that The Black General has become the new Regent of West Ravka, and he and Alina have been expecting twins, it would seem that things will finally start to look better in this country ravaged by constant military conflicts and the inept rule of the Lantsov dynasty.
The problem is that the young Tsar Nikolai will do everything in his power to prove that he is a better ruler than the Darkling, engaging himself in a very dangerous political marriage with the Shu-Han Princess. Meanwhile, Alina's pregnancy turns out not to be exactly what she imagined. In her quest to solve the mysteries of the past, the future queen of Ravka will inadvertently become entangled in the secrets of the Morozova family, which will – as it turns out – lead her to the mysteries of her own origin.
