Summary
Knight-Commander Nicole Haught spent years honing herself into a protector, a guardian of her Circle of Magi and the mages and templars under her command. She was responsible for their safety, their security, and most recently, the reform of some of the more despicable practices of the Templar Order. Her place within this world was certain and secure.
One fateful day, that security was thrown into question by an apostate mage, a girl dragged into Nicole's office and thrown to the flagstones at her feet. Not only was this girl an illegal mage, subject to punishment at Nicole's discretion - she was also an omega. Until very recently, any omega mage in a Circle of Magi would have been destined for execution or the mind-searing Rite of Tranquility. However, there was one way open for Nicole to save an omega mage from that fate: she could bind the girl to herself, taking all responsibility for her welfare and sanity upon her own head.
Nicole knew that the demands placed upon her would test her strength. Little did she suspect how much they might try her heart.
