Games You Play

Summary:

When Athena Cykes is alone, she likes to play 80's music and dance. She never thought that her hobby could end with her finding love.

Excuse for me to stay up late and write some lawyerdorks.

Chapter 1: Faith

Chapter Text

It wasn’t often that Athena had the office to herself. Usually Apollo or Mr. Wright or Trucy or any other of Phoenix’s colorful friends were around, even if the other lawyers weren’t. There was never a dull moment at the Wright Anything Agency, but when everyone else was gone, Athena had to do something to entertain herself.

Sometimes it involved turning on the TV and watching old reruns of The Steel Samurai, others she would clean the toilet until it shined, to relieve Apollo of the task. Most times, she would turn on the radio and dance around.

This one particular day, Apollo and Phoenix were working on a big case, and Athena had been left to take care of the office while Trucy was at school. It was quiet and lonely, so it was obvious that some tunes were in order. Today, it was a station playing 80’s hits, which Athena loved. In her opinion, the synth was one of the best things to happen to music in the past 100 years. While she was dancing around to Depeche Mode, using the spinny chairs and the desks in the office as props for her choreography, she got too distracted to notice the front door unlock. The song’s notes faded away, being replaced by the upbeat dance-pop of George Michael.

“Well, I guess it would be nice…” Athena sang, bopping around to the music with her back to the door. She spun around, still singing with her eyes closed. “If I could touch your body… I know not everybody…” Before she knew it, she crashed into Apollo, who had a dorky grin on his face.

“Has got a body like you!” Apollo sang back, busting out his chords of steel. Athena stopped, blushing intensely. She tripped over one of the chairs on her way to steady herself, and ended up with her ass on the floor.

“Little flat there, ‘Pollo.” Athena said, trying to deflect the embarrassment off of her.

“I was definitely in tune!” He protested, giving a small chuckle. Her face was still red, even as he extended a hand to help her up. She took it, clutching onto it tightly as she pulled herself up to her feet, covered in floor junk.

“Definitely flat. Thanks, by the way.” Athena winked at Apollo, before righting her chair and sitting back down in it. “I got a bit into it. It’s a good tune.” She looked down at her notes, trying not to look at Apollo. She had a bit of a crush on him, and now she looked like a total doofus in front of him. “But it’s not the best song to duet with a coworker.”

“Why not?” Apollo asked, plopping down into his chair. It slid over to her in one fluid motion, making him look smooth and suave. Athena couldn’t help but swoon a little as he got closer to her. He wasn’t very far away… she could feel his warmth on her skin from the mere centimeters between them.

“Well, it wouldn’t be professional if I were to touch your body… In that way.”

“But not everybody has a body like me!” Apollo responded, laughing at his own joke. “I’m kidding. I’m not that full of myself.”

“That’s what you think.” She teased, playfully punching him in the arm. Oh. He works out. Athena thought, her face going red again.

“You just touched me.” Apollo protested, laughing along. He was picking up on the redness in her face, and hoped that meant what he thought it meant. He had been harboring feelings for her for quite some time but he was never able to catch her in a situation where he could use his bracelet to determine how she felt. Even if he had, he wasn’t sure he wanted to know. It would probably suck finding out that she didn’t like him.

“But that’s not your body, Apollo.” Athena protested, standing up to emphasize her point.

“Objection! It’s my arm. Which is part of my body, Thena.” Apollo replied, standing up to counter her movement. She blushed again, swooning internally when he called her by her nickname.

“Hold it! But it’s not… The song isn’t talking about touching your arm.” Athena rolled her eyes and crossed her arms, waiting for Apollo’s next statement.

“Then what would you consider my body?” Apollo asked, looking smug. The corner of his mouth was curled into a snarky smirk, but he was quickly caught off guard by Athena touching his chest and rubbing her hand down his torso.

“Take that. That’s touching your body.” Athena laughed, before realizing that she was actually touching Apollo’s chest. In the office. During work hours.

            “This’ll make things complicated.

“Widget! Shut up!” Athena shouted, covering the robot necklace with her gloved hand. Apollo was blushing, grabbing a clipboard while Athena was distracted, to hide the bulge in his pants that he knew he shouldn’t have. “Apollo, what are you doing?” She asked, catching him mid-grab.

“Uh… Taking notes. Just in case this comes up… in a case.” Now both of their faces were red with dorky embarrassment. Apollo tried to awkwardly move out of the office, possibly to the bathroom to take care of himself, but Athena stopped him.

“Wait. No. Please don’t go away.” She protested, trying to keep her eyes off of his crotch. She was hearing a definite bit of discord in his voice, and coupled with his penguin waddle, she was intrigued.

“What do you want?” Apollo shouted back, accidentally sounding louder than he wanted to. He felt bad, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly, but his sudden snapping already startled Athena, causing her to step back and grip the desk.

“I meant. I want your stupid face to go away!” She bellowed, irritated by Apollo’s tone. Apollo scrunched his face up in confusion, looking back at her with the clipboard still over his pants.

“Fine!” He retaliated, looking her up and down, all covered in yellow and blue and crumbs and dust and lint from the floor.

“We should go out!” Athena shouted again, speaking before thinking. Immediately her pale face turned beet red, but she tried to hide it behind a stern, lawyerly gaze.

“Fine!” Apollo replied, looking her dead in her blue eyes.

“What?” Athena looked at him, widget going as yellow as her suit from her shock. She didn’t think that that would actually work.

            “SIX THIRTY.”

“MAKE IT SEVEN AND IT’S A DATE.”

“I’M FINE. I mean. That’s fine.” Both of their heads were reeling. Neither could remember why they started screaming, but somehow they had ended up screaming their way into a date. “Seven is better. I uh… Have a… case to work on.” Apollo mumbled, taking the clip board out of the office with him. Athena laughed to herself, sitting down at the desk again to contemplate what the hell had just happened between the two of them. Whatever it was, she liked it.

Athena had been scared that their antics would ruin the situation they had. They were coworkers, roommates by necessity… if they crashed and burned, it wouldn’t be pretty. Neither could leave Mr. Wright, as he was their mentor and had taught them everything that they knew, and they were both too broke to move out on their own. She could sense the worry that Apollo carried in his own heart, but he also had an overwhelming sense of hope. The least Athena could do was believe as much as he did that everything would turn out all right.

Dinner went by quickly, the two exchanging smiles over bad French food that they were supposed to like because it was expensive. They did more talking than eating, goofing around to try to avoid thinking about the bill that they probably couldn’t afford.

“I thought Mr. Wright was just exaggerating about how bad this place is.” Athena said, making faces at the unidentifiable item on her plate. “Guess we should have listened to him.”

“I mean, we are talking about the man who thinks that Eldoon’s Noodles are the epitome of fine dining.” Apollo added, poking at what he thought was supposed to be coq au vin. While laughing about his boss’ taste in cuisine, he noticed that Athena’s hand was resting on the table. They were on a date, but he was still nervous. Besides her questionable definition back at the office, they had never really touched, and he was scared that he would scare her away if he did anything before she was ready. Athena noticed him deep in thought, staring at her hand, and held back a giggle. She hoped Widget would keep its mouth shut, because she didn’t want this date to be dictated by a robot with loose lips.

“To be fair though, Eldoon’s is pretty good.”

“If you have a glass of water to wash it down with.” Apollo retorted, slipping his hand closer to hers without actually touching it. It was killing him to not have her right near him, but he didn’t want to rush things at all.

“At least it’s identifiable.” Athena teased, pointing at his plate with her free hand. “Mon dieu. Are you sure that’s coq and not…” She stopped herself, bursting into laughter before she could finish her sentence.

“You’re a dork, Thena.” Apollo said, chuckling to himself while closing the distance and placing his hand on hers.

“I really like it when you call me that, ‘Pollo.” Athena whispered, her face looking warm, but with a certain sadness in her eyes. For a split second, she panicked, pulling her hand away from his, which made his smile turn into a frown.

“Thena?” He asked, hoping that he didn’t ruin everything already by holding her hand. She hesitated, then slid her hand back over and interlocked her fingers with his. “Are you all right?”

“It’s nothing. Let’s go home. OctoNinja is going to be on at 10.” She forced a smile and winked, which made Apollo’s bracelet tighten around his wrist. He was worried about what was affecting Athena, but he wouldn’t perceive her in the middle of a shitty restaurant.

“OctoNinja! We can’t miss that!” Apollo slapped a few bills on the table, leaving a tip even though the service was miserable and the food even worse, and hooked his arm around Athena’s waist. He already knew that she would smell like a seductive blend of jasmine and some other flower he couldn’t identify, as it would scent their whole apartment whenever she showered. Her skin was somehow already warm and familiar, from all the times he had dreamt about holding her.

Athena felt comforted by Apollo next to her. She leaned into his chest until they realized that walking the way they were was clumsy and uncomfortable and ended with them bumping into doors and fire hydrants and other urban obstacles.

It didn’t take them long to get back to their apartment, both of them throwing off their work clothes in favor of more comfortable attire. Athena grabbed a couple blankets from the bedroom and brought them over to the couch, wrapping them around both her and Apollo. She leaned her head on his shoulder, still being incredibly cautious as to not overstep her boundaries, and he pulled her closer.

Apollo’s skin was soft against hers, pressing against the small of her back where her tee shirt had ridden up. Her head was getting dizzy with the feeling of just being near him, breathing in his warmth, that she wasn’t sure what to do. They were cuddling. She knew that. He liked her. She liked him. They were watching OctoNinja which was the best bad movie she had seen in years, but all she could think about was what it would feel like to kiss Apollo.

Athena must have been staring for an entire commercial break, not thinking much about it, when Apollo looked over. “What?” he asked, blushing. “Do I have something green in my teeth?” He covered his mouth, embarrassed, but Athena pushed his hand away.

“You’re a dork, Mr. Justice.” Athena whispered, getting so close that she was practically on his lap.

“Objection! You’re the one who was dancing around to George Michael alone in the office.” Apollo argued. “I believe that you are the dork, Ms. Cykes.”

“At least my last name isn’t my profession.” Athena teased, poking him in the side. However, she hadn’t expected him to be so ticklish. He giggled and thrashed, and pulled Athena onto his lap to try to keep her from prodding him any longer.

“It’s part of my professi—“ Athena cut him off with her looking up at him, which caught him off guard. The room was dark, illuminated only by the light of the TV, and the way that the shadows danced on her face was almost magical. It seemed like time slowed down as the distance between their lips closed, Athena throwing her arms around Apollo’s neck to kiss like in the movies. Thankfully, she didn’t dork it up, like she had been worried that she would.

The kiss started off soft and chaste, with them exploring each other’s lips, but as their heads clouded with lusty fog, their kiss deepened. Athena’s tongue fought for entrance to Apollo’s mouth, pushing past his teeth to entwine with his own. Apollo’s hand slipped up her shirt, grasping her bare back underneath the cottony fabric. Athena grabbed onto the material of his tee, trying to find at least one way to remain grounded as her head spun off into the sky. She was about to pull at Apollo’s shirt to remove it when they both hit back down to Earth at crashing speeds.

“Are you sure we should be doing this?” Athena asked, folding her hands in her lap and looking down at her electric blue polished nails. Apollo could feel the tension, both from himself and from the tightening of his bracelet. It caused an uncomfortable feeling in his stomach that he was almost certain wasn’t from their dinner. “I mean. We haven’t. We could forget we did this. Go back to coworkers and roommates. If we… you know… we can’t do that. Things could get weird. I don’t want them to get weird.”

“Do you want to stop?” Apollo asked, raising an eyebrow. “Because if you want to stop then we can stop.”

“Do you want to stop?” Athena asked, fiddling with her fingers. “Because I’m okay with it if you’re okay with it but if you’re not okay with it then I’m okay with that too.”

“Well I’m okay either way.” Apollo shrugged, not sure how to even process this. He knew her points were valid. They could ruin everything that they had and he didn’t want to do that. She was his friend. But at the same time he really liked her and everything about her made him go crazy. If he had more time, he’d spend a day drinking beers with his best friend, Clay, and soul searching for advice… but he didn’t have more time. This was a fuck or forget situation and he wasn’t sure what answer was the right answer.

“What if we flip a coin?” Athena asked, getting up from Apollo’s lap to find one somewhere in one of their junk drawers. She dug around for a while, but couldn’t even find a Canadian penny to fill the void. Instead she found a bag of stale jelly beans in the cabinet, and dumped out all the candies except for two beans. “This will have to do. Pink means we keep on. Black means we stop.” Athena explained, handing the bag to Apollo. “No peeking. Pick.”

Apollo stuck his hand in the bag, his heart fluttering at the do or die prospect of this exercise. He grabbed one of the candies and pulled it out, handing it to Athena before opening his eyes. “What’s the verdict?”

“It’s black.” Athena said, a frown on her face. “But I believe that the bean gods have given us a stupid decision, and I have decided to ignore it. No one likes black jelly beans anyway.” She tossed the candy to the table and grabbed Apollo’s hand, pulling them towards their bedroom. Athena was nervous, but excited, and could sense that Apollo was feeling good about this as well. It had been a while since she had done anything with anyone and she was a little self conscious, but Apollo was… Apollo. She pressed her lips to his again, kissing him deeply before they both fell to his bed, impeccably made as always.

Apollo laid her down on the bed, looking her body over in the darkness of their bedroom. “God Thena. You’re so beautiful.” He mumbled, nipping and kissing at her neck. He pushed up the bottom of her t-shirt to expose her soft stomach, lightly defined with muscle from her daily runs. “Is it okay if I touch you?” He asked, wanting to make sure that she was comfortable with everything that he did before he did it.

“Mmhmm. I’d like that very much.” She replied, guiding his hand up her shirt and over her breasts. Athena gasped at the feeling of his fingers ghosting over her flesh, and flopped her arms back against the bed. Apollo began tugging at her shirt, and she adjusted so that they could slide it off, leaving her top exposed. Athena grinned, shoving Apollo’s shirt up and off to meet hers on the floor.

She slid her hand over his toned flesh, feeling it now without his suit over it. He felt sturdy and comforting, and his brown eyes were safe and soft. Apollo kissed clumsily down Athena’s neck, to her shoulders, then down to one of her breasts. He left dark marks with his mouth on her flesh, which would have to be covered to avoid Mr. Wright’s suspicion in the morning, but at that moment neither of them cared.

Apollo took her pink nipple into his mouth and sucked on it until he elicited a moan from Athena’s mouth. It was soft—so soft that he almost missed it, but it was a sign that she liked what he was doing. His mouth came off her nipple with a pop, leaving it red, swollen, erect, and sensitive. He went to press his mouth to the other, playing with the newly freed one with his thumb and index finger. Athena moaned again, gripping a the immaculate comforter beneath them.

“Pollo. More.” She said, curling her body up to try to kiss him once more. He obliged, slipping his tongue into her mouth while he tugged on the sweatpants that she was wearing. Athena bucked her hips up to aide in sliding them off, and pushed her panties down with them. Apollo was rather disappointed that he couldn’t build up the suspense, but his pulsing cock was already peeking through the slit in his boxers and he was going crazy with want. “Please.”

“Well, because you asked nicely…” Apollo teased, kissing down her stomach, but skipping right over her sensitive bits. He pressed hot, wet kisses to her inner thighs, building the tension and arousal between her legs to the point where she was about to explode.

“Get to it, Justice!” Athena shouted, unable to take the suspense any longer. Apollo gleefully obliged, slipping his mouth between her legs to her throbbing cunt. He licked flat and hard up the length of her folds, then quickly flicked his tongue to a point over her clit. She moaned loudly, reaching a hand to the back of his head. Athena grabbed at Apollo’s hair, begging him to continue to please her. He sucked her clit into his mouth, filling her with sensation until her insides were about to spill over. Before she knew what was happening, she felt the all too familiar feeling of tingling behind her teeth, and she knew she was gone. Her moans turned into screams of pleasure, shouting Apollo’s name over and over again.

He didn’t let up on his handiwork, continuing his masterful tonguing as she came down from her orgasm, leaving her out of breath and speechless. Her throat was a little hoarse from all her moaning, but she didn’t want to quit. “Who knew you had that in you.” Athena jested, chuckling between her heavy breaths. She got up on her knees, still a little wobbly from her orgasm, and pushed Apollo back onto the bed. He gasped, looking a little surprised.

“Is this okay?” Athena asked, rubbing his hard, weeping cock through the fabric of his boxers. Apollo nodded back, making garbled noises because nothing seemed to come out right while thinking about Athena sucking his cock. “Good.” She replied, pulling down the clothing so that she had access to all of him. Athena was pleasantly surprised at Apollo’s length, but glad that she wasn’t going to mess up her jaw.

“God, Mr. Justice. You’re sooo hard.” She almost giggled to herself, but she was trying to be sexy and not dorky, no matter how hard that was.

“Mr. Justice? Kinky.” Apollo said with a grin, watching as Athena took his cock into her hand. His breath hitched, feeling intense waves of pleasure from her strokes. He hadn’t jerked himself off before their date, even though he really had wanted to. Now, he was paying the price. He wasn’t sure that he was going to be able to last that long, but he didn’t want to embarrass himself by cumming too early. “Now what are you planning to do, Ms. Cykes?”

Athena smirked, leaning down so that Apollo could feel her breath on his crotch. She wasn’t exactly sure what to say… her dirty talk needed a refresher course, but she was hoping that she could shut him up by wrapping her mouth around his cock. She was rather rough at first, which was uncomfortable and awkward, but she found her rhythm pretty quickly, sending Apollo squirming so much that his sheets were coming untucked. “Jesus, Thena.” He shouted, bucking his hips to fuck her mouth deeper. He was getting so close, he couldn’t handle it any more. Athena swirled her tongue around his head one last time, and he came hard into her mouth. She removed herself from him with a pop, and swallowed.

They were both so dizzy and placated that they just laid there for a while, holding each other on top of the now disheveled covers. After resting and catching their breath, Athena snagged Apollo’s t-shirt from the floor and claimed it as her own, handing him his boxer shorts to wear so that he was at least semi covered. Their beds were both doubles, so the space was tight, but neither found it hard to fall asleep whilst holding each other. The covers ended up kicked to the floor and their small amounts of clothes were sticking to their skin from sweat, but what else could they expect in a small apartment with a broken air conditioner in the middle of June in LA? Despite the heat, they managed to remain entwined all night, soothed by each other’s scents and the energy between them.

However, their slumber didn’t last until morning, with Athena stumbling out of bed in the middle of the night…
