Chapter Text
It’s been raining nearly three days straight only stopping every now and then for a quick break before hailing it down again. The busy streets of seoul are still filled with people but to its credit the rain has kept a fair few indoors.
Namjoon and Jin are walking back home from the store doing some shopping so Jin can make dinner.
“Do you think we got enough?” Namjoon says sarcastically carrying two bags in each arm while jin only carries one full of bread and ramen. Namjoon curses for being so bad a rock paper scissors.
“Are you questioning my amazing judgment?” Jin says jokingly tutting and turning his head away.
“Wel mr good judgment, where are we?” Namjoon replies with a smirk.
“What?” Jin asks finally looking around realising he's taken them down a wrong turn leading them into an ally. And of course the rain starts to pour again.
“Great” Namjoon says pulling out an umbrella and putting it up to cover the two.
Before Jin can come up with some sort of excuse as to how he's managed to get them slightly lost they are both distracted by a growl coming from further down the alley. They turn to see what's happening cautiously, Jin may have gotten them a bit lost but hes not stupid.
Well that is until he hears a squeal of fright coming from the ally and his feet seem to take over walking him down the alley. Namjoon is momentarily surprised because as far as he is concerned Jin is the biggest wuss he knows besides from maybe Hoseok. “Wait a second Jin” he says following quickly after him.
“Look” is all Jin says when they finally get a better view. They see a dog growling at a cardboard box that's laid on its side. What the box had done to the dog they weren’t sure but it was determined to get it. Now Namjoon has always been a dog lover but he can safely say that this stray was mean looking. Its teeth are bared and it's practically drooling as it growls.
Snapping him out of his thoughts the dog lunges forward biting at something in the box. The next thing they know they hear a loud cry of pain that made Jins heart fall out of his chest. Without another thought Namjoon loudly claps his hands shouting at the dog to scare it away. As it takes off Jin rushes to the box not worried about getting wet from the rain.
As he gets closer he can hear a slight sniffing and he can see the box shaking. He stops in front of the box before slowly taking a peek to see what is crying. He was shocked to say the least, he's not sure what he was expecting but a small teenage boy with black bunny ears atop his head wasn’t one of them.
Jin hears a slight inhale behind him “a hybrid” namjoon says sounding as shocked as Jin looks. Hybrids are a dying breed, very few were still around and the ones that were usually lived in the countryside to better suit their needs. Hybrids were pretty rare to begin with but when people started to buy into the trent of buying them for their children they tended not to live very long from lack of proper care.
“What’s a hybrid doing here?” Namjoon asks nobody in particular but in saying so he seems to scare the bunny, he scurries back as far into the box as he can trying to get away from them as well as the rain, not that it would make a difference seeing as he is soaked through. Jin looks back at namjoon and makes a quieting notion before slowly and carefully moving towards the box but stops as he hears more wimpers.
“Hello” Jin says as gently as he can. The bunny hides his head in his knees hoping that it would somehow make them go away. “Its okay we won't hurt you, i’m Jin and this is Namjoon” he says motioning behind him. “What’s your name sweetheart?” He asks. Jin isn’t exactly sure how old the hybrid is but from what little of him he can see he looks very small in mass.
The hybrid just shakes his head again hiding his face behind his hands but in doing so he winces. Jin seems confused until namjoon speaks quietly behind him “look at his arm, that dog must have got him” he says slightly angry making the bunny shiver more.
Jin shushes the bunny while looking as his arm, he can see blood dripping down his arm along with water from the rain, the box not exactly being waterproof.
“Hey can you come out of there pease” Jin asks. The hybrids shakes his head roughly making Jin sigh. “Please I just want to help I promise, nothing bad is going to happen to you, you're not alone anymore”. The hybrid looks up at him letting Jin finally get a good look at his deep brown doe eyes almost being too big for his face. The bunny seems to be thinking before shakingly holding out his pinky finger.
Jin looks at it a moment before Namjoon coughs slightly behind him “I think he wants you to pinky promise” he says with a gentle smile. The bunny nods firmly still holding his finger out trying to seem somewhat confident but not being able to hide the anxious shake in his body. Jin gives a warm smile before gently locking their pinckys together. Jin was expecting him to be cold but somehow he was warm to the touch.
With that the bunny slowly and cautiously came out from the box letting the others get a good look at him. He has dark brown, nearly black hair, a small frame, in fact they can see his rips through his soaking wet shirt. His clothes are soaking and ripped, he's wearing only a white t-shirt and ripped jeans which Jin is sure weren't meant to be ripped.
Jin motions in front of him and the hybrid sits in front of him letting Jin hold his arm out. Namjoon holds the umbrella over them both trying to keep the rain away. The bunny keeps his eyes glued on the two as if waiting for a que to run.
“This looks pretty painful” Jin says looking around his arm. He must get too close to it because the bunny lets out a small whimper making Jin want to cry for being the one to hurt him “I’m sorry darling, i know it hurts”, but when Jin looks up to his face he sees his eyes get misty and his body become relaxed. Jin rushes forward just in time to catch him pulling him into his lap.
“Shit” namjoon says kneeling down, slight panic clear on his face. “We better get him back”. Jin just nods in agreement standing up with the bunny in his arms as Namjoon takes off his coat and outs it over the hybrid.
“He’s so light Joon, I can feel his bones” Jin says with tears building up in his eyes. Namjoon places a comforting hand on his shoulder,
“he’s going to be okay, we will make sure of it”.
Namjoon can tell by the look in Jins eyes that he is already protective of the little bunny so he does all he can to encourage him that he is going to be okay, even if he isn’t sure on that himself. Even he can admit that he is worried.
Without anymore thought they both rush towards home, Jin hugging the small hybrid in his arms trying his best to protect him from the rain.
