Work Text:

The night Kaminari was having was a disaster, but he supposed his life was due for one. Things were getting too good, right? By some stroke of luck, he got one of the smartest people at his college to tutor him. Bakugou was a tough teacher, but extensive alone time with him somehow turned into a romance. Within months he had good grades and a boyfriend. Things were going too well for him for something to  not  happen.

An hour ago, werewolves had been a fictitious thing. Now Kaminari was running through the woods, desperate to find one.

“KATSUKI!” He cried out for the millionth time.  God, why didn’t he listen?  Bakugou told him to leave him alone for a couple nights; said he’d be far too busy to deal with Kaminari. At the time Kaminari had assumed he was busy and stressed out. His plan was to show up with some of Bakugou’s favorite snacks and drinks, a few words of encouragement, then leave him be. Of course, if Bakugou ended up needing a little more comfort, he’d be more than glad to stay longer.

When Kaminari opened the door to the apartment, there was a tense and off feeling. The clutter and darkness in the apartment was concerning. Considering how much of a neat freak Bakugou was, it was odd that he’d ever leave his apartment this messy. Kaminari didn’t shut the door behind him when he walked in, unsettled.

I shouldn’t be here right now,  raced through his head on repeat, but he didn’t leave. He wanted to call out for Bakugou, but had an intense feeling that he shouldn’t speak.

A growl echoed down the hallway, and Kaminari froze to the spot, blood running cold.  I should run and slam the door behind me,  he faintly thought as his eyes adjusted to the dark, fixating on the golden wolf a few yards away from him. It’s predatory eyes were far from any expression Bakugou had ever made, but Kaminari  knew  it was him.

“H-hey, Katsuki,” Kaminari said dumbly, slowly raising a hand. In a flash, his body was slammed to the ground, head ringing from the force of the blow. One of Bakugou’s paws dug into his shoulder painfully as the beast snarled above him. “You wouldn’t hurt me, right, Katsuki?” Kaminari wheezed, his free hand gently brushing at the fur on Bakugou’s neck.

The wolf froze, eyes focusing on Kaminari’s before growling and snapping at his hand. For a second, he was sure he lost his hand, but his body hadn’t registered the pain yet. A scream caught in his throat, too stunned to properly react. To his surprise and utter relief, he realized his hand wasn’t torn off. Bakugou’s teeth dug into the skin, threatening to draw blood, but it was still very much intact.

“It’s okay,” Kaminari promised. “I trust you.”

Bakugou whined, a heartbreaking sound that left Kaminari momentarily forgetting what a dangerous position he was in.  Was his boyfriend okay?

As quickly as the situation began, it was over. His hand was released and Bakugou ran off. For what was definitely several minutes, Kaminari didn’t move. There was barely a coherent thought running through his head. His heart pounded and his body was tense with fear despite the cause of that fear running somewhere outside.

Finally, he pushed himself up, legs shaky. Despite the fact that he should go home and pretend that nothing happened, Kaminari couldn’t let Bakugou run loose outside. Maybe it was dumb, but he found himself more scared for his boyfriend than he did for himself.

Kaminari looked for Bakugou until his legs ached and his voice had gone hoarse from calling out his name. When the sun was starting to show over the horizon, he trudged back to Bakugou’s apartment. Seeing the door closed told Kaminari that Bakugou had gotten home at some point. He didn’t remember shutting it when he ran out.

The apartment was still dark and in disarray, but the sense of fear he felt last time wasn’t present. Making his way to Bakugou’s room, Kaminari paused at the doorway and stared at the lump on the bed. If Bakugou knew that Kaminari was there, he didn’t say anything.

“Katsuki?” he announced himself before pulling back the covers. Bakugou was awake, glancing up tiredly at Kaminari. The bags under his eyes were heavy and there was a smear of red on his cheeks.

Who’s blood is that?  Kaminari couldn’t help but wonder, hoping it was an animals. “I’m sorry.”

“I told you to leave me alone for a few days.” Bakugou’s eyes fell closed, eyebrows pinched. He didn’t sound angry, but somehow this was worse. It was like he wanted to be angry, but was too emotionally drained to do anything about it.

“I had to find out eventually.”

“I could have killed you.” Bakugou swallowed hard and shook his head. There was more emotion in his voice than he was allowing to show on his face. Scared, maybe? Taking in a deep breath, he fixated a hard stare on Kaminari. “That wasn’t how I wanted you to find out.”

Kaminari sat on the edge of the bed. “I think I always knew. That snarl always on your face? Definitely wolfish.” The attempt at humour was feeble at best, but the heavy weight in the room was stifling. Kaminari didn’t work well in tense situations.

Bakugou snorted. “Yeah, I doubt you could’ve figured it out.”

“How come?”

“You’re a dumbass.” The response was blunt, Bakugou’s face completely stoic until Kaminari protested. A small smile tugged it’s way onto his lips. “You’re too easy to bait.”

Kaminari pouted. “And you’re mean.”

Bakugou hummed, pulling back the covers. At first Kaminari thought he was about to get up, but then an arm wrapped around him and tugged him down onto the bed. After being told several times he didn’t like cuddling in bed, Kaminari readily accepted Bakugou’s embrace. If anything, Bakugou was probably trying to reassure himself that everything was really okay. The grip he had around Kaminari was tight.

“How long can you stay?” Bakugou asked softly, idly brushing his thumb over Kaminari’s chest.

There was honestly several things Kaminari had planned on doing today. But, his friends would forgive him. “I had nothing important planned for today. I can stay.”

“I’ll explain things to you later, promise.” Bakugou pressed a kiss onto the side of Kaminari’s head. For several minutes, there was silence. “You’ll have to leave by tonight.” The words were mumbled like he was hoping Kaminari had fallen asleep; like he didn’t really want Kaminari to go.

Squeezing Bakugou’s hand, Kaminari let Bakugou know that he heard before exhaustion carried him to sleep.
