Chapter 1: Beginnings

Chapter Text

Cold. That’s what Namjoon felt as he limped through the woodland. Branches and bushes scraping his limbs; the bitter air masking the pain. He was exhausted. The feeling of something vile coming up his throat was promement and made him feel worse.

He could feel the rocky and harsh ground beneath his feet. The aches become bearable as he made his way slowly towards the roadside. His breathing came out as puffs of smoke from the cold; the darkness of dusk making it very noticeable.

By the time he made it to the road side, his teeth were chattering, legs were giving up. He stood still when he got to the road, noticing a set of headlights approaching from the distance.

Not the best of his ideas, but he moved to the middle of the road and waited.

There was a loud skidding noise as the car stopped in front of him. The two passengers with wide eyes when Namjoon fainted on the hood of the car, rolling off onto the ground with a thud.

The car doors swing open. “Yoongi, baby we have to help him! We can’t just leave!” The grey haired male yelled as he moved to the front of the car. “He’s already on deaths door. Can’t we leave him?” Yoongi hissed wrapping his coat tighter to shield himself from the cold.

“He… he .. Yoongi... he has bite marks,” Jimin bit his lip as he lifted the boy’s head onto his lap. The headlights on the car acting as a light as he inspected him. Yoongi’s eyes widened, and he crouched down to the others.

“Let me see.”

“Fuck. We have to help him Yoons,” Jimin said looking down at the raven haired boy .

“Shit Jimin, there’s black around the bite. That’s probably whatever vampire bit him’s venom,” Yoongi mumbled, dragging his finger over the black liquid that stained the vampire bite. He brought his finger up to the light from the car. Jimin’s eyebrows furrowed in worry.

After inspecting it in the light, he licked the liquid. He coughed and spat it out onto the ground beside them.
“Yep, vampire dna fuck,” Yoongi grimmenced, his eyes wandering to meet Jimin’s again.

“We can’t leave him here,” the ravenette said quietly as Jimin ran his hand through Namjoon’s knotted hair. “He’ll stay with us until he gets to grips with this sudden change in his life but let’s just get him home first.”

“You think you can get us home in the next half hour? He looks like he didn’t drink any blood yet,” Jimin huffed and wrapped his arms around the boy’s waist , lifting him up partially. Yoongi nodded and lifted up Namjoon’s legs.

The two struggled to pick him up and put him in the car.

Jimin sighed into his seat after an excruciating 15 minutes of trying to get the stranger into the car. Yoongi patted Jimin’s knee before putting on his belt. “Belt up babe,” he muttered and started driving.

Jimin kept looking back at the boy in the back seat of the car. “Jimin don’t worry, he’ll survive. He has us to help him,” the ravenette jokes, his eyes concentrated on the road. Jimin hummed, turning around to sit properly in his seat.

“Sorry I’m just … you know,” Jimin waved his hands in the air before covering his eyes. Yoongi frowned as he saw the action. He moved his hand to rest on boyfriend’s thigh, gently moving it down to his knee. The silver haired boy pouted and looked at Yoongi.

“You’re such a kind soul Jimin, but I promise nothing bad will happen to him. We’ll help him get his strength back.”

“Promise?”

“Do I ever break my promises?”

The corners of Jimin’s lips curved upwards, “No.” Yoongi turned and flashed a grin at his boyfriend before turning back to face the road. “Exactly, there’s nothing to worry about, okay?”

Jimin nodded and leaned back into the car seat. Closing his eyes as he felt his worries drift away. He trusted Yoongi, the boy would be as good as new just like he promised.

“YOONGI! WHAT THE FUCK! WHAT THE FUCK! WHAT THE FUCK!” Jimin shrieked, his hands dripping with blood as he held an empty plastic bag.

“LOOK I DIDN’T KNOW HE’D BE AGAINST THE BLOOD BAG!” Yoongi yelled back in a panicked voice.

Namjoon sat in the corner of a previously white couch that was now stained in red. Knees against his chest, shaking in fear. “D-don’t come near me!” He shouted, lip trembling as he looked at the two other boys. He felt frozen in front of the two strangers.
“Sweetie we just want to help you get better,” Jimin spoke in a soothing voice. He moved closer, dropping the bag onto the floor. “We just want to help.”

“Why would you help me? Why are you trying to feed me blood! Is this some cult?” The younger boy’s eyes still wide in fright. “Look kid how many times do we got to tell you! You are a vampire! You got bit! You need to drink blood to live and to heal those wounds!” Yoongi angrily hissed.

“Yoongi be nicer! You’re scaring him.”

“We both are Jimin! Kid just doesn’t fucking get it!”

“For goodness sakes! We can’t just force feed him when he’s awake and your dumbass had to wake him up!”

Yoongi pouted and crossed his arms. “Look I’m sorry I was so loud cleaning Agust’s tank.”

Namjoon watched the two talking, the black haired boy walking over to Jimin and hugging him. Namjoon felt bad about the trouble he caused the couple, but he was scared shitless. All he could remember was riding his bike home from the library after staying up late to study and now he was here. He just wanted to be at home with his family.

He looked down at his hands in his lap, “Fine I’ll drink the blood.”

The hushed voices stopped as the two older boys stared at Namjoon. Jimin smiled and grabbed the blood bag off of Yoongi. He quickly made his way over to the boy on the couch and sat on the floor beside it.

“Now, I know it seems daunting at first, but I promise it’s okay! I know from experience so don’t fret, and you’ll feel a lot better okay!” Jimin picked up an empty glass off the floor and poured some of the blood in. “Here you go, if you want more just ask.”

Namjoon nodded and took the glass from Jimin, he felt his mouth water at the smell. He brought the drink to his lips and tilted the glass. His pupils dilated when he swallowed some of the liquid.

He hurriedly gulped down the rest of the blood and handed Jimin back the glass. Jimin smiled and ruffled the boy’s hair. “See not so bad.” Namjoon just bit his lip and looked at the floor. “Let’s go get you cleaned up shall we ? Then you can rest in bed yeah?” The older boy said softly, helping Namjoon off the couch.

When Namjoon got to his feet Jimin looked at Yoongi who was watching the whole interaction. “Babe you can clean this mess up right ?” He had a devilish grin.

Yoongi grit his teeth and nodded. Jimin sent a flying kiss and took Namjoon’s hand. “You’ll love your new room, ummmm what’s your name?”

“Namjoon… Kim Namjoon.” Hesitating, Namjoon looked up at Jimin. “My names Park Jimin and that’s Min Yoongi, my grumpy boyfriend. I promise he’s as soft as a marshmallow. He’s just bad with new people.” The two boys giggled and Yoongi sent them a look before continuing picking up everything.

“Being a vampire means a few things, but not all stereotypes are real,” Jimin started and grabbed Namjoon’s wrist, guiding them to the stairs in the main entrance of the mansion. “Yes we can’t see our reflections, the sun light can burn us easily just put sun cream on and you’ll be grand. Garlic and holy water and wooden steaks? Don’t affect us at all.”

Namjoon nodded his head as he looked around at the unfamiliar interior. A dark grey colour painted the walls with two large windows at the top of the stairway where it split off going left and right. A red carpet decorated the wooden stairs and few paintings hung on the walls; they have an aged look to them.

“We have better hearing and sense of smell and sight to humans, and of course, we live off of human blood. It’s more common and better for us. You could go on an animal blood diet. But, if you don’t balance it right with a bit of human blood, you’ll get very sick and die.”

“We also stop aging after a certain age, it’s different for everyone just like puberty! As your can see I stopped aging at age 22 and yoongles stopped at age 24.”

“Wait how old are you and Yoongi?” Namjoon asked as they walked up the stairs to the left and down the first corridor. “Mhmm, Yoongi’s like old old. Something like,” Jimin dragged out to think, “800 and something? I’m only about 68. Though the big 69 next year.” Jimin winked before letting go of Namjoon’s hand when they stopped outside two large doors. The younger boy looked at Jimin in confusion.

The silver haired boy pushed them open and tugged Namjoon into the room by his shirt. “There’s a bathroom to the right over there and I’ll leave some clothes out for you on the bed. There’s fresh towels, soap and all that stuff in the bathroom already. This’ll be your room, kay?”

Namjoon nodded and walked over to the door Jimin pointed at. He turned the knob and with a creak. The door opened. He looked around the bathroom before locking the door behind him. It was a stark contrast to how dark the rest of the house was. The bathroom was a soft cream colour with white cabinets and countertop.

Namjoon looked at the mirror. Yep. No reflection, other than his tattered clothes. He didn’t feel as scared as he did when he woke up. Jimin and Yoongi seemed friendly enough, but he still felt uneasy about how he suddenly became a vampire. He shook his head and stripped out of his clothes, hopping into the shower quickly.

He took his time cleaning the blood and dirt off himself. He noticed the bruising and cuts were already healing. Jimin was right about the blood, but he couldn’t stand the thought of drinking it again, not even animals blood. He had only recently went vegan. Was this karma? Perhaps. But he didn’t dwell on it as he dried himself off.

He wrapped the towel around himself and unlocked the door. He spotted Jimin laying on his stomach on the bed at the opposite side of the room reading a magazine. His clothes laid on the duvet beside him. Jimin looked up and smiled. He put down the magazine and sat up.

“Hope you don’t mind these are my old clothes. They look like they’d fit you.” He climbed off the bed and walked over to the bedroom exit. “I’m gonna head downstairs and help Yoongi. You change then get to bed. You need to rest a bunch. If you need anything, just yell. We’ll be in the living room and/or in our room in the next corridor down.” Jimin smiled and patted Namjoon’s head leaving the room quickly after.

Namjoon shrugged and moved over to the bed where a pair of black tracksuit bottoms, plain shirt and a white knitted jumper lay. There was also a pair of boxers and socks on top of the jumper.

Namjoon quickly changed into clean clothes and folded the towel, leaving it in the bathroom. He hurriedly climbed into the bed and fluffed the pillows. He stared at the canopy above the bed and sighed.

The place had an old fashioned vibe to it, but it wasn’t a creepy one. He liked it. He turned his head when he heard a bang from downstairs followed by Yoongi screaming over a plate. Namjoon chuckled.

Yoongi and Jimin were nice. They made him feel comfortable. Even though they were strangers, he felt he could trust them. They were taking great care of him and for that, he was thankful. He knows nobody from his neighbourhood would be as kind to do what the couple were doing. He frowned thinking of his home.

Namjoon missed his mom and dad and sister, but what would they say if he suddenly showed up at home as a vampire? Oh god, they must think he died or something. He buried his head into one of the pillows and groaned.

He laid there for about two hours, drifting in and out of sleep until he heard a knock on the door. He sat up, “Yes, come in.”

A spot of black hair peeped in. Namjoon giggled at Yoongi’s antics. The older boy slowly made his way into the room and stood awkwardly at the bedside.

“Hey… um... Namjoon right?”

The boy in question nodded.

“Look I’m sorry I was so harsh earlier; I can be a bit of a dumbass.”

Yoongi’s gaze lifted from his feet and at Namjoon.

“it’s fine, I was being a bit of a brat anyways,” the boy responded looking down at his hands, fiddling with them.

“No no! Waking up in a stranger’s house and finding out you’re a vampire is scary. I really don’t blame you.”

“But I-”

“Oh hush,” Yoongi sat on the edge of Namjoon’s bed.

“Yoongi, can I call you hyung?” Namjoon asked shyly, finally meeting the older’s eyes. Yoongi nooded.

“Hyung, what’s gonna happen to me? Am I ever gonna see my family again? How long am I gonna stay here with you and Jimin? Do I really have to drink blood? I really can’t. I just-” The younger boy started choking up, his throat tightening as his eyes became wet.

Yoongi frowned and leaned over to hug the boy. He rubbed his hand in soothing circles on Namjoon’s back. He pulled away after a few moments and cupped Namjoon’s cheek.

“It’s scary, and I can’t promise or give you the answers you want. But, time will tell you may get to see your family again. I am not sure, however, don’t worry okay? Me and Jimin will be happy to keep you here for as long as you’d like.” Yoongi flashed the kid a smile.

Namjoon sniffled and wiped his eyes. “About the blood thing, you need to drink blood in order to survive Namjoon, or else you will die.” Namjoon flinches at the statement. “You can drink from me or Jimin if your uncomfortable drinking animal or human blood we won’t mind until your 18, we’ll see what happens when you get older okay?”

Namjoon nodded before his eyes widened. He opened his mouth to ask how Yoongi knew his age, but his hyung interrupted. “I can smell your age Namjoon. Human puberty is horrible isn’t it,” Yoongi laughed moving his hand away from Namjoon’s cheek to ruffle his hair. The boy looked down blushing. “15 right?”

The younger boy nodded. “Birthday is in September,” Namjoon smiled shyly.

“Guess me and Jimin will have to plan then.”

“Oh hyung, can I ask you something?”

Yoongi hummed in response. “Is there a library?”

“A bookworm are you?” Yoongi teased, “Yes, it's the first room to the right side of the staircase.”

Namjoon smiled at this, although he was away from home his love of books could continue. “Alright I’m gonna head to bed, I’ll see you in the morning kiddo.”

Yoongi hops off the bed and made his way out of the room. “Night hyung!”

“Night,” Yoongi smiled and closed the door after he left.

Namjoon felt lighter than he did when he arrived. After having talked to Yoongi, he didn’t feel as alone. He could probably get used to this. He laid back into the bed. This wasn’t so bad he thought closing his eyes. Not bad at all.
