A Carefree Ordeal

Summary:

One girl and seven men. What could go wrong? She is a foreign exchange student just trying to get by. They are world famous performers. One chance incident changes eight lives.

Or a self-indulgent fic because there isn't enough Reader/BTS in the world.

Notes:

This is an expanded story stemming from my "Nightmares Have Happy Endings" story. This fic is an extremely slow build to get to that point. So if you have read that one strap in for the long haul and thank you for coming back. If you're new here welcome to this crazy story that my brain spits out 3am and demand I write. I will add tags as I go but do note that many of the members of BTS will be involved with each other as well as the reader. There will be couples as well as group (of various size) interactions in later chapters. Enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Sneak Peek

Chapter Text

Sneak Peek

“We want you to be with us.” Namjoon said sheepishly, looking down at where your hands were joined. You couldn’t stop yourself from pulling away. The air in the room shifted, each of the members sat up a little straighter. You looked at all of them; Namjoon’s face was still downcast, Hobi and Jin had their hands linked so hard their knuckles were white, the maknaes were piled on top of each other, Jungkook looked a breath away from tears, and Yoongi’s dark expression was indecipherable. You took a shaky breath. You all had only known each other for a few weeks and spent maybe a few hours together in total. Split amongst the seven of them that wasn’t a lot of time to get to know them. But it hadn’t stopped you from feeling things that scared you. How you wanted to protect them from the world, yell at their managers about overworking them, make sure they were happy and well-fed. It didn’t stop you from lying awake at nigh wondering about them or laughing over the photos they sent you. You hadn’t realized how hard you had fallen for them until now. And what scared you the most was that they seemed to return your feelings. You stood up, shocking even yourself, red-faced and embarrassed you fled; unable to see the 7 broken faces and 7 pairs of watery eyes following your exit.

You fumbled down the stairs, not able to wait for the elevator, dashing tears from your blurry vision. How could they spring this on you? You shouldn’t even know them in the first place. But wasn’t that what Yoongi had told you, the reason they liked having you around. You weren’t a fan, you didn’t treat them any different because they were famous, they liked the normalcy, the friendship. Or so you thought. It had been awkward at first, getting used to their relationships with each other. Especially after the incident that started it all, walking in on Namjoon and Jin together in the company building. Why would they ask you to be in a relationship when they were already in one? Wouldn’t that disturb the group dynamics. What would happen when you finished your studies and had to go back home?

You made it out of the building and down to the street catching the bus as it pulled up. Thank God, you did not want to have to try and find a taxi. You took some deep breaths as you sat down, trying not to concern the other passengers. The bus took you in the opposite direction of home, but it gave you an escape route and time to collect your thoughts. When you finally caught the right bus and made it home you collapsed into you bed, letting yourself sob into your pillow. You had gotten a few massages but couldn’t bring yourself to open them, guilt flooding you for leaving so abruptly. You made yourself a microwave dinner, showered, and fell into a fitful sleep. Hoping that it was all just a bad dream in the first place.
