Chapter Text
It was a quiet day, 3 weeks before finals. Most people were using free periods to study, but today they were just talking among themselves. Some making plans for the weekend since it was Friday, some just thinking about what more they need to do to be prepared for the finals. Aizawa was laying at the front of the room in his sleeping bag, listening to his class as he lightly dozed.
Izuku was at the back of the room, talking quietly with Shouto. They were thinking about going to a cat cafe for a study date and dragging Hitoshi along with them, he likes the cats there. Although, if all three go, they are guaranteed to get sidetracked, they didn’t care. They just wanted to spend some time together.
About 15 minutes to the bell, A Bad Feeling™ washed over Izuku, causing him to shiver and look around the room in confusion. He has always been told to trust his gut and right now, his gut was screaming, but he didn’t know why. Not even a minute later, Aizawa stood up causing the whole class to shut up. “Midoriya, you are wanted in the principal’s office.”
Everyone turned to look at Izuku as he turned to look at Shouto who shrugged. With that, Izuku walked out of the room. His gut screams louder the closer he gets to the principal’s office, but he kept going. It didn’t take long for Izuku to reach the office. His hands were shaking even though he didn’t know why. Steeling his nerves, Izuku raised his fist and knocked 3 times.
A less cheerful than usual voice called out for him to come in. The first thing Izuku sees is the principal, a smile as usual, but it seemed more out of sympathy then sadistic joy. The next thing Izuku sees is 2 men sitting at the desk with somber expressions. Izuku walked in a shut the door behind him. “You asked for me, sir?”
“Yes. These men here would like to talk to you. Please, sit.” Nedzu motioned to the only seat available between the two men. As Izuku sat down his mind ran through a million different possibilities and scenarios of what could happen.
“Good afternoon Mr.Midoirya. Im with the Musutafu Police department.” Izuku nodded in understanding and the man continued. “I regret to inform you that earlier today, a villain going by the code name ‘Dragon Breath’ escaped the prison at which he was being held.” Izuku grew pale but didn’t say anything. For once his head was not moving faster than his body but has joined him in being stationary. “Afterwards he made his way to an apartment building in downtown Musutafu and set the building on fire. There were 27 injuries and 1 death. I’m sorry for you lost but the death was Inko Mirdoriya.”
The world turned to static, the police officer was still talking but Izuku couldn’t hear over the ringing in his ears. Without out asking to be excused or talking to the officer, Izuku stood up and slowly made his way out of the door. Numb to the sounds around him, the broken-hearted boy made his way back to the 1-A classroom. He didn’t hear the bell ring. He didn’t see the people passing him in the hall. All he understood was his mom is dead. She was dead and he was an orphan. The system hates people like him. His death sentence has just been set.
Izuku opened the door, eyes dull and face vacant. The class was still in the room, packing up and talking to each other, Aizawa was also in the room, collecting papers. They all quieted down as they looked at Izuku, his pale complexion, empty face, trembling hands. They watched as he slowly made his way to his desk and sat down. Bakugou was still by his desk and looking confused and concerned for the boy behind him. They all flinched at the thump of Izuku’s head hitting his desk as he covered his head with his arms, becoming as still as the dead.
Bakugou slowly stretched a hand out. “Izuku?... What’s wrong?” The hand reached Izuku’s shoulder and touched it, trying to help ground the boy to help him. No expected the scream that followed. No one knew that grounding him made it real. Everyone hears the scream. Everyone hears the pain in it. The sunshine boy has broken.
The Villain Dragon Breath had another name, much like heroes do. His was Hisashi Midoirya. Hisashi was a doting father and a caring husband to the outside world, but in his house, he was as much a Villain as his other persona. His daughter wanted to be a boy and his wife let her. They would never do as he said and were always disobedient, disobedient people must be punished. So he hit them. Every day he would find creative ways to punish them. Until one day he went too far and got arrested. His wife called the police of him, his daughter just sat back while he was dragged away. His family would need to be punished big time when he got back.
The news lit up with the arrest. But it hit most for a small house on the other end of the neighborhood. In a house owned by an explosive family. The little boy, Katsuki Bakugou, was sitting in front of the tv when the news went up. He quickly called for his mom and dad who came running. Looking at the news showed a picture of Hisashi Midoriya. Arrested for spousal and child abuse along with all his crimes as the villain Dragon Breath. The family was heartbroken. The Midoriays was like family to them, how did the never see the pain they were in. The young boy always knew something was off with his best friend, but he was too young to understand. After the news said Child Abuse, Katsuki knew. His uncle, no, not his uncle anymore, Hisashi, the Villain, hurt his friend. Katsuki resolved to promise to always protect his friend after that.
It wasn’t long before life took another punch at Izuku. This time in the form of crushing his dreams. The doctor said he was quirkless and his mom said ‘I’m Sorry’. Izuku went into his room and locked the door. He was done. Curling up in a ball he stayed in bed, only coming out when he was sure his mom was asleep to get some water and use the bathroom. Inko, his mom, became worried, so she called her best friend. Explaining to her that Izuku was quirkless and now refuses to leave his room and eat. She was scared.
Mitsuki Bakugou loved Izuku like a second son, so when Inko told her what was happening she also became concerned over Izuku’s health. Her son saw her and asked, in his own way, what was wrong, She explained that Izuku wouldn’t be getting a quirk, how that made him very sad and now he refuses to leave his room or eat, they were worried about his health.
At first, Katsuki was angry that Izuku wasn’t getting a quirk, but when he heard that the idiot wasn’t eating or leaving his room, the explosive boy demanded to be taken to the Midoirya house right away. Once arriving, Katsuki blasted the door open and shut it behind him. Adults have proven to be useless so he will handle this himself.
No one knows what happened in that room, but they didn’t ask when it ended with Izuku coming out of his room and eating dinner. From that point on, Inko saw a change in her son. He spent most of his time either studying or training with Katsuki. Realizing she probably was at fault for when her son locked himself away, Inko shoved away her fear and resolved herself to always support Izuku. Her first step was to find a meal plan to help him gain muscle, next was to find dojos to train him in different types of fighting. He also took gymnastics and parkour. It became expensive but she found a high paying job at a law firm, becoming one of the best in the field dealing with child services. The Midoiryas were all happy.
Izuku was an honor student, but that did not mean his teachers liked him. School was a nightmare, but Izuku pushed through. It became worse when a teacher let his dead name slip and that’s how the school took to calling him. He would rather be called with the old insult Deku, but everyone except Katsuki kept calling him Izumi, even the teachers, and principal. Then, Izuku met him .
All Might crushed the boy’s dream and left him on a roof. Said boy later proved the Hero wrong when Izuku jumped into a villain fight and successfully saved Katsuki. Katsuki later stood up for Izuku, giving all the Heroes a verbal lashing, when they tried to scold Izuku for saving Katsuki.
All Might tracked the boy down afterwards and offered him his quirk. Izuku was angry and told All Might no. He did not need the help of someone quirkest, and he did not need a quirk. Izuku walked past him and never looked back. He would prove everyone wrong, and he would do it with his best friend and his mom. They were all he needed.
10 months later, They took the entrance exam to UA. Izuku used shrapnel from other robots to take down any he came across, finding weak points, and targeting them. He ended up with 46 Villain Points. As he took the exam he also helped other people, pulling them out of the way of danger, killing robots that they couldn’t take down in time, saving a girl about to be crushed by a robot as big as the Tokyo Tower. He was shocked to see 78 Rescue Points. Making a grand total of 124 points, making him have first place in the entrance exam and breaking All Mights record of 113 points.
He and Katsuki were both put into Class 1-A, their teacher was the underground Hero, Eraserhead. Said Hero gave them a quirk assessment test, one which he came in 5th on, right behind Katsuki. This impressed the teacher who after class offered to train him. Izuku would be a fool to pass up the chance to train with the closes person to a quirkless hero, so he and along with another student from Gen Ed trained under Aizawa after school on Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays, with agendas of self-training to do on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. They were trained in flexibility, strength, speed, analysis, parkour, and weapons.
With coming to UA, new opportunities arose, the class didn’t judge him on not having a quirk, after the sports festival, even Todoroki started opening up to him. He ended up tagging along with Izuku and Hitoshi to different cat cafes until he became Shouto to them, and they started moving to something closer than friends, something they have yet to put a label to, but none of them are in a rush to define what they have, they just love knowing they have it.
Izuku was happy, but his father decided to come home unannounced until it was too late, his mother was gone, taken from him. His mother has always been the main support in his life, his foundation. She was always there with open arms to accept him, help him, love him. When the foundation of a building disappears, it’s only a matter of time before the whole building comes crashing down. He had other pillars to keep him up for a short period of time but how long will they be able to keep him standing. How long will it be till Izuku crumples, till he comes crashing down without his mom to stand and catch him? How long will Izuku manage to hold out until a new foundation can be placed in? How long?
