Chapter 1: A swing at Fate

Chapter Text

Diego walked into his apartment, feet dragging across the floor until he reaches the couch where he collapsed on the piece of furniture. He closed his eyes until he realized the door was left open so he trudges over to close it but as he does the last person he wants to see stops him, Johnny. He groans looking even more annoyed than he was before.

"Well aren't you a sight for sore eyes," Johnny said smirking at Diego.

"What do you want." He balled his fist resisting to slam the door on him. Diego swears ever since he's become able to walk again he's become much more annoying.

"Well, Gyro wants to talk to you or something." Diego nods and turns to shut the door but is grabbed by Johnny. "Listen, and if you hurt Gyro I'll gut you with a stone and feed you to the wolves." Diego simply nods ignoring the threat shutting the door. Well, he should probably go freshen up Since he'll be going to see someone. Then he realizes he has no clue where he supposed to be going to meet him. He sighed going to his phone to call the man. It rang, once, twice, then he answered.

"Where exactly am I supposed to meet you?" He said trying to keep a calm tone.

"Oh, just in front of your building," Gyro responds with a nervous laugh.

"Alright. . . see you in a minute." Diego said then hung up. 'Welp time to fix this disaster.' He said remembering how bad he looked from how brutal work was.

------

Gyro stood outside Diego's apartment building with a single blue flower for Diego. He was so nervous and sweaty, He wrung his than d realizing how desperate he sounded on the call. God, the longer he sat out here the worse his anxiety grew what if Diego rejects him? What if he stops hanging out with him? What if Johnny murders him for rejecting me? The last one made him laugh. He already knows Johnny has plans to murder Diego, Why does Johnny hate Diego so much? Eh, it doesn't concern him so he lets it go. He saw the apartment building door open and out walks Diego, ho looks war-torn and dead on his feet. Maybe today was a bad day to try and tell him. But when Diego looks at him and gives him that welcoming smile he feels his worries wash away.

"Hey goldie locks." Diego teases walking over to Gyro though his movements look lagged.

"Hey Diego. . ." He takes a deep breath. "Here I got you something." He says holding out the flower to Diego. Diego takes it and smiles at the flower.

"It's cute, I like the blue."

"Well, I'm here to ask you. . . a question?" Gyro says sounding confused.

"Are you sure of yourself that that's what you here for?"

"Yes!" He reaches out to grab Diego's hand but is met with Johnny smacking his hand.

"What the- Johnny?!?" He glares at his blue beanie-wearing friend who ruined his burst of confidence which is now shriveling into nothingness.

"I can't let you do this!" Johnny shouts. "I mean, that asshole. Seriously?"

"Yes, that one!" He shouts back while Diego begins to try and back away from the situation but is stopped by both of them looking at him.

"Ya know, maybe we can do this another time?"

"Yeh get out of here!" Johnny shouts at him.

"No! Diego wait a second so I can deal with Mr. Emotons over here!" Diego nods and stands there watching them. He listens to the argument slowly piecing together the fact that Gyro legit wants to ask him out, like go on a date and do couple things. Diego sighs and decides to take a swing at fate since those two don't seem close to stoping their bickering any time soon.

"Hey Gyro, wanna go out with me?"
