Chapter Text
“Gah!” Izuku yelped, upon opening 1-A’s door to see Katsuki and the strict boy from the Entry Exam both in his assigned class. ‘The top two guys I didn’t want to meet,’ he bemoaned, ‘not that I should’ve expected I’d be any luckier here than in Junior High…’
He twitched again as they both noticed him, waiting for an explosion, but it wasn’t Katsuki who moved first.
“Good morning!” The strict boy approached with military-sharp movement, light shining off his glasses to obscure his eyes. “My name is Tenya Iida! I attended Somei Private Academy prior to-,”
“Y-Yeah, I heard you,” Izuku interrupted. Tenya froze mid-step, his arms bent mid-swing, and Izuku realized he might have been rude again. “Sorry. I’m Izuku Midoriya. I’ll be in your care, Iida-kun.” ‘Great, it doesn’t look like he’s angry,’ Izuku reflected as Tenya relaxed to something like an at-ease position.
“Midoriya-kun… You realized there was another aspect to our practical exam, didn’t you?”
“Huh?”
“Meanwhile, I remained wholly ignorant,” Tenya continued as the rest of the class watched their back-and-forth curiously. “I apologize for misjudging you before; it seems I have much to learn, still.”
“Fortunately,” boomed a gruff voice as both boys jumped, “that’s why you’re both here.”
“Ah!” Izuku spun around and immediately realized. “You! Y-You’re the Blood Hero: Vlad King! A red bodysuit, boots and gauntlets the same silver as your hair, and that faded cross-shaped scar on your cheek, you can’t be anyone else!”
“Actually, I’m the Impersonator Hero: Caricapture, imitating Vlad King to see who notices,” he answered.
Izuku gaped.
“R-Really?!” ‘How embarrassing, I totally fell for it!’ Izuku reflected, almost flailing in his dismay. ‘It seems I really wasn’t ready for what it means to have Pro Heroes teaching my classes!’ "I- I-,"
“No, she’s the homeroom teacher for 1-J this year,” Vlad King informed him.
‘So I was right the first time!! Aaaaahhh!!!’
“Clear the doorway, young man,” Vlad King reprimanded after another moment, and Izuku realized where he was standing.
“Right! I’m very sorry,” he yelped, bumping partly into the desk of a stylish blond boy as he scrambled out of the way.
“…”
“Good morning, sensei!” Tenya yelped as well, stepping from between the doorway and the teacher’s desk as he gave a bow. “I-! There’s no class representative, who’s supposed to give the ‘stand-bow-sit,’ morning greeting today? Do I dare,” he wondered quietly to himself as the silver-haired man stepped past, “or would it be presumptuous?”
“Homeroom hasn’t begun either way, so everyone should be at ease,” Vlad King commented in a voice that carried across the room. “Some lapses are excusable and even expected on the first day or two, provided you all know when to be serious.”
““Y-Yes, sir!”” Everyone chorused at this ominous pronouncement.
Message delivered, the muscular pro-hero turned his attention to a stack of papers, and the students slowly relaxed again.
“…Oh! You’re that boy, from the exam, with the fluffy hair and the diamond freckles and that incredible punch!”
Izuku turned back to the doorway, surprised to hear a girl’s voice refer to him, (it was him, right?) and found himself facing the girl who’d rescued him from falling after he’d punched out the giant robot.
‘It’s the nice girl who helped me! She’s talking to me!! She’s really cute!!! What do I do?!?!’
“I’m so glad you passed and we’re in the same class! Present Mic said you would pass when I went to… I mean, your punch was amazing, so I know this will be a good year for sure, now!”
“I… Well… It was thanks to you going to speak on my behalf….”
“Oh, you know about that? Heheheh…” The chubby brunette fidgeted with a tendril of her hair that ran down to her jaw. It sort of reminded Izuku of a beetle’s mandibles, since she wore the rest of her hair short than those two frontmost locks, but since she definitely had gravity powers he didn’t know where that thought came from.
After four stuttered sentences of attempting to chat, the bell for Homeroom rang, and the Blood Hero directed everyone to their seats, pointing to a directory he’d left on his desk for reference.
“Good morning, and welcome to your first day in the UA High School Heroics Program,” he finally announced. “I am professionally the Blood Hero: Vlad King, but in the classroom you may address me as Kan-sensei. In addition to teaching homeroom, I will be the instructor for your health and gym classes, which will involve topics such as first aid, bodily exertion, and work-out regimes in addition to what a normal curriculum would cover at other high schools. Does everyone have a writing implement?”
““Yes, Kan-sensei,”” everyone eventually confirmed.
“I am now distributing several papers; pass them back along each row, and everyone ensure you have four distinct documents with nothing missing or duplicated.”
Katsuki sneered as he slapped the papers onto Izuku’s desk, but he didn’t explode anything, say a word, or produce even a threatening *pop* from his palms, so Izuku felt like it was already an improvement over Aldera.
“Everyone has one copy of these four papers? Good,” Kan grunted after a wave of quiet affirmations. “The first paper is a summary of the upcoming school year’s holiday schedule, and on the reverse side you’ll find a copy of our weekly class schedule; we will not be following this schedule today, due to the requirements of Orientation, but the period lengths will remain the same.
“The second page is a brief summary of UA’s Code For Student Conduct, including what information you should not share with people about our school’s practices, the standards of behavior you are expected to uphold as proud young heroes, and the contact information for myself and other school officials if you have questions, or you need assistance with replacing a lost Student ID card, for instance.
“The third page is a list of UA’s extracurricular activities. Clubs will begin recruiting later this week or early next week, and some activities have limited seats, so review it carefully and decide where your interests lie.
“The fourth page," he continued, "is a personal questionnaire I distribute to every homeroom class I teach. Fill it out as quickly as possible so you can return it to me before we attend the First Years’ Opening Ceremony when first period begins. It’s a reference sheet so I can get to know each of you quickly, with no grade attached beyond participation.
“You have the rest of homeroom until First Period to answer the questions and return it to me. When First Period begins, I will lead you to the main auditorium for our opening ceremony and student orientation, which will last until the end of our second period, or possibly the third period. Once that is complete, we will return here to perform a few quick introductory activities and ice-breakers before lunch. After lunch, we will meet here again and I will take you outside for a set of test exercises designed to gage your current limits and abilities. Any questions?”
“Sensei,” Tenya declared, “did you have a specific meaning the you referred to ‘the First Years’ Opening Ceremony’?"
“Second- and Third-Year students are expected to know the rules already, so Principal Nedzu has them perform other activities in the morning to better address the needs of students new to UA. Any other questions? …Then you should be writing to complete the questionnaire.”
““Yes!”” Everyone quickly bent over their desk again to begin scribbling.
‘Hey, this is pretty normal,’ Izuku thought upon reading the questions.
