    At the age of five, Midoriya Izuku's dreams of becoming the next Symbol Of Peace were shattered. But as he swept up the scattered pieces, it occurred to him that there were plenty of heroes who didn't have amazing superpowers. And, just maybe, his dream of being a Hero can be salvaged, and made all the more beautiful for having been broken.

    [Hiatus; I've kind of fallen out of this fandom even if I love the characters, and my focus is elsewhere. But returning to this is...not impossible.]

    The world is an unfair place.

    You flip a coin, and when you need heads, it will give you tails. You cross the street, and you get hit by a car, because you forgot to look both ways. You get beaten down by your peers for things out of your control, sneered at and jeered at, because you don't fit their expectations. The world is unfair to you, and if it were fair in just one thing, it would be in the fact that it is unfair to all.

    Midoriya Izuku knows what it's like to live in this unfair world. The cracks in the pavement where fortune falls down, the drainage pipes in which keys and rings are lost; he does his best to find the nooks and crannies that will give him an advantage, but he still suffers with the rest of us. His only friends are far away, and his relationship with his mother is in danger. He could once call amazing heroes his family, but they left him behind. He has been falsely diagnosed as quirkless, and with that declaration comes most of the misfortune that is his existence... yet he is determined to beat the odds anyways, and he has the entire rest of his life to do so.

    The world is an unfair place, but Midoriya Izuku is ready for the challenge.

    Jiro helpfully suggested that I write something to “let out all my frustration” after the coffee machine broke. I have decided to follow in the footsteps of the legendary American Edgar Allan Poe and try my hand at the fine art of poetry. My first draft was as follows:

    My heart bleeds with darkness
    Black like the beans of my lifeblood
    I scream at the heavens to avenge my loss
    They have not listened
    They never have
    Without my dark elixir I am crushed
    Damn machinery

    Dark Shadow, my faithful editor, was perusing my work and insisted that the last line was a smidgen too blunt. It is now:

    I will never again rely on the gears of grinding fate

    This, I feel, was a worthy first attempt.

     

    (A journal documenting Class 1-A’s daily shenanigans and Tokoyami’s “dark musings”, told from the perspective of everyone’s favorite bird. Ever wanted to know what would happen if Aoyama forced Tokoyami to shop for clothes that aren’t black? Want to see the absolute disaster that occurs when Class 1-A goes camping or fights each other with spray bottles? No? Well, uh... keep scrolling, then.)

    Dear Student #15,

    I don’t want to fucking do this at all, but the guards and people running Tartarus are up my ass so here’s some basic shit I guess. You know I’m arrested, you know I’m a villain, you know they think I can be ‘reformed’ or whatever. Frankly, I don’t see a point in this, but it’s better than sitting on my ass all day staring at the wall. I won’t say much more considering this is my second attempt. My first draft was ‘too mean’ as they put it. Don’t bother answering.
