Here's to Colin Creevey, who died in battle. The little boy who was obsessed with Harry, who's fates were intertwined. Here's to him dying with fear, scared for his brother but knowing it was better than living with the gouges that marked him as his (Colin died knowing that his fate wouldn't be controlled by the very same person who had bitten his DADA professor of 2nd year. If people saw Dennis crying over the smile fixed on Colin's face, no one commented).
Here's to Rax who was only looking out for her sister, who didn't want to see the one closest to him have her heart broken. Who was wary about this soft skinned stranger invading their home, not letting himself hope that they could be free of the Galra's rule for fear of being disappointed. He had to be stronger for his sister, he had to be realistic.
Here's to Ben Parker, for knowing his nephew was destined for great things and gave him the piece of knowledge that kept Peter going when all seemed bleak. Trusting that May would help Peter get through the grief. The uncle that never knew how to quit, who's legacy lives on through Tony Stark (Peter always did think of Ben and Tony as his father's).
Here's to Nathalie Sancoeur who only wanted the best for Adrien and Gabriel. Who stuck to her bosses side, risked her life and lied to the boy she considered a son, just so that he could feel Emilie’s hugs once more. She shoved her feelings for Gabriel aside, and cursed her weakening body. Only through the knowledge that she was helping make things right kept her from closing her eyes in exhaustion, and giving up.
Here's to Seth Clearwater, for remaining the kid when everyone needed it. For pretending to remain innocent even though his sister was driven by hate and anguish. To following Jacob because he knows it’s easier to be brave when you’re not alone. Here's to Seth for remaining the kid we all needed when fighting for our lives.
Here's to Hide who stayed by Kaneki's side, even when he distanced himself. For looking out for him, pestering him, even though Kaneki told him no, over and over and over again. For having unwavering strength and faith in Kaneki until his dying breath. Here's to Hide for knowing Kaneki will bring him (us, his traitorous mind whispered. We are one. Always have been, always will be. 'Till the end of time and beyond) home.
Here's to Juline Dizznee who desperately wanted to tell her husband and son what she was doing, if only to not be alone in the world of justice. Who bore the weight of marrying a Talentless and having triplets, who encouraged her eldest son as best as she could. Who hates watching from her bedroom window as Dex sneaks out from the house to meet Sophie and the Black Swan, only for her to see him several hours later incased by a sheet of ice. The woman who acts panicked when Biana figures out her secret, only to be internally goading them on (yes, yes, you can do it, just connect the right dots and I'll be free), and shaking with silent relief when they get it right. Juline only allows herself to cry when Rimeshire is empty and bare, wind whistling down blue tinted crystal hallways, echoing her sobs as if the universe understands her pain. (It doesn't, not really. No one ever truly knows the pain she went through. Still goes through)
Here's to all the forgotten characters who are lost, here's to those who have more to them beneath the surface. Here's to those who tried, here's to those who cried, here's to those who never paused and thought to live and survive with pride.
