Work Text:
The shade sat with Eurydice in her humble abode within Asphodel, politely waiting for whatever delicacy she was making to finish cooking. As they waited, Eurydice hummed happily and dropped little ingredients into her cauldron every so often.
Sometimes she would dip a spoon into the mix, and try it, then turn to the shade with a gentle smile, asking if they would be so kind as to give their opinion. They would nod and walk over, and, though unsure if they should use the same spoon as Eurydice, she would just chuckle and put the spoon in their hand.
“Don’t worry about it, hon. I’m not poisoned. Just a little indirect kiss is all,” she would say, and the shade would accept the spoon into their hands and try a taste, albeit with a small blush. It was always more delicious, than the last time they tried it, though it wasn’t like it ever tasted bad. It just got better.
The shade would tell the nymph which flavors were most prominent (their favorites being pomegranate and nectar), and Eurydice would hum in content or thought and gently take the spoon from their hands and place it in a bucket of soapy water. Afterwards, she would turn back to the shade and smile at them again, thanking them for the help. It made them feel fuzzy inside.
This, however, was the shade’s favorite part of the cooking process, when Eurydice would look into the cauldron, taste its contents, and nod enthusiastically to herself, saying, “Oh yeah, that’s done.” Eurydice took out a ladle, pouring the contents of a filling stew into two bowls. Carefully walking over to the shade on her bed as to not spill the food, she placed one portion into the shade’s eager hands. Sitting down beside them, she leaned into their side, flustering them.
“I love cooking, but Blood and Darkness, sometimes it takes the energy out of me,” she said, putting a spoonful of stew into her mouth. The shade followed suit, chewing happily as the spices of the stew were like fireworks. Suddenly, Eurydice sat upright and gasped.
“I forgot the secret ingredient!” she exclaimed, eating another bite. The shade, slightly bewildered, looked around the room.
“...Chrustacean?” they asked, their mouth still partially full. Eurydice shook her head and reached her hand out, pulling the shade in by the back of their neck. She gazed at their confused, but excited expression, and leaned in to kiss them, closing her eyes. Opposite of that, the shade’s eyes went wide, but they didn’t pull away, and eventually placed their free hand on Eurydice’s waist. As they pulled away, Eurydice swallowed, warmly looking up at them.
“No, hon,” she said, moving her hand to stroke their cheek. “It’s love.”
