He almost had himself convinced. And it was almost true. But despite everything, Oscar knew that if the next words out of Lando’s mouth were any kind of suggestion, he would not be able to say no. The only thing keeping Oscar tethered to his sanity was the too-cold water still lapping up to his armpits. He closed his eyes and dunked himself entirely under, willing himself to come back to his senses.
