Work Text:
“Blaine, for the tenth time, we are not doing that!” Kurt was heading into the bathroom to begin his bedtime routine.
Blaine followed after him. “But, Kurt, you have to admit that it's a really good idea. I know you're going to miss me when you’re in New York.”
He rolled his eyes. “We are not going to Build-A-Bear Workshop. That store is for children. Remind me how old we are again?”
“You can dress them up! And I know for a fact that your bear will be the most fashionable bear that's ever existed.” He smiled brightly, hoping that would be able to convince his boyfriend.
Kurt faced him and touched Blaine’s cheek. “Oh, Blaine. Flattery will get you nowhere. At least, not in this conversation.” He turned back to the mirror.
Blaine’s face fell, but he wasn't going to give up. “We can record our own little sound, Kurt! And we can make them look like each other so it’s like a little piece of us. Please, Kurt?” He looked at Kurt with big eyes.
“I know what you're doing with your eyes so I'm not going to look at you. But how I’ll tell you this; I want to go to the mall tomorrow. That mall just so happens to have a Build-A-Bear,” Kurt smirked as he continued applying his moisturizer. “So maybe we’ll have time to stop by.”
Blaine squealed a little and gave his boyfriend a hug. “Thank you, thank you, thank you! I love you! I promise, you won't regret this.
------
Kurt didn't regret it. He got a cute little dog, because Blaine had the energy of a puppy and Blaine got a kitten (because if Kurt was an animal, he’d totally be a cat). Before they got their bears sewed up, they did what Blaine had suggested and recorded themselves saying “I love you,” Blaine put his recording into Kurt’s and Kurt put his in Blaine’s.
Of course, Kurt just had to dress the dog in something resembling Blaine’s wardrobe. It had a little shirt with a bow tie and a vest. The pants were simple; some black jeans. The most Blaine-esque shoes he could find were converse so he went with those. And the last thing was a brown fedora.
Meanwhile, Blaine was having a slightly harder time making his cat dress in something his boyfriend would wear. He settled with a denim jacket over a blue shirt, a navy blue skirt, and combat boots.
“See, Kurt, isn't this fun? I mean, look how cute I look as a dog!” Blaine gestured to Kurt’s bear. Then he noticed a small section with pyjamas. “Oh, my God! Kurt, there’s pyjamas ! Let's go get some!”
“Why would they need pyjamas? Don't they just stay in these clothes?”
Blaine scoffed and made his way over to the pyjamas, Kurt following him. “Of course not. You have to change them before going to bed. And then when you wake up, you put the normal clothes back on.”
He rolled his eyes. “Do you seriously think that I'm going to undress the dog, put him in pyjamas, wake up, take his pyjamas back off , and then put his normal clothes back on again? Even though he's going to stay on my bed all day?” Truth be told, Kurt thought the idea of that was amusing.
“Yes, obviously. Here, I want puppy-me to wear this dinosaur sleeper and I'm gonna have kitty-you wear this pink robe. It's definitely something you would wear.” He handed the sleeper to Kurt. “I think that’s all we need, right?”
“Technically, we don't need any of this stuff but sure, the sleeping clothes were the last thing we “need.’”
They made their way over to the computers to make birth certificates. Blaine named his ‘Kurt’ and Kurt tried naming his ‘Devon’ but Blaine argued saying that he couldn't do that since that was his middle name.
Once they finished up the certificates and paid for everything, Kurt really just wanted to go back home.
“Are we leaving now? I don't want to walk around with this box for longer than I have to.”
Blaine reached down to grab Kurt’s free hand. “I can hold your box if you want to shop around a bit more.”
He shook his head. “No, I think we should probably leave before I eat like three mall pretzels. Besides, we have to get better acquainted with puppy-you and kitty-me.”
------
A week after that, Kurt flew off to New York. By the end of it, he missed Blaine terribly. Once he and Blaine ended their nightly phone call, he grabbed the dog (which was in its pyjamas already), cuddled it close to his chest, and with a press of the paw, he heard Blaine’s voice say ‘I love you.’ He’d probably never admit it to Blaine, but he’s really glad that they went to Build-A-Bear.
