Not As Bad As It Seems

Summary:

When Buck ended up under the ladder truck everyone was freaking out. But Buck only had one question for his boyfriend: Which leg is it?

Buck was always vague about his past, and for good reason. He lied to Bobby about dropping out of SEAL training, not wanting anyone to know about it. But in fact he was honorably discharged due to an injury. Said injury is only revealed when the truck lands on his foot.

Chapter Text

It wasn’t known to many on his team, but Buck is an amputee. He lost his leg in a roadside bomb attack during his time in the SEAL’s. The department knew that he had a prosthetic leg from below the knee down. In fact, the only people who really knew were Eddie and Maddie. He just didn’t like the looks that people gave him when they saw the prosthetic. Even with the prosthetic he was a very good firefighter, one of the best in his house and was always the one to do the rope rescues. Sure, after some shifts his leg would hurt but Eddie would always massage where the leg ended in gnarly scars. He and Eddie knew each other before they met on Eddie’s first day on the job. Buck was the one to save the Medic when the helicopter crashed. Nobody really knew that they knew each other, or the fact that they were dating. Shannon may have come back to be in her son’s life but her and Eddie had already divorced by the time the Diaz’s had moved to LA.

They were on the way to the call when it happened. All Buck could feel was pain and Buck couldn’t move. Last thing he remembered was Bobby trying to get in touch with them before something exploded. He was on the road, and he could feel the heat of the fire and he could feel blood on his face. He blearily opened his eyes to see a kid not that much younger than him with a bomb strapped around his chest and fear crept up in the pit of his stomach.

“You’re new.” The kid said looking at him.  Buck slowly closed his eyes; he knew that he probably had a concussion and that he was pinned but he couldn’t tell which leg or how far up. All he knew was that he hurt all over.

“Get me the Captain! I want the Captain!” the kid yelled out at the surrounding police and fire personal.

“I’m the Captain!” it was Chim’s voice that broke through his bleary thoughts. Buck blinked his eyes open again to see Chim striding towards them.

“No, I don’t want you, I want Captain Nash.”

Buck could just slowly blink his eyes, his brain not really processing what was happening around him. Buck vaguely hears Bobby walking up to the kid and the whole deal was over in a matter of seconds. Then he was surrounded by his family. Eddie gripped his hand tightly which caused Buck to blink his eyes to clear his vision.

“Eddie, which leg?” he asked roughly. Eddie just kind of smiled, and that’s all it took for Buck to know that he wouldn’t be losing his other leg that night.

“The left, and it’s just your foot.”

“There’s nothing just about this.” Hen said as Chim is radioing in the get help lifting the firetruck off of Buck’s foot.

“Eddie, just do it. Easier then having to lift the truck.” Buck muttered. Eddie just nodded and shifted his focus to Buck’s knee.

“What are you talking about, Buckaroo?” Hen asked.

“Hen, it’ll be okay, the leg is already gone.” Hen’s face paled at his words.

“You can’t feel it, at all?” she asked faintly.

“Hen, look.” Eddie said as he tore the pant leg so he could take the prosthetic off.

“What?” she asked faintly as Chim, and Bobby surrounded around them as well.

“All this time? How?” Bobby asked.

“He’ll explain later, I’m sure he has a concussion.” Eddie explained as he expertly took off the prosthetic, freeing his boyfriend from the downed ladder truck. “He has another one at his place.” He reassured their team. They expertly got Buck on the backboard with a c-collar secured around his neck and an IV started.

Once Buck woke up, all he noticed was the blinding headache he had. Then he noticed a hand in his. He blinked open his eyes to see Eddie sitting beside his bed, his head lolling to the side in his sleep. Buck smiled as he squeezed his hand and Eddie blinked his eyes as he woke up, a smile on his face as he saw that Buck was awake now.

“Hey, you’re awake. How are you doing?” Eddie asked.

“I have a headache.”

“Well, a concussion will do that to you.”

“How bad?”

“It would have been worse if it was your other foot crushed and not your prosthetic.” Eddie said but then sighed. “Grade 2 concussion, a couple of broken ribs and you have 8 stitches in your head from when you hit the street. But you got off lucky.”

“Don’t really feel lucky, did the team really find out that way?” he asked.

“Yeah, yeah they did. They are worried, of course, but understand that you’ll explain when you’re ready.”

“Good, when can I get out of here?” Eddie just laughed and shook his head.

“I’ll go ask. Maddie brought your other prosthetic, I’m afraid the one you were wearing that night is too damaged now.”

“It’s a good thing I had a spar then. They are expensive.”

“I’m sure. Wait here, I’ll go check.” Eddie pressed a kiss to Buck’s lips. Eddie left the room and went over to the nurse’s station. It wasn’t long before Eddie came back into the room with a smile.

“Well?” Buck asked with a quirk of an eyebrow.

“Good news you can go home soon, but they want to keep you one more day for observation ‘cause of the head injury.” Buck just pouted which cause Eddie to just smile at him.

“But I want to go home, Eds.”

“I know, cariño, I know. But you know how bad concussions can be.”

“I know.” Buck sighs and looks back over at Eddie. “I just hate hospitals.”

“I know, Ev. I don’t like hospitals either.” Eddie sighed as he looked over at him. “Scoot over.” Buck gave him a look before scooting over a bit and Eddie slid into the bed next to him and held him. Buck sighed happily before falling into an easy sleep.

The next morning Buck was getting ready to leave the hospital. He was sitting on the edge of the bed and attached the prosthetic with practiced ease as a knock sounded on the door. Buck looked up to see Bobby standing in the doorway with a couple of breakfast burritos wrapped in foil. Buck just smiled and motioned him to come in.

“Hey Bobby, how are you doing?” he asked. Bobby handed the burrito to him, and Buck smiled and accepted it.

“I’m okay, but how are you doing?” he looked down at the prosthetic before wincing and quickly shifted his gaze back to Buck’s blue eyes. “Why didn’t you tell me about that?”

“I’m okay, Bobby really. I don’t really have a good reason to explain why I didn’t tell you expect that I hate the pitying looks I get from people when they see it.”

“When did it happen?”

“A long time ago, I don’t really want to repeat the story more then once, would you mind if I waited until everyone is gathered in one place?”

“But you promise to tell us?”

“I promise Bobby, give me a hand, would you? Standing right after putting it on is always a little tough.” Bobby just nodded and offered his arm and helped the younger firefighter to stand.

“You good?”

“I’m always stiff in the mornings, cap.” Buck said with a smile as Eddie came back in the room.

“I got the truck pulled around, nice to see you Cap.” Eddie said with a smile.

“Good to see that Buck is taken care of already, Eddie. I brought breakfast and an invite. The whole crew is coming over for a BBQ later, if you’re up for it.” The two shared a look and Buck just nodded.

“Yeah, we’ll be there, Cap.” Eddie said with a smile and Bobby clapped a hand on Buck’s shoulder before leaving the two alone in the room.

“Well, that was kind of awkward. Think he’s mad that I didn’t tell him about my leg?” Buck asked his boyfriend.

“Maybe, but I’m sure once you explain everything tonight, they’ll understand.” Eddie said as he squeezed his hand as they headed out of the hospital.

That night they had all gathered into Eddie’s truck. Christopher chatting away about space, his latest obsession he and Buck have been looking up. It put Eddie at ease. In addition to themselves Buck was bringing some of the stuff that he had while a SEAL. Buck never liked to admit it, but he was a sniper on his SEAL team. He never liked taking another’s life and only ever did it if and when it was needed. So, in his bag was all his medals and ribbons and a picture of him in uniform and one of his team together. He hoped that the kids would be in another room or possibly outside while he talked to his team. Eddie squeezed Buck’s hand in reassurance as they parked on the street behind Hen’s car.

“Are you ready for this?” Eddie asked quietly.

“Yeah, let’s do this.”

The small family walked up the walkway and to the door. Athena opened up the door with a large smile on her face. She wrapped Buck in a large hug and kissed his cheek.

“Buckaroo, its so good seeing you up and about. How are you feeling?”

“I’m alright, my ribs hurt but other then that, I’m alright.” Athena just nodded and lead the three of them down the stairs.

Hen was the first one to see them and came over and wrapped Buck in a big but gentle hug. She let go and kissed his cheek as she checked the wound on his forehead. Buck just smiled at her, and she nodded in relief.

“Dad, can I go play with Harry and Denny?” Chris asked as they made it down the stairs.

“Of course, mijo, you go have fun.” Eddie said with a smile. The kids were off playing whatever outside which left the adults to talk in the kitchen.

“Can we have the story now?” Chim asked and Maddie slapped him in response with a light glare.

“Well, right to it then.” Buck commented as he was handed a soda. “I kind of told Bobby a little bit last year, remember when I said I tried out for the SEAL’s?”

“I remember, I also remember that you said that you dropped out of the training.” Bobby said.

“I kind of lied about that. I got through the training and was with the SEAL’s for about three years. I was a sniper for my unit. I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want you guys to think anything differently about me. I was good, but I didn’t like to take anyone’s life. It’s part of the reason why I became a firefighter. But I didn’t say anything, not because I was ashamed of my service but because I didn’t like the looks I would receive when I told people what branch I served.”

“I’m proud of you for serving Buckaroo.” Hen said with a wild smile. “It makes sense now how the two of you are so close.”

“We should, I saved the grunts ass once.” Buck said winking at his boyfriend.

“Wouldn’t have it any other way, you slimy squid.” Eddie remarked right away.

“What do you mean you saved him?” Bobby asked.

“Before I lost my leg, I was with the unit that saved him and his team when their helicopter went down.”

“Right, that’s when you got the silver star, right Eddie?” Chim asked.

“Yeah, and my purple heart.”

“It’s how I got this.” Buck said pulling out his Navy Cross.

“Wow, wait, where does this fall on the list of medals?” Chim asked.

“Right below the Medal of Honor.” Eddie said looking at Buck with a proud look on his face.

“What else do you got?” Hen asked.

“I also have a purple heart, but that’s obvious.”

“So, how did you lose your leg?” Bobby asked.

“Well, um, it’s not a story I really like but I’ll have to tell you whole story. So, it happened on a mission, I can’t tell you what the mission was on, top secret and all, but we were heading to an undisclosed location when our Humvee was hit with a roadside bomb. I took a lot of shrapnel to my calf, and it was barely hanging on, like by a few ligaments. I don’t really remember much of it but it was bad.”

“Sounds like it was bad. I didn’t know that you could still be a firefighter with a prosthetic.” Hen said.

“I worked my ass off, that’s for sure. I wasn’t sure I would be either, but the higher ups assured me that it wouldn’t be a problem.” Buck said.

“Well, I for one am really glad that the truck landed on the prosthetic leg rather then your other leg.” Maddie said with a smile.

“Aren’t we all.” The team chimed as one as they chuckled. And Buck felt lighter then he had in years knowing that his family will always have his back.

Chapter Text

*A Year Prior*

When Buck had walked into the station for his shift the last thing he expected to see was Eddie Diaz changing in the locker room. The last time he saw the medic was when he had saved him when his convoy was hit and before he had lost his lower left leg. Buck did tell the department about his prosthetic, and he has proved that he can do the job with it.

“Hen, Chim, Buck meet Eddie Diaz, new recruit. He was an Army medic and has a silver star.” Bobby said introducing them to the former medic.

“Hey Eddie, I’m Hen, this is Chim.” Hen said to the man.

Buck had stayed back not really wanting to break the spell. When Eddie looked at him and recognition filled Eddie’s brown eyes, Buck just gently shook his head. Eddie nodded minisculely before going back and talking with the rest of the crew.

After the shift, where Buck pretended to be hostile, they met at Eddie’s place. There they actually embraced like old friends.

“How the hell have you been, Texas?” Buck asked after they made their way inside.

“I’ve been better and worse.” Eddie said with a laugh at the nickname. “When did you get out of the SEAL’s, Kid?”

“God, that’s a name I haven’t heard in a while. I go by Buck now.” Buck said then answered his question. “I got out shortly after the helicopter crash.”

“What happened?” the concern on Eddie’s face was prominent.

“I’ll tell you later, can I come inside? Is Chris and Shannon here too?”

“Chris yes, Shannon no. Shannon and I divorced shortly after I got home. She left after that, and we haven’t seen her since.”

“Wow, what a bitch.” Eddie just smiled and lead Buck into the house.

“Daddy! You’re home!” a voice called from the living room.

A young boy with wild curls and crutches made his way over as fast as he could. Father and son embraced, and Buck smiled just as someone cleared their throat. Buck looked up to see an older Hispanic lady looking at him. Eddie just smiled at the woman.

“¿Eddito, quien es este?” the woman asked.

“Solo un amigo del servicio, Tía Pepa.” Eddie responded.

“Hola, mi nombre es Buck. Yo era parte del equipo que salvó a Eddie en el accidente del helicóptero.” Buck replied in perfect Spanish.

Pepa smiled and brought Buck into a tight hug, whispering thank you in his ear. Buck looked over and Eddie just grinned at him. Chris was smiling just as widely.

“When did you learn Spanish anyway?” Eddie asked after his aunt left.

“In the SEAL’s you have to know a few languages. Spanish is one of the ones that I know.”

“Daddy, who is that?” Chris asked. Eddie then knelt down to his son’s level.

“This is one of my new co-workers but he served as well. Do you remember my accident and how I came home early from the Army?” Chris nodded and Eddie continued. “Well Buck here saved me and now we work together.”

“But he said that he was a Seal, he doesn’t look like a seal.” Chris said tilting his head to the side. This caused Buck and Eddie to laugh.

“No, mijo, not that kind of seal. Have you heard of the Navy?”

“That’s another branch, right?”

“That’s right, mijo. Well, the Navy has a special until called the SEAL’s. They do a lot of the rescues.” Eddie said toning it down a bit for his seven-year-old son.

“That is so cool. You saved Daddy?” Chris asked wide eyed.

“I sure did.”

“So why are you home too? Did you get hurt too, Bucky?”

“I did, why don’t we sit down. And I’ll show you and your dad.” Chris made his way to the couch and Eddie looked at him.

“Are you sure, Buck?”

“Yeah, it’s kinda hard to tone down but I’ll try.” Eddie nodded and they sat down on the couch.

“Well, Chris, I kind of got hurt really bad shortly after I rescued your Dad. We were on a mission, and I hurt my leg badly.” Buck then lifted up his pant leg to show the prosthetic.

“Wow, you’re like Cyborg!” Chris exclaimed.

“I guess so!” Buck said with a laugh.

“Alright, mijo, why don’t you go and get ready for bed.”

Once they got Chris in bed and a story read the two were back in the living room. Eddie handed Buck a beer and they sat down in the living room. Eddie had turned on a quiet movie.

“So, what really happened to your leg?” Eddie asked. Buck looked at him trying to find the words.

“Shortly after the helicopter, my team was sent on a mission. We got hit by a roadside bomb. My leg took the brunt of it.”

“I can imagine.” Eddie said softly, he knew how bad those injuries can be. “I always thought you were badass, but now, I know you really are. Nobody else knows about this?”

“Nah, the department knows, they said it was up to me to tell anybody else.”

“And will you tell them?”

“Eventually, yeah.” Buck took a swig of his beer before turning to look at Eddie. “Was what happened between us a catalyst for your divorce?” Eddie took a swig himself.

“Part of it but not the main reason. Though she may have expected it. The main reason was we were always fighting, and the PTSD didn’t help any.”

“I still think about that night.” Buck admitted quietly several seconds later.

“I do too, Buck.” Eddie admitted.

*Flashback 2015- One Day Before the Helicopter Crash*

The heat of the desert was something that Evan never thought he would get used to. He was stationed with several branches on a base in Afghanistan. On this particular day he finally got the nerve to talk to the handsome medic he often spotted near the aid station.

“So, is today the day, Kid?” Brian, his teammate asks with a teasing smile.

“Yeah,” Evan smiled then walked over to the handsome medic.

“Hey, I’m Evan. I just have to say you are very handsome.” Evan said as he came up to the medic. From this close he could read the name Diaz on his fatigues. The medic stopped what he was doing to appraise the SEAL.

“You’re not so bad yourself, I’m Eddie.” Eddie said looking Evan up and down.

“You want to go somewhere more private?”

“I’m married, Evan.”

“That doesn’t really bother me, everyone needs some release, especially here.”

“Good point,” Eddie said then looked at him again. “I have time, mine or yours?”

“Mine is a little closer.” Evan said before grabbing Eddie’s hand and leading him to his bunk. His teammates would make sure that no one will walk in on them.

Evan pinned Eddie to the bed as they kissed and undressed each other. Eddie was surprised by how affected he was by the man. He had never felt like this at all with Shannon. Every time he and Shannon had sex, he would think of someone else, like Chris Evans or Jensen Ackles, rather then the woman beneath him. After they both lay panting in each other’s arms, Eddie was certain, now more then ever that he was in fact gay.

“Is it always like that?” Eddie panted turning to the SEAL.

“Sex with a guy, sure. Was they your first time?”

“That obvious?”

“Nah, just surprised. Maybe there will be more next time?” Evan asked hopefully.

“Definitely, you know where to find me.” Eddie said leaning over and giving the man a kiss. Except the next time didn’t happen, Eddie was medically discharged after the crash after being shot in 3 places.

*End Flashback*

“You know, after that night, I came to the realization that I’m gay.” Eddie said. Buck stopped mid sip and looked over at Eddie in shock.

“I really was your gay awakening, huh? Sorry about that.” Buck apologized.

“Don’t be, I’m not. To be honest, I should have realized a lot sooner. Because whenever I would touch my wife, I would think of either Chris Evans or Hemsworth.” Eddie said with a swig of his beer.

“Then I retract my previous statement.” Buck said with a smirk. Then looked at Eddie more seriously. “Do you still think about it?” Eddie considered him for a second before answering.

“Yeah, all the time. I thought about what you were doing specifically. Always thought about you too when I, ya know.” He said with a bit of a blush coloring his cheeks.

“Really now? Cause I thought about you too.”

“Aren’t you waiting on your girlfriend?” Eddie asked with a slight scowl.

“Nah, she was never mine. We just told people that. I’m actually not expecting her to come back.”

“Good,” Eddie said then climbed into Buck’s lap. Buck just smiled and placed his hands on his hips.

“You’ve been waiting to do that all night, haven’t you?” Buck smirked, their lips barely touching.

“Hell yeah,” Eddie breathed, and their lips connected for the first time in years.

Eddie whined when Buck licked into his mouth. After what seemed like hours they parted, foreheads resting against each other. Lust filled each of their eyes.

“Come to bed with me, querido.” Eddie whispered. Buck nodded and he followed Eddie into the room.

Buck woke up so comfortable, he did not want to get up. He was naked and draped all over Eddie, his head resting over Eddie’s heart, and he could hear the gentle thump of his heart. Buck gently rubbed the raised scar of the old gunshot wound on his shoulder. He remembered when Eddie had gotten this injury and he was happy that he had healed from this.

“You’re staring.” Eddie grumbled sleepily.

“It’s a good way to wake up.” Buck said with a grin. Eddie rubbed his eyes and looked over at the alarm clock and groaned.

“I got to get Chris up and ready for school.”

“I can get started on breakfast, if you want.” Buck offered.

“Really? Are you sure?” Buck just smiled and kissed him.

“I’m sure, you go get little man up and I’ll get started on breakfast.” Eddie smiled and kissed him again.

They got up and got started on the day. Buck was in the kitchen, and he could hear the shower running. He smiled; this is now what he imagined his life to turn out, but he wouldn’t want it any other way.

Chapter Text

It was a few months later, everyone was now used to the prosthetic. Bobby had kept a close watch on Buck and Hen and Chim did as well. Buck knew that it was because they were worried now that they knew about the prosthetic.

Today was not going to be a good day, Buck could tell.  When he woke up his stump was throbbing with pain. Buck knew that it was raining before he even opened his eyes. Eddie was wrapped around him, and Buck felt him wake up as Buck groaned in pain.

“Babe, are you okay?” Eddie asked sleepily.

“I’m fine, Eds.”

“Bull, what’s going on?” he asked sitting up and peering at Buck worriedly. That’s when he heard the patter of rain hitting the window. “Are you hurting?”

“Throbbing, it always does this when it rains. Thank God it barely rains in LA.” Buck said with a grimace.

“Roll over.” Eddie said and Buck did.

Eddie gently took the stump in his rough hands and began to gently knead the flesh, being careful of the fragile bones you can feel at the bottom of the stump. Eddie’s skilled fingers sent waves of pleasure straight to Buck’s groin. It caused Buck to groan, not from pain but from pleasure.

“Really, cariño?” Eddie said as he spotted his dick tenting in his boxers.

“What? Your fingers are magical, babe. I can’t help it.” Buck said with a wicked grin on his face.

“Maybe I should help you out before we have to head into work.” Eddie said with a grin himself.

“Oh, fuck yes,” Buck groaned as he shoved his shorts down.

Eddie grinned as he took in Buck. He looked a lot better now that he was focused on getting off rather then the pain in his stump. So, Eddie decided to help with that and swallowed him down with practiced ease as Buck groaned.

Eddie always felt pride when he got Buck to come pretty quickly. Buck panted as he leaned forward and brought Eddie in for a filthy kiss. Buck groaned as he could taste himself on Eddie’s tongue.

“C’mon, let’s go shower, mi amor.” Eddie said with a smile.

“I can’t return the favor, Eds?” he asked with a pout.

“Later amor, maybe after our shift.” Eddie said with a smile.

“Promise?”

“Promise.”

“Alright, let’s go shower, we’re gonna be in for a tough shift. I can already tell.” He said as they headed to the bathroom so they could shower.

Eddie had stayed the night as Chris asked for a sleepover at Hen’s so he could hang out with Denny. Buck loved it when he had the whole night with Eddie. He loved Christopher like his own, but he really didn’t want to scar him.

An hour later they were walking into the station. Buck had a slight limp in his gait, thanks to the weather. Bobby had spotted it right away and gave Buck a concerned look as Buck and Eddie headed up to the loft.

“Buck, are you okay?” Bobby asked.

“Fine Cap, just the weather.” He responded.

“Will you be okay to work?”

“Yeah, can’t keep me away.” He said with a grin.

“You know one of these days you’re gonna actually call in and it’s gonna give us all a heart attack.” Hen said as she sips on a cup of coffee.

“That’ll be the day.” Buck laughs as he makes himself and Eddie a cup of coffee.

“Are you sure you’ll be okay to work, Buckaroo?” Chim asked.

“I’m sure, it’ll help me keep my mind off the throbbing.” He responded.

“That makes sense.” Bobby said as he handed everyone their own omelet.

“If you’re sure, Buck.” Hen said.

“I’m sure guys. I appreciate your concern though.” Buck said smiling at his family.

They had enough time to finish eating only when they got called out to a multi-vehicle pile-up on the interstate. Buck resigned himself to popping a couple of ibuprofens in the hope it would dull the ache in his stump.

They pulled up the to the scene to see several cars crushed together. There was even a semi and a couple of motorcycles. The rain hadn’t let up even once.

“Alright guys, listen up. The 133 and the 136 are backing us up on this. Multiple ambulances are on the way. I want you all to partner up and assess those that you can. Keep in contact with each other, we don’t need anyone hurt. Got it?” Bobby said.

“Copy that, Cap.” The crew said.

Buck and Eddie teamed up, as usual, and headed to the car in the middle. They knew the chances of finding anyone alive were slim in the middle of the pile-up. Buck took the driver’s side as Eddie took the passenger side.

The driver was covered in blood. His head resting on the steering wheel. Buck placed two fingers on the driver’s pulse point and waited. After a bit Buck shook his head and looked over at Eddie who shook his head as well.

“Cap, red sedan in the middle, we need two body bags.” Eddied said into his radio.

“Copy that.” Bobby responded.

The next car was a silver SUV and they could hear crying coming from the backseat. Buck and Eddie rushed over to see a toddler strapped into her car seat. She looked completely fine except for a small cut on her forehead.

“Hey sweetie, are you okay?” Buck asked gently in order to not scare her.

“Head hurt.” The little girl said with a pout.

“I know sweetie, does anything else hurt?”

“No, mama hurt.” She said pointing at the driver’s seat.

“Eddie, the driver, I got the girl.” Eddie nodded as Buck tried to open the door.

The door was stuck so Buck raced to get the Jaws to pop the door open. The little girl looked at him teary eyed. Buck smiled at her reassuringly.

“This is gonna be loud, sweetie. Can you cover your ears for me?” Buck asked and the little girl nodded.

She covered her ears and Buck got to work opening the doors. Eddie handed him a child’s size c-collar with a soft smile. The mom is alive but unconscious, which made Buck feel a lot better knowing that the little girl wouldn’t lose her mom.

“Hey Buck, can you come over here for a minute?” Hen asked through the radio.

“Sure, is everything okay Hen?” Buck asked.

“Yeah, I just need you.”

“Alright, be over there soon. You got this Eds?” he asked Eddie.

“I do, go.” Eddie said with a smile.

Buck nodded and headed to were Hen and Chim were working. They were working on a motorcyclist that looks like he lost his leg. Chim looked to be packing the wound as Hen was trying to calm the guy down.

“Buck, this is Matt. I need some help calming him down.” Hen said.

“Hey Matt, I’m Buck.”

“Save me the pleasantries. My life is over now.” Matt said with an emotionless voice. Buck knew now why Hen had called him over.

“You know, losing your leg doesn’t mean your life is over. It just means a new chapter is beginning.” Buck said simply, sitting down next to him.

“You don’t know shit.” The guy spit.

“Matt, out of everyone here, Buck knows this more then anyone.” Hen said.

“What?” he asked.

Buck simply pulled up his pant leg to show him the prosthetic. Matt just stared at it, his face a little pale.

“You’re a firefighter though. How is that possible?”

“Well, I lost it before I joined the academy. I can do everything required, sure sometimes it takes more effort than others but that doesn’t stop me. You can do anything you set your mind to, Matt.”

“Thank you, Buck.” Matt said simply then turned to Hen and Chim. “Let’s get me to the hospital then.” They loaded him up on the gurney and before they could roll him away. Buck pulled Hen to the side.

“Give him my number. Tell him to get ahold of me if he needs to talk.” Buck said.

“You have a good heart, Buckaroo.” Hen said with a proud smile.

“I just know what he is going through.” Buck said shrugging his shoulders.

“Still, never change. Go back to your man.” Buck nodded as he headed back to where he left his boyfriend.

Eddie had just handed the little girl and her mom off with an ambulance crew. He gave Buck a concerned look who simply smiled back at him.

“What was that about?” he asked.

“Just a guy who needed help with finding a reason to live now that he’s down a leg.” Buck said and Eddie smiled at him.

“Good, if anyone can help him, you definitely can.” He said.

“How was the girl?”

“Sierra was very good for a three-year-old. You were great with her.”

“I love kids, you know that.”

“I do. You’re great with Christopher.”

“Do you want another kid?”

“I think we should talk about this later, cariño. We need to focus on this and not expanding our family.” Eddie said with a smile as they headed to the next car.

Once they finished up at the scene Buck was extremely sore. It took them almost four hours to clear the scene. Buck was nervous because he really did want a child of his own, but he really loves Eddie and Christopher and will go with what they want.

They made it back to the station and they were able to relax a bit. Buck and Eddie were sitting next to each other in the lounge area. Buck turned to look at Eddie, they were mostly alone. Bobby was cooking lunch and Hen and Chim were downstairs getting a workout done.

“So, would you like to have another kid, Eds?” Buck asked and Eddie just smiled brightly at him.

Chapter 4

“Yeah, I would really like to have another one.” Eddie said softly as they were in the loft.

“Have you ever heard of HWS?”

“What’s HWS?”

“Hidden Womb Syndrome. I’m able to carry out child, Eddie. It’s very rare. It happens in 1 in 100,000 male births.” Buck said simply keeping his eyes locked on Eddie’s beautiful brown eyes.

“That’s…wow…That’s incredible. How have you not gotten pregnant yet then? We haven’t been all that careful.” Eddie asked as he was shocked.

“I have a pretty awesome birth control. It took a while but I found a pretty good doctor while I was with the SEAL’s.”

“That’s amazing.” Eddie breathed then brought him in for a kiss. “You’re amazing. We can start trying?”

“Once I get my birth control removed, we can definitely start trying next week.”

“That’ll explain why I haven’t seen you taking any pills. Where is it?” he asked quirking his eyebrow at his boyfriend.

“I’m surprised you haven’t seen it.” Buck said rolling his sleeve farther up to show his inner arm. Eddie saw a small scare on the inside of his left arm.

“I never even noticed that before.” Eddie said softly tracing the scar and feeling the little device just underneath the skin.

“It’s due to come out next week. Figured I’d talk to you about possibly start trying before it comes out.”

Eddie smiled widely before kissing Buck again. A throat clearing behind them caused them to break apart with sheepish looks on their faces as they looked over at Bobby who had a grin on his face.

“Keep it professional at work boys.” Bobby said with a teasing note to his voice.

“Sorry Cap.” Buck and Eddie said together while smiling.

“No you’re not, c’mon boys. I’ve got lunch ready.” He said still smiling as he gestured to the table with his head.

The two stood up and went and sat at the table. Hen and Chim smiled at them with knowing smiles which caused Buck to hold back a groan. They were gonna be in for so much teasing.

“So, what were the two of you talking about?” Chime asked, his smile wide.

“Nothing that we want to tell you.” Eddie said with a grin.

“I bet it was something kinky.” Hen said.

“Whatever it was we don’t need to know and they don’t need to tell us.” Bobby said as they sat around the table.

“Thanks Cap.”

“But that’s no fun.” Chim said with a pout.

“We don’t have to tell you guys everything, you know.” Eddie said.

“Mean.” Chim stated which caused them both to laugh.

The rest of the shift went by like crazy. They worked several more accidents. Buck firmly believed that the people in LA do not know how to drive in the rain. Stations all over the city had been called out to multiple accidents. It was a very busy day and Buck and Eddie were very happy to be heading home.

“You think we should talk to Chris about if he wants a sibling?” Buck asks tiredly as Eddie drove them back to his house.

“Yeah, we probably should so he doesn’t get shocked.” Eddie said.

“Do you think he’ll be okay with it?”

“I think he’ll be thrilled and will want one or two.” Eddie said with a chuckle. “How many kids do you want?”

“As many as you want. I always wanted a big family, Eds. We’ll have to talk to your parents, finally tell them.”

“Yeah, I know, they probably won’t be happy. They were very upset about the divorce because I really didn’t want to tell them the truth.”

“I should probably call my parents. God, I haven’t talked to them since I joined the SEAL’s.”

“Yeah, you don’t talk about them. I’m kind of worried about why.”

“I mean I wasn’t physically abused but definitely emotionally abused. They were better with Maddie. You may have noticed the age differences between the two of us.”

“Yeah, I found it kind of interesting.”

“Yeah, well they never really said it outright, but I know that I must have been a mistake.”

“Hey, don’t say that you’re amazing and I love you.” Eddie said pressing a kiss to Buck’s hand and Buck had to smile at him.

They made it home and walked into the house. Carla had made something for dinner, and it smelled so good. Chris looked over when they entered with a wide smile on his face.

“Bucky! Dad! You’re home!” Chris yelled excitedly, wiggling in his chair.

“Yeah, we’re home safe and sound.”

“It rained a lot. Did you have to work a lot of accidents?” he asked.

“We did, Superman. It was crazy. We’re just happy that we made it home safe and sound.” Buck said pressing a kiss to his wild curls.

“We had something to talk to you about.” Eddie told Chris.

“And that’s my cue to head on home. You three have a good night.” Carla said with a wide smile. “You two are off tomorrow, right?”

“Yep, you spend the day with your family, Carla. Thank you.” Eddie said.

Carla gave each of them a hug before leaving the house. They sat around the table with Chris. Chris looked between the two of them with a curious look on his face.

“What did you want to talk to me about?” Chris asked curiously.

“Well, mijo, Buck told me something pretty interesting today and before we did anything we wanted to run it by you.” Eddie said.

“It’s not bad, is it? Wait, are you getting married, finally?” Chris asked with a smile.

“Well, not right now, but is that something you would want?” Buck asked gently looked over at Eddie.

“Well yeah, I would love that.”

“Okay mijo, Buck and I will talk about it later. But we wanted to talk to you about something else.” Eddie said.

“Okay?”

“Well, how would you like to have a little brother or sister?” Eddie asked.

“I though only girls can have babies.” Chris said with a confused expression on his face.

“Well, mostly. But some boys are able to have babies.”

“Wow! Wait, does the question mean that Buck is pregnant or are you?” he asked, he looked excited about the aspect.

“No, not yet. Would you be okay with a sibling?” Buck asked.

“I would love that!” Chris exclaimed, bouncing in his seat excitedly.

“Okay Superman, it’s not gonna happen right away. There are a few things that need to happen before I can get pregnant.” Buck said.

“So, you are gonna be the one?”

“Yeah, I have the capability to do that. Not many people know I’m able to.”

“Why not?”

“Because, well, I just haven’t. I figured it didn’t matter until it was something I wanted with someone. And I want this with you guys.”

“Nobody would view you differently. Chim may say something but not for long not if we have something to say about it.” Eddie said.

“I know I know.”

Chris then came over and hugged Buck and he wrapped his arms around the boy. Buck loved this little boy like his own. Hen then pressed a kiss to Chris’ wild curls.

“I think it’s bedtime, mijo.” Eddie said.

“Okay, can Bucky read me a story tonight?”

“Of course, I will, go get ready for bed and we’ll be in there shortly.” Buck said.

Chris went off to brush his teeth leaving Buck and Eddie alone. They smiled at each other and they kissed softly.

“Do you want to get married?” Eddie whispered against his lips.

“Is this your way of proposing to me, Eds?” Buck chuckled as he kissed him again.

“What if it is?” Eddie asked quirking an eyebrow.

“Then my answer would be yes. But you better get me a ring, babe.” Eddie just smiled at Buck.

He stepped away for a second and went to the desk. Eddie pulled out a little black box and walked back over and opened it. Inside there was a black ring with a blue stripe around the middle. Buck felt chocked up as he smiled widely as Eddie slipped the ring onto his finger, it was a perfect fit.

“When did you get this?” Buck asked with tears in his eyes.

“Last week. Chris kind of stole my thunder. I was planning something special.”

“This was plenty special, Eds.”

“Good, I love you so much, Ev.”

“I love you too.” They kissed one more time before Chris hollered for them.

“Bucky! Dad! Story time!” Buck laughed as he and Eddie made their way to Chris’ bedroom.

They read to Chris and soon he fell fast asleep. They smiled at each other before heading to Eddie’s room and laid down smiling at each other.

“You should move in with us, cariño.” Eddie whispered as they cuddled in bed.

“Took you long enough, Eds.” Buck said with a smile. “I would love to.” He said placing a kiss to Eddie’s chest.

“Good.” He whispered placing a kiss to Buck’s wild curls. They fell asleep pretty quickly in each other’s arms.

Chapter Text

The following week found Buck and Eddie in Buck’s doctor’s office at the VA to get his birth control removed. Buck was bouncing his knee up and down in nervously as they waited for his doctor to walk in.

“Why are you so nervous, Ev. We’re just here to remove your birth control.” Eddie said squeezing his hand in support.

“I know, Eds. I just hate going to Doctor appointments.” Buck said with a shaky smile.

“Everyone does, cariño. But after this, we’ll get to try for a baby and that is the fun part.” He said pressing a kiss to his hand.

Buck smiled brightly at him as a knock sounded at the door. The door opened and his doctor stepped in. She was a kind looking woman with her black hair tied up in a bun.

“It’s good to see you again, Mr. Buckley, I understand that you’re wanting to remove your birth control, correct.” She asked sitting down at the chair facing them.

“Yeah, we want to start trying for a baby.” Buck said with a smile.

The doctor smiled widely and added something to his chart.

“I’m happy for you two.” She said then pulled on some gloves. “Alright, let’s get you laying down and hold you’re arm out. We’re gonna numb the area and then get this out.”

“Just like that?” Eddie asked.

“Just like that.” She smiled. “I’m gonna go grab a nurse and the anesthetic and we’ll get this show on the road.

She left the room, and they were left alone. Eddie smiled and kissed him softly.

“I can’t wait until we can go home, and I can take you apart.” Eddie said and Buck groaned softly.

“I can’t wait.” Buck whispered blushing a bit.

Eddie chuckled and the doctor knocked on the door again. She and a nurse stepped in, and Buck was already laying back with his arm out. The nurse cleaned the area and stuck the needle in for anesthetic in his arm.

It didn’t take long for all feeling to go away in the area. The doctor took a scalpel and Buck looked away as they got the birth control out.

“It’s out.” She said showing him the thin rod taken from his arm.

“Wow, I was thinking that it would be bigger.” Buck said.

“That was faster than I thought.” Eddie said.

“Easy peasy.” The doctor said as they bandaged the area. “You two are free to go. Oh, I suggest if you really want to make sure a pregnancy takes then take some prenatals right away.

“Will do, thanks Doc.” Buck said and the two walked out of the exam room with Buck’s arm just a little it sore.

“So I guess we should stop at the store and get some prenatals.” Eddie said wrapping an arm around Buck’s waist as they walked out of the building.

“Sounds like a plan.” He said with a smile as they got into Eddie’s truck.

They stopped at a Walgreen’s and picked up the prenatals. It didn’t take long until they were home. Once they were through the door Eddie pounced on Buck. Chris was at school, and they had hours before he would be home.

“This was your plan all along.” Buck groaned as his back hit the wall.

“Yep, I couldn’t wait to get your home and devour you, mi amor.” Eddie said pressing kisses to Buck’s neck, sucking here and there, leaving marks as he went.

“I love it.” He breathed.

“C’mon, bedroom now.”

Eddie grabbed his hand and they headed to the bedroom, clothes immediately coming off when the bedroom door closed. Buck laid back on the bed, with a smile on his face, his dick already standing erect as Eddie looked over him with a hungry look.

“Can I take this off?” he asked, his hand going over the prosthetic leg.

“Of course.” Buck breathed and Eddie made quick work of removing the leg.

Once the leg was off, Eddie took his cock and sucked it down, hollowing his cheeks in one go.

“Oh God, Eds.” He moaned, his eyes closing in bliss.

Eddie grinned around him as he started going over his hold. Buck arched his hips at the feeling as Eddie slowly opened him up. Eddie loved slowly tearing Buck apart. Eddie kept a firm grip on the base of Buck’s dick and stopped for a bit every time Buck was close to coming.

“Eds, please, I need you now.” Buck moaned.

“Patience, mi amor. I can’t wait until you’re round with our child. It’ll be a sight to behold.” Eddie whispered kissing his inner thighs.

“Then fill me Eds, give it to me so I can grow our child.” Buck groaned.

Eddie smiled and removed his fingers as he lubed up his dick. Eddie then slowly entered him, causing Buck to groan at the feeling of being filled. Eddie bottomed out and stilled before he started pumping his hips.

They moved together flipped positions before they both came together. Buck was sitting on Eddie’s lap, straddling his waist when they came. Buck flopped down with Eddie still deep inside him. Eddie wrapped his arms around Buck and kissed him.

“I can’t wait until you’re pregnant with our child, cariño.” Eddie said pressing a kiss to Buck’s birthmark.

“Hmm, I can’t wait.” Buck said with a happy sigh as he fell asleep on Eddie’s chest.

Eddie chuckled as he rubbed Buck’s back as Eddie fell asleep. It was probably the deepest and quickest Eddie slept in a while.

They woke up a while later and Eddie looked over to see that they still had two hours before Chris would be home. Smiling, Eddie got to work to go another round. Buck always did like waking up to sex.

Smiling to himself Eddie began kissing gently down his sleeping boyfriend’s chest. Paying special attention to his belly, he couldn’t wait to see Buck round with their baby. Buck moaned underneath him as he slowly began to wake under his ministrations.

“Hmm, good morning to me.” Buck said with a sleepy grin on his face.

“It’s afternoon actually and we have time for one more round before Chis and Carla get here.” Eddie said moving back up and slotting himself between Buck’s open legs, his rapidly hardening dick rubbing against Buck’s already loosened hole.

“Hmm, sounds like a good idea to me.” Buck said giving him a sweet kiss. “What position do you want me in, Eds?”

“On your knees, cariño.” Eddie growled and Buck moaned before flipping over. “How’s your leg doing?”

“I’m fine, now get in me, now Eds. I need you.” Buck said shaking his ass teasingly.

Eddie groaned and slipped inside him in one deep thrust gripping his hips tightly. Eddie wrapped an arm around Buck’s chest and lifted. Buck then wrapped an arm around Eddie’s head as they moved together, slowly trying to draw it out longer but still have enough time to shower.

Eddie continued moving and slapping his hips upwards, causing Buck to moan and whimper. Eddie took his other hand, wrapping it around Buck’s weeping dick. He stroked him to his own thrusts until they both came together.

“Alright, I think I found my favorite position.” Buck panted laying his head on Eddie’s shoulder.

“You did seem to enjoy it more.” Eddie chuckled “C’mon, mi amor, let’s take a shower, you want your leg back on?”

“Nah, I’ll put it on after the shower. Just hand me my crutches.” He said

“Of course.” Eddie said grabbing the crutches and handing them to Buck “I’m gonna get the shower started.”

“Meet you there, Eds.”

They shared a short, sweet kiss as Eddie went to the bathroom. He started the shower, happy that he installed the handrails here as well when Buck started staying over. Sure Buck hated being treated differently but even the best men needed some help sometime. They even had the rails installed at the station.

They showered together, careful not to turn it into more. Chris would be home from school very soon. Once finished Eddie went and grabbed Buck’s sock and leg as Buck dried off and put on lotion.

“Thanks, babe. What do you want to do for dinner?” Buck asked as he put the leg on fairly quickly.

“Enchiladas?”

“Hmm, that does sound very good. You got it. We should have everything.”

“You know we do.” Eddie laughed.

“Dad! Buck! We’re home.” Chris called form the living room causing both men to smile as they slipped their shirts on as they walked out of the room to greet their son.

Several weeks later Buck started to feel sick to his stomach. Immediately he knew what was going on, but he went out and bought a couple of tests anyway to take. Once bought he made his way home.

Several minutes later the tests, both showed positive. Buck beamed as he took them in. Eddie had a shift without him today, so Buck had to come up with a creative way of telling Eddie. Maybe have Chris involved or something.

Buck ended up wrapping the tests in a box to give to Eddie and finding a shirt for Chris that says, ‘Promoted to Big Brother’. Buck was all giddy and happy, couldn’t wait for Eddie to come home.

Buck was getting impatient with waiting for Eddie. Chris was laughing at Buck who was impatient and pacing. Buck practically jumped on Eddie as soon as he made his way through the door.

“Well, this is a nice surprise. What’s gotten into you today?” Eddie asked chuckling as he kissed him gently.

“I’ve got something for you.” Buck said with a smile as he handed Eddie a small box.

“What’s this? You didn’t have to get me anything.” Eddie said as he opened the box and went wide-eyed as he took in the test in the box. “Seriously? Is this real?”

“Yeah, I took two, both came back positive.” Buck said.

“What’s positive?” Chris asked curiously from the couch.

“This, open this and you’ll see.” Buck said handing Chris a box too. Chris, bright eyed and with a big smile, opened the box. He pulled it out, reading the message on the shirt.

“’Promoted to Big Brother’… Am I getting a little brother or sister?” Chris asked.

“We won’t know yet, mijo, it’s still very early. We won’t know for a few months.” Eddie said with a smile.

“So, Bucky is the one that is carrying the baby?” Chris asked.

“Yes, I’ll be carrying the baby.” Buck said with a smile. “Are you okay with this, Superman?”

“Yeah, I can’t wait! When can we find out?”

“Well, I’ll have to make an appointment. Do you want to be there for the first ultrasound?”

“Can I, please?” Chris asked both of them.

“Of course.” Eddie said with a smile.

Three weeks later found the family in the ultrasound clinic. Buck was lying on the bed with Eddie and Chris sitting in the chairs by the bed. The technician knocked and walked in with a smile on her face.

“Good morning, Mr. Buckley, I’m Tasha. Have you not gone to the bathroom yet?” Tasha asked.

“Yeah, I read that the first ultrasound you need to have a full bladder.” Buck said squirming a little.

“Good, let’s get this show on the road.” Tasha said. She then took the gel and lifted his shirt. “This may be cold.”

Goosebumps littered Buck’s toned stomach then their eyes turned to the screen. Tasha then took the wand and moved it over his belly. On the screen showed two heartbeats and two little baby forms in one sac.

“Um, am I seeing things?” Buck asked quietly as they stared at the screen in shock.

“Nope, you’re definitely carrying twins, identical twins at that.” Tasha said.

“Oh, Dios,” Eddie said with wide eyes.

“Are they both boys or girls?” Chris asked.

“It’s too soon, it’s looks like you’re measuring at 10 weeks. Looks like you’re due July 4th. More then likely you’ll deliver early. Twins are usually delivered early but most men who carry twins will carry to term.” Tasha said.

“Well, that’s good to know. I guess I’ll be stuck doing light duty at work.” Buck said.

“Can we get paperwork for the LAFD?” Eddie asked.

“You’re both firefighters?” she asked.

“Yep,” Buck said nodding his head.

“Okay, light duty would be preferable at the moment. You can probably help with medical calls but no heavy lifting and definitely no fires.”

“Got it.” He said wiping the gel off his belly and slowly sitting up, so he doesn’t get dizzy.

“Let’s get out of here, I really need to pee.” Buck said as he headed to the restroom.

“I can imagine. Dios mío, there’s two, we’re gonna be outnumbered.” Eddie said suddenly turning pale.

“It’s okay Dad, I can help.” Chris said and Eddie turned to look at him with a smile.

“You’ll be the biggest help ever, mijo.” He said as Buck walked back out of the bathroom. “Ready to head out cariño?”

“Yeah, Bobby hinted at spaghetti and meatballs for lunch. Said we were welcome.” Buck said with a smile.

“That does sound good. Let’s go.” Eddie said with a smile.

It still felt like a dream, they are expanding their family and not by one but by two. Seeing those two little heartbeats just made Eddie so happy.

“Still reeling?” Buck asked as they headed to the station.

“Yeah, but we’ll be okay. We may be outnumbered soon but we have each other’s backs.”

“Good, because I’ve always wanted a big family.”

“I would love that, a house full of kids, but only with you, Ev.”

“I would like more siblings.” Chris said from the backseat.

“Well, you heard the bass.” Buck said with a laugh as they pulled into the station.

“We’ll see mijo. We’ll have to wait until the twins are here.” Eddie said.

“Okay,” Chris said as they got to the station.

The smell of garlic bread filled the station causing Buck’s stomach to rumble loudly. Eddie smiled at Buck and shook his head as Buck blushed bright and Chris to laugh loudly. At Chris’ laugh the other firefighters looked over the balcony.

“Oh good, you guys made it.” Bobby said with smile. “C’mon up you three. Lunch is done.

“Do you think we should tell them now or wait a few more weeks?” Eddie asked as they helped Chris up the stairs.

“Now, I don’t think I’d be able to keep it quiet for that long.” Buck said fishing out an ultrasound to show the crew.

“So, what brought you to the station on your day off?” Chim asked with a smile.

“Bobby let slip that he made spaghetti and meatballs and we have some news for you guys.” Buck said with a smile as they sat at the table.

“What news?” Hen asked and Buck and Eddie shared a smile. Buck then handed the ultrasound to Bobby.

“I’m pregnant.” Buck announced with a big smile on his face.

They were quiet for all of a second before they cheered. Bobby just stared at the ultrasound in shock.

“Twins? Really? You guys are expecting twins?” Bobby asked. They crew went quiet again as Bobby turned the picture around the show them.

“Identical twins?” Hen breathed quietly.

“Yeah, that was what we felt when we found out.” Eddie said with a small smile.

“When are you due?” she asked taking the picture gently.

“July 4th but more then likely they’ll be born early, most twins are.” Buck said.

“Oh, I can’t wait, they’ll be beautiful, especially with the both of you as parents.” Hen said with a smile.

“Thanks, Hen.” Eddie said with a smile.

“I say we do a bet.” Chim said with a wide grin. Buck and Eddie turned and faced him.

“On what?” Buck asked slowly. Glaring slightly at him.

“The weight and gender. Whoever wins gets to hold them first after you guys of course.” Chim said.

“No money involved, right?” Eddie asked.

“No, just want to see who wins and hold them first.”

“So, how are you going to tell them apart once they’re born?” Jackson asked.

“Maybe designated a color for each one once we know the gender.” Buck said.

“Have you told Maddie yet?” Chim asked.

“Not yet. She’s the next one, maybe have her, Abuela and Pepa over for dinner.” Buck said.

“That’s a good idea. I’ll call Abuela and Pepa.” Eddie said.

“And what about your parents?” Bobby asked. Dread filled Buck, he didn’t really want to tell his parents. His parents don’t even know about the prosthetic leg.

“I don’t talk to my parents, haven’t talked to them in almost a decade. They don’t even know about my leg.” Buck said.

“Seriously? They don’t know about the SEAL’s either?” Eddie asked.

“No, I never told anyone, you’re the first people that I’ve told.” He said.

“I’m happy that you felt comfortable enough to share it with us. We will always be in your corner.” Hen said bringing Buck in for a hug.

“Thanks, Hen. I appreciate it.” Buck said into her neck, tears pricking at his eyes.

“We can always FaceTime my parents next week. They loved you when they met you at my graduation ceremony.” Eddie said rubbing his back,

“Do you think they’ll be excited?” Buck asked.

“Very.”

“What about you, Chris, are you excited?” Chim asked.

“Very! I can’t believe it, I’m so excited.” Chris said bouncing in his seat. “Dad said I could help when they get here, I can’t wait.”

“You’ll be the biggest help, Chris.” Eddie said.

They got to finish lunch without the alarm going off. It felt nice to have more people in their corner and Buck couldn’t wait to have Maddie, Abuela and Pepa over so they could tell them.

Chapter Text

That night, Buck was twirling around the kitchen. He was making a simple meat but without help and carrying twins he seemed to be working harder. He was excited to tell them that they were having twins.

“You want some help?” Eddie asked coming up behind Buck and wrapping his arms around him, hands resting on the swell of his belly.

“No, you touch anything and I’m forcing you on the couch tonight.” Eddie looked at him with an alarmed look on his face.

“You don’t mean that, right?” he asked worriedly. Buck looked at him with a smile on his face.

“Of course not, I’m just teasing you, Eds.” Buck said with a smile. Eddie smiled and kissed his cheek.

“Good, I don’t think I can handle a night on the couch.” Buck laughed and turned to stir the sauce for the spaghetti.

There was a knock on the door and Eddie went to answer. Abuela and Pepa walked in followed by Maddie. The three women hugged the two of them as Maddie helped Chris set the table.

“So, what’s this all about?” Maddie asked as they sat down to eat.

“Well, we have a little surprise for you guys.” Buck said with a smile on his face. Maddie had wide eyes and a smile on her face.

“Is this a good surprise?” Abuela asked with a smile.

“We think so; mijo, want to show them?” Eddie asked turning to Chris. Chris then picked up the sonogram that was sitting face down.

The shocked look on the three women faces brought smiles to the three boys. Chris passed it to Maddie, who had tears in her eyes as she looked at the picture.

“Twins? You guys are having twins?” she asked with tears streaming down her face.

“Nieto, is this true? Are you and Evan having twins?” Abuela asked. She had a big smile on her face as they took in the ultrasound.

“Oh, this is exciting! Have you told your parents yet?” Pepa asked.

“No, not yet. We plan on telling them soon.” Eddie said then Abuela and Pepa turned to look at Buck.

“I don’t know. I haven’t really talked to my parents in a long time.” Buck asked.

“I know that they weren’t the greatest, but they would want to know, Evan.” Maddie said.

“I know that they would probably want to know but I think I should do it on my own terms.” Buck said.

“If that’s what you want then it should be on your own terms.” Abuela said with a smile.

“Thank you, Abuela.” He said with a smile.

“Are your parents really that bad?” Pepa asked.

“They never really cared about me, the only time they really paid attention to me was when I got hurt.” Buck said with a shrug.

“Maddie, is this true?” Abuela asked kind of shocked.

“Unfortunately.” Maddie said. “They were always like that.”

“I’m so sorry, I can’t believe your parents were like that.” Abuela said sadly.

“It’s okay, I’ve gotten used to it.” Buck said shrugging his shoulders.

Pepa then looked back down at the ultrasound with a look of concentration. She then looked back at the two of them.

“So, what are the two of you going to have for the twins theme?” she asked.

“I’m not sure yet? We don’t know the gender yet.” Buck said.

“Are you gonna find out the gender?” Abuela asked.

“Yeah, I think a simple gender reveal would be nice.” Eddie said.

“If that’s what you want then we’ll make it a fun get together.” Maddie said.

“I’m sure we will plan a great party.” Pepa said excitedly.

“We’ll let you know.” Buck said with a smile.

They finished up dinner and they cleaned up. Once Chris was in bed Buck and Eddie were relaxing on the couch. Eddie had pulled out his phone and looked at Buck with a questioning look. He nodded and Eddie pulled up his parents contact information.

“You sure you want to do this?” Buck asked.

“Better do it now so they don’t hear it from someone else.” Eddie said pressing the call button.

“Eddie, mijo, is everything okay? You never call this late.” His mom asked picked up the call. She had a concerned look on her face.

“Well, Mom, we have news for you.” Eddie said. His dad then popped on the screen with a curious look on his face as well.

“What news, mijo?” his dad asked.

“Buck’s pregnant. With twins.” Eddie announced with a wide smile on his face. His parents had a stunned look on their faces for a second before they broke into wide smiles.

“Really twins?” his mom asked.

“Seriously, we were shocked too.” Buck said.

“How are you feeling, Buck?” she asked.

“I’m feeling pretty good. Just a bit nauseous.”

“That’s very good. I can’t wait to tell yours sisters.” His mom said excitedly.

“We haven’t told them yet, Mom, Papi.” Eddie said.

“Well, get to it, we need to plan the shower.”

“Okay, we’ll call them tomorrow morning.” Eddie said.

“Okay, do you promise?”

“We promised, Mom. You guys have a good night. Love you.”

“Love you too. Good night you two. Oh, this is so exciting. Two new grandbabies.” His mom gushed as they hung up the call.

They hung up and Buck cuddled up next to Eddie. Eddie pressed a kiss to his birthmark and Buck sighed happily.

“I can’t wait until we can feel them moving.” Eddie said rubbing the small bump now a bit noticeable.

“Me neither, they are gonna be hell on my bladder.” Buck said with a laugh. Then he stood and stretched and turned back to Eddie. “You coming to bed?”

“Yeah, it’s been a big day.”

Buck smiled and they headed off to bed. Eddie never stopped touching Buck’s stomach now that he was showing now, and Buck loved it. They were both amazed that there were two little lives growing on the inside now. Wrapping Buck in his arms was the best feeling and Eddie was able to fall straight to sleep.

Chapter 8

The next morning found Buck in front of the toilet, throwing up the rest of last night’s dinner. Once finished he leaned his forehead against the cool porcelain and sighed. Buck then jumped a bit when he felt a hand on his back.

“How’d you get in here, baby?”  Eddie asked as he handed Buck a glass of water.

“The crutch.” He pointed out the crutch near the bathtub.

“Wake me next time, Ev. Promise me.”

“I promise.” Buck spit into the toilet again. “God, I thought morning sickness was supposed to stop by now.”

“Every pregnancy is different.” Eddie said soothingly.

“I know.” He said leaning back into Eddie’s touch.

There was a click of Chris’ crutches came down the hall towards the bathroom. The two looked at the door and Chris had a concerned look on his face.

“Bucky, are you okay? Are the babies okay?” Chris asked. Buck motioned for Chris to come closer and he did, gingerly sitting on Buck’s lap.

“I’m fine superman. Sometimes pregnancy will make the person carrying the baby sick. And since there are two sometimes, they’ll make me real sick.”

“Are you okay now though?” he asked. His brown eyes boring into Buck’s blue eyes.

“Yeah, I am, Chris.” Buck told him gently, kissing his temple.

Chris nodded and hugged Buck again. He then looked back and smiled widely.

“Can we have pancakes for breakfast?” he asked.

“Of course, mijo. Let’s get out of this bathroom and get breakfast going. How does that sound?” Eddie asked. Chris nodded enthusiastically and left the room leaving the two there. Eddie then stood and held his hand out for Buck to help him stand.

Once up Eddie helped Buck down the hall towards their bedroom so they could get Buck’s prosthetic on. Once on, they headed towards the kitchen to get started on breakfast.

“So, should we call my sisters after we eat?” Eddie asked as Buck and Chris got started on breakfast.

“Yeah.” Buck said glancing up at him for a minute. “That sounds like a good idea. You think they’ll be thrilled?”

“I sure hope so.” He said nervously moving a hand through his hair.

“They will, Eds.” Buck said reassuringly.

“Yeah, Dad. Tia’s Adriana and Sophia will definitely be excited.” Chris said with a big smile then he turned towards Buck. “What about your parents Bucky? Tia Maddie is excited.”

“I don’t know if I want to tell them. They aren’t like you Grandparents or even Athena and Bobby.” He explained.

“Were they mean?”

“Yeah, Superman. They were. That’s why I’m not sure if I want to tell them.” Chris then wrapped his arms around Buck’s waist, resting his head on his small bump.

“They won’t hurt you anymore, Bucky.” Chris said which brought tears to Buck’s eyes.

“Thanks, Superman.” Buck said teary eyed, pressing a kiss to his wild morning curls. “Now, let’s finish this so we can eat.”

Chris nodded wildly and the two finished up while Eddie made cups, one decaf for Buck, of coffee for the two of them. Buck smiled thankfully as they all sat down to eat. After breakfast Buck set up his laptop to call Adriana and Sophia.

“You ready for this, babe?” Buck asked.

“Yeah, let’s do this.” Eddie said as he clicked on both of his sister’s names. It didn’t take long before Adriana and Sophia answered with bright smiles on their faces.

“Eddie! Buck! Christopher! You’ve gotten so big! I thought we talked about you not growing up.” Sophia said with a bright smile.

“Sorry Tia, I can’t help it.” Chris said with a laugh.

“So, why are you guys called? Not that I don’t mind the call.” Adriana asked.

“Well, we have some news for you guys.” Eddie said. That statement had the two women on the edge of their seats.

“Well, what is it?” Adriana asked practically bouncing in her seat. Buck nodded to Chris who then held up the sonogram of the twins.

“Is that what I think it is?” Sophia asked.

“Are you guys pregnant? With twins?” Adriana asked excitement filled on her face.

“We are.” Buck said standing back to show them the small bump.

“Oh my God! How far along are you?” Sophia asked.

“Just about 10 weeks.” He said with a smile.

“His doctor said that most men who carry twins will carry to term.” Eddie informed his sisters while smiling up at Buck.

“Oh, this is so exciting!” Adriana exclaimed.

“I hope it’s two little girls.” Sophia squealed. “When are you due?”

“July 4th.” Buck said sitting down and with a smile on his face.

“We’ll make sure that we’ll be there for that.” Adriana promised.

“We’ll look forward to you guys being there.” Eddie said.

“We’ll start planning the shower now. Will you guys be planning to finding out the genders?” Sophia asked.

“Yeah, we’ll be finding out the genders here soon.” Buck said.

“Good, I can’t wait. Just keep us updated.” Adriana said.

“Of course. You guys stay safe.” Eddie told them with a smile.

“Te amo, mi hermano. You guys stay safe as well.” Sophia said blowing them a kiss.

“We will, love you guys too.” Eddie’s sisters waved and the camera turned off leaving the three feeling better and happier than earlier.

“So, when do you want to tell your parents?” Eddie asked turning to Buck after Chris went off to play.

“I don’t know. Probably before the twins are born.” Buck said running a hand through his hair.

“All right, if you’re sure. I’ll follow your lead on this.” Eddie told him pressing his lips on Buck’s for a chaste kiss.

“Thank you, Eds.” He whispered.

“No need to thank me, cariño. We promised to have each other’s backs. I will always have your back, mi amor.”

“Keep talking like that and I won’t be able to control myself, Eds.” Buck said with a smile as they laughed in the kitchen. The couple feeling a bit lighter than before the call to Eddie’s sisters.

Chapter 9

Buck was now 16 weeks along and he already felt huge. He and Eddie were at his next ultrasound appointment. They were doing the anatomy scan and hopefully they’ll be able to see the gender of their twins.

The twins, they already knew were identical so if they could see one’s gender they’ll know the other’s. That’s also when they’ll know what type of twins they’ll be expecting. Buck was laying on the bed with Eddie next to him as their eyes were fixed on the screen.

“So from the looks of it you’re expecting Diamniotic-monochorionic Twins. Which means they’re in separate amniotic sacks but share a placenta. It happens 4 out of every 1000 twin pregnancies. Do you see here, they’re in separate sacks but there is only one placenta.” The technician said as she pointed out the placenta on the screen. “Do you guys want to know the gender?”

“Wow, and yes, we’re gonna surprise our family with it.” Buck said with an awe look on his face as he stared at the screen.

“I love it, any idea how you’re gonna do it yet?” she asked as she measured one twin’s heart.

“No idea, but nothing explosive.” Eddie said.

“Yeah, as firefighters we know how bad they can turn.” They laughed.

“Well, whatever you do, whatever your planning you’ll need it in pink.” The technician said with a smile.

“Really? Girls? Are you sure?” Buck asked as shock and awe filled his voice.

“I’m one hundred percent sure. You two have very healthy twin girls on their way.” She said.

“Ay dios mío! Girls! I can’t believe this! Eddie said with a huge smile as they gazed at the image of the girls on the screen.

“Now, you do know that you’ll have to have a c-section, right? HWS carriers, while have the ability to carry children don’t have the ability to birth said children.”

“I know. I figured that would be the only way. I’m just enjoying this while I can.”

“Good, we’re still far from delivering. Just wanted to touch base.” She cleaned the gel from his abdomen then printed out several pictures for them. “These are for you. Have an awesome rest of your day and we’ll see you back here for you next appointment.” The technician left the room leaving the two of them alone.

“Marry me, Evan. Today or soon.” Eddie breathed as Buck was pulling his pants back up. Buck paused as he was buttoning them up and turned to look at Eddie.

“Eds, are you serious?” Buck breathed as happy tears started filling his eyes.

“I’m totally serious. Let’s get married before the babies are born.” Eddie said giving him a sweet but chaste kiss.

“Let’s do it, on our next day off. We need time to get things and everyone will kill us if we get married without everybody there.”

“You’re right. How are you right?” Eddie said with a breathy laugh.

“Because where I’m usually impulsive, we can’t with this decision. Our family and friends will literally kill us.” Eddie laughed as they walked out of the exam room to head back home.

“So, any idea how we’re gonna reveal that they’re girls to our family?”

“I was thinking something to do with the hoses. Put a bit of dye or glitter and have the crew shoot them off or something.” Buck told him.

“I love it, mi amor. Let’s make it happen.” Eddie said kissing his knuckles as they settled in his truck.

They stopped at a Hobby Lobby and got the stuff needed. Buck pulled out his phone and sent several messages to Bobby, Tía, Abuela, Maddie, Karen and Carla.

Buck didn’t really tell Bobby what they were doing but knowing their captain a whole party will be planned in a matter of hours.

“I think Bobby knows what’s up.” Buck said with a chuckle.

“Good, it’ll make things so much easier for everything we want to do.”

“We’ll time it for end of shift, do the reveal and reconvene at Bobby and Athena’s for a party.”

“That’ll be the best thing so we aren’t tying up the station.”

Thankfully the rest of the day went by fast and by the time that they knew their crew would be getting off they were at the station. Eddie got to work getting a hose and getting it set up while Buck went up to greet their family.

“Buckaroo!” Hen greeted with a smile as she came over to hug him.

“So, are you gonna tell us what’s going on and why we’re offline?” Bobby asked.

“Well, we are still waiting on a few people but we wanted to do the gender reveal together. Then we’ll do a party at Bobby and Athena’s. We’ve already talked to Athena about it.” Buck said.

“Of course, you did.” Bobby said fondly with a big smile.

“Do I want to know what Eddie is doing with the hose?” Chim asked peering over the railing.

“We’re using it for the reveal.” Buck said mysteriously.

“So, when are we getting this show on the road?” Hen asked.

“As soon as everyone gets here.”

“Which is now. All right guys, can everyone come down here?” Eddie called from the bay.

Buck smiled as they went down and just outside the bay door to where Eddie set up the hose.

“Is this what I think it is?” Maddie asked stopping next to Chim as he wrapped an arm around her waist.

“I don’t know. What do you think it is?” Buck asked.

“I think we’re about to know the gender/genders of the babies.” Maddie said as she practically bounced in place.

“We are!” Buck and Eddie said with a smile.

“So, how are we doing this?” Athena asked.

“We’ve filled… well I’ve filled the hose with dye. Once it’s turned on we’ll all know.” Eddie said.

“One hose? Are the twins identical?” Hen asked.

“Yep, now let’s get this show on the road.” Buck said.

“Buck! Can we turn the hose on?” Chris asked as Harry and Denny flanked him.

“As long as your moms say it’s okay; Harry, Denny.” Eddie said.

“Maybe as long as Chim helps you as well.” Karen said.

“I’m down with that.” Chim said kneeling down by the hose as Athena nodded and the boys surrounded the hose.

Chim showed Chris how to turn on the hose. On the count of three the hose was turned on and out came a shower of pink water. Their family erupted into cheers as Buck and Eddie was squeezed by everyone, excited for the two little girls about to join their family.

*20 Weeks*

At 20 weeks Buck was no longer allowed to go out into the field and is now the man behind. It was nearing summer time and he was already miserable. The heat combined with the weight of the babies made it so he didn’t want to move around.

Buck was sitting in the loft of the firehouse when the crew came back after dealing with a train derailment. Eddie had went straight to the showers as Hen made her way up the stairs.

“Hey Buckaroo,” Hen greeted him as she sat on the table in front of him.

“Hen, what happened? Did someone get hurt?” Buck asked sitting up as much as he could given his huge belly.

“Not really in the manner that you’re thinking of. Abby was on the train.” Buck’s eyes widened at the news.

“Abby? Really? After all this time?” Buck asked in shock as he looked at Hen. “Was she hurt?”

“Not seriously but her fiancé was.”

“Fiancé?

“Yeah, that was my expression as well. Just wanted to let you know because I hinted that she should talk to you about everything that happened.”

“I appreciate the head’s up, Hen.”

“Don’t mention it, Buckaroo. I didn’t want you to get blindsided if she show’s up here.” Buck nodded as Hen hugged him as Eddie came up the stairs.

“Eds? Is everything okay?” Buck asked as Eddie sat down next to him.

“It will be. Just a long call is all. Met someone unexpected too.”

“Yeah, I heard.”

“Will you talk with her if she shows up?” Eddie asked.

“I don’t know, maybe, probably. It’ll be nice to get some answers, ya know.” Buck told him as he grabbed Eddie’s hand and placed it on the swell to feel the babies kick. That seemed to do the trick as Eddie relaxed a bit.

“I get it cariño. Can I be there with you? I’m sure it’ll be a tough conversation.” Eddie asked him and Buck smiled and kissed the corner of his mouth.

“Nothing I’d want more, Eds.” Eddie nodded and leaned back on the couch to relax. That is until Buck received a text. The two shared a look before Buck opened the message.

Abby: Hey Buck, I know it’s been a while but I was hoping we can meet and talk.

“Her number is still saved?” Eddie asked.

“Uh, yeah. I totally forgot that it was still saved.” Eddie nodded as they looked at the message on the screen.

“Are you going to answer her?”

“Oh, yeah.”

Buck: I guess we can. At the park near the station Saturday at 11?

“Before May’s graduation?” Eddie asked shocked a bit.

“Yeah, to give us an excuse to get out there if needed.”

“Good idea.” Eddie smiled as another message came in.

Abby: Sounds good. I’ll meet you there.

Buck put the phone down and cuddled into Eddie’s side, bringing his feet up. Eddie pressed a kiss to Buck’s head and wrapped his arm around him as they cuddled.

*Saturday*

Saturday came by too fast for either of their liking. They got ready and headed to the park at 10:15. They left early because LA traffic was horrible. Chris and Eddie headed to the playground as Buck sat on a bench to watch them with a warm smile.

“Hey, Buck.” Said a voice he hadn’t heard in two years.

“Hi, Abby. Come sit.” Buck said as her eyes bulged wide at his stomach.

“Thank you for agreeing to meet with me. I understand now why you weren’t at the train derailment.” She smiled.

“Yeah, 20 weeks with twins doesn’t really equal safe to be out on calls.” Buck smiled.

“Oh wow. Twins that’s crazy. I’m glad you’re doing good.”

“Thank you.” They fell into an uncomfortable silence for a minute before Buck turned back to Abby. “When did you know?” she gave him a confused look.

“When did I know what?”

“When did you know you were leaving me for good? Was it Dublin, Morocco or was it when I kissed you goodbye and promising to wait for you at the airport?”

“I honestly thought I would come back, but the longer I was away the harder it was to come back. It was also around the same time that I met Sam.”

“Sam?”

“My fiancé that your team saved last night.” Abby said with a small smile. “I met him in Morocco.”

“I see. You should’ve just told me that I shouldn’t bother waiting. Cause I did. I waited until just after Halloween. But I met my fiancé not long after you left. I knew him from my time in the military.”

“I know, I know I should of but I didn’t know what to tell you. But I’m happy for you.” She told him as he looked away towards the playground to see Eddie and Chris were playing.

Eddie was giving him a concerned look but with a slight shake of Buck’s head Eddie nodded and went back to pushing Chris on the swing. Abby followed his gaze and spotted Chris and Eddie.

“You’ve certainly have done well for yourself. I should let you go. I need to get back to the hospital to be with Sam. You take care, Buck.” Abby said standing up and walking away from him again.

Eddie and Chris made their way to where he was sitting shortly after Abby left. Chris, with all smiles, gave Buck a big hug and laughed after his sisters kicked him.

“Everything go okay, cariño?” Eddie asked as he helped Buck to his feet.

“It will be. I didn’t get the answers I was hoping for but that’s okay. I’ve got everything I need.” Buck told him as he wrapped an arm around Eddie’s waist as they headed back to their car.

“Good, I’m glad. Let’s get to Bobby and Athena’s before they send out as search party.” Buck laughed as Chris called from ahead of them.

“Dad, Buck! Hurry up!” he called as he made it to the truck.

“Coming, mijo!” Eddie called with a laugh.

They made it to Bobby and Athena’s and everyone was already there. Almost as soon as they made it downstairs Buck was handed a water and forced into a seat. Maddie had sat next to him and Buck could tell that something was off about his older sister.

“Mads, is everything okay?” he asked her and she just smiled at him.

“Yeah, found out some pretty shocking news this morning.” Buck just gave her a look before she leaned forward to whisper into his ear. “I took a pregnancy test this morning. It was positive.” Buck beamed and hugged her as best as he could.

“That amazing! You and Chim are going to be amazing parents.”

Buck kissed her cheek as Eddie came over. He raised an eyebrow but Buck gently shook his head with a promise to explain later. He pulled Buck up and over so they could take some pictures and just finish the rest of the day happy with their chosen family.

Chapter 11

Notes:

Thank you for being patient. A lot has been going on in my life. After my miscarriage, a few months late I got pregnant again and now I have a almost 11 month old boy. So my life is a little crazy right now. I appreciate all the support.

Chapter Text

The summer started and what nobody expected was a nationwide lockdown to happen. A pandemic took over the world leaving Buck having to use his leave early. Apparently because he’s having twins and closing in on his due date, Bobby, Buck and the chief and a member of HR had a meeting, a video conference anyway. And it was decided that he would do paper work from home.

The only plus with this was that Buck was home so when Carla had to stop her services, since her dad was sick, there was someone at home. Plus, Chris school was all online now, so it worked. But Buck felt bad, he was supposed to have Eddie’s back out in the field.

Buck was busy though, helping Chris with his school work, doing all the paperwork for the station, on top of growing twins. With Buck and Maddie pregnant at the same time it was hectic.

The morning found Buck in the kitchen cooking breakfast. Arms wrapped around his belly to feel the baby girls kicking away. Eddie’s lips pressed kisses to his neck.

“Hmm, good morning, Eds.” Buck said.

“Morning, Ev, you weren’t in bed when I woke up. The bed was cold and lonely.” Eddie muttered.

“Sorry Eds,” Buck chuckled. “The girls woke me up. Then I decided to get started on some breakfast.

“That’s fine. What’s on the menu this morning?”

“French toast, hashbrowns, bacon and scramble eggs.”

“Yum, sounds delicious. Is Chris up yet?”

“Not that I’ve heard. You want to go get him up so we can eat?” Buck asked.

“On it, cariño.” He said pressing a kiss to Buck’s cheek.

Eddie walked out of the kitchen towards Chris’ room. That left Buck to his thoughts, mostly baby names. He wasn’t sure what he wanted for the girls but he wanted something that went well together.

By the time he had breakfast on the table, Eddie and Chris had made their way to the table. Buck smiled and they all started eating.

“Right, so I thought we should start thinking of names for the girls.” Buck told him.

“I agree. I’ve been skimming through some names.” Eddie said.

“Can I help too?” Chris asked.

“Of course you can.” Eddie told him.

“How about this, by the end of the week we all will come up with a list of twin girl names.” Buck said.

“Okay! But how will we decide?” Chris asked.

“I think once we see the list of names, if there are names in common on the lists then we’ll see if that will be your sister’s names.” Buck decided.

“That seems like a smart way to come up with their names.” Eddie said smiling at his boys.

“Right, so, Superman, after your online classes today you can make a list and when your dad is off we can go through some names.”

“Sounds good.”

“All right guys, I gotta get going. Love you guys.” Eddie said gulping down the rest of his coffee.

“You better stay safe, Diaz.” Buck said after Eddie pressed a kiss to his temple.

“You know I will.” Eddie said with a smile as he made his way to the truck, grabbing his duffel bag on the way.

*With Eddie*

Since the start of this whole lockdown the traffic getting to work and been lighter and it had been faster. His mind went to possible baby names. He already had a couple names he liked.

Walking into the station without Buck at his side was wrong but they all thought it was for the best. COVID was unpredictable especially with Buck and Chris.

“How’s it going?” Hen asked walking up beside Eddie.

“It’s going, Hen.”

“How’s Buck doing?”

“About as well as you can expect. He gave us homework, come up with a list of names that we can pick a couple of names from.”

“Ooohhh, can we help?” she asked.

“I don’t see why not. We’re trying to pick first names then middle names.”

“That sounds like a good idea.”

“What sounds like a good idea?” Chim asked as he walked up from behind them.

“Picking first names first then the middle names.” Eddie told him.

“You can Buck are already coming up with names?” he asked.

“Well, yeah. He’s 33 weeks, it’s something we should have done before now. His due date is right around the corner but with twins it could be any day now.”

“That’s true. Maddie and I haven’t even started yet.”

“You guys have plenty of time though. We don’t.” Eddie said as he sat down to look at some names on his phone.

Eddie was left pretty much alone as he wrote down a list of names he thought were nice. He thought it would be nice to have Isabel as a middle name for one of them.

“You guys doing, okay?” Hen asked sitting down across from Eddie at the table.

“As okay as we can be given the circumstances. Buck is going stir crazy. I think he finally got the registry done.”

“Finally, Karen and I have been chomping at the bit. We can’t exactly have a normal shower right now. Send me the link.”

“I should warn you; he’s got multiple. Don’t know why.”

“I think he would like that. He’s already stressing that his chosen people won’t be allowed in the delivery room.”

“I think that’s perfectly reasonable reason to be stressing about given the pandemic. Do you guys have anything for the girls, yet?”

“We have a couple bassinets, some clothes, a few boxes of diapers, wipes and two car seats.”

“You guys got a good start. So, more diapers, bath stuff, bottles, pacifiers, receiving blankets, swaddles and a baby kit.”

“Baby kit?”

“Yeah, it has nail clippers, brush, comb, thermometer, and a couple of other things.”

“Right, that’ll be good to have.”

“Another thing, Eddie,”

“Yeah, Hen?”

“Do you know if Buck is producing milk?”

“We’re not sure yet. His nipples have been sore but nothing has come out yet.”

“What does the doctor say?”

“Give it time or get a pump and start.”

“Then I’d start there and we’ll get some formula just in case.”

“Good idea.”

“What are you two up too?” Chim asked walking up to them.

“Talking about baby stuff.” Hen told him as Chim down with three cups of coffee. He gave them each one and took a sip of his.

“Yeah, any ideas of name?” Chim asked.

“Yeah, I know I want one of their middle names to be Isabel, after my abuela. Buck can pick the other middle name.”

“That’s so sweet. But also, a very good idea. My mom passed when I was 15. I think I’ll bring it up to Maddie when we find out the gender.”

“I think Maddie would agree.”

The bell went off and they all ran towards their gear and into the engine and headed off to what sounded like another lockdown hobby gone awry.

They made it to the address only for the wife/girlfriend to come running up to them from the backyard. They masked up and jumped out of the engine.

“You’ve got to help my husband. He was trying to build a clubhouse for the kids but the nail gun went off as he was grabbing it and it embedded into his chest.”

“Don’t worry ma’am, we got him. Are you kids inside? Do you need to call someone for the kids?” Bobby asked.

“Right, yes, let me do that.” She said pulling out her phone as Hen and Chim went to stabilize and transport the husband.

Pretty soon they were loading up the patient and Hen and Chim were transporting him to the hospital. Eddie, Bobby and the rest of the crew were headed back to the station.

“So, you and Buck are trying to come up with names?” Bobby asked.

“Yeah, I think we left it a little too late.” Eddie told him.

“No such thing. I have faith that you guys will pick the best name for those girls.”

“I hope so.”

“Any luck?”

“I kinda like Chloe and Zoe or Alexandra and Victoria. I do know that one of them I want Isabelle as a middle name.”

“For your Abuela?”

“Yeah, but I want Buck to pick the other middle name.”

“Good idea.” They pulled into the station and Eddie pulled out his phone to call Buck.

“Missing me already?” Buck asked answering the video call right away.

“Always, cariño. I wanted to talk to you about middle names.”

“Right, I was contemplating something like Madison or Athena.” Buck told him.

“Well, I want Isabel for one of them.”

“Yes, I like that, plus I’m sure when we tell Abuela she’ll start crying.”

“Oh, definitely. How are you feeling?”

“Tired, the girls have been bouncing on my bladder all day.”

“I’m sorry mi amor, I wish I could help.”

“You’re doing all you can.” Buck assured him. “Have you picked some names?”

“I have, but wait until I get home, so we can choose the names.”

“Oh, all right.” Buck looked a little crestfallen.

“Oh, Ev, it’s all going to be okay. With any luck we’ll have the girl’s names picked by tonight.”

“That’ll be a load off my mind. It just feels like we’re running out of time.”

“I know it does, cariño, but we still have some time.” The alarm blared and Eddie sighed. “Got to go, Ev. I’ll see you tonight.”

“Love you, be safe.”

It was later that night after Eddie got home and showered, that they went over the names.

“All right, who wants to start?” Buck asked.

“Ooh, can I?” Chris asked.

“Go for it, mijo.” Eddie told him.

“So, I picked Luna and Aurora or Shiloh and Willow.”

“I like the space and tree theme. Eddie?”

“Chloe and Zoe or Alexandra and Victoria.”

“Oooh, I like those. I picked Sage and Jade or Rose and Lily.”

“I think we have a pretty good list.” Eddie said.

“We do, I like them all. How do we pick?” Buck asked.

“Draw from a hat?” Chris suggested.

“Yeah, we could do that. It’ll be easier, plus we like them all.”

“Right, let’s do it.”

Chris wrote down all the names and they put them in a bowl. Buck mixed around the names before pulling a piece of paper from the bowl.
