Chapter 1: Moving on

Chapter Text

Lexa sighed as she walked into the messy hallway, didn’t she tell the kids to clean after themselves? She pushed their shoes away and hanged up her coat, at least it smelled like Lindsay was cooking dinner.
”HELLO” She yelled through the huge house, the kids rooms was placed downstairs and they wouldn’t hear her otherwise.
”MOM!” Lucy’s voice echoed and she could hear her little feet running towards her.
”Hey sweetie” Lexa smiled and picked her daughter up. ”I missed you” She smiled as she placed a soft kiss on her blonde hair.
”We’re getting pancakes today” Lucy smiled.
”Was that your idea?” Lexa chuckled as she carried her daughter towards the kitchen where Lindsay was stressfully cooking.
”Hi babe” Lexa looked at her and the brunette turned around.
”Oh god, please help me” Lindsay begged. ”How do people manage to make pancakes?”
”Alright” Lexa placed her daughter on the floor again and walked over to the stove. ”It’s to hot” She laughed. ”That’s why they burn”
”Why do you know everything?” Lindsay sighed and sat down at the kitchen table, relieved that her girlfriend took over the cooking.
”LEROY” Lexa yelled loud with no reply. ”LEROY COME HERE” She raised her voice and she finally heard her son walking into the kitchen.
”What?” He seemed annoyed.
”I haven’t seen you all week, can I at least get a hug?” She looked at him and he walked up to her to wrap his little arms around her waist. ”I missed you kiddo”
”So why did you work so late?” He wondered.
”Mom had too” Lexa replied. ”So…how was your week with mommie?”
”Good” Leroy sat down at the kitchen table as well.
”Good, that’s it?” Lexa flipped a perfect pancake.
”Mommie gave me a knew dress for tomorrow” Lucy smiled. ”It’s really pretty”
”That’s nice off her” Lexa thought Clarke was spoiling them to much, or was she trying to buy her kids love? They had plenty off toys and clothes.
”Is she coming tomorrow?” Lindsay wondered.
”She said she wouldn’t miss my first day at school” Lucy told her.
”Mother of the year” Lexa mumbled to herself. ”Who’s hungry?” She changed the subject, talking about her ex-wife wasn’t her favorite subject.

Dinner was rushed, she had to make sure the kids showered and had everything prepared for the first day back at school. Lucy was nervous, she was scared she would be bad at school or not getting any friends.

”You’re gonna do great tomorrow” Lexa was tucking her in.
”Mom?” Lucy looked at her with big eyes.
”Yes?” Lexa sat down at her little bed.
”Can I ask you something?”
”Anything” Lexa assured her.
”How come mommie has a boyfriend and you a girlfriend? I thought mommie liked girls” Lucy couldn’t wrap her head around it and Lexa swallowed. Wait? A boyfriend? When did this happen?
”Did you say a boyfriend?” Lexa had to make sure she heard it correctly.
”He was living with mommie this week…Josh, he has a brown beard” She giggled.
”Josh” Lexa bit her lip, her ex hadn’t been with anyone since their divorce and she couldn’t help but to be annoyed by it…and of course it was a dude.
”Doesn’t mom like girls?” Lucy asked again.
”Well…your mom likes both” Lexa explained. ”It doesn’t matter what gender it is”
”But you like girls only?”
”Yeah” Lexa smiled at her. ”So, this Josh…is he nice?”
”He’s funny and Leroy likes playing basket ball with him” Lucy told her and started talking about her week at her moms place. Lexa tried to be present but this new information bothered her more than she wanted it too.
Once Lucy fell asleep Lexa made sure Leroy was in bed too, he was three years older than his sister but she wanted to make sure he had enough sleep for his first day. The lights where out in his room so she figured it was a good sign - he often faked being asleep but this time she could hear his heavy breathing.

”Sleeping?” Lindsay wondered as Lexa walked two floors up to their bedroom. The third floor was designed by Clarke a few years ago, the stairs led to her old office with huge windows over their garden and outdoor pool. Lexa hadn’t made any changes except for taking their photos down - if she continued she reached a huge walk-in closet that didn’t have nearly as much clothes as before, it looked empty but she didn’t care - the door led to the bathroom and a few steps to the right led her to the bedroom. It wasn’t huge but bigger than necessary, her ex liked open areas and the balcony connected to it. Lexa used to wake up seeing her almost naked drinking her coffee out in the sun, she always seemed so happy out there.
”Clarke has a boyfriend” Lexa ignored her question and started to undress. ”Of course she meets a boy, it’s like she wants to annoy me”
”Maybe it was time for her to meet someone?” Lindsay tried. ”She’s been alone for almost two years”
”Or maybe she deserves to be alone” Lexa shrugged.
”I don’t get why you hate her so much”
”How about we talk about something else” Lexa knew she started the conversation but she regretted it already.
”How about we don’t talk at all?” Lindsay smirked at her.
”I just want to sleep” Lexa laid down and wrapped her arms around her. ”I need energy for tomorrow, Lucy is really nervous”
”She’s gonna do great” Lindsay assured her. ”She’s a good girl…about that…have you thought about what I said?”
”Not really…” Lexa admitted. ”I’m not sure if I’m ready for more kids…not right now at least”
”Promise you think about it?” Lindsay wanted her own kids and that was understandable, Lexa just wasn’t sure if she wanted more.
”I promise”

”MOM” Lucy reached her little hand out for Lexa to grab it.
”I’m here” Lexa grabbed her little hand, it was pretty unbelievable that she was already starting pre-school. Time really flew.
”Can I go meet my friends?” Leroy looked at his mom.
”Can’t you be here for you sisters, at least for a little bit?” Lexa wondered.
”Fine” Leroy nodded.
”Such a great brother” Lindsay smiled at him and they started to walk towards the school, it was a sunny day and the school yard was filled with stressed parents and nervous kids.
”Wheres mommie?” Lucy looked around and Lexa did the same.
”I don’t know” Lexa sighed, hoping Clarke wouldn’t be late.
”She’s over there with Josh” Leroy pointed towards the stairs. Clarke was wearing a tight dress with a bit too much cleavage in a high-heels. She was styled from top to bottom and everything looked perfect, like she spent hours on the outfit.
”Does she always have to look like she’s about to walk a runway” Lindsay rolled her eyes.
”MOMMIE” Lucy let go off Lexa’s hand and started to run towards her, Clarke noticed and rushed to meet her. Lexa studied Josh, he was a good-looking guy - pretty basic if you asked her but that wasn’t her choice.
”Wow, on time” Lexa locked eyes with her ex and Clarke rolled her eyes.
”Always a pleasure” She mumbled. ”Hi Leroy, why aren’t you with your friends?”
”Mom said I have to be here for Lucy” He complained.
”We got her now, you haven’t seen most of them all summer…go and say hi!” Clarke assured him.
”You’re the best mom” Leroy smiled big and rushed away immediately.
”Really?” Lexa crossed her arms as Clarke picked their daughter up.
”He doesn’t wanna be here, let him have fun with his friends” Clarke brushed it off.
”Hi by the way…I’m Josh” Clarke boyfriend reached his hand out and Lexa grabbed it.
”Hello…Lexa”
”I know, and you’re Lindsay I suppose?” He looked at her.
”Correct” She was polite.
”You look adorable in this dress” Clarke smiled at Lucy and ignored the awkward tension.
”Well…it seems like we need to separate” Lexa looked at the stairs filled up with people, it was not four seats available next to each other.
”Do I need to get on stage?” Lucy wondered.
”Yes, all the kids are going up there” Clarke explained.
”You need to sit close to the stage” Lucy got nervous.
”I can sit there with Josh” She tried.
”No with mom” Lucy pouted.
”But mom wants to sit with Lindsay baby” Clarke sighed and looked at her ex-wife for help.
”Go be there for your daughter and maybe we can get to know each other better” Josh looked at Lindsay.
”Okay…” Lexa swallowed and looked at Lindsay as she mouthed sorry.

”So…” Lexa studied her ex. ”You’re back too dick again?”
”Lower your voice?!” Clarke hushed her. ”Why are you so immature?”
”Just wondering, you could have given me a heads up”
”I don’t owe you shit anymore” Clarke crossed her arms.
”I hope he’s good with the kids”
”Yeah because Lindsay is so amazing isn't she?” Clarke scoffed.
”What’s that suppose to mean?”
”She doesn’t care about them, she wants her own”
”That’s not true, she’s great with them”
”Around you yes”
”How about you being more helpful, why do you always have to work against me with them?”
”I don’t?”
”So how you ignored what I asked Leroy just a moment ago? That wasn’t just you being a bitch about it?”
”God, why do you have to use that language?” Clarke sighed. ”Can’t believe I’m stuck with you here”
”You and me both” Lexa agreed.
”Ladies” Indra looked at them surprised.
”The principal, what an honor” Lexa smiled at her before standing up to give her old friend an hug.
”Stop it” Indra laughed and Clarke hugged her as well. ”I’m surprised to see you two together but then I heard you arguing like teenagers” Indra looked at them with a disappointed face. ”Can’t you at least try to get a long? You have two children together”
”That was what I was saying” Lexa sighed.
”Oh yeah? By calling me a bitch?”
”Girls” Indra stopped them. ”Enough”
”Fine” Lexa sat down again.
”Get your shit together, I care about your kids and they need both of you”
”Fine” Clarke sat down as well.
”Behave now, I need to go and have my speech” Indra warned them before walking away.
”I know we can agree that Lucy looks adorable” Clarke pointed towards their daughter who smiled at them.
”She does” Lexa waved at her with a big smile.
”We just have to pretend to be friendly now, can’t we do that?” Clarke looked at her ex and Lexa nodded.
”Yeah”
