Tomorrow Won't Arrive

Summary:

"Time is strange,
It's ever-flowing,
Never going back,
It moves,
But only in one way.

"Turn the page,
Look back at what you wrote.
Do you still feel the same?
I'll bet your mind has changed."

Chapter Text

Alexander Hamilton once again found himself at Death's hands. The Weehawken Duel between himself and Aaron Burr. How many times has he been through this? Possibly four, maybe five. Honestly, if he could, he would’ve lost count.

Alexander turned around to face Burr, and saw him fiddling with his pistol, his mouth formed into a thin line, looking like he wished to be anywhere but here. It quirked Alexander's interest, but before he could inquire into it further, their seconds announced it was time for the pacing.

Alexander and Burr faced back-to-back. As they each made the first step, Alexander could have sworn he heard Burr gave a sigh of disinterest. This never happened in his past loops - well, as far as he can remember anyway. That single sigh gave Alexander a sense of discomfort - but at the same time...maybe reassurance? Perhaps a mixture of both, although Alexander is leaning a bit more on discomfort.

Well, no matter. They were nearly on their tenth step anyway. Alexander and Burr both turned around and faced one another. With the pistols aiming at the other, he noticed quickly that the opposing pistol was not shaking violently near his abdomen like before, but lower to the ground near his waist. Burr's eyes were set on Alexander's pistol, more specifically near the trigger, biting his bottom lip as he held his gaze.

So many questions flittered around his mind like butterflies in a garden, the most notable was, Why is Burr different from before? This is giving him a major migraine. Alexander held his stare for a few more seconds before swiftly aiming towards the sky, pulling the trigger in the process. He heard two gunshots fired, and felt a sharp pain at his right waist.

Not too surprising, although the placement is a bit odd to the previous duels. Alexander internally sighed as he started losing consciousness. He needed a do-over anyways.

Notes:

This is my first fic on Ao3. I already have Chapter 2 posted on Wattpad, and Chapter 3 should be finished this afternoon (06/17/2021) :D

Feedback would be greatly appreciated!
