Chapter 1: Birth
Chapter Text
When her Baby was born, the news spread quickly.
„A Boy.“ The midwife had said grimly. As their gazes met, they both knew what was to come next.
„I will not give him up. He will grow up here, with us. I will not let my son be treated as an outcast. Killed.“
The midwife sighed. „The Hylians will come for him eventually. The walls of Gerudo Town can only keep the women safe. It‘s protection has never extended to... them.“
„He won‘t need Naboris protection. He will have mine.“
*********
He was fortunate to be born to such a strong mother. She was a renowned Fighter, one of the best. The chief of the Gerudo had already sensed that such a strong women would not birth an ordinary child. When she appeared before her, the boy swaddled in her arms she smiled.
„You will not give him up?“
„Never.“
„Soraf, what do you expect to happen if you keep the child?“
Soraf looked down at the boy, his ginger tuft of hair barely peeking out beneath the blanket.
„He is not like the others. I can feel it. He will not become evil. He will not let the darkness consume him.“
„You sound like you are trying to convince yourself.“ The Chief tilted her head and looked at the child.
„He could pose a threat to all of Hyrule. It would be easy to extinguish a flame as long as it is still small, but once it gets large... What are you willing to risk, for the safety of your kid?“
Soraf looked up. „Everything, chief.“
„You are playing a dangerous game. The Hylians will not agree, they will want the kid dead. They will come soon and take him from you.“
„He is different Chief.“ A short pause filled the air. They were caught in a stalemate, and both of them knew it. Violence was not a way either of them would take, not yet at the very least.
„I have decided to name him Link. He will not become Evil.“
The Chiefs face twisted in anger. „They will not allow you to tarnish the name of the hero like that. Even I think it is inappropriate, do not play games with the Demon, Soraf.“
„I am not playing games Urbosa, I know what I am doing. He will not become the Demon King; he will be a normal Gerudo. I will not let him.“ She drew in a shaky breath.
„And for that I need your help. When the Hylians come, you must tell them the rumours were wrong. Tell them there is no boy. That it was a girl, that it died soon after its birth and that the fast disappearance made people speculate. I will hide him until he is too old to be threatened. I will teach him our way. He will not become evil, I promise it with all my heart, I promise it on his life - please...“ Her voice broke and she averted her gaze, instead looking away.
„You are asking me to risk our alliance with the Hylians for a child, that could mean the destruction of the world.“ Urbosa deadpanned and sighed again, leaning back in her chair. „I respect your courage Soraf.“
A long pause ensued. Neither of them said anything, Soraf not daring to interrupt. The little boy was perfectly still, his shining blue eyes staring up at his mother, as if he sensed that something important was happening.
„I will lie to them. You will come out and pretend as well, we will make it believable. Give the boy to the midwife during that time.“
Soraf breathed a sigh of relief. „Thank you, Chief. I will never forget what you have done.“
„But Soraf-“ Urbosa shouted as the younger had already turned to leave the palace. „If suspicions arise... I will not care for the boy’s age. Hyrule means more to me than your son. If you raise him well, I understand that we will not have any problems... for now.“
Soraf nodded quickly and then hurried out the palace doors.
Chapter 2: Cowardice
Chapter Text
As he grew up, his mother never seemed to miss an opportunity to remind Link of who he was. He was the born Gerudo Male, destined to be corrupted by Demises Curse and to try and take over or destroy Hyrule. He was destined to unite the monsters for his cause and, ideally, be defeated by a hero coming out of nowhere and the princess herself.
He was taught to control his emotions and to learn his limits early on. He wore his hair long and the same clothes as the girls. For an outsider, he looked like any other gerudo child.
He had known for his whole life, that the Hylians were a threat to him. That they would try to kill him on sight if they knew who he was. Until recently, this had been a story, nothing more than a threat he did not need to worry about as long as he stayed within the walls of Gerudo Town, as long as he wore the clothes his mother told him to wear, as long as there were not too many Hylian Vais on visit.
Rumours had started to trickle out the older he had gotten, of a voe living within Gerudo Town. Some Vai specifically came to search for him, to find if the rumours were true. With his mother’s guidance, none had been successful. His mother had been happy with their lives, she had thought she had succeeded in breaking the curse on the gerudo, that he was going to be the one to end this cycle. Now, Link wasn‘t so sure anymore.
She had always taught him to contain his anger, to learn how to sense when it was overriding his other emotions. He knew that the anger he felt right now was stemming from the sadness and the guilt bubbling inside him. It had been a cruel act, an act of cowardice - The chief had said it herself. All of Gerudo Town was furious.
It had been the day of his fifteenth birthday, his mother had gone out into the desert for a reason she had refused to tell him. She had promised she would be back soon. She had not been lying.
Ten minutes after her departure, shouts had filled the plaza.
„Vengeance! We cannot accept this dishonour!“
„Down with the Hylian regiment!“
„This is an outrage! Where is the chief?“
Link had run into the plaza, wanting to find out what had happened. Dozens of Gerudo were standing within the Plaza. Two of them were holding a stretcher. Through the crowd he was able to make out a red tuft of hair lying on the stretcher, a distinct golden wreath carefully braided into it. Braids he had made this morning.
„No“ he had heard himself whisper before he stormed forward and fell to his knees next to the stretcher.
Lying on it was his mother, a deep wound in her stomach, her eyes staring unseeing into the sky.
The next few minutes were blurry in his memory. He remembers the body being taken away from him, remembers being too deep in shock to do anything, he doesn‘t remember how he got into the palace, doesn‘t remember what they said to him until Urbosa had seized him by the shoulders and shaken him back into reality.
Dead.
He could hear the word resonate within his head.
Dead.
„Link.“ Urbosa’s Voice was kind as she spoke. „Have you heard what we just said?“ after a brief second, he shook his head. Urbosa did not sigh, did not complain - she just let go of his shoulders and turned back towards her throne. After sitting back down, she stared deep into his eyes. Her gaze was uncomfortable, it felt like she could see right through him.
„The Kingdom of Hyrule has left a message for us.“ her voice was bitter, there was anger boiling underneath, but it was not directed at him.
„They are the ones that killed your mother. They believe the rumours of a male living in hiding within the town to be true and believed it to be her child. They have killed her to make a point, in an ambush that vastly outnumbered her. She took two of them down with her.“ She took a breath as if to calm herself.
„It was a cowardly act. They gave her no chance and asked now questions. It seemed more like a Yiga attack than anything King Rhoam would condole, but his Sigel is unmistakable“ She held a piece of paper into the air. A letter stained red at the edges, a broken seal of the royal family of Hyrule on the envelope.
„I believe they will do anything what they believe will keep Hyrule safe. But with this, they have made a powerful enemy. They have broken our alliance, killed one of ours on the basis of rumours. We cannot stand at their side any longer.“ Her eyes bore into his once again.
„The question is now, what will you do?“
„Me?“ The sound was much more pitiful than Link wanted it to sound. He saw Urbosa’s gaze soften.
„You know what your destiny is according to the legend. The Gerudo have usually fought alongside their king, alongside the male. Will you want to send us into a war against the Hylians we cannot win? We will defend what is left of our honor with our lives if we have to.“
A war? No, never. he thought. He contemplated his answer for a few seconds, then answered slowly, careful to choose the right words.
„The Gerudo will not fight a war against the Hylians. If they want to see me so desperately, then I will go. I will not endanger the other Gerudo anymore. You have protected me and risked your safety for far too long, and now that the alliance is broken, my true identity does not matter anymore.“ His face twisted into a snarl. „I will find whoever is at fault for this and I will punish them. What happens after is not my concern.“
„You may bring destruction onto this land, of which you can‘t even dream, Link. Your name is the name of the one destined to stop you. You will meet him, and he might kill you, or you might first kill many more before the hero will get his chance. You may bring incredible harm to Hyrule.“ More harm than you already have.
She didn‘t have to say it for both of them to understand. Link lifted his chin slightly. „Do you wish me dead? Then kill me. Promise to avenge what they have done and kill me here. Spare yourself the trouble.“ He spread his arms wide, staring at her, waiting. For a few seconds, they both contemplated each other. Her gaze was sharp as ice, he knew she did not like to be challenged. Suddenly, her mouth broke into a smirk.
„No. I will not kill you, Link.“ She sighed and got up, walking towards him. „Maybe your mother was right after all, maybe you are different. Go out, and show me what you‘ve got, little flower.“
Chapter 3: Bravery
Chapter Text
As he stood in front of the gate, he wondered whether he had made the wrong choice to come here. The scarf wrapped around his head to hide the fiery red hair was uncomfortably warm and he could feel sweat trickling down his back. He swallowed and his first step beyond the gate, towards the castle.
There is no turning back now.
As he stepped towards the large wooden frames, the guards in front of it began to shift. A hooded figure approaching probably didn‘t sit well with them, especially with the situation being so tense since the attack on the Gerudo.
„Halt! What business do you seek here?“ One of them shouted. Link stopped several feet away.
„I wish to speak to the king.“
The man laughed a joyless laugh.
„Dozens come here wanting that exact same thing. Go away and talk to the mayor, the king only concerns himself with pressing problems!“
Feeling the fury flow through his veins, he took a breath before pulling down his scarf to reveal his flaming red hair. He could see the guards visibly recoil, could see the shock running over their faces. He had cut his hair short, to make it more obvious. He had no time to waste.
„I wish to speak to the king.“ He repeated slowly and took a step towards the guards, his hand resting on the sword his mother had gifted him for his eleventh birthday.
*********
He was led through the halls swiftly, hushed whispers following his every step. He could feel their stares on his back, could see the way the guards walked just a little too fast for comfort. They are afraid, he realized with a start. Afraid of my revenge.
As he stepped into the throne room, he could hear many voices fall silent suddenly. The king was standing atop a balcony, looking down at the guard who had knelt down before him. Link stood a few paces behind the guard. The king appeared to be waiting for him to bow. He had long before made the decision that he would not. They had insulted his family, directly and cruelly. He would not bow to such people.
„What brings you here so suddenly, Gerudo? After we have feared your arrival for so long, after we went searching for over a decade, you just stand in front of my door like this. Do you wish to insult me?“
He almost laughed. „I am here because of the recent defilement of my family at your hands.“ A whisper went through the hall.
„Defilement? What do you speak of?“
He clenched his fists around his cloak, fighting the rage in his chest.
„The cowardice murder of my mother, right in front of our gates, your majesty:“
Another hushed whisper. The king appeared confused and as Link stared into the king’s eyes, he understood.
He did not know.
„What? My men would never kill a Gerudo Warrior. We have formed this alliance on trust.“
„She was killed. I saw her corpse and read your letter. Our chief was threatened to turn me over like a pretty vase or more Gerudo may die at the kingdoms hands.“
He pulled the letter from his pocket. With a swift movement of the Kings hand, a servant nervously hurried towards Link, stopping in front of him and eyeing the letter. Link did not move.
„Could- uhm.... could I maybe have that letter? The- the king wishes to read it... sir.“ The servant whispered. If the nobles in the room had heard they would have been outraged at the use of a formal title. He handed the letter to the servant.
The King read the paper carefully and as he did so, the room was unbearably quiet. Everyone seemed to have understood the possible consequences of a letter like this, of what could happen if Link spoke the truth.
The King had paled as he had read. After he had finished reading, he looked up and stared at Link for a few moments, before asking gravely: „Are you here to declare war between the Gerudo and the Hylians?“
„It depends.“ he lied. the tension in the room seemed tangible at this point.
„On my compliance?“
„On your actions.“ he retorted.
Silence.
„You wish vengeance.“
„You did not plan this assault.“ another of those surprised whispers, louder now. A military action without the king’s consent with this kind of consequences? Impossible!
„No. I have heard of this the first time from you.“ Except it was possible.
„Then who is at fault for my mother’s death.“ He could hear how cold his tone was. Deep breaths.
The king stayed silent for another few seconds. Then he said loudly: „Someone bring the guards captain and his advisor. Do not inform them of the circumstances.“
They waited in silence for the men to arrive. When the door opened again and the man that stepped through locked eyes with Link, he could see all colour drain from his face.
„Step closer Mozul.“ The Kings said.
Said man kneeled where the guard that had led Link here knelt earlier.
„Your majesty, what is the meaning of this?“
„That is what I am wondering as well.“ The King handed the letter back to the servant who hurriedly brought it down to Mozul.
„Is this piece of writing familiar to you?“ The King asked.
After a short pause, the Knight answered a swift: „No your majesty, should it be?“ and pretended to read the page. Link could see that his eyes did not move.
„It was brought to my attention that recently a group of Hylian Soldier have assaulted and killed a Gerudo Warrior. You are believed to have led the operation. Do you care to explain yourself?“
Apparently having given up on trying to deflect, Mozul suddenly burst out: „She killed two of our men your majesty! We did not start this conflict!“
The rage within Links chest roared and filled his vision with red. Within a second, he was next to the guard and to his surprise he found himself grabbing him by the front of his shirt and pulling. His angry snarl, „Liar!“ could be heard above the shocked gasps of the spectator and the guards unsheathing their weapons.
„Drop him Gerudo!“ The King shouted. „We will not resort to violence. Sheath your weapons guards! Right now!“
He heard swords reluctantly being put away as the red in his vision faded. He suddenly let go of the man’s shirt and made him stumble.
„Your majesty, you know who this boy is! How can you allow him to act like this, to even be here in such a dire situation! We cannot risk such a thing! My boy is nearby, what if he is out for his life, what if-“
He was cut off by the King.
„SILENCE!“ he screamed; the anger visible on his face. Deep breaths.
„Have you lead the assault on the Gerudo Warrior?“ the King shouted.
„You have left me no choice sir! He is a threat that need to be dealt with! You have seen him lash out right now yourself! We cannot risk him being alive lest Ganon will return and if that means making some women in the desert a little angry, I will gladly take that risk!“
The crowd around them had now descended into unstoppable whispering. Tales of these happenings would surely be told in many different versions and would have spread all throughout the kingdom shortly.
Deep. Breaths.
„You have cast war unto us. The Gerudo are prideful warriors, and they have the right to be for they are strong, unlike your son. He has yet to take on the role you wish him so desperately to fulfil and he vastly lacks the skill to do so. Your son is no more worthy of the heroes name than he himself!“ he nodded towards Link.
The son of the man who killed my mother is destined to kill me. That is quite the twist.
„Away with him! I have no means to deal with him right now. Away, into the dungeons! Forbid his family from seeing him lest they want to join him!“
As he was dragged away, Link locked eyes with Mozul. „Your mother’s death is your fault! You will destroy this kingdom; my son will put an end to this! He is the chosen one! He-“ The doors closed with a loud bang.
The silence that followed felt heavy.
„What will it take to prevent this unnecessary war?“ The King asked, almost desperate. Link thought only for a second before answering.
„You have defiled the Gerudo, broken the alliance. Even if it was not you yourself. Restore what can be restored. The Gerudo will not attack. Not yet.“
The King nodded. „Not all is lost then. I will do what I can to make amends. Although I understand that we cannot bring back who is lost.“ He tilted his head slightly.
„What about you? I cannot ignore that though he is vile, Mozul was right about one thing. You are destined to be consumed by the darkness we call Ganon, and his son is apparently destined to stop you, although I am beginning to doubt it more every day. What will you do with this knowledge? Will you rally an army of monsters, will you find forces to fight against us? Will this be the last conversation held in peace with a Gerudo?“
Link knew that the King was afraid. Although he had masked it well, The Kings voice was not quite as booming as before, his features twisted in a weirdly unsettling way.
„I have no desire for war right now. My doings are none of your business because you will have to let me go, as I came as an ambassador for the Gerudo. If you kill me now, any resemblance of alliance would be lost and I cannot promise that it wouldn‘t spell war to them. After I have left, my actions should not concern you either, because you will not find me. Farewell, your majesty. May the Gerudo and the Hylians find peace.“
He turned and walked out the door, without waiting for a reply.
Chapter 4: Death
Chapter Text
He had been running. For the Goddesses know how long; it must have been months. It had become cold, a cold that he had never felt before and that had almost killed him a few times. The warmth had crept back in. Food had still been sparse.
The people that helped him unknowing of his identity soon tried to sell him to the guards. They had been hunting him, the kings fear rising every day of whatever he might have done with his time. Rumour had it, that the king was also afraid that the hero would not be strong enough to fight him. If he was anything like his father, the king was probably right.
He was standing in front of a stone arch, surrounded by fog. A lone torch was burning in front of him, an unlit one leaning besides it. A place where they would not search. Where he could rest for a bit.
He had not quite trusted the old woman as she told him of this forest, she seemed a bit too eager for him to go there, but he was tired. And a forest the royal family went to once in a year and never outside of that time seemed quite perfect.
He grabbed the unlit torch and held it onto the fire. With his now lit torch, he followed the instructions the woman had given him. „Follow the Wind...“ He whispered. The torches flame leaned to the side as a strong breeze hit it. Link smiled softly and began walking.
After a few minutes of walking in seemingly random patterns through the forest, he climbed through a large hollowed out tree. Suddenly the fog cleared away and sunlight streamed through the trees. The trees within this clearing were bearing leaves unlike the ones outside. He stepped a few more feet into the clearing. „Koroks...“ he whispered. Small creatures looked at him warily, from behind tree stumps, out of the treetops or hiding within tall grass.
„I am surprised to see you here, Link.“ a loud voice spoke. „It seems that fate must have led you here.“
Link turned around in a circle. „Who are you? Where are you?“
„The people call me the great Deku tree. Up here, Link.“ he turned towards the large tree at the opposite end of the clearing.
„Oh.“
He could see the face clearly etched into the giant tree, his features constricted by either age or worry.
„You should not be here, Gerudo.“
„What, why-“
„This is a sacred place. Dedicated to the efforts to defeat those like you. Then again, you are not quite like the other born Gerudo males, are you.“
Link stepped closer to the tree. In front of its roots, surrounded by piles of rocks stood a pedestal. It was in a triangular shape, and at its centre stood, straight and gleaming in the sunlight, „The master sword.“ He gasped.
„Are you afraid of the Blade Link? Your namesake has wielded this with confidence countless times before.“
„A weapon that is meant to kill specifically you would unsettle everyone.“ Link said slowly.
„The royal family will arrive soon.“ The tree suddenly spoke.
Fire exploded in his veins. „What!“ Link shouted, jumping backwards. He had to get out of here before they would arrive. He could not risk them catching him after having successfully evaded them this long. Not now, not like this, when he had just wanted to finally get some rest...
„Do not run, Link. It is too late anyway.“
„What, but...“
„Sir!“ A loud shout let him spin around. in the hollow tree trunk stood a royal procession, the King, his daughter, and multiple guards. Behind them, stood the guards son. Link, that Link that was supposed to kill him.
„What- No matter. It is quite the opportunity.“ The King waved at his guards. Immediately, they all stepped back, leaving the princess and the chosen knight. They both took a step forward, standing in a line opposing Link.
„Why are you here, Gerudo?“ The heroes voice was firm, but Link could hear how scared he was.
„I could ask you the very same question“ he said simply, understanding that he was in a vast disadvantage.
„It is the day of the bloom. It is tradition to test the worthiness of boys on the first day of bloom after their sixteenth birthday. We are here to test, whether Link here is truly the one he claims to be.“
There was an edge to the princess voice. Something about the way she stood there and eyed her knight suspiciously, how she stood a few feet away from the hero, made him think that Zelda knew something Link did not.
„Then test away, I am not here to stop you.“ He stepped away from the sword, feeling like he was walking against a strong wind. He watched the Hero closely.
„If I draw that blade, you will die on this clearing, today. I do not care about the sacred rules of this place.“ The knight sneered. He stepped forward towards the pedestal, wrapped his hands around the grip and -
Nothing happened. He pulled again; The blade did not move.
„I feel the point is proven. You are not the Hero.“ Zelda said, stepping forward.
„No, it- It can‘t be I-“
„Step back, child. It has been tested and disproven. The sword will harm you if you try again.“ The Deku Tree suddenly spoke up.
„No...NO I-“ Suddenly he broke off, stared into the distance. Then he turned around out of the blue and ran out of the clearing.
„Well then. I fear we know how this will continue.“ The King said slowly, stepping forward. The guards alongside him raised their weapons. A cold shudder raced along Links Spine.
„Father no. Let me test my theory, please. What do we have to lose?“ Zelda sounded desperate as she turned towards her father, gesturing in Link’s direction.
The King hesitated. „Fine“, he sighed. „Why not.“
Zelda carefully stepped closer to Link. „Can you do me a favour... Link?“
He eyed her suspiciously. „Depends.“
„Try and pull the blade.“ He stared at her. „What?“
„Try and pull it.“
„Why would it let me? I am it‘s nemesis am I not?“
As he spoke, he felt a weird tugging within his gut. As he looked up at the sky, dark purple clouds darkened the sun.
„No...“ he heard the King whisper.
„Link quick, you must- Link! No, what is happening!“
As Zelda had spoken Link had fallen to his knees. A weird ringing was pulsing through his head and was making him dizzy. Suddenly loud roars filled the air. Monsters burst from the ground around them.
„Zelda! Quick, come here! Guards! Kill the traitor!“ Link did not know whether they followed to king’s commands. Everything was too loud, too noisy. The monsters stomped on by, ignoring his presence entirely.
My destiny. I could not outrun it.
His heart was pounding in his chest. The familiar rage he had worked so hard to contain was no longer within his control. He felt his body being filled by it, the emotion not being his own.
No, he thought, I can‘t let it end like this.
He forced himself to look up, feeling a wave of nausea run over him. The guards were trying to get through to him, but the monsters had easily encircled them and were slowly forcing them to retreat backwards.
They are protecting me. No... they are protecting it...
It was tugging at him, pulling at every fibre of his being, pulling at his very soul itself. It was trying to get rid of him, he realized, to make this body it‘s own. He could not let that happen. But what could he do to prevent it? He felt the presence within him grow stronger with every beat of his heart, could feel it fill him completely.
„Mother...“ he whispered. She would not have wanted this. She had spent her whole life on preventing this very thing. He had failed her.
No. It‘s not over yet.
If it comes down to it, he had sworn himself one night during a storm, imagining the world rumbling because of him, he will destroy himself before he would let others be destroyed by him. He would not let his mother’s sacrifices go in vain, would not allow her memory to be of the women they had warned and that just wouldn‘t listen, the women that brought Hyrule to its knees because of her selfishness. His mother had trusted him to prevent this. He had promised he would.
It is time to fulfil that promise.
He hauled himself to his feet. Malice particles were swirling through the air, red light was illuminating the clearing. „Kill the traitor! Kill him! NOW!“ The Kings voice sounded far away, as if he was in another world. The royals had already fled the clearing, leaving him alone with the occasional monster running through.
The Koroks had all fled or hidden as well, some monsters were running about, searching for something he couldn‘t care to identify. He turned towards the blade.
It had started glowing, malice particles that touched the metal disintegrated. As if in a daze Link stepped closer.
Zelda had wanted him to pull the sword. She hadn‘t seemed like she was trying to gain something from him, just like she was genuinely curious. Like she was trying to help.
No one had helped him without wanting something in return in a long time.
He put his hands on the blade. It did not burn him, but rather a reassuring warmth filled him as soon as he touched it. He closed his grip around it and pulled.
The blade was freed. Glowing in the purple light, it seemed to try to soothe him, to reassure him that everything was going to be alright.
„The Hero is destined to kill the Demon King, with this weapon,“ he said quietly and held the blade up towards the sky. As he looked at the back of his hand, he saw what he had expected as soon as he had pulled the sword.
On his hand glowed not one, but two triangles of the Tri-force, not only power, but also courage.
„And I am both.“
He lowered his blade and closed his eyes. „I will fulfil my destinies. I will bring peace to Hyrule. I will not let the darkness consume who I am. I will not let them paint my mother as a fool.“
He stretched the Sword out in front of him and before he could hesitate, he thrust it into his own stomach with all his might.
As he fell to his knees for the second time that day, he barely felt the pain of the sword. He could feel the malice within his veins sizzle out at the touch of the metal and couldn‘t help but smile, as the world around him faded to black. He had done it. He imagined a familiar warm smile as he let his consciousness drift away.
Mother will be proud. So, so proud.
*********
When the people spoke of the last Gerudo male, they spoke in hushed whispers. He was not one to be talked about, because he did not match what was known about the legends. He had broken many rules, but he had done what he had needed to do to save Hyrule. The day of the darkening was remembered as a day of sacrifice, but also as a day of promise to the Gerudo. The bond between them and the other races, especially the Hylians, had only grown stronger after the Hero‘s sacrifice and halfway in between the towns entrance and the castle gates a memorial was built. It served as a meeting place for people that held grudges or were discussing important things. And once a year, it held a ceremony, on the day it had happened. They sacrificed to the gods, praying for Ganon to not return for a very long time and prayed for the future hero, that he may succeed easily.
Some people liked to tell stories about him then, intricate romance plots about a secret relationship with the princess. Others liked to believe that in truth she had killed him and that he had not done it himself.
Either theory seemed equally stupid to her. She did not have the strength to kill a human being, let alone as good of a person as he was. She remembered watching the malice disappear from the sky and running back towards the pedestal, to find him dead, the two triangles still glowing on his hand and a faint smile plastered on his lips.
The Hero who was also the Evil he was fighting was an enigma to many and so he slowly was forgotten, erased with time and new tragedies, his tombstone forgotten as it once was, but still used as a neutral place for diplomacy.
It is what she would have wanted. To bring peace to Hyrule.
