It's bad enough that Percy had convinced himself to come to this blasted family reunion. But what had he been thinking, bringing Oliver along to pretend to be his boyfriend? Of course everyone sees through them immediately.
"And how long have you two been seeing each other, hmm?" Ginny asks with a cheeky grin.
"It's… fairly new," Percy says, hating how warm his cheeks feel.
"And you just happened to leave out this important detail about your life at dinner last week."
Percy purses his lips. "There's a saying about gift horses and their mouths."
"Right," Ginny says. Her expression says she isn't buying a word of it.
Oliver returns then with Ron and Harry in tow, and the teasing almost feels worse when they have to endure it together.
"I'm so sorry," Percy says when they have a moment alone. "This was a terrible idea."
"What makes you say that?"
Percy doesn't get a chance to answer, as his uncle Fleming pulls him aside to show him vacation photos.
It's not until Percy overhears Oliver's conversation with George that the situation shifts from a nightmare into something else. Something hopeful.
"Actually, if he hadn't been seeing someone else in our final year, we would have been together at Hogwarts. At least if I had anything to say about it. You can tease all you like, but that won't make my feelings for your brother any less real."
"Alright, mate. Didn't mean to hit a nerve," George says.
"Oliver?" Percy manages, joining up to them hesitantly. George retreats the moment Oliver looks away from him. "Apologies for eavesdropping. But… do you mean that?"
Oliver swallows and, after a moment, nods. "Sorry. I know that wasn't the plan."
Percy steps into his space. "Sod the plan," he says, and kisses Oliver.
