Work Text:
Aki looked in the mirror. Then looked away. Then looked back.
Combed his fingers through his hair, short and pink and fuzzy and cool to the touch. He scratched at the back of his neck where there were leftover hair strands and looked back up at his reflection.
He smiled a bit.
Luna had been right, duh.
He was sitting at a table, “their table” as Julien and Monet had started calling it, when Luna sat down in front of him. She smelled like jasmine, kinda like his mom. Some perfume she got called Caroline Herrera that Monet hated cause it was floral and Julien hated cause Monet hated it.
He shifted a little closer and let his nostrils flare a bit as he inhaled it again. He reflexively smiled and felt his eyes focus a bit better on his surroundings and his shoulders relaxed. Clarity entered in his brain as he took in the table and felt his skateboard in his hands. Floral was nice.
That’s when he noticed her appraising eyes looking at him.
“You know between those cheekbones and those sad, slutty, teddy bear eyes of yours I’m thinking we can do something to give your look some edge.” She said, head slightly tilted and eyes narrowed. He didn’t know if it was her contacts bothering her or something on his face.
“What?”
She rolled her eyes. “Aki, seriously, if you’re not going to have anything going on between your ears you should at least be pleasant to look at. You’re starting to look like scholarship kids. Or worse…public school students. It’s the hair.”
Aki blinked slowly.
“Audrey likes my hair!” He said reflexively, eyes casted around, looking for the blonde like she might overhear.
Luna chose to ignore that comment, filed it under the ever growing list of inane comments she had to hear all day. Right between Obie’s lecture on some castle or church or whatever in France burning down and the English teacher who looked like a chipmunk’s speech on some stupid play from England.
“I know someone who can fix your hair for you. Texting you their number now. Buzz it. Dye it pink. Text me the results, I wanna use it for JC’s IG post for ‘Fashion Tips Wednesday’ so get it done tonight.” She ordered before walking away.
Aki stared after her for a moment before getting up too.
He looked back up at the mirror and smiled a real grin this time as he took a picture and sent it to Luna.
‘Perfect Ak. I’m a genius, have I ever let you down?’
Aki grinned as he clicked his phone shut, grabbed his skateboard and headed out the door. ‘No, you never have.’ He thought to himself.
