K'Inktober Minifics

Summary:

A series of short stories, drabbles, limericks, poems (and one Only Connect board) based on the one word prompts for Inktober 2021 (but not illustrated) and using various kinks (none explicit) and canon additions. All set in the Harry Potter universe pre-1980 (so no Golden Trio).

Chapter 1: Crystal

Chapter Text

Sybill Trelawney cupped the crystal ball in her hands and bent over it. Her breath frosted the surface, then cleared.

Hers was a true crystal, carved from the rock and showing fractures and edges deep within its heart. "A true crystal for true seeing," her grandmother had said when she had gifted it to her successor. Teenage Sybill had been disappointed, she had wanted a nice clear ball, like the ones she had been taught with at Hogwarts, and which were now in her own classroom. Perfect spheres, hewn by dwarves and crafted by magic. Simple to use but equally simple to misinterpret - if you got anything at all.

Time had honed her skill, and proved her grandmother's words right. Which was only to be expected from a prophetess.

Sometimes, though, it was best not to see things too clearly. Especially now.

There were three people in the room, two on the bed, and a child asleep in a cot. The couple on the bed were... coupling. The covers were dishevelled enough for her to see that they were naked, and she might have turned away, but she knew that the crystal would not have shown her this unless it was important. So she watched as James and Lily Potter touched, and stroked, and arced, and came and...

There was no sound, but she felt the shock of James' scream as green spell-light flooded the image and sent the crystal tumbling to the floor, followed by her own limp body.
