In a world where it collapses without you

Summary:

Life hates me, and so that's why I hate life back. Some people will say it's just satisfaction to do so, or some sort of mentality of: you hate me, I'll hate you back.

But no.

Not for me.

For me, it's the line between life and death. A rule I must follow because...

Nothing will ever go right for me, no matter how evil or heroic I be.

or

What happens if I replaced Y/n with Delta, my demon oc? How would the world of Zombietale change?

or

Delta is trapped by a facility that promises to make a cure. Spoiler alert: They didn't. Delta decided to escaped for good, only to meet skeletons three years later.

Hello! So you know me by now. If ya haven't already I highly recommend reading Kamisori's story Zombietale. Even if the story and plots are completely different maybe you can get some sense of (a few) of the character's personalities.

Zombietale is a really good fic! I love it!

Chapter Text

- Information -

-> This fic was Inspired by Kamisori’s story, Zombietale.

-> Set in an apocalypse (you can expect it like any zombie au). I have also incorprated Zombietale into my fic but it’s not that noticeable.

But I would like to say what is noticeable. In Kamisori’s story, MC goes to a post regularly. That post exist in my fic but it’s nothing like their’s. I have also used Zombietale Sans (Scout) and Papyrus (Sprout). That Sans and Papyrus belongs to them, and the reason for why they're building the machine is the same.

Also HEAVILY inspired by The Last Of Us. At least with the zombies. They don’t look like them though.

Also also, magic is useless against zombies, it just attracts them more, like they can smell the scent. I know monsters are made out of magic, but I believe it’s too weak for zombies to scent it. Magical attacks on the other hand are more stronger.

-> In this fic, there is no Y/N or MC. Instead it’s an original character. (so think of it as I replaced Kamisori’s MC with my OC ).

-> There will be ¡NO smut or rape/non-con whatsoever! I am not that type of writer or reader. That doesn’t mean there is no romance. (There will).

-> There will be only Sans/Reader but only with one of the Sanses. The rest will be very close friends/platonic buddies. That means there will be no Papyrus/Reader. Sorry fellow Papyrus lovers.

-> Only one of my OC would be here (like alive), all the rest are dead T^T. All for the plot :D but I need to tell you this because they will appear in the fic as just their name or maybe in flashbacks if needed. You don’t need to know them very well or their powers for that matter as I will explain it if they appear.

Here are there names:

- Xavier

- Marshal

- Sirus

- Pavel

- Yamal

- Lamis

-> My OC is male (if you want the pronouns He/Him ) and is a demon character. His name is Delta (Yes, I know Delta is a females name BUT I didn’t know it at the time, and now i'm attached to it.)

Note: This isn’t a canon version of my OC.

Powers:

- Can shapeshift into anything (he doesn’t need to fully shift either. It can just be a body part). When shapeshifting into someone who has powers, he is able to copy one ability they have (He can’t choose, it would most likely be like a common attack).

For example, let’s say, one of the skeletons. When he shapeshifts into them, he can only create bones. Nothing more, not even sharp bones, though he can change the length.

- Delta can melt into things to dodge or to use it for fast travel as he moves quicker when in that form.

- Is able to levitate.

- Delta cannot die… Well, ok, he can but he will come back. Let me explain:

He will feel the pain from whatever kills him. Once he dies, his body will decay. When he is dead he is brought back to Hell. (can’t tell you why cause it's apart of the story) After that he will have 6 months to go back before he is ripped back into his body. Note - The early he goes back the more harder it is for him to function. (Please tell me if that makes sense T^T)

- Delta only has one weakness, That means he can’t break it nor melt out of it. It’s steel. Why? (Tbh, I didn’t want to make him more op then he is already lol).

Personality:

- Think of any cocky character in the media… Yep that’s him. Suppperrr cocky and can be vary childish at times.

- Although when the time is right (for him), he can be scarily serious.

- Has no social cues what so ever, but he learns to mimic others really well.

- Can say very fucked up things (about others and himself), but he’s not doing it intensionally (as shown above)

- Ok, this next part is VERY, and I mean VERY. similar to Killer sans. You know his stages? The one about his emotions and stuff. Well, my character has the same thing. His emotions can go very off kilter and it leaves him in this emotionless state and he can turn very violent. Only one thing can calm him down, and it only works like 70% of the time. The one thing is, one of my other character Marshal. Kind of like a parental figure (well kind of, since, well, Delta is alot older than Marshal).

Facts to be aware of:

- Delta’s blood is white and will always be white no matter if he shapeshifts.

- His stats box will change when he shifts.

- When he shifts there will always be a fade of his original eye colour showing. It’s not noticeable, but if you are trying to look for it, you can tell.

-> As you already know Delta is not a human, but he is not a monster nor a mage either. This is where my (kind of) Original species (not really just the name) comes in. A fourth category of sum sort: Mithvs .

This story’s headcanon is that there are four kinds of species instead of the regular three we all know:

(Numbers shows who’s the strongest)

Mithvs(s) - 1

Mage(s) - 2

Inside Mithvs are different species like Hybrids, Demons, mythical creatures, etc. It’s like sub-species in this species

- All sub-species all work together expect one.

- Almost never have cases like what humans and mages have. (This doesn’t mean everything is sunshine and rainbows)

Basically humans with powers (nothing else really. The appearance of a mage are the same as humans).

- In the war, mages worked with humans.

Human(s) - 3 - The most superior

Monster(s) - 4

Just a human being.

- Humans are greedy. They only want power.

Creatures that were stuck in the mountains by humans and mages.

- The soul is the culmination of their being.

- They are made of magic.

-> Brief summary about the history:

It’s 1495

- The four species were in harmony

- Humans wanted power, and specifically for more land. They only knew one way to get it… To declared war on the monsters, but the humans weren't alone. Mages helped them.

- Fortunately for the humans and mages, they won.

- Monsters were trapped in the underground by mages

- While all this was happening, the mithvs did not want to interfere.

- 37 years later, humans and mages declared war with the mithvs. They lost miserably with both population dwindling between the 1 billion mark.

- Humans and mages started to blame the mithvs about everything.

- 80 years have passed, the human population is now 4.2 billion and the mages were 2.6 billion.

- Humans and mages now called themselves the ‘Maman alliance force team(s)’ known as the “M.A.F.Ts”. The younger and older generations of M.A.F.Ts have been told how ‘terrible’ mithvs was.

- M.A.F.Ts have been trying to figure out a way to extinct Mithvs, as they believe they are to much of a threat. They already knew they couldn’t trap them in the underground like they did with the monsters, as mithvs had to much powerful magic and could rival mages.

- M.A.F.Ts eventually figured out an idea that could work. To make magic suppresses. This information was all kept away from the general public.

- 200 years later, 5 attempts where made to kill the mithvs when working on the magic suppresses, but none was successful.

- 10 years later, the magic suppresses where finally finished. There were known as the “Ms defeats”.

- It took them about 7 years to finally get there first subject. When they used it, it was much easier to kill them when they didn't have there magic and so kill they did.

- They started off picking sub-species. The dragons were the first, than mythical creatures, and so on and so forth. Mithvs populations were dwindling. Even the immortals were dying.

- They realised the Ms defeats had side effects when put on the users, that's why immortals were dying as well, but they didn’t think much of it and thought it was a positive side effect.

- 42 years later, the only sub-species that were left in mithvs was hybrids and demons.

- Demons were targeted first, but before they could kill all of them, they already started taking hybrids. This all happened in the span of 26 years.

It’s now 1899 (Even though it’s 1899, let’s just say technology is more advance than what the real world was like back then. As, well other species played a part of it.)

- Hybrids were different. Things didn’t go as planned. They noticed something weird. Something that they should of noticed when it first appeared. The side effects that all the others had was a little more reactive in Hybrids. What they didn’t know was that the world could turn to hell in a matter of 10 months with that mistake.

The beginning of the apocalypse.

-> Extra info

- Monsters was stuck in the underground for 511 years as of 2006

- Frisk was 8 when they fell down in the underground in 1990

- Frisk was 24 when she died (Zombietale) Frisk can’t reset

- It was 2006 when they were freed (same year Frisk died)

- It’s been 120 years since the apocalypse started as of 2019

- The alternates came to the world in 2016

- They met Delta 3 years later in 2019

Pain.

That was all I could feel, pain.

Pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain.

Just pain.

I don’t know how to feel anything else, it’s always PAIN.

Standing, pain. Sitting, pain. Laying down, pain. Sleeping, pain. Waking up, pain. Talking, pain. Moving, PAIN.

It’s. Just. Pain.

Why, why are they doing this to me. Why are they using me? Why are they leaving me?

Why did they take me? I̶ ̶̶̶k̶̶̶n̶̶̶o̶̶̶w̶̶̶ ̶̶̶e̶̶̶x̶̶̶a̶̶̶c̶̶̶t̶̶̶l̶̶̶y̶̶̶ ̶̶̶w̶̶̶h̶̶̶y̶̶̶.̶

I don’t want this… I want to be free. I don’t want to be stuck here for who knows how long. I never can be safe here. Why can’t they just safe the world already. They have the cure, it’s literally right in their faces all the frickin time. But what did they do? They watch the fucking world burn, watch everyone who’s outside of this facility suffer. After all, I know they’re just gonna blame it on me. On why it took so long to restore the world. Cause ‘m just ‘er little scapegoat. It’s such a shame that humans are still, greedy, selfish little shits even after all these years.

This place has been my bloody home for years. I haven’t seen the sky, the trees, the dirt, rivers and oceans and lots more for so long. They took everything from me, a-and I don’t know what to do next. I hate that I can remember everything as still as stone, no matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to forget. Sometimes it can go a little faulty, like how many years I’ve been strapped in this hell hole. I can’t remember how long.

And I hate it. I want to know.

I NEED to know.

                                                ……………………………………………………………………………………….

                                                     ………………………………………………………………………………

                                                            ……………………………………………………………………

                                                                   ………………………………………………………

                                                                         ……………………………………………

                                                                               …………………………………

                                                                                     ………………………

                                                                                         ……………….

                                                                                             …………

                                                                                                ……

                                                                                                 …

The door slammed open as a familiar voice came in, and started yelling at me to get moving.

“Wake up subject D, it’s time for your dose!”

This was a daily occurrence. Every day at a specific time, I get injected. This fluid spreads throughout my body to do who knows what. They never tell me anything. The only thing I know is that they want to take my magic, my powers, my gadgets and my intelligence (even if they have enough already). I want to fight back. Fight for everything they have done to me, for my friends that believed in me, for my kind that all fought so diligently. But life isn’t always fair. They knocked me down, isolated me, experimented on me, starved me, drowned Me, told me to build myself back up, killed ME. You name it, they probably tried it on me.

I... Me, Delta, is a part of the Mithvs species. Specifically the Demon section. It’s known that There are 2 types of demons. Immortals and non-immortals. I’m a part of the immortal types, but I’m different. I can truly die. I can feel the pain of dying and then come back as if nothing happened. Others don’t, others can’t die and therefore can’t perceive what dying actually feels like, and that leads us to here. When the M.A.F.Ts made the magic suppresses known as the “Ms defeats”, it had foreign magic that easily rivalled Mithvs powerful magic. This caused a bunch of side effects within the Mithvs community, and one of the effects was that it empowered the magic that makes people immortal. It’s kinda easy to figure out what happens next. Let's just say that being Immortal wasn't that safe anymore, nothing was safe anymore. The only option was to run, but it was too late.

… … … …

... ... ...

... ...

...

..

.

It was really sad that no one could escape, could leave, that it was really it for the Mithvs. Except me. Why did It never work out for me . . . Why the Ms defeats didn't work . . . It couldn't just kill me for good …. Just kill me like the others . . . Like all my other fellow demons . . . My fellow immortals  . . . It . . . It . . . It just locked my magic . . . well tried too, some was still spilling out but it was doing a pretty good job. . . like it was supposed to. . .  . . .  . . . Nothing else. . . Or at least I think. Why. I’m not that special…. Why…. did it have to be me…

Dragons didn’t really have that bad of an effect, mythical creatures didn’t really have it bad either, and the others much the same, but they still got killed. Now Hybrids is a completely different story. They weren’t so lucky. All of the concentrated and reserved magic that Hybrids had, turned against them and made Ms Defeat even stronger. This causes their body to decay because of the lack of magic going through their bodies. The first thing they noticed was that their morals started to change, and then they started to lose their consciousness. As a result, they lost the ability to control themselves. This is why the world has gone to shit right now. They turned into literal living zombies. The M.A.F.Ts could have stopped it. My friends could have still been alive….

I was brought back to the present as I was tossed on the cold, dirty ground. I whimpered as the pain came back full force.

“Subject D, in 10 days we’ll have the machine done and completed, ready to use, so you better be prepared. Here is your schedule for the 10 days. You will be following the schedule and the times written on it. We won’t be feeding or giving you water. It's a necessary part, we need your magic to be stronger.”

He tossed it to me and then proceeded to talk.

“You will be navigating yourself around the area. Don’t worry, if you try any funny business, punishment will be in order. The same applies to escaping. Even if you do try and escape, you won't be able to as we have locked everything that you are not supposed to go in. If all the things that are given to you are not completed within 10 days. More work will be given to you after the experiment is conducted, and isolation will be given. You will be starting tomorrow. We will give you a clock to show you the time. I doubt that you forgot how to read clocks. Understood?”

“I said understood, subject D!”

“Y-s, u-d-rst-od.”

“Great.”

*SLAM

The door was “gratefully” slammed. Wow, the manners he has is on point. Heh, that would be insulting if I did forget how to read clocks. I was so busy repeating information in my head that I didn’t even realise we had already finished. I looked at the messy pile of papers scattered right in front of me. I decided to have a look at what I was going to do.

Day 1                                       use blood to tick off.

  •  Dose: 5:25 am
  •  Back to room: 5:35 am
  •  Check maintenance: 5:48 am
  •  Do tests in PR: 2hrs , DTR: 2hrs, RBD: 1hr, SLG: 5hrs rooms: 6:30 am
  •  Blood monitoring: 4:35 pm
  •  Paperwork: 5:10 pm
  •  Back to room: 7:00 pm

Day 2                                       use blood to tick off.

  •  Dose: 5:25 am
  •  Back to room: 5:35 am
  •  Check maintenance: 5:55 am
  •  Do tests in PR: 1hr 30mins , DTR: 2hrs, WM: 3hrs, SCG: 3hrs rooms: 7:00 am
  •  Blood monitoring: 4:35 pm
  •  Fighting practice: 5:10 pm
  •  Back to room: 8:30 pm

Day 3                                       use blood to tick off.

  •  Dose: 5:25 am
  •  Scan: 5:35 am
  •  Check energy source: 6:00 am
  •  Do tests in WM: 2hrs , DTR: 4hrs, SM: 40mins, SCG: 3hr 30mins rooms: 6:20 am
  •  Blood monitoring: 4:35 pm
  •  Paperwork: 5:10 pm
  •  Back to room: 7:00 pm

The other papers were in a similar state. Wow, I need to wake up that early, just so I can inject the dose, and I really hate that half of my day is used to do all the tests. Why do I need to use my blood to tick the boxes off anyways? No matter what, if I listen, I won't get punished. This is going to be the longest 10 days of my life.

Chapter Text

Day 1: First day of tasks- // 5/5/16.

Hey hey. I forgot I had this diary. Wow, been so long since I wrote in this book.

It’s like 3:31 am here. They installed the clock a while ago. I love that it's one that shows you the dates, ya know that got me real ecstatic. Still doesn't tell me how long I've been here though. I’ve just been staring, it’s like the only interesting thing in this room. Oh and if ya wondering how I’m writing this. It’s quite simple honestly, I shapeshifted into something goopy, or a creature that doesn’t use magic to produce something. Yeah, turns out my shapeshifting isn’t magic-based, so I can still do that. The people in the facility don't know that and I’m making it stay that way. Who knows it could help me one day. Of course, the facility has a lot of cameras, but I’m a master (well not really a master, I still get some suspicious glances sometimes) at disabling them.

I'm reading my schedule for today:

Dose: 5:25 am

Back to room: 5:35 am

Check m̶a̶i̶n̶t̶a̶n̶c̶e̶n̶c̶e̶ maintenance: 5:48 am

Do tests in PR: 2hrs , DTR: 2hrs, RBD: 1hr, SLG: 5hrs rooms: 6:30 am

Blood monitoring: 4:35 pm

Paperwork: 5:10 pm

Back to room: 7:00 pm

Still have another 2hrs and 1̶0̶ 34 mins before my schedule starts. Really don’t feel like sleeping, and now I don’t really feel like writing in this book either, so I’ll update this when I get motivated or when something interesting happens. Bye.

- 5:39 am -

Hello! I finished injecting the dose and I’m back in my room again. It felt so weird walking all by myself in the corridors. Well, there are 9 mins before I have to check how all the maintenance is doing. Should be easy enough. I can try and change things up a bit. Ya know to make it easier for myself. Even though I said that they’ve got enough intelligence, there’re still a lot of flaws in their machines and technology.

And yeah yeah, I know they said if I did anything bad or wrong, punishment will be given but the heck, they won’t even know. A few patches and wires will do the trick. My machine still works, thanks to bloody hell for that, who knows when I need it. I haven’t used it in a long time, it’s mainly to save battery, as well as to keep the humans from noticing. They took almost all of my machines that were out in the open. Though I still have a few stashes hidden somewhere, oh and thank god I still have all my important inventions and gadgets with me.

Welp, that’s time, need to go before I’m late. Can’t stop by for the rest of the day so see ya when I get back to the room at 7:00 pm. Bye.

- 7:10 pm -

Hey, I’m back. Gosh, today was exhausting. I did all the maintenance work, it was really therapeutic for me. I did the changes like I said I was going to do, now it will be easier for me to disable the cameras without seeming just a tiny bit suspicious. I decided that this is the perfect time to try to escape again, cause the last time I tried to escape was a long time ago and it didn't turn out so well. I’m all by myself for the 10 days, and within the 10 days, 6̶h̶r̶s̶  7̶h̶r̶s̶ ̶4̶5̶m̶i̶n̶s̶  8hr 31mins is dedicated to checking maintenance and the power and energy source. Should just be enough to figure out how to shut down the power, how to use the doors and of course how to disable the Ms defeats. Will be a lot of work but that’s what ya gotta do when you’ve been stuck in a prison for many, many, many years.

Ok, that’s settled, n̶o̶w̶ ̶w̶h̶e̶r̶e̶ ̶w̶a̶s̶ ̶I̶,̶ ̶o̶h̶ ̶r̶i̶g̶h̶t̶!̶ After checking maintenance, I had to do the tests. It took me a very, very long time to figure out what the names of the rooms were talking about but I eventually got it. (after many years)

So let's see, when it says PR is Puzzle Room,

DTR is D Test Room, (I think)

RBD is R ead B ooks Decor,

SLG is S cience L ab Ground,

WM is W eapon Making,

SR is S orting Room.

It’s kinda funny how stupid humans are at naming things, and why do I need to read books. D̶a̶m̶n̶ ̶i̶d̶i̶o̶t̶ ̶h̶u̶m̶a̶n̶s̶. I mean it’s a lot better than being hurt but still. Anyways, as the schedule said I had to go and do PR for 2hrs and then another 2hrs for DTR, and 1hr for RBD and last but not least 5hrs for SLG.

PR honestly wasn’t that bad, it would’ve been better if I didn’t get zapped every time I did a mistake. RBD was actually a hidden grace compared to DTR where I had to perform all different kinds of tests on myself. SLG was the second worst. I love science n’ all but my gosh, why do they need me to make so many coffee machines and other useless junk. Like ya would think when yall in a s̶i̶c̶e̶n̶c̶e̶ science lab yall’w be dealing with chemicals and stuff, not this. ̶u̶g̶h̶, ̶I̶ ̶s̶w̶e̶a̶r̶ ̶I̶ ̶h̶a̶t̶e̶ ̶h̶u̶m̶a̶n̶s̶ ̶s̶o̶ ̶m̶u̶c̶h̶.̶  Ok, after all of that I had to monitor my blood, and that was really tiring. Had to stab the needle in 10 times just to get it right. They never even showed me how to fuckin do it. Well, ok it was partially my fault too. I never really paid much attention when they were checking my blood.

After that fiasco, it was time for “paperwork”!!! Yay! I fuckin love it. <3! Not gonna say much about it but was a bitch to do, so let's just stick with that.

Now I’m exhausted. I swear, why is it more tiring when it’s just me walking around this area. I mean, I’ve been doing this for years now.

Maybe, it’s because of the excitement of escaping again. Who knows.

Welp, I should go to sleep, tomorrow is going to be a long day.

Day 2: Second day of tasks- // 6/5/16.

Day 2 is here, and I woke up earlier than I was supposed to again. It’s 3:50 am. I can set a plan for today I guess. There is not much to write in this book for now, so bye.

- 5:39 am -

*just gonna do a list so I don’t have to write paragraphs after paragraphs*

-Injected the dose

- In room now

- Have to do a maintenance check again

- So hungry

- (I know) They said they're not gonna feed me within the 10 days, but the heck! They have been doing that since the beginning.

- Tell me, hows injecting mysterious fluid inside of me called “feeding me”

- The fluid doesn't even feed me it just makes me feel numb!

h̶u̶m̶a̶n̶s̶ ̶a̶r̶e̶ ̶s̶i̶c̶k̶.

- 5:39 am -

- Finally back to room.

- It was still exhausting.

- M̶a̶i̶n̶t̶e̶n̶e̶n̶c̶e̶ ̶ Maintenance was good. Did more changes.

- PR was good but annoying, DTR was still a piece of shit, WM was pretty fun (stole a few things but just made more so it looked like nothing happened. Damn, why didn’t I think of this until now)

- Could be really useful for my plan.

- Fuck SCG, though did try to make something new with the spare parts.

- Really tired after that.

- Blood m̶o̶n̶i̶t̶o̶r̶u̶i̶n̶g̶ monitoring still sucked.

- Fight prac was good. They make me do it because, in case of an emergency, I can protect them. (though this is good for me as well)

- Tired.

- Going to tick every sheet off later.

- Hungry.

- Tired.

- Going to collapse now.

- Night.

Day 3: Third day of tasks- // 7/5/16.

It’s day 3, and you know what, I actually did collapse. I woke up at 5:15 am. Well, I'm writing this at 5:18. If my maths didn’t fail me, I still have 2 mins left before things power on. Ok, ok, What do I need to do today? Dose (of course), scans (good), energy source (now I can try a few things), tests (take more weapons and scraps I guess and fuck the rest), fuck blood monitoring and as well as paperwork. Well, today is an ok day, nothing really big or little. Still gonna be an ass though. Kk. 5:20, things just powered on, need to walk over there now, bye.

- 6:20 am -

- Took book with me.

- Dose done.

- Scans are done, bones are rotting inside of me and have many cracks. Don’t know how I'm still alive.

- Outside scans looks primitively well, need more though.

- Energy source is also doing well, tried to shut it down but it didn’t work. They did something where it just powers up again. Need to let it power off for more than 10 mins, will try and figure something out.

- Now up to WM.

- 7:05 pm -

- T̶e̶i̶r̶e̶d̶ Tired. Already done with this.

- WM was fine.

- DTR was death.

- SCG was, eh ok.

- Blood monitoring. . . was shit.

- Paperwork was an even bigger shit.

- Too tired to write or think.

- I’m ready to do m̶a̶i̶n̶t̶a̶n̶e̶n̶c̶e̶ m̶a̶i̶n̶t̶a̶n̶e̶n̶c̶e̶ m̶a̶i̶n̶t̶a̶n̶a̶n̶c̶e̶ maintenance tomorrow.

(Why can’t a̶ I spell.)

Day 4: Forth day of tasks- // 8/5/16.

5:20. Need to go now.

- 7:10 pm -

Back, it’s been a really long day. Woke up super late, ran as fast as I could. Figured out how to turn off the lights and, I now also have access to all the doors. This is a great start. I also had scans today, and I got more photos and camera surveillance of the outside, need to plan a route on where to go and leave from. My body doesn’t look any better. If my friends were here, they would hate that I’m trying this when I’m in such critical health, but what can I say, if I don’t try it now, I would probably never get the chance to again.

I might have an idea of why the power source is not turning off. When I was checking things, I found out that this place is powered by six, 17500 watts, generators. That explains what happened. I have only turned off one of the generators before and that’s why the lights and other electronic things only flickered on and off.

Next was SR . S orting Room was a little cruel to me- Actually, screw that, it was extremely cruel to me. Giving me stuff that came from the outside and expecting me to sort them out (normally). This is just telling me, showing me what I’ve lost over the past months, years, no decades, it’s just so cruel in my eyes. I have no idea how long I’ve been here doing the exact same thing over and over and over again. Thinking, hoping that one day, just one day things will change and I will be out of here. I will have my freedom again. That’s what my friends would want, that’s what my kind would want. I need to escape. For them, for my kind. Well, and of course for me. But, what if I can’t do it. What if I fail. What if all of this was just pointless if everything I did, everything I’m doing to escape was a complete utter waste. What if I’m not strong enough. What if they succeed in their project, take my magic, make the antidote, save the world, and leave me here. (heh, I guess saving the world and making the antidote is the only good part) Then USE me for their experiment. USE me to hurt me. USE me to take everything away from me. The sky, the dirt, the lakes rivers oceans, the animals, the trees, the outside. After all, I, can’t die. I’ll always be here, just here. I’ll fade away, even from myself. I won’t remember who I used to be. . .

- 9:35 pm -

Fade.

- 10:18 pm -

Fading.

- 12:03 am -

Fading forever.

Losing me, losing, shifting, shifting away from who I used to be.

I’ll just be an empty husk.

I’ll be like a doll.

Used to be played with, with no say of what’s happening to me.

- 1:50 am -

I think… I think I’m, gonna, give . . .

- 3:16 am -

… No, I am, I am going to do this. I need to stop thinking about the what if’s. I can’t always think about the negatives. I must believe in myself. I want- no I NEED my freedom back.

Day 5: // 9/5/16.

Day 5, well technically it’s been day 5 since 12 and I already started writing then, but ehh who cares. Anyways, ok, uh, yea, I had a mental breakdown yesterday night, didn’t sleep at all, but hey, it’s not like this is the first time and it’s not like anyone cares, heh heh. It’s 4 right now so 1 hour and 25 mins before my life repeats, “yay”.

There are 5 more days until I try to escape again and not gonna lie it’s making me nervous. I don’t fuckin’ frankly know if this is even going to work. Heck, I might just be wasting my energy on nothin’. Sigh, well, I won’t know if I don’t try. I mean I’ve got to, I’ve gone this far and sacrificed a lot for this fuckin escape attempt to fucking happen, Ahh shoot, why am I saying I so much. Ahh, I don’t know, I’m just gonna blame it on my tiredness…

Ok, dose, scan, SR room, WM room, RBD room, blood monitoring, check energy source, check maintenance and fighting practice.

Today’s a frickin long day, buuuut hey, it has everything I need to use for my plan, soo not complaining. Huh, Just a little bit more, I can last. It will work… I will escape. . . right?

- 10:34 pm -

- I’m back.

- Made a lot of progress and am feeling way better than before.

- Even got more photos of the outside, it looks sooooo pretty. W̶e̶l̶l̶,̶ ̶p̶r̶e̶t̶t̶y̶ ̶a̶s̶ ̶i̶t̶ ̶c̶a̶n̶ ̶g̶e̶t̶ ̶a̶s̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶s̶t̶a̶t̶e̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶w̶o̶r̶l̶d̶, ̶s̶i̶g̶h̶,̶ ̶I̶ ̶c̶a̶n̶'̶t̶ ̶w̶a̶i̶t̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶b̶e̶ ̶o̶u̶t̶.

- oh, and I just realized, I have no idea where the hell I am and how frickin big this facility even is. I really need to find a map or something. Come to think of it, I think I saw a file that was called “Mapping”. Could check it tomorrow. Soooo, the idea of finding a route to escape has to be put on hold.

-  OH, OH, OH, and I. Just. Frickin. Realised, that the six, 17500 watts, generators are in the frickin same room as the maintenance, energy source and scans.

  1. Am.      Such.      An.      I - di - ot.

Anyways, other than that, I made more weapons to use for my escape attempt, yay! Well, I mean more the marrier.

I don’t have anything else to talk about really, well then that means see ya on toms entry, bye

Day 6: // 10/5/16.

I just woke up, feeling ehh, alright. Need to do the dose in 5 minutes, so bye. See ya very soon.

- 5:41 am -

Back. I finished doing my dose, now going back to do work now.

- 8:02 pm -

OH YES, it turns out the file that was called “mapping,” is the whole layout of the facility. YES, now I can start planning my escape. I had no idea this place was frickin 2 stories high, wow I can’t frickin believe it, ha, oh and I really thought there will be like 4 or more doors to the outside but NO, there is only FUCKIN’ ONE, ONE ESCAPE ROUTE FOR ME. WHAT IS MY FUCKIN’ LUCK. ̶H̶a̶t̶e̶ ̶m̶y̶ ̶l̶i̶f̶e̶.̶

s̶i̶g̶h̶ and I just reminded myself, there is no frickin way I can remember everything, so to solve that problem, I think I’m going to bring this book so I can draw the map. I’m not Picasso, so I’m not expecting it to look like a masterpiece. I can only draw the bare minimum. I also need to solve the problem of shutting down all 6, 17500 watts, generators. As of right now, I can only shut it down for like 6 minutes and I need at least 15. Need to experiment more on that for tomorrow’s work, cause that’s not gonna be enough time for me to escape. I think that’s all I have to do, fix that 6-minute problem with the generators, draw the map, and find out how to escape. What am I going to do after that? Wellll, that really sounds like a future me problem, so I’m not going to think about that. Oki, Oki, need da sleep, bye.

Day 7: // 11/5/16.

3 more days! Ahh, goodness me! I’m so nervous, so so so nervous. Goshgoshgosh, ok ok, breath. Breath. Need to calm down. Ok, remember what I have to do, fix the problem, copy the map in my book and figure out how to leave. Kk. ok. Welp, I might update this later on in the day cause I’m bringing this book. See ya.

- 7:15 am -

Map here:

(This took like 20 mins to draw and I'm happy about that cause I can’t waste any more time.) Oh, and I think I know how to shut down the generators for the amount of time I need, or perhaps even longer. This day is turning out amazing already.

- 7:57 am -

Da Da Da Daaaaa! I wassssss rightttttt.  Haha yes, I am so happy right now, I fuckin managed to fix the problem and I can now turn it off for 25 mins. Oh, you don’t know how fuckin happy I am right now. But no celebrating yet, I still need to find a way out, so bye.

- 5:28 pm -

Hi, I’m doing paperwork but I’m bored so I’m going to write here for a while so, yea. I did it, I found a way to escape but this isn’t going to be easy. N̶o̶t̶h̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶i̶s̶ ̶e̶v̶e̶r̶ ̶e̶a̶s̶y̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶m̶e̶.̶ ̶ ̶ ̶N̶e̶v̶e̶r̶.̶ I decided to try this attempt on day 9 instead of waiting till day 10 when they come back because I just really wanna play it safe. I feel like they will expect me to try something on that day, so why not surprise them on day 9. Ok so here’s the plan.

Plan:

  • Midnight on day 9
    - break all the cameras in my facility, take all the necessary items that I need for this, I hope, last escape attempt, then sneak into the maintenance room
    - shut down all the alarm systems so that they, the humans, can’t get any signals when I shut down all the generators.
    - After all, I need to find a way to break the Ms defeats off my frickin neck without killing myself. (and yes, It’s on my neck because when they first put it on me, they had it on my arm and when it’s on my arm I could just cut it off, escaping the magic suppresses.) They were horrified the first time but after finding out that I couldn’t really die, they only worried about me escaping. Let’s just say after trying it 3 times they changed it to my neck. That at least stopped me from escaping. Let’s just say it’s now like a fuckin collar on me.
    - If I successfully break the damn thing off my neck then I would shut down all the generators, at last, starting my timer.
  • Next, I run as fast as I can and get out of my domain to the human's place, where my exit would be, and then shapeshift into a small flying insect and fly away. Hopefully, without running into any complications.

So my plan. Ahh, I really hope this works. I worked so hard on this. Well, I need to go now, spend enough time on this. Prop not going to write in this until tomorrow sooo, night.

Day 8: // 12/5/16.

The second last day until the big day happens, I’m getting really nervous now, I think I’m just gonna lay it low today, follow the instructions given and then just figure something out in breaking the Ms defeat. Yea sounds like a plan. These two days are not gonna have that much writing in them as we are getting closer to the day and I really need to put it away soon. So I think this is going to be the last two days of writing in this book. (well unless it doesn't go as planned or if I made it out and I want to write on it again.) Who knows but wow, I can't believe this is happening. Welp, see you soon, got to go.

- 7:03 pm -

It’s tracking me. The fuckin device is tracking me. How the crap did I not know that, fricking hell. Ok, ok, I was seeing if I could break it in some form but then I had an idea.

Oh, why don’t I check The codes and machinery parts?

So I risked my own machine, (which only has 5%) to check the codes and scan all the parts. Ya know, to find out what even this thing is made of and looky what I found, A FRICKING TRACKING DEVICE. I also frickin found a shocking system, so that means if I try anything that could potentially damage this device, I get a high-frequency shock that could possibly ruin my attempt. Possibly. WHEN DID THEY EVEN ADD THAT. I mean, I don’t know what’s my hp at right now. Ha, the last time I checked was like when I wasn't even in this facility yet, sooo idk. I should check but I can only do that after I break the device off my neck. I basically have to play this off by luck. There are four things that could happen in this situation and that would be

  1. I break it off but die from the shock cause my hp is too low and losing my chance to escape.

  2. I break it off and get shocked but everything goes perfectly fine.

  3. I don’t break it off cause it’s too risky and try to escape, making the humans still accessible to me.

  4. I can’t break it off and can’t escape.

Well, going off my luck, it’s more likely to have option 1 or 4 to happen. I feel like even option 3 is too lucky for me. The only damn good thing I found out when I checked the code is that they connected it to the alert system. That mean’s when I break the alert system and then break the Ms defeat it won’t send a distress signal to them letting them know that the device is off me.

Idk if that makes sense but that made sense to me so that’s ok. Ha, why do I keep writing in this like someone’s going to read it?

I just have to wait. I̶’̶m̶ ̶s̶o̶ ̶s̶i̶c̶k̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶w̶a̶i̶t̶i̶n̶g̶,̶ ̶I̶’̶v̶e̶ ̶b̶e̶e̶n̶ ̶w̶a̶i̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶m̶y̶ ̶w̶h̶o̶l̶e̶ ̶l̶i̶f̶e̶.̶ Ok, I think that’s enough writing for today. The last day tomorrow, yay.

Second last entry - 12/5/16

Day 9 - day of escape: // 13/5/16.

- 3:00 am -

It’s 3. It’s the day. I’m going to do this right?

I woke up super early to write this entry cause I want to write the plan again. ( but shorter )

Plan:

  • Midnight today
    - break cameras
    - Grab items
    - sneak into maintenance room
    - shut alarm systems
    - break Ms defeats or not.
    - shut down the generators
    - And run.

Ok, ok got it down. This is way shorter and I really don’t know if I should break the Ms defeat or not. I will see what’s the situation like when I get there.

- 5:10 am -

I really can’t believe this is happening today. It feels unreal. I don’t know if I can do this…

- 5:20 am -

No.
I can do this. I will do this. I actually feel I can do this, It’s going to work. I swear on it. I am going to follow the list for day 9 but skip the injection part cause I need to be in the best shape for this. I have to. I am going to stop writing in this book real soon. I love writing everything I thought into this book. This is what kept me sane for this attempt to even happen. I am really going it miss this. Ha, wow this is actually getting me emotional, heh haven’t felt that in a while. I’m really excited, I haven’t seen the outside for so long.

I have to stay positive, anything negative can f me up. I can do this.
For Mithvs.
For them.
For us.

For me.

Chapter Text

The clock struck 12. It’s time.

Taking my notebook, I placed it down into my pocket. I looked at the old blue scrappy blanket. It undoubtedly would not give me the warmth I needed to survive on the outside, but hey, it's something. It definitely would not fit in my hoodie pocket, so I quickly opened my machine and stuffed the old scrappy blanket in. Closing the machine, I looked up at the cameras. Welp haha, it's that time that I've been fucking waiting for since the beginning. Breaking the goddamn cameras. With a stab using my tail the lends shattered. Wrapping around the camera I pulled it off the wall (I had to, that made me feel great), First step was done. Shifting into something smaller, I left my cage and travelled to WM where all my weapons were there. Entering I took a few of my weapons. I hope these weapons can help me, I really do.

Leaving, I went straight to the maintenance section. I logged on and started changing a few things so it could be even easier for me to escape. Ok, next step, I quickly got to the alarm system and disabled it. Alarm systems shut. I smiled. Now it's time to break the Ms defeats. It's going to be a difficult task. The few times I tried, it either killed me or just would not work. Well, this time it will be a full-on surprise for me. Touching the device on my neck, I started to feel if there were any weak or rusty spots that could help me break it in some sort of way. Sighing when I felt nothing, it left me no option but to go to a different approach, a more dangerous Approach.

I have to destroy the control system in the Ms defeat.

Ok, ok, hear me out. I only escaped once since I've been here, and that escape was the only one I managed to get Ms defeat off. Let's just say, I did a little study on the Ms defeat and it turns out that they used 7 thick needles to keep (the collar as I call it) secure, meaning that my neck was getting stabbed by 7 needles at all times. Oh, and I looked at the coding, it turns out the needles are taking a sample of my blood every 4 days, so they can see if the dose is functioning, and by their consistent instructions of telling me to keep injecting the dose, it's safe to say it's working. (I am still so confused about why they're making me tick the sheets off with my blood).

Ok ok, breaking the control system will let the seven needles release off my skin and get loose.

And that brings me to my next point. There is also a shocking system put in place, just in case I attack or, well, this. I need to somehow disable the shock from happening, which is... problematic. There is actually no indicator that there is a shocking device, so that's not helpful. No wire, no extra bulk to fit the electric machine in and even no lid of some sort to put and take off the electric device. I never tried to disable the shocks, I just let it happen and hopefully survive.  There is honestly nothing I can do about this. I can't turn it around to get a better look cause of the needles, can't just randomly stab it (That's a totally bad idea) and all the other ideas won't work either. I sighed, I guess the only thing I can do is just let it happen and give my best shot of surviving.

The people in this facility don't know this but since now all resources are running low and everywhere and everything is shit, It implies everything isn't gonna work as well as it used to. That makes electrical devices less accurate and decisive in their calculations, meaning that the shock rates aren't stable enough to keep them at one altitude and vary between them. Sometimes it gives a higher altitude than usual, and sometimes it gives a less altitude. It doesn't really have an order to it, It just... happens. This is good for me as it means I still have a chance. Taking a deep breath, I prepared for what was to come. I can only hope that it works. This is a chance opportunity. Raising my tail up, I quickly jammed my tail to the back of the collar splitting it in half. The shock started. Thinking fast, I Held my breath, ripped the collar off my neck with a large pop sound, and slammed it onto the concrete floor. Stumbling back I fell to the ground holding my neck. Hurts. Instantly I could feel a whole heap of magic coming back to me. It was so overwhelming, I couldn't help but vomit right there. Coughing my lungs out, I started to put my head against the wall.

That was not the best start. Taking my hands off my neck, I saw that it was covered with white. Great. Just great, I'm bleeding. Well, blood can't stop me now, I'm not dead so let's keep going all the way to the end. Standing up with my shaky legs, I walked back to the system. (almost falling again) Switching to the generator's network, I was ready to do this. I am going to escape this hell hole of a place. 25 minutes, let's go.

Closing off the generators, I quickly slipped out of the maintenance room. Turning left I found the door leading to the outside of the area open, which meant shutting off the generators worked. I quickly and Stealthily went into the long hallway to reach my next destination. Turning right, I reached another long hallway and going right again I encountered another short hallway. After all that, I finally reached the human domain. The big steel door was open and with that, I could see at least 4 humans running in my direction. Fuck! I quickly merged in with the walls, but I forgot one tiny, incy- wincy mistake. I was bleeding from my neck, and it was pretty severe. There was a trail of blood from where I first left all the way to where I left off. Frick. I'm so fucking stupid. Now instead of the humans going all the way back to the maintenance room to check what's wrong and see my vomit, they just see my blood here and now it's much harder to escape. Ahh, Crap. Usually, this wouldn't be an issue for me. There's also something else I've been hiding from the humans. I can merge into literally everything possible, except steel for some odd reason.

Anyways, meaning I would have to leave the safety of the walls to venture more.

"Shit! Subject D has left his cage. Dan go get more help and makes sure someone is at the exiting doors at all times. Liz and Cart, go and check the maintenance room and figure this out, none of the doors or alarms is working right now!"

"Right sir."

"Yes."

"Got it."

The humans started acting like ants scattering around. It was actually really amusing to see them this scared. While everyone was busy panicking, I turned into a fly and started leaving the room. landing on the ceiling, I watched as more and more people started gathering around and picking up weapons. They weren't kidding when they said they were trying to find me.

"INCOMING ZOMBIES!"

Looking around, I flew to wear I heard the voice. Examining the exit, I see many zombies casually walking in and invading the area. Lots of humans were screaming, some even going back to their rooms and locking the doors. Lots of gunshots were being fired from left to right. Heh, these humans are really bad at dealing with zombies. Looks like they don't even know where the weak points are, just shooting frantically. The number one rule of dealing with zombies when you don't have any escape routes is not to use a gun. Guns are super loud, it can risk luring other zombies to come and check out the noise. Not to mention other potential travellers and especially seekers (when I was still out in the wild, humans broadcasted their 4 groups, inputers, travellers, traders/scavengers and seekers (he he, more on that later)). They were actually doing much better now, considering how badly they began. More zombies came and better-aimed shots. I thought that was enough of wasting my time, so I started to fly off to the exit.

Making my way there, I saw a flying bullet coming at me. I shifted back to my original form, trying not to die as a fly.  I felt a shooting (Pun not intended) pain and fell to the floor, scraping my left arm. A gunshot hit me right in the stomach. I let out a weak scream. Bullets never used to be this painful, must have been the injection and everything else they did to me. Probably made me more prone to pain. Gunshots still continued. Something pressed against my back, letting a groan out, I looked up to see what it was.

"Oh, ho ho ho, look who we have here. Subject D, There you are. We've been trying to find you everywhere. Haha haha ha, now, What. Did. You. Do."

He stepped on my back harder after. Frick, what do I do? 15 minutes left. Crap crap crap crap. I can't die, I can't get captured, I'm so close.

"Not talking huh? Really bad move."

And then another bullet pierced my skin but this time my leg. Fuck!

"Nick, Tyler! Come here. Restrict him from escaping, no time to get another Ms defeat."

Two men started grabbing my arms and pulling them behind my back, my knees were still on the ground. My whole body was in agony. I need to escape.

"Now, are you gonna tell me what you did or do I have to do something else, 'cause you're not looking so hot there."

"Fu-"
No! Don't lose your temper. Don't lose your temper.

"What did you say, I didn't hear that."

"F-fudge cake, ya know, r-really craving for it."

"Heh, really. Well, how's about you tell us what you did, and maybe you'll get fudge cake."

12 minutes. Need to think fast. What can I do, what can I do? I'm bleeding a lot. How am I even alive? I can't even think. Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck. merge to F-floor, no steel, shift to something smaller, no dumb idea. Come on, think, think.

Wait! Zombies. Lure more zombies in. But how? What do zombies like again? Umm, umm... Magic! They love magic! Ok, ok, I can work with that. I just need a distraction.

"O-ok, you got me, I was trying to escape. I'll tell you."

I started telling them everything. I can't lie, it will sabotage my plan, so I'm not doing that. I'll deal with the repercussions later, for now, I just need to talk long enough so they don't notice anything. I shifted my hand to some creature that can put out magic. (Mithvs have all sorts of abilities, putting out magic means that the area you're in is filled with your magic, putting in magic is species or creatures that can't fill the area with magic, only itself) Still speaking in a moderately calm voice, I let my hand glow to enhance the magic in the area more. It hurts like a bitch but I can't make any sudden sound or else there gonna be suspicious. 8 minutes. Closing my sentence, I let out a breath I didn't even know I was holding.

"Umm, so you turned off of the 6 generators for 25 minutes, and how long has it been?"

"17."

"And you broke your Ms defeat."

"Yea."

"Yeah, ha, I don't think you gonna get that fudge ca-"

"HORDE! EVERYONE TAKE SHELTER! COMMANDER AUGUSTUS, THERE COMING YOUR WAY!"

Both nick and whatever the other guy's name was let go of me and started shooting at the zombies. I quickly shape-shifted my hands back and stood up. 6 minutes. I needed to go, Turning into a dragon I rushed to the door. I wasn't going to do the same mistake again. Turning around I used my last bit of strength and blew fire at my captor. After that was done, I went out the door as fast as I could. Flying out made me so relieved. I'm finally free. I flew up in the air, reaching the clouds so that no human nor creature could see me. Flying away from the facility, I told myself I'm going as far as possible for that damn place. A few minutes later I was feeling extremely tired, I couldn't even keep my eyes open. Swooping back down, I landed on the floor and turned into a gopher. I started to dig, so I could have a safe place to hide. Everything felt off. It hurts, It's painful and I'm tired. I couldn't dig anymore. Am I actually tired or is this another death for me? Everything hurts, I can't even think properly.

Everything hurts.

I... I hope...... I wake... up... tomorrow.

Chapter Text

(Scout’s pov (Zombietale sans))

Life has always been unfair for me, for my brother, and for my kind. I mean look, us, monsters have been stuck in the underground for centuries, and heck, That's not all. We had to collect 7 human souls in order to be free, And it doesn't help that over the years, fewer and fewer humans were falling and taking longer by the second. Once a human falls, it would take another 10 years before another one would. We were doing pretty good with souls at the start, having 3 souls within 20 years, but the other three souls took at least 160 years altogether. The last human that we needed came 20 years after the last, But it was different. The human kid, Frisk started to befriend everyone. Warming everyone's heart, even Asgore.

They were 8 when they fell and stayed with us for 16 years until monsters started realising we were quickly running out of resources in the underground. Asgore announced to the public that we only needed one more human soul in order to be free. Everyone knew what that meant, Frisk knew it too. Undyne didn't like the plan, but it was the only hope they had, without it, everyone would eventually die. Undyne wanted to be the hero that everyone believed in. Frisk didn't mind the monsters taking their soul, they knew this was the only option, but that didn't stop them from warning us, that the surface was a lot worst than the underground and they all can try finding resources somewhere else. (They knew that there was nowhere else to find resources but they really hated the idea of the monsters going top side) (And we really learnt that the hard way) All monsters understood the message that frisk was giving completely wrong (including me), and, I wish, we thought about it more. Cause after they died, everything went oh-so-wrong.

Frisk was papyrus' best friend, they did everything together. It was lovely seeing papyrus happy, but the moment Frisk died... Papyrus' soul cracked. It was the scariest sound I'd ever heard. I can't ever hear that sound again. I won't let it happen again. I'm not letting Papyrus die, no, never. I thought that was going to be the only bad news today, but woah-ho-ho, as soon as we broke the barrier, I knew what Frisk meant. The surface looked horrible.

"Brother, I think I know why human Frisk was so headstrong regarding to leaving the underground."

I looked at my younger brother's distant gaze, he looked so heartbroken, it made me heartbroken. That expression should not be on Papyrus' face.

"WHAT THE FUCK! ARE THOSE DEAD CORPSES COMING OUR WAY!"

"Z-zombies... T-that should b-be i-impossible!"

"Undyne! Help me protect our kind, we have magic, they got nothing over us."

"Yes, Asgore! Stay back, everyone."

"Why are there so many... Z-zombies was it?" (Toriel)

"Y-es."

"Why are there so many zombies coming our way."

"I... I think it's the barrier. Couldn't you guys feel it? There was a huge influx of magic when we broke the barrier and it probably travelled miles... Wait I think the zombies are influenced by the magic." (Sans)

"O-oh, oh no. T-that means... U-Undyne! Asgore! G-get away from t-the zombies! Magic-"

"AHHH, why is my magic not working on them!"

"There... Absorbing o-our magic... Everyone run! Magic doesn't do anything to these dead corpses!"

And that's when all hell broke loose, everyone was running, and Undyne and Asgore were trying to stop the horde as best as they could. Toriel went to help the little ones from running off. It was chaos. No one knew what to do. Some went back to the underground, some tried to leave the mountain (a few succeeded, many didn't) and the royals guards helped with pushing the zombies back.

One look at Papyrus, I knew what I needed to do.

"Paps, we need to go."

"But what about the others? We need to help them."

"It's dangerous paps and we really need to go, I'm sure the others can handle themselves."

Papyrus didn't answer for 2 minutes, I was starting to get worried but he faced me.

"Ok sans. Let's go."

I smiled and took papyrus' hand and teleported out of the scene.

We had escaped the zombies and I felt so relieved. I can see how relieved paps was as well.

"Hey, sans. W-what do we do now?"

"Heh, well we can't go back to the mountain, So the only thing we can do is keep travelling. Our priorities right now are to find shelter, food, how to deal with zombies, protection from the zombies and find what happened with the surface."

"Oh, that is a lot of priorities. Then what are we waiting for let's go. We have a lot to do.

"Yes, we do."

And that's when, Paps and I set off, to start our new future.
---
(10 years since monsters were free from the underground)

Today has been too long for my taste, and heck, it's not even night yet, and I already dealt with 15 zombies that crashed down pieces of the fence that papyrus painstakingly made a few years back. I had to reconstruct and attach the missing pieces of the fence altogether and gosh, that was so tiring. We really need to upgrade the fence, the job I did was mediocre at best, and it will probably last us 2 more days. Welp looks like another thing to add to my and pap's list of things to do. Speaking of Paps, he's been out all day, collecting supplies, doing runs for traders, and getting the parts I need for the machine. This engine, sigh, it's taking me forever to build. It's already been 7 Years since I started this project and it's only 3/4 done. I built this machine to, hopefully, help us to get out of this fucked up world. I really don't want Papyrus to live like this for the rest of his life.

But no worries, I don't have to wait long, a couple of months more and this darn thing will be ready to go. Just thinking about it made my eyes water. We can finally live a normal life again and experience the surface normally. Sniffing, I wiped my tears on my sweater and got up. I've been working on the machine for 7 hours today, I think it's time for a break. Leaving the garage, I went out and started to patrol and see if there were zombies or any intruders around. Papyrus should be coming back in 4hr, gosh, as soon as he comes back, I'm going to sleep, I haven't slept for at least 3 days. Hahaha, I got really busy. Nowadays people and monsters don't really sleep for long, there is like no time for sleep. There are so many things to do, even at night. It's just the norm now.

Heh, I remember there was a time when I would sleep until 1 pm, and I still wouldn't get out of bed. Papyrus would have to drag me out every time. Heh, those were good times. Now you can't be sleeping in, be lazy or be picky because you can end up dead by having these traits. It will be over soon.

Little did I know, I was going to eat my words in an hour or two. (Sorry Scout, you ain't getting that sleep too)

Chapter Text

(Sprout's pov)

Today's been exhausting so far.

After eating with my brother and giving him some time to sleep, I left to start the day of chores. I told Sans I would probably be home around sunset, if not later. The first time I did this sans freaked out, he never let me leave the old small cabin we had back then, but after a while sans realised how important it is to split the work. (The whole two years of that Fiasco, sans was so burnt out. I finally managed to get him to let me go and help him.) Now I go every week, but sometimes, it's just so exhausting and the only thing that I can do is keep going, you know for our sakes. So usually the first stop is mount Ebott, the place we lived our lives every day (I wish I could go back to those times). This is where I do all the chores that Gerson wants me to do top side. He doesn't like going topside and said the underground was much better. I can't entirely agree with Gerson's statement. Nowhere is safe now, they are all surrounded by zombies and I do admit that Gerson surely does give me good trades) Second, I go scavenging for the parts sans needs, anything we don't have or restock up on. This is a tedious task, every time it takes about 3 to 4 hours to go outside and attempt to stay quiet as achievable just to check a house that looks decent enough only for it to have 6 zombies waiting inside for me to invite myself to their little party. It's always fun.

The third thing I did was to drive my precious motorbike 40 miles to the northern beaches (The closest to us) to gather the equipment and resources we need. After that, I would also need to trade with the locals and trade markets with a lot of greedy humans and some monsters that have made it passed the zombie invasion 10 years ago. They will have things that are amazing, a game changer for me and sans, but the bad part is that they are super expensive to trade. I don't mean like the money sense, (No one cares about money anymore, It became useless even before we made it to the surface) I mean like the valuable things. Resources to build, resources to store, resources to cook, resources to grow, you know, all of that stuff, those are what is considered money in this age and time. The numeral of things they want me to give them for just one item is ridiculous. You just really need to play your cards right at all times, any slip-up could cause a major failure. (Learnt it the hard way) after collecting everything I need, I would have to drive another 40 miles back meeting a few zombies along the way and stop by the trading post (20 minutes away from our home) where I go see my first-ever adult human friend (whom I met on the surface). Entering the post, everyone immediately stopped what they were doing and started staring at me. Some waved, some said hello, and others just stared, probably never seen me before.

"Nice to see your ugly face here again."

I smiled as I turned around, I knew exactly who that was.

"Nice to see you still have that attitude."

"Yeah, I mean without it, I'd be dead."

"dead of boredom."

"Hahaha, very funny. Now come on, my office."

I rolled my eyes, I started to follow him, trying to make a spark of conversation come to life. Asking about his world, asking about trades, stocks, dramas and his kids, all of it was valid. He just scoffed. I know and he definitely knows that he can't say no to me, we are joined at the hip. (Ahhh, Sans is influencing me, curse him) So he started to answer all my questions. This became a back-and-forth conversation until we got to his office.

Two figures swiftly moved out of the door and tackled me to the ground. I let out a breathless oof and stared at the two gremlins who dared to tackle me down.

"AHH, OH NO, skeleton down, what would I do?!"

The two kids started giggling hard, of course really proud of their beat down.

"Haha, we got you mister Papyrus!"

"You truly did, now how am I going to recover from this."

"You won't!"

"Ohh, GASP!"

"Now, now kids, I assure you did a really good job, but you can give mister papyrus are big welcome inside, we have some stuff to discuss."

"OK!"

As both of the kids scrambled up, they started to run inside. Nyeh, heh, heh, still as energetic as ever. Evander's kids are his pride and joy since human children are hard to come by in today's society, (even for monsters) I would like to think that everything still has good inside them shown by the national law that Human children and pregnant women are protected at all costs. (Though I don't know why they didn't allow monster children and pregnant monsters to be protected as well (though there is only a few if not, no monsters that are pregnant at this time, I don't know about humans but we monster would never want to subject children to this horror)) Evander has a boy and a girl. Chaya, her name means life, and she is eleven years old and Ravi, His name means sun, and he is eight years old. They are adorable.

"Alrighty, so, first, do you have anything you would like that you don't have already."

"Umm." Getting the thing I need out of my bag, I asked if he had any of these types of cables and wires and did he have any power packs.

"Ahh, umm, how many do you need?"

"Probably 3 Sets of eight or ten would be great, but the power pack like two."

"Well, have some good and bad news. The good news is that we have plenty in stock of those cables and wires right now, the bad news is that we only have 4 power packs but 3 of them are already commissioned by someone already."

Ahh, that is not bad, still got a majority of the things sans wanted.

"That's ok, well what payment would you like for 3 sets of either eight or ten cables and wires and the power pack."

"Umm, don't know, don't give me anything too heavy. You're a friend, just play with the kids for a while and that should be payment enough, I know how much they like you."

Evander is really too nice to me, well that and also he only allows a few people to play with his kids like this.

"OK, I will gladly do that!"

"YAY, more fun with mister Papy!!!"

"Yes, haha, ok, there is one more thing... Please stay away from the eastern coast for now, there are riots going on there, and it's not safe, I heard a lot of monsters are being killed. I know if they come here they won't mess with you, cause if they do, they know they would have to deal with me and they need trades, but if you go there by yourselves I know they won't hesitate to kill you. So please be careful."

"Yes, I will, I won't go there, the only time I need to go there is summertime anyway."

I felt so happy. I love this relationship I have with Evander. I don't know what I would do without him and sans of course.

"Alrighty! Who wants to play, chase the two gremlins."

As I started standing up, the two kids started cackling in laughter and running out the door.

"Well looks like you have two flashes to catch."

"As if, they are not that fast."
---

"HOW ARE YOU OVER THERE ALREADY!!!"

"PPfffffff- HAHAHAHA, Yeah, sure, not that fast."

"Oh, shut up."

"Told ya there they're fast."

"Ummm...."

"Mister pap is giving up soooo fast, not like you!"

"Oh... It's on."

The next hour was full of shrilling laughter, teases and frickin Evander laughing his butt off. I swear Chaya and Ravi are shortcutting just like Sans. One minute I see them and am about to sneak up on them, but the next second their gone and I hear them in a building 5 minutes away. How the frick do they do that. It's kinda freaking me out. I collapsed, they are too fast for me, and Sans thought I was fast. They are gonna make Sans run for his money. Huffing and trying to get my breaths together, the two gremlins finally show up.

"Awww, you're done," Chaya whined.

"YES, I am done, you children are too fast for your own good. I am simply not fast enough." I tried to wheeze out.

"Nah, don't beat yourself up paps. Have you seen yourself, you're as fast as the wind!"

I looked up at Evander and smiled, I gave him my thanks as he helped me up.

"Yeah, faster than anyone I've seen."

I smiled even more as I flicked Ravi on the forehead.

"Yeah, apparently not as fast as you. NYEH HEH HEH HEH HEH! Well as much fun this is, I think I would need to go, it's pretty late and my brother would be worried sick if I stayed any longer."

"Awww, do you have to go!!!!"

"Yea, we were having so much fun!"

as the kids finished each other sentences, I was about to reply until Evander beat me to it.

"Now, now kids, a fun time will always have to end but that doesn't mean we won't have it next time. Papyrus would have to go home before it's too late. He played with you for a good two hours."

"Two hours is not enough!!"

"Alright, alright, it is ok Ravi, how about this, next time when I come, I will bring some of my brownies with me."

"YES, YES, YES!!!"

"A way to bargain with the kids."

"Yeah, yeah, I know. The great papyrus is great with bargaining."

"He sure is."

"Well, I think it's time for me to leave. Thank you for all your help."

"No worries see ya next time."

"BYE, MISTER PAPY!"

"BYEEE!"

Putting my helmet on and waving to the family, I drove off and started my 20 minutes back home. It was peaceful and quiet, with no zombies, no danger, just feeling the breeze of the wind. The sky wasn't pitch black yet but definitely black enough to turn the flashlight on. The rest of the way back did not resolve in any complications. Back then I was so scared of someone stealing my bike as we heard a lot of travellers and scavengers breaking into people's bases and stealing things, so Sans decided to make the big oak tree a storage unit, he hollowed out enough of the inside to fit my bike and other stuff that needed to be protected. The tree still looked normal, it just had a bark door that blended so well with its environment. (we even put it like a two-minute walk from our home) Closing the door I started walking back home. I can't wait to tell Sans how much fun I had with the little humans-

My eyes widen as I started at our home, everything thing was trashed, The fences were all destroyed, most of the windows were broken, the house had some newly formed cracks and the door was even falling apart, half of it was off its hinges. Dropping everything I unsheathe my swords and ran inside as fast as I could. Please, don't be what I think it was, I can't do this without him, oh please, please, please.

"SANS, ARE YOU THERE, ARE YOU HURT, WAS THERE A HORDE, WHERE ARE YO -"

"Heh, heh heh heh, hey Paps, Welcome back."

"...
...
...
...
I didn't know we were having guests over, 16 of them... LET ALONE SKELETONS?!?!?"

"Heh, heh, Surprise."

(Sprout's pov)

...

"Oh, hi other me! You are just in time! Your brother was about to explain this whole zombie apocalypse situation! Care to join us?"

Leaving my brother's sheepish gaze, I stared at what I assumed was my counterpart. He had my old outfit on before... Anyway, looking at him was like looking at a completely different person. I couldn't believe I use to look and wear things like that. I would be caught dead If I was wearing that now. I looked too nice for someone who has lived ten years in this zombie apocalypse.

"...What. The. Fuck." This was not what I thought I would come back to.

"Language! No need for profanities!"

My eyes now landed on the blue bandanna skeleton. I blinked several times to see if what I saw was actually what I was seeing (damn that was a loaded sentence) and fortunately? Unfortunately? It was. I couldn't hold it any longer and started laughing.

"What are you laughing at, huh?"

Another counterpart of me, wearing an orange hoodie said in an unhinged voice. It was probably the bandanna's brother.

"Sorry, sorry. It's just, never in a million years, I thought I would see my brother wearing that. He is usually dressed like a grandma, or like a very scary boot soldier, or somehow both at the same time." Looking at my brother to see his reaction but all I saw was those tired eyes.

"Haha, very funny, paps. Now, where have you been, I thought we agreed that you wouldn't come home late again, and this time you're a whole hour late. Plus you know how dangerous it gets at this time." Ahh, crap, yeah, I am a whole hour late.

"Ahh, well, you see Evander got me to play with his kids in exchange for- Wait, no, no, no. This isn't about me. We were talking about this whole situation. Care to explain why there are sixteen other skeletons in our house and why the house is so trashed? Cause if I remember correctly when I left this morning there were only two of us and the house was clean." I scolded my brother for trying to change the subject.

"Heh, looks like someone's in trouuuuuble." The red golden teeth sans lookalike helpfully inputted.

"Sigh*, the machine went boom, along with the house and then after that a horde." He also helpfully explained.

"And I assume when it went 'boom', our counterparts came. And, pray tell, how did this happen? " I said in a dead tone voice.

"I... have no idea. But the horde came cause of the loud noise." Great.

"what about the setback?"

"5 to 15 years."

"FIVE TO FIFTEEN WHAT! ARE YOU SERIOUS?!"

"Hey. Keep your voice down. We don't want another horde now, do we? Plus, it's not like I wanted to bring all of you guys here. We were trying to leave our own hellscape alright. That machine was supposed to bring us somewhere safer, not bring people here." Sans sounded so tired.

"Well, whatever you did must have malfunctioned and now we're here, but in my accord, we are not staying here for more than 5 years let alone 15. So, brother, check the machine and fix it. And you." He started to point at my brother. "Get the parts needed to fix this or else."

I really didn't appreciate people trying to threaten and demand something from my brother, so before anyone else could speak I unsheathe my sword and pointed it at the other red sans.

"That is way too far. Look, you are in my house, my territory, my universe, and if you want to talk to my brother like that, sure go ahead, but just letting you know, I don't go easy. I also don't know if you know this, but we are experts here. You just got landed here, so if you want to chance to actually survive and go back to your world no matter how long it takes. Then don't threaten my brother. And parts don't fall from the sky, well not here at least. You have to earn it, make connections, use your strength and play your cards right."

The room was silent, everyone was staring at me. Some looked shocked, some looked amazed, and some looked weirded out. My brother was proudly looking at me and at that moment everything felt ok again.

"Ok, now that's out of the way. Continue your explanation while I get started on cleaning the house. Keep your voices down please, We really don't need another one, especially around this time. Oh, and Sans... My Sans, after this, go to sleep, don't think I didn't notice." Then I quickly put my sword back in its original place, leaving the group of skeletons to deal with the situation and went off to first fix the fences.

...
Sans' pov (Scout)

As I watched my brother leave. I realised how much we have overcome in these 10 years, and just how much we have faced. Yet, even through all of that, he is still the Papyrus I raised back in the underground. I guess now, just a little bit tougher. Looking back at the other Sans' and Papyri (Huh, that is a nice word to call them.) I was ready to have a long ass explanation.

"Ok, sorry about that, my brother is really overprotective. Heh, after the barrier broke nothing was easy. Anyway, if you guys have to stay here for a period of time in my universe, we really need to get nicknames."

"Oh, oh, do not fret, other me, you see, this isn't our first time staying in another universe, before you, it was classic's. So we already have our nicknames sorted. Meaning you guys can stick with sans and papyrus. My name is Blue by the way." Blue thoughtfully added.

"So, this isn't your first rodeo huh?" I questioned.

"Yep, Classic was trying to get his dad outa the void, the machine malfunctioned and then brought us one by one or should I say two by two there. We decided to stop fiddling with it one to two years ago since too many of us were coming out of it. I mean I don't think it is a bad situation in staying. A lot of us never saw the surface before, well actually all of us, well, except for Classic and Clementine."

"Ahh, right, thanks uhh..."

"Red, names Red."

"Ok thanks, Red. Before we get to the explanation how about we all introduce ourselves, since, well, you know. You guys are gonna stay."

"And I wonder whose fault is that."

"Yes, I'm aware, now name?"

"*Scoff*, You lower being can call me Razz, and this is my brother, Gold." Looking around Razz, I saw his brother, Gold, sitting on our half-broken sofa, eyes closed. Anyone from here can quickly tell that he is obviously not napping (well, maybe not some of the humans).

"I am the great and terrible Edge, brother of this bag of bones." Edge then started pointing at red, he then gave a small wave.

"You have heard my brother many times over this conversation, I am the great Clementine, but you can all me, Clem.

"I'm Stretch."

"Yes, and I'm his brother (though you probably already know by now). The one that helped you in protecting your house is Merlot and his brother is Cin or Cinnamon, whatever you like to call him."
Blue jumped in. I stepped back a little. I am not really used to seeing someone this energetic in a long while.

"I am sorry for Blue's excitement, he is just a very energetic person. I am Wine. Thank you for letting us stay here until we figure out the situation. My brother, Coffee is over there next to Gold."

Next to Gold? I didn't see anyone next to him. Looking back at the sofa. I took a closer look, and right there was a skeleton wearing a hoodie and yellow pants. That's why I couldn’t see him the first time, not because I wasn't looking hard enough, but because he looked so small and scared, half of his body was being blocked by Gold's body. I gave him a little wave, but that just seemed to make him hide even more. I really have to think about what his job would be. It looks like Coffee would run away at the slightest noise.

"I am Black. This is my brother, Mutt."

"Sup."

Looking down, I saw another skeleton sitting on the floor next to the sofa. Geez where are all these skeletons coming from?

"Welp, last but not least, us. I'm G."

"And I am Aster nice to meet you."

"Well, nice to meet all of you, I'm so sorry about bringing you to my universe, I honestly don't know what happened. Gonna try and fix it as soon as possible." I tried to explain my predicament, I couldn't help but feel frustrated. This wasn't how I had envisioned the future. I thought in a few months papyrus and I would be seeing cities with people, infrastructure standing tall, animal life thriving, and people having fun, not the same damn thing I've been seeing for 10 years.

Fuck the dead people scattered on the floors.
Fuck the broken windows and overgrown grass.
Fuck hunting all the animals I see.
Fuck seeing humans and monsters killing each other. (whether it be from the other race or their own kind)

Welp, I just have to keep going.

"*Scoff*, You better fix it. It's you why we are here in the first place." Razz started shouting.

"Razz!" Blue shouted back.

"What! It's true, I don't wanna be here longer then-"

"That's enough. Razz, shouting your insults is not going to help you, or us, go home any faster and, Blue, I know you're just trying to help, but can you please lower your voice? I am so sorry about Razz's behaviour, he is always pissy like this. I swear, it's like taking care of a bunch of teenagers. This is not your fault. I would do the exact same thing if I was in your shoes. I mean who wants to stay in a world full of people trying to kill each other whether it be alive or not? You are not alone many of us have a history with machines, and we can help you build. " Wine quickly took control of the situation and shut it down immediately.

That is awfully nice of them...

"You can't just boss me around like that."

" Razz, he definitely can, his like, what, 2 years older than all of us. Come on, it's not worth it." Classic then added to mediate the situation.

"Actually 3." Wine then (rather smugly) said.

Razz then mumbled a number of curses and plopped himself into a chair that was surprisingly still standing up. As the commotion died down, I turned to Wine with the most grateful smile I could do at this state.

"Wow, thank you for handling that so smoothly," I said.

Wine gave a modest nod, trying to look mature, but I could tell they were smug about resolving the situation quickly and efficiently under the maturity. Wine seemed like the person to know exactly what to do in all situations, and I kind of envy that.

"Ok, now that's all out of the way, let's get back to-"

"Wait. We still do not know what to call you guys." Blue asked.

"Ahh right."

"Did I hear something about names?" Papyrus asked, he probably just finished fixing the fence.

"Paps, you're back, and yeah, it turns out they already have nicknames, so it's just us now, and I was just checking if you wanted nicknames?" I started to explain, I would probably catch him up later when we are in our rooms.

"OOOoooo. Yes, I do want nicknames. Chaya and Ravi actually gave us nicknames a few days ago but I guess I forgot to tell you. Ravi suggested Scout for you and Chaya suggested Sprout for me. Isn't that cute?" Papyrus started to gush about his human friend's kid. Heh, I do have to admit, that is pretty cute.

"Ha, yeah, that is pretty cute. Heh, well, I guess that is our names."

"Who's Chaya and Ravi?" Red questioned.

"Ahh, don't worry about it for now. Maybe Paps, uhh, I mean Sprout, can tell you at the dinner table. Actually, it's getting pretty late and we still need to clean up the garage and all the downstairs floors that got affected. So I guess we can discuss this at the dinner table. Sprout, do you wanna get started on the dinner? Ok, everyone let's get started," I explained to everyone.

"OOoo, OOoo, Can I join the cooking!" Blue excitedly asked.

" Inside voice please, and yes, you can join me in cooking, but only you, I really don't need four other people in the kitchen with me. Don't worry if anyone else wants to cook with me we can make a roster."

With that, all the people that looked desperate to cook sighed in relief. Alright, now it was time to clean. Everyone was assigned jobs; Cin, Clem and Edge were in charge of taking care of the living room. Black, Razz and Wine were in order of the entrance area. Mutt, Gold and Coffee were to sort out living arrangements upstairs (thank goodness this house has 8 rooms (We are so lucky to find this house). Merlot insisted on checking if the outside was safe, so G and Aster went with him. Last but not least, Red, Classic, Stretch and I checked the garage to see if we could salvage any of the parts and clean off all this mess.

Fortunately, some important parts stayed intact as well as some parts that are easily replaceable but it's better to have it than not to have it. Unfortunately, many parts did not make it. Seeing my machine broken to pieces after 7 years of constant construction really hurt.  All of the days and early mornings spent tinkering with the wiring, the countless upgrades, and the endless hours of troubleshooting all gone with no wink of sleep at night. 7 Years. wasted. *sigh*, All I can do is rebuild it, and maybe it will be better than before. I mean the maths work out, the more people you have on a project the better, right?

We started to put everything in separate boxes. They asked me why I didn't throw away the broken things, and I just told them what anyone in this world would say. " Why would I when it's still useful." That shut them up pretty quickly. Not long after Sprout announced that dinner was made. We all went upstairs.

" I think we are six short on chairs." Sprouts pointed out.

" Ahh, we are? Don't we have that exact amount in the broken-down car?"

" Oh, yes, we do, I forgot about that, I will tell Blue right away." Sprout then walked away.

" Heh, why do yer have so many chairs? There are two of you?" Red question.

" I dunno, I guess the owner before us used to really like chairs, or had a lotta people living here. Sorry about the food. It's probably gonna be little since, well, you know, we weren't really expecting visitors and usually the food portions are for two people not, well another 16, so sorry."

" You sure do apologise a lot, it's really ok, like what Wine said, I think everyone would be doing what you are doing at this state, even if some of them don't act like it," Stretch added for the first time since his introduction.

" Heh, yeah, sor- yeah, I'm just pretty tired that's all, and I get that, malfunctions happen."

As we made it to the table, we all started to sit down.

"This is ridiculous, what, are you trying to feed a bunch of dogs?!" Edge started to argue.

"I am so sorry, we told you. We weren't expecting company. All this food here was meant for a week for us. I'm sorry you have standards, cause even if we try, we can't. So now tomorrow, I'll have to figure out how to scavenge for a whole week's worth of food just in one day." Sprout argued back.

"Well then, I'll come with you. I'll show you how easy is to get food." Edge stated rather authoritatively.

"Edge, stop that immediately." Edge started to glare at Wine as he was scolded by him.

"No no, it’s okay, at least that brings us to the next point. Edge, you can come with me tomorrow, as for the others we all need to assign you guys a job. I’m sorry, but you can’t live here unless you do something for the house, if you don’t, then it doesn’t matter about where you came from or how it was our fault for pulling you here. We would all be dead. We can discuss the details tomorrow, but everyone needs a job. Just like how I can’t scavenge for eighteen people, cook and take of the house when I come back, my brother can’t build the machine, take care of the house at mid-day, Patrol at night and make our tools for eighteen people. So, I hope you really understand." Sprout explained to the whole group of people.

"Yes, sprout. We understand. Right." Everyone nodded at Wine's definitive voice. "I’m so sorry that my ... Alternates, is making such a hassle. "

"It's fine, now let’s talk about the apocalypse. All of you guys should know, as I stated before magic doesn’t work on zombies. They actually absorb it, like some sort of food. Making them more powerful. There are different types of zombies; Human zombies, Mage zombies, (unfortunately) Monster zombies (they're not that common though) and the most common Mithvs zombies. I assume you know what mages are, right?"

I started talking as everyone nodded at my question.

"Mithvs are all the other categories that don’t fit into other species. For example, species like Hybrids, Demons, Mythical Creatures, Ghosts, etc. Don’t worry, there aren't Mythical Creatures or Ghost zombies lying around. The only species that actually turned, are Hybrids. They are more powerful than Mages but at the same time, kind of the same. Mages are just humans with powers, but Hybrids are creatures with powers. Some may look like humans, but they’re not. They are the ones that consume the most magic out of the zombies, Monsters come in seconds, but then and again, as I said, they're not common. If you see a bloated zombie. Run. They can explode. (Authors note - Yes, I did get inspired by Last of Us... shush) This is why you guys need to know how to use weapons. That is what I know. We don’t know a lot, since we have only been on the surface for 10 years, but, what we do know is necessary. Got it."

Everyone nodded again.

"Okay now that’s out of the way let’s start eating." Sprout happily cheered.

After we finished eating. Mutt, Gold and Coffee, then started to tell everyone their rooms. They stated since there were eight rooms, two were already taken, (One by Sprout and my room and the other room was a workroom) meaning there were six rooms left. They decided that two out of the six rooms should have two people and the rest should have three people. I’d given them time to figure it out and after a while (with much-heated debate), the rooms were sorted out with; Clem, Edge and Wine being in one room, Mutt, Gold and Coffee in another room, then Raz, G and Aster, Blue, Stretch and Black, Classic and Red and Merlot and cin.

After that, my brother insisted I go to sleep and Merlot and G kindly offered to do the nightly patrols. I couldn’t resist my brother, so I agreed. All I can say is that I am glad that the day is finally over.

Chapter Text

(Scout's pov)
...

It's crazy how things can happen without any prompting, like woah, ha, look at that, there are 16 odds skeletons that just popped out of nowhere that exploded our whole garage. Then suddenly they become your closest and new family... Huh, well, would you look at that? Yeah, sure we weren't a family right away, there were oh so many fights between us and ourselves. (I guess they didn't get along even before they came to ours).

It was getting so bad that the fences didn't even need to get fixed for four weeks, as zombies kept breaking it down with the amount of noise we were making. I mean anyone, alive or not could've walked straight into our territory and probably startled as really bad and started a massacre. That was also about the same time my mental state got really bad, well, I wasn't really in a stable state to begin with but nevertheless, after the machine malfunctioned and the comments that started from Razz, Edge and sometimes Black really got to me, to the point all I did was work for hours, and eventually went on my own runs to get parts, which was a really bad idea from my end, since, I was operating on like six hours of sleep for that whole week, and I couldn't really think properly, and thought if I'd died, I didn't care.

Of course, Paps noticed and was reasonably concerned, practically the whole house could feel the tension and depression at that stage, stopping the fights completely. The last straw broke when I finally collapsed from exhaustion after being awake for two weeks on eight hours of sleep when I got back from a scavenge. I never want to scare Paps like that ever again. I was on my deathbed, having a really bad fever and losing too much HP. I think that was the moment everyone realised that if we had a bad relationship with each other things could end up terribly bad. So, after some scolding and reprimanding from Wine and Sprout, giving them more work than the others on purpose for more than three months, and some team-building exercises from Swap and Clem, that everyone must do, we were finally in the right direction, actually bonding with each other. Plus, this is the chillest we have seen Razz and Edge interact with each other. Heh, maybe they finally understood the situation. My relationship with them has also changed for the better. It took me eight weeks to recover from that situation, and now they all stalk me around, taking turns to make sure that I don't do anything reckless, Edge telling me that "If you do anything stupid then, I'll kill you myself". Telling me to also sleep for a good amount of time, no matter how much arguing I do, "I haven't done that for so long and, plus, it wasn't for that long the last time", or insisting that, "I've done this for thirteen years and I haven't bit the dust yet". Alas, it didn't work and made everyone even more concerned for me. It feels so foreign you know. Having so many people caring about my wellbeing. When the barrier broke, Paps and I were practically alone. Most of our friends died from that attack and for ten years we had to fend for ourselves.

Escaping was the hardest and best choice I'd ever made. I've never told Paps this, but, I saw how Undyne died. Murdered right in front of my eyes, eaten like she was swift cheese. Her blue skin was being torn off her body like it was some inconvenience, and oh gosh...The dust. There was just so much of it. I don't wanna know if she died right there or slowly and painfully got turned into a zombie, either way, that was the moment I realised that life was never gonna be the same, and it wasn't. It was hard and gruesome, to defend ourselves for that long, at this point. I'm just tired. But even with the other skeletons coming into our lives accidentally and terribly, things are finally changing for the better. Finally starting to look up for the first time in ages. Heh...Finally.

Now everyone has their jobs to do for the house and some may not like doing it all the time but it was actually working out. Classic and Red is the dedicated fishermen/foragers for basically anything that was edible and grew in the wild. Trust me when I say for several weeks they gave Sprout and me more poisonous ingredients than actual edible ones. I had to teach them basic knowledge about foods that grew in the wild. Which ones were poisonous, not poisonous, the ones that had to be grown for a certain time, and the ones that you can't take too much of or else it depopulates, etc. Basically everything. Soon enough they were heading in the right direction and started to bring more and more edible ingredients.

Now they have a notebook that records everything they learnt over the past few years so that it would be easier for them to remember and scavenge for. Sprout even found some books about mushrooms and other various foods in the wild which was perfect for them. They now really have a knack for fishing/foraging ingredients and that made me come to the realization why all those years ago Mutt, Gold and Coffee chose to group Classic and Red together. I always wondered why they didn't group them with their brother cause I would’ve chosen that brothers should always stick together. But now I finally see it, they practically act like an old married couple, teasing, and making each other laugh. Heh, but that would be weird if they actually were a couple... Thankfully they are not and just really good friends.

Edge, Razz and Black were the people who would go with Sprout to do more intense and harder scavenges. (Typically not food unless it was hard to find where we were stationed) Just trying to make life easier for everyone. They would find anything for the machine and make sure we have enough for the next winter. They would also insist on helping with the cooking from time to time as they were still salty that they weren't picked to be the designated cooks.

As time went by, we all realised that it was problematic to just scavenge with one vehicle as it meant only one person could come with Sprout. We needed more people with Sprout so that it would take less time to scavenge. We would need an escape vehicle as well in case anything goes wrong. So the search began, obviously the broken-down car wasn't an option as even if we did try to fix the thing, it would take too long and unnecessary materials would be wasted. it's easier just to try and find one and that was pretty difficult to find. We couldn't find anything decent and even the majority of components that were missing couldn't be found, but eventually, we found two motorbikes and a pickup truck. All of them were in decent shape and the motorbikes even worked. Black used to have a thing with fixing up broken parts of machines and loved reading and learning about cars. So when the opportunity struck to fix the pickup truck he took it. We gathered all the parts needed and let him do his magic. Thankfully he knew what he was doing and quickly finished it and got it working. Now we have more vehicles to add to the collection.

Aster and Cin were the people who usually hunted for live bait, using various traps like bear traps, body grip traps, glue traps, etc. Making more contraptions to help with the process. Animals are not too common to see nowadays especially with everyone trying to survive and the whole apocalypse thing. But the few that we do see and catch, Aster and Cin are skilled and get the job done efficiently. They also get a surprisingly fair amount. Besides helping to get live bait, they also make sure there is plenty of water for everybody and that it's purified so that it's safe to drink and use. Just so that no one can get diseases. Yeah, even though we're monsters, it doesn't mean we're immune to everything. Aster and Cin were the ones who travelled every day to the river to grab about 18, 10-litre buckets for everyone. Which also includes water for the washing that Wine does. Making and getting all the buckets by trading took a lot of materials but was necessary for survival.

Blue and Clem are usually the designated cooks of the family, to ensure that a minimal amount of waste is made. Being able to feed 18 people is really hard to scavenge for but we do manage. We all agreed that we should skip lunch cause it uses too many ingredients. I mean we can have lunch but most of us rather save it. It’s not like before Sprout and I ever had lunch. It was more like a snack, well snack for me as Sprout is usually out at that time. Besides being the designated cooks throughout the day they would be the ones who repair and build anything we needed. Stretch would also help along as apparently back when he was still in his universe, he started to learn woodwork. Carving literally anything. First starting off with pretty small things like animals, spoons and such. But after fifteen years of constant work, he began to build more unique and intricate things. I can say he's rather skilled. Most of the time they are the ones who would stay home (along with me).

Stretch as well as Wine and Coffee also started to go with Sprout to the Trade post where Evander and his kids are. Stretch, Wine and Coffee really liked Sprout's human friend. I've only visited Evander about 7 times over the 6 years we've known him. I don't think he's a bad character. He gives respect to both sides and can hate monsters but at the same time hate his own kind as well. A more neutral person. It's the actions you do that he will judge, not your race or ethnicity. Sprout told me that when hanging out with Evander he noticed that Wine was really good with Kids. Making them laugh, being patient with them, teaching them new games and a whole lot of other things, which makes sense. I mean he does act like the dad in the family, actually, he's more of a mother. Yep, definitely a mother-hen. Evander was so grateful to Wine as now there were more people who could play with his kids.

Speaking of Wine, he actually contributes in many ways. I think he does too much sometimes but he says he doesn't mind. He likes to sew which means he would fix and make new clothes for all of us, which does now extend to Evander and of course his kids, Chaya and Ravi. He also has hinted many times that he likes dress-making, and I think that's extremely cool. Ha, I actually would never believe that this stoic and classy version of me would like dress-making. He would also go out of his way and go with Sprout to scavenge from time to time. Usually, the ones he goes to are the 2 to 5-day trips Sprout occasionally goes to but since there are a lot more of us now, it's becoming more frequent. Like I said before Wine does all the washing. Clothes, plates and anything that comes home that looks unusable and smells really bad. I still think he does too much. He should really take a break.

Surprisingly, it was easier than I thought to find Coffee a job to do. It felt impossible back then since he was so skittish and jumpy and hiding himself behind people to look smaller. But as time went by he started to warm up. Though I haven't seen him say a word this whole time he has been here. It was kind of worrying and weird cause speaking usually is key for manipulation and bribery. After a bit, Wine explained everything to me and my brother that Coffee is mildly autistic. He can speak but prefers expressing himself by writing notes, only speaking to him and sometimes Gold and Mutt. Which is understandable.

It was actually Evander who considered Coffee for this job. One day when Sprout took Coffee and Mutt to the trading ground Coffee decided that he wanted to draw something on the wall cause it looked bland. Someone noticed that he was drawing and started to praise him for his art. Evander then encouraged him to keep doing what he was doing and start a store. I would actually never ever consider drawing as a job opportunity if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. Drawing has never been something people would trade for as it just seemed a waste of resources but ay, I guess I was wrong. The kids, adults, and other traders, all loved it. Sprout told me that people were saying how it brought light back into their lives. That's when he actually became the one who would bring the most supplies back home. Everyone praised him. Heh, I think he got too overwhelmed sometimes with all the comments as he started to pull his hoodie strings to close his hood up and cover his face. He started to do commissions at the trading post and eventually branched out to other places that were starting to hear about his art. Drawing pictures for children, adults, monsters, people who wanted artworks of loved ones who had passed, literally everything. But that's not the only thing he does with his talent for drawing. He also started sketching and drawing structures that we were planning to build in the near future.

Gold and Mutt usually hang out with Coffee, which is good cause Wine expressed how proud he was of Coffee for finding friends because back when he was in his universe he was shy and mostly stayed with Wine the whole time. But when they were not hanging out with Coffee and going with him to do his job, they were the ones down with me fixing the machine. full-time. Classic, Red, Stretch and G also come to help as well first finishing their jobs.

Now the nightly patrols are usually done by G, Merlot and me. It's usually calm, with only a few zombies here and there but in a few instances, we had some close calls where almost everyone had to help. Luckily, no one was majorly hurt that we had to amputate or kill them cause they got bitten.

They haven't encountered any Mithvs or monster zombies yet. That's a blessing. They are definitely not prepared for that. I probably have to give them a full explanation of all of the different zombie types there is. That would be very useful now finally after three winters of staying together. I didn't think it was necessary to explain back then since monster zombies aren't very common and Mithvs zombies are mostly populated in the eastern and southern coast and never really leave the territory unless a burst of magic is released. Humans probably already killed most of them if not all of them.

So yeah, over the years sprout and I have trained everyone on how to use more human weapons so they can protect themselves, and to never, I mean never in any circumstances use their magic. Using magic can cause zombies to get attracted and find you more easily by locating the energy. The only time you would want to use your magic is if you want to lure it to other people and fuck them up. But what I do find interesting is that teleporting is a different circumstance from all the other magic moves monsters have. Since magic energy can be sensed from the moment you summon it, till the moment you stop, it does what it's intended to do, disappear. To zombies, a spark of magic is sensed at the direct spot you started teleporting from and then just stops, giving no hint that you were even there in the first place. This means that teleportation is the only magic source you can use, too bad that I'm the only one who can use it. I don't even know if my counterparts can use it. Probably have to ask. Why haven't I thought about asking?

Heh, Let's just all hope that the machine is fixed in 5 years instead of 15, cause I don't think they would want to encounter anything worse than this. It's a big world out here and so many other humans we don't need to meet any time soon.

Chapter 10: Welcoming change

Notes:

-Author's note-
Im so sorry guys hahah. If you read my new revamp fic “Maybe One day”, I said I was back because I finished year 12. Than after that, I was radio silent for 3 months.

It’s been busy the past few months. Leaving the country, meeting family, waiting for my results, getting my results, finding a university, applying for university, also trying to find a job, I just didn’t have any time writing at all.

I really want to fix my posting schedule and I really hope that gets fixed this year! (Fingers crossed 🤞)

I’m not sure I really like how I wrote this chapter. I mean you guys get a lot of lore drop sooo that’s a plus I guess.

Anyways enjoy my mediocre writing.

Delta’s pov -

“Stupid humans. Stupid fucking humans. Why do they have to be so damn annoying, even to their own kind? Like, take a fucking pill.”

I offered them some nice sharp weapons, six HAND-made soaps mind you, and computer parts from my stash that were running low, yet they still couldn't provide me with what I wanted. You wanna guess why? Heh, because it wasn't fucking enough. I've seen others give the same amount and receive what they needed. Ugh, this is so damn bullshit. That's why stealing is a much easier option in my opinion. I really did try to be civil this time and go out of my way to be kind, but in return, I got nothing. Why am I even doing this in the first place, I mean, I have so much power in my hands, being the only Mithvs in the world that's not a flesh-eating parasite and also having the cure to this whole problem, honestly, I could just kill them and raid the whole post if I wanted to.

While that's an option, keeping a low profile is higher on my list of priorities. I'm not trying to go unnoticed for nothing. However, if they knew my whereabouts, it wouldn't be easy to catch me due to my shapeshifting abilities and being able to merge with objects. If I were to go and kill them, there would be a plethora of reasons why that would be a bad idea. For instance, I would definitely be outnumbered, and my ability to fight isn't what it was all those years ago. I will get hit and when I do, they're are gonna realise I'm not so human, with my white blood n'all. Even if I shapeshifted, the only thing that doesn't change is my blood. With that, I'll be the talk of the century and that is a walk-through into how I'm gonna get easily tracked by the facility. Yeah, it wouldn't be easy to catch me but eventually they will... it's always like that.

I did escape for a reason. I mean, the bizarre routine they subjected me to back when I was in the facility is definitely one of the reasons I left. Essentially, I did all their work while they sat back and watched the world burn. Heh, when the apocalypse began, everyone, including me, was confused. Who wouldn't be terrified to see their friends who were previously dead, alive again, but this time not truly themselves? Wanting to attack. Wanting to taste flesh. Wanting to hurt, to kill when they didn't even have the moral code to before. It was disturbing.

The facility initially tried to help the people around them by evacuating cities and nearby towns, but, that didn't help. They eventually approached the few remaining Mithvs and attempted to negotiate, even trying to apologise for the whole "trying to kill your species" incident. Although it was a poor attempt, we put our differences aside and tried to figure out how to stop the chaos together. However, we should- I should have known how Humans love to stab people's backs (metaphorically and physically) because, over the years, their intentions shifted more and more into greed. Maybe, it was never about saving people, saving lives. Maybe, this was their plan all along and for them to gain the power and resources in this fucked up situation.

Years went by before we finally figured out why the apocalypse began. It was due to the Ms. Defeat not doing what it was meant to. the stupid collars that were designed to destroy the Mithvs, created to trap our powers and control us.

well...I shouldn’t say “we” because that would be a stretch. The humans did jack shit. It was all on us to figure it out, and what did we get in return?

The blame, and getting tortured… Yep. Tortured.

With the shift of perspective from “Hey I tolerate you” to “Hey, you guys are the reason why the world's shit”, the remaining of us were either killed by the torture they endured daily, which took a massive toll on them and eventually killed us from the inside out, or with the overwhelming substances abuse they were doing to us. Injecting us to the point it left us feeling numb and paralyzed. Essentially, they starved us to death because, to the heavens above, they never even fed us properly.

Why am I saying “us”? Heh, well, the number of times that I have been killed by one of those instances is surprisingly high.

They were really shocked and happy when they realised that I was a tad bit different than all the other Mithvs.

Surprise, surprise, I can't die. That's just sadly part of my fate. All because of those fuckin' stupid pieces of...

Anyway, they had oh so much fun with that knowledge, and even more fun when I became the only Mithvs left. Crazy right?

To be honest, all the talk about  "We are doing this to save the world," "It's all for the benefit of the world," and "This is necessary" was complete nonsense. I don't even think they were trying to find a cure. They took my blood and injected me with who knows what, but they never did anything with it—at least, not to my knowledge. They could have discovered a cure already and distributed it to people outside the facility, but that never happened. Everything still looks the same out here, with dead corpses still roaming around.

If they had figured out a cure, they would have stopped torturing me, or at least they would have tried to create more samples by killing me repeatedly. The longest I could avoid them is about six months if that were the case.

But, if they did do that? I don't think I would want to avoid it. I would gladly die again and again if they wanted to make more cures for the world. Sure, I know that the earlier I come back after dying, the more pain I feel, but, hey, at least they are doing good by saving the world.

Ok, I'm not suicidal... Well at least not anymore.

I don't enjoy dying, but if it was for a great cause then, yeah. Heh, If my family heard me saying this, they would throw a fit and tell me that's not healthy, and well, that thought brings a smile to me.

Now where was I? Right! if I were to go on a killing spree, it would be a bust anyway since words spread like wildfire around here.

During a couple of months of my escape, I noticed a lot of things in my travels. First of all, there are things called trading posts, a market of some sort. People come, trade what they need, leave, and come back when they need it the most. They were scattered across a wide area, with no post located close to each other, well, certainly not within walking distance. It took me at least two weeks to walk from one location to another. I can confidently say that I've improved my navigation skills since then, it no longer takes me that long to travel between them. Secondly, monsters are free now. Apparently, they have been for 13 years. They really have unfortunate luck as instead of seeing the civilisation they once knew or were going to explore, they saw the dead roaming free, racism first hand and everything gone to shit. I wonder how they react when they can't use their magic. Come to think of it, I think the facility did discuss something about a magic surge at Mount Ebbot. Maybe that was something to do with the Monsters. That conversation did happen 13 years ago. finally, the well-known fact is that four established groups were created during the apocalypse: Inputers, Traders/Scavengers, Travellers and Seekers.

There is somewhat of a social hierarchy between the groups. It's well known that Inputers are the most respected out of the groups, yet if you are associated with them, you would be looked down upon. Look, I said somewhat of a social hierarchy, ok. It's because they go by their jurisdictions, and they do whatever it takes to get what they want. None of that listening to the rules that are socially known. They are also known to be brutal, kidnapping anyone they think is necessary to help in their survival. Always running in a dictatorship manner with one person always pulling the shots. Traders/Scavengers are usually the next in the hierarchy. They are the ones who are trusted the most. They were the economic part of society, and money was made useless as soon as the apocalyptics began. They were the people who wanted to help society and not just themselves. Building posts for people who are travelling by to stay, sell and trade anything with the others who decide to pass by. That doesn't mean it was all sunshine and rainbows, as each post is different when it comes to its policies and rules. Some allow violence, some make the first come, first serve rule, and others could be bargained with. Posts are also different depending on where the post is located, for example, the Eastern and Southern areas are closer to the oceans and seas, so they trade more tropical food and materials towards those places, whereas the Northern and Western areas are closer to old factories, mineshafts and dryer lands that are really good for plant life to thrive. All posts, well at least the ones I've been to have a knack for negotiation. Oh, and there is one rule that all posts stick to, which is; No stealing whatsoever. Posts should be transactional, with none of that grabbing and stealing shit. It doesn't matter how confrontational or aggressive a post is, if someone has witnessed you stealing, they won't hesitate to pursue you. They will continue to chase you, regardless of how long it's been since you stole from them.

Travellers are next, and they are fairly easy to understand. They enjoy travelling and often do so frequently, even though they don’t have to. From what I've seen and heard, most of them choose to continue exploring the world. They enjoy discovering new places and making connections with people, creating a network of support for when they find themselves trapped and cornered. Travellers also being different some have a liking to travel alone and others travel with isolated communities or groups. For the travellers that like to have a set home. They camp there and bring all they have scavenged back to their base. Travellers are usually the ones that would populate the posts, selling and trading their items. Last but not least, the Seekers. Now I'm actually not too familiar with them as I've only heard them a few times but they are definitely the lowest in the hierarchy. From what I know they are a group of communities that live underground. That's all I know.

Now with all that cleared up, I have been made abundantly clear that I've been wanted by most posts. They believe it's a new gang that raised up, oh well, I should say inputers. That's what I've heard been passed around. So when people heard there had been multiple discussions of different humans stealing from trading posts. To the point, many rumours have been circulating about multiple individuals being sneaky enough to avoid capture. People believed that mages or monsters were using magic, but that couldn't be further from the truth. If they had done a little bit of research, they would know that zombies are drawn to magic and will do anything to follow the magical scent. Plus they have been in this apocalypse for so long, how do they not know this information? Others believe that the other posts are sending their crew to steal from the high-achieving posts to make them lose customers. However, the most widely believed theory is that some traders were intentionally distracting people at the post, allowing others to sneak by unnoticed. All these theories gave me a chuckle. If they keep this charade up, I would be a happy camper.

I have been out of the facility for about three years, I mean, it's safe to say it's been three years since three winters have passed. During this time, I've mostly been in the eastern and southern areas, and I have stolen from multiple posts in those regions, each time using different disguises.

I mean like I said before, I've tried to be civil and it never worked out. Humans are all just a bunch of greedy gremlins. It's not like I'm trying to save the world or anything, but they don't know that. I can't just start a conversation with,

"Hey, I know you said I don't have enough to trade, but I'm the key to saving the world because I'm the only remaining Mithvs left and I'm the cure."  Yikes! Now that's just a major red flag.

The eastern territory is known to have the most resources. That's why they call it the capital of the posts. I have heard that this place has the most zombies, regardless of species, with Mithvs being particularly dominant. Unfortunately, I’ve seen too many for my liking, and more unfortunately I’ve killed them too. The more zombies that are killed, the more the world could change for the better.

The thing is I can’t make the cure, yet. My machine is about to die with it being on 5%. I made sure to make my machines last as long as possible to ensure proficiency and stuff. So that means 5% can still last me pretty long, give or take an hour or 2 before it runs out. I can’t charge it either since I don’t have the materials to make a new charger for it, and the materials do not exist anymore either. So that doesn’t really help my situation. I’m trying to find an alternative method to charge my machine, but it’s taking me forever. Either the materials I need are available, but people won’t give them to me, or I end up spending six months going to different locations just to find what I need and it's gone or broken. Not to mention that I haven’t found a single place that would be suitable for me to camp and make it a lab of some sort and not have people trying to steal my items.

After living in the eastern and southern areas, I finally think it's time for me to branch out, I heard the western area has a better atmosphere and is more inclined to have parts and electrical parts, which I just found out by a post I went to recently, and plus, Winter is atrocious here.

I just hope that the posts are way better than the ones here. I know the humans said the atmosphere is better, but I don't really like trusting humans all that much, so I'd rather see it myself, and well so far it’s not looking so great, considering what happened to me earlier. I’ve been to the western area before but only scraped the edge of it, nothing too special, so this is gonna be something new and interesting. I think I learnt all I need from the east and south so it's time to do more exploring.

Though winter hadn't yet arrived, I knew it was approaching as the frigid wind clawed at my face. Normally, I wouldn't be bothered by the weather, but whatever they did to me at the facility changed me. It felt as if the wind was wrapping around me, trying to suffocate me through my meagre clothes. With how my biology is made there's only a small margin where I could actually get sick. Getting a human sickness is impossible but, say, other species, like magical sickness, could affect me, some more than others.  I used to rely on a motorcycle for transportation, but it was stolen a few months ago. Now, I'm too much on the run to keep an eye on another one. Instead, I've had to rely on my shapeshifting and melting abilities to get by, which has done me wonders.

I've been making my way more into the western areas ever since that incident that happened two and a bit weeks ago and I've been pretty impatient to find another trading post to get the items I want. I'm hoping the posts will be more accommodating as I go further. Although it's not unusual to travel this long to get to a post I haven't discovered yet, it still feels like an eternity when I arrive.

Being the dramatic person I am, I collapsed onto the ground, panting from the exhaustion of the eight-hour hike I had endured. Man, I wish I could just teleport, but alas, I can't. Not without knowing the coordinates or what the area looks like. I lay on the grass for what seemed like hours before I heard footsteps approaching. Great, so much for being dramatic.

"Hey! Shit, ya'll right there. Ya hurt? Are there zombies nearby?" A deep bara-tone voice spoke, what seemed to be right next to me. Begrudgingly I got up, dusting myself before speaking.

“No, I'm fine. I didn't mean to scare you. No zombies here, I can tell you that. It’s just been exhausting getting here. I'm new in town, as you can probably tell. I came from the southern areas and was just trying to find a nearby post,” I said, finally looking at the face that greeted me.

The guy looked fairly built, with short, stubby hair and a combination of a goatee and moustache, and he was of average height too. I could tell he was definitely a dad. He just had that sense of aura about him, plus the straight-up concern from when I first arrived here. That couldn't be more of a reason that he was a dad. Oh fuck, I'm just realising, I'm not paying attention to him at all and his speaking.

"-Heh, anyways, nice to meet you, I'm Brayden, but most people call me Bray. Welcome to the Eveskel trade post. If you need a place to stay, we are currently available to do so, or if you are just passing by to trade, there are empty stores available for you to set up." Bray finished off.

Well, if that didn't pique my interest then I don't know what will. I have never heard of someone naming their post before. They are usually named by sectors. This either means I found the odd one out or this is a thing the western area posts do.

"Heh heh, yeah. Nice to meet you Bray, the name's Xavier. I don't think I will be staying too long, so no need to set up a room or tent. I'm planning to stroll around and see what I can trade. Just heading more west after this, hahah, you can say I'm on a bit of a tight schedule." I responded. I've used Xavier a couple of times as a code name. Heh, I remember when I pretended to be him all the time. He used to be so annoyed... Ahh, good times.

"Oh, alright then, I see. Are you doing a job for someone? Is it contracted or more of a request?" He asked, clearly interested to know about my situation. Thank you Bray for giving me an excuse, if you didn't then I have to make up one, which is always a pain to do.

"Somewhat of both. Eh, it's complicated. Let's just say it's for a friend's friend. Either way, you won't see me for long." I told Bray with a bit of a sorry tone.

"Haha, yeah. Sorry for the sudden question about it. I'm just a bit curious about the people passing through here. Alright, enough of that. I'm sure you know how the rules go around here. No attacking, no stealing, all that jazz. Not sure if you’ve heard this rule before, but I'm going to need to search you. Also, if you could hand over any dangerous weapons you have, that would be great. Of course, I'll give them back when you leave. It's just more of a safety precaution. We really like to ensure everyone’s safety here." He said as he gave me all the information.

"Nah, it's all good. I get curious often too. Yep, I've heard about all the rules you mentioned, and it's no worries on my end," I told Bray as I began passing him all the weapons I’d taken from the facility. It's shrunk a fair bit since the start, as I’ve traded them over the years.

"Oh wait, you can bring weapons in if you're gonna trade them." Bray jumped in when he was about to check me.

"Oh, nah, it's ok. I won't do that today." I just sold like three a few weeks ago and I don't wanna sell another that soon. Plus I need some for myself.

After that was sorted, he checked me. I was a bit worried about the smoke bomb that I had snug tightly under my hoodie, but everything was alright when he said I was good to go. I took some things out of my bag to trade, deciding that, it was a hassle to bring it with me.

“Oh actually, I don’t think I’ll be needing my bag. Here could you mind it for me.” I said stuffing the things I wanted to trade in the pocket of my hoodie.

“Yeah, that’s fine. I’ll bring it to the storage area.”

I started to follow him to the main entrance. This post is definitely different compared to all the others I've been to. Sure lots of posts have been friendly and informal like this, but this is something different. It feels more welcoming.

"Everything is all good. Well, it's nice chatting with you Xavier. Thank you for being so cooperative, hahaha we need more people like you around. I'll be here with your bag when you’re ready to leave. In the meantime enjoy your stay at Eveskel trading post" Bray said as the gates started to open.

Yeah, definitely more welcoming.

Chapter Text

I thanked Bray for his warm welcome as I entered. I couldn't believe my eyes. This place looked more like a resort than a rundown, dingy post where you could lose all your resources in a single trade. Sure, I knew this post would be different, but I didn't expect anything like this.

As I continued my walk, I started to notice things that regular posts would never have. Near the entrance, there were stables where several horses were gathered. It felt like a parking station of sorts, where they were being cared for. The horses were being brushed and washed, and they had food and water nearby. It was pretty neat. Also, right next to the stable, there was a parking station for vehicles. Different kinds of trucks and motorcycles were parked.

I passed several buildings that didn’t seem to be restricted, which is strange because most posts I’ve visited usually have areas that traders or passersby cannot access. These buildings looked well-kept and inviting, as if people had been living there for more than a few days. It’s odd because there is typically a limit on how long you can stay at a post. This is generally a universal rule. Most places will allow you to stay for a week if you’re lucky or have a valid reason on why you were gonna stay longer.

As I walked further, I could see more people than I'd ever seen in one place. Wow. This must be a very popular trading post to have this many occupants at this time of day. Not to mention, the stench of rotting humans did not permeate the air. No matter where you are or how high you get, there will always be that putrid smell around. It's been such a fucking long time since I have breathed actual clean air, well as clean as it can get. How did they do this? I took the longest, deepest inhale I could manage and let it out just as slowly. Forgot how wonderful the air really smelled. I'm probably the only one who knows what 'air' smells like. The humans today all grew up in the apocalypse. If my memory serves me right, Humans can only live up to 100 years old. Actually, wait, if any mages are still alive, they would have also remembered the air. I wonder if any are still alive?

“It’s nice, isn’t it? Ha, sometimes I wonder if we’re the only post that actually cares about how well you breathe.” A voice suddenly spoke right next to me. I jumped back, not expecting anyone to talk to me. Shit. I should pay more attention to my surroundings. What if that was the facility Delta?! Stupid. Stupid. Dumb. I need more sleep.

“Woah, woah, hey. Shit! Ha! Sorry pal, didn’t mean ta make you jump out of ya skin like that. Promise. I wasn’t tryin’ to scare off a potential customer like that.” He even had a baritone voice, geez, is everyone like baritone here? Looking at the guy, he was extremely tall, I’m talking 1.85 metres tall, or something like that. He was pretty built, as well as having a beard. His hands could easily squeeze my neck and kill me in an instant. Heh, doesn't matter cause I'd just come back.

“Oh, no harm done. Don’t worry about it. I was just a bit distracted, that's all. I'm lost, as you can tell, so I was just breathing in the fresh air. I haven’t breathed fresh air like this for what seems like eons. It is nice by the way.” Inhaling again. How did they do it? No matter, I'll find out later. I smiled. Breathing in this air reminds me of a time I will never get back again.

"I could see that you're lost. You were just standing there for quite a long time, hahaha. You're a trader, right? If you want to trade and buy things, I can show you where it is." He said with a smile

“That's really kind of you. Thank you, sir." I smiled back. As I followed him, it began to feel awkward. I love talking. So, having this prolonged silence is killing me. It's only been a minute, and I'm already dying. Might as well try to get on his good side and gain some information about this post. It looks like his been here for a long time.

"Sooooo, can people really live here long-term? The buildings I saw as I passed through looked very much inhabited, not just like a place to stop and rest before moving on again," I asked, curious about his response.

“Ahh, yes. We work differently here. In most posts, they won’t allow you to live on the ground for the long term, unless you are related or close friends, but in my post, anyone is welcome to stay, no matter how long. We’d have to do background checks and give you a job to sustain the place, but other than that, you are allowed. I want people to feel welcomed.” He finished with a grin on his face.

“That’s… Really kind of you.” I smiled, glad to know not all humans are assholes. “Wait… My post?!” I was shocked that I just realised what he said.

He laughed and grinned even more.

“Ah, my apologies, I never introduced myself. I’m Evander, the owner of this establishment.” The now-named ‘Evander’ introduced himself.

I was shocked. I was talking to the owner the whole time. This has never happened to me before. Well, this quickly. I haven’t even stolen anything yet. So, why the hell is the owner talking to me? Something about this doesn’t seem right. Unless this is another difference they do compare to the other posts. Where, apparently, the owner comes up to you and gives you a personal greeting. But what’s the motive for that? This is just too specific to be real.

“Oh, wow… S-Sorry, i’m just shocked that the owner would be here to give a personal tour to new customers. I assumed you were a regular here or that you visited often. This has never happened to me. I’m Xavier be the way. It’s nice to meet you Evander. I should be more formal.” I made sure to be more bashful and act a bit confused.

He started to laugh out loud.

“You’re fine, Xavier. You don’t need to apologise, and like I said, I want this place to feel inviting for new travellers. A place where there’s no hostile energy. We haven’t had a new traveller in a long while, and I wanted to greet you like anyone who enters this post. I may be the one who built this establishment with my mates, but this post has become more than just mine. It’s anyone who’s willing to provide. This post initially never had a name, but when I met a skeleton and eventually his family, something in me changed. I mean, that’s why it’s called the “Eveskel” post after all. Evander finished off by looking at his post.

I blinked for a moment. My thoughts are racing too fast for my brain to catch and pin them down. I'm really a dumb fuck. Eveskel, skel, skeleton! Oh my fucking hell...

You know what? I think this is a perfect opportunity to get some information about Monsters. No one ever talked about them when I was in the Eastern and Southern areas. Even if I asked, they would look at me with pure hatred or, well, sometimes hunger, like they just heard the best news. Come to think of it, some did follow me and try to kidnap me. I just want information. Why are they so hated, and why is he talking like they weren't hated here?

"Wait! Skeletons! Damn! That makes so much sense. You know, why it's called Eveskel! Eve, like a shortened version of your name, Evander, and skel, from the skeletons. That's genius!" I said, acting excited and amazed. If I don't get what I need here, at least I'm leaving with information.

"Yeah, ha, I'm glad someone appreciates it," Evander said rather appreciatively.

"Say, I fuckin' forgot how long it's been since Monsters came out of the underground. Dang, it's been such a long time since I met one, too." I said, vividly hinting at what I want. For the love of satan, I hope that was believable.

"Where are you from?" He asked, sounding suspicious, no longer having the slight cheeriness in his voice.

Oh shit. Maybe I shouldn't have said anything. That was risky as fuck. Welp, heh, there's no going back. I'll just have to dig my grave even further.

"Ahh, my apologies, I'm from the Eastern area, but I've been to the southern areas multiple times as well. This is my first time travelling to Western places." I stared at his face to see if there was any change in expression. A slight eye raise was all I got. If this interaction turned sour, I'm leaving. I already made enough enemies with posts. I don't need more to be on my back right now.

"Heh, probably that's why you haven't seen any." He finally said after ten seconds of staring at me.

Holy fuck. Ok, I'm not dead yet. That's a good sign, but now I'm just lost. He did not answer any of my well-hinted questions, which left me with even more questions than answers. Why does living in the eastern and southern areas mean not seeing any monsters? I can't just say 'Why is that?" Because one, that would just make me look suspicious as hell and, two, a fat fucking liar. He probably thinks I've been living there for my whole life. Not to mention, I look young as hell. I just shapeshifted into a random 25-year-old. I should have really thought about that. Shit, I'm not responding. Fuck, ok, say something Delta!

I nodded.

That's NOT a response, Delta!!!!! He's not even looking at you?! Before I could speak to address that embarrassing incident, he halted, and I nearly bumped into him before managing to stop myself. Just as I was about to apologise for almost colliding with him, he began to speak.

"Anyways, we're here. There should be an extra booth around if you want it. It's not as busy today. If you don't want a booth, that's fine too. Hahaha, I hope you enjoy you're time here. I'll be around if you need anything." He said as he patted my shoulder.

I thanked him for his hospitality and told him if I needed him, I'd come find him. We said our goodbyes and parted ways.

What was that Delta?! You just had to ruin the interaction. Goodness fuckin' me. I'm too tired for this. I should really get some sleep after this. It's been what, like a week since I slept. I was busy. Sleep was interfering with it; I couldn't just stop working, but if I were in full condition, that situation wouldn't have happened.

Sleep is different for us mithvs, or at least some sub-cultures. I could probably last another week without sleeping before I'd crash out. Demons don't need as much sleep as other species. Don't get me wrong, we still need to sleep by all means, but we can go weeks before our body decides it's time. Which is neat, cause sometimes it's a waste of time sleeping, when there are many other important things to do.

As I walked around, I noticed a lot of products related to hygiene were being sold; handmade soaps, toothpaste, towels, brushes, all that jazz. Why would anyone trade things for that? Humans have weird fuckin' priorities. There was just so much of it. At least three booths I passed were selling it. I thought Western posts were known for their industrial equipment and plant life, not skin care routines and hotel accessories. I know humans were wasteful, but not like this. Sure, I'd seen booths like this in other posts, but this is to the extreme.

Do they realise we're in an apocalypse? Some of the materials they mention could be incredibly useful for other products. I understand soaps and toothpaste, as they can serve purposes beyond just hygiene, but the rest? Give me a break. If this is all this post has to offer, I might as well just leave. After all, I've embarrassed myself enough already.

After passing a few more booths that didn't seem very promising, I stumbled upon something that caught my attention. Herbs? Healing herbs? The little jars on display were labelled with terms like "Sickness Cure," "Anti-Infection," and "Heal Skin." Can herbs really have that kind of effect?

"You like what you see?"

I turned, as I stared up at the seller.

"Yeah, it's interesting, I didn't know herbs could do that," I said, actually being truthful for once.

"Really now? You've never seen these? They're top sellers everywhere." He sounded amazed.

Great, another mistake. I'm just making a lot of them today. It's not my fault, I only pay attention to the machinery parts.

"Yeah, I usually go to the night vendors, and when I go during the day, it's probably sold out. My buddy typically handles all the posts and deals, and the only reason I'm here is to complete a commission," I replied casually as I picked up the jars to inspect them.

Damn, how am I pulling this story right out of my ass. Why didn't I think of a story beforehand? I'm such a fucking idiot.

"Are they really just herbs?" I asked before he could respond. Don't need him to ask anymore questions now, do we.

"Heh, most of them are. Like, for instance, the one you're holding. It's echinacea, commonly known as coneflower. It's relatively easy to find, especially when it's early summer to late autumn. They bloom like wildfire. The leaf, stalk, and root are usually harvested and used to boost your immune system and fight off any infections you may have. The only problem is that echinacea grows in the eastern areas, and I don't feel comfortable going there. I usually just ask one of the skeletons or commissioners to go. Oh, and that, yeah, the one named "Heal skin" is just aloe vera. It's used for all sorts of benefits, but the most useful of them all is, of course, the healing property for skin. I won't go into depth on it, but it helps with burns, sunburn, small abrasions, cuts, dry skin, well, you get the idea." He explained.

I, I didn't know herbs could do that. I initially thought they were useless pieces of plants, but he might be up to something. He might be pretty beneficial to keep him on my good side. Bigger news! This is the second time people have mentioned the skeletons. They must be really popular around here.

Well, duh. Of course, they are, Delta; it's called eveSKEL for a reason. I wonder if I would ever stumble across them. Eh, who knows?

"That's... Really neat." I put down the jar and looked at him as he laughed. "Where did you figure all this out?"

"Where did I learn about them? Well, my dad used to teach me about herbs when I was younger, and you wouldn't believe how many books people wrote on the subject. You'd think they were preparing for a zombie apocalypse!" He started laughing again.

I... Also didn't know that. I thought people back then were just writing about ways to kill us. After all, they were so fixated on that statement.

"Well, that's some interesting knowledge you have there, and very useful too," I told him.

"It sure is. It's also very good for sale! Which reminds me, are you just planning to chit chat here, or are you gonna buy something? Don't get me wrong, love to have a talk with potential customers, but I can see people coming and they look pretty needy to get here. Don't want you to get stuck." He said as he looked behind me.

Oh no. I hate needy humans. I need to move.

"Oh, sorry, I apologise for taking so long. I didn’t mean to waste your time. I’m not planning on purchasing today; I was just really curious about this. Thank you for explaining herbs to me. My name is Xavier, by the way. I’ll definitely come back in the future if you’re still around." I said as I tried to wrap things up quickly.

"It was a pleasure to talk with you, Xavier, and you don't have to apologise . Nice to know they're are still people who are interested in herbs. I will definitely be here since I live in Eveskel. Have a wonderful day. Thank you for stopping by. I'm Henry." Henry smiled as he waved me goodbye.

I should write that down. That could be very useful in the future, well, since I'm not trapped in the facility anymore and not actively trying to kill myself. My friends will like that. I'm gonna try and keep that a thing just for them, even though it would be much easier if I did the opposite. Having my machine fully charged would also make my life better. Everyone's life would be better. I would finally have the opportunity to create the cure that the facility said they wanted. This is the reason I've been collecting parts in the first place. It has taken me three years to find the right components, and this year is the year I'm going to complete it. Hey, this might be my last stop if they have the specific type of wires I need. If life would just be kind to me this once.

I walked around some more, hoping to find the part I needed. Unfortunately, no other store was catching my eye, which was disappointing. I didn’t want to search for another post that would take me days to reach. I was feeling done with chasing what I wanted. After thoroughly browsing all the booths, I began to second-guess myself, wondering if I had simply not looked hard enough. Maybe I had missed it, or perhaps the wires I needed were tangled among the many other items that the store owner had left cluttered on the table.

But no, nope, nada. Nothing. Now you've got to be kidding me. I likely left my mark on this post with my rambling, and in the end, I have nothing to show for it. I even went through the box of scraps they left out for anyone to take. Sure, there were some electrical parts, but nothing that I needed. I think I'm gonna give up. I began walking back to the starting point and realised that something seemed off. I could have sworn there was a booth here just a minute ago, and there was another one over there as well. Now that I think about it, it feels like there are fewer people around. Isn't it too early for everyone to start packing up? Then I noticed another booth packing up, and it didn’t seem like they were leaving in a calm manner. No. They were stuffing items into their boxes and backpacks as if their lives depended on it. From my position, I couldn't understand what they were saying, but it looked pretty urgent. That made me concerned.

What the fuck was going on.

I walked back to where I knew Henry's booth was to see if he had any information about what was happening, but I was taken aback to find that he wasn't there either. This was fuckin' strange. If something major were going on, they would have announced it over the speakers or at least been shouting at everyone to, well, I don't know, get to safety or whatever.

Not everyone was packing n' leaving, but there was a significant amount gone from their booths, which made me feel uneasy. I should just leave. There's nothing here that I want anyway. As I started to head to the entrance, I turned when I heard someone shout.

"Last trades! I repeat, last calls for trades! Only electrical parts left. Booth will close in five minutes!" A guy shouted out of nowhere.

Electrical parts? The fuck. Where did he come from?! There is no way my eyesight is deteriorating already!? I should know, I felt it before and my eyes feel fine. No more asking questions, i should go before it’s too late.

I turned around as I sprinted to the post.

“Hey, I didn’t realise you were selling electronics here. Sorry, I would have come here sooner if I had known,” I said as I tried to catch my breath. He didn’t respond, but I didn’t think much of it; some people are just like that.

I began to sift through the pile of scraps, which contained some of the best items I've encountered so far. Some of them were even new. How did they manage to find these? Most of the things I've scavenged have been mediocre at best. There were all sorts of batteries, metal scraps, and part of what looked like it belonged to a microwave. All useful in their own rights, but what I need is—wait—there. There it is. I pulled some wires from the tangled pile underneath the clutter. This is exactly what I’ve been looking for! The yellow-coded plastic, with the copper wires sticking out, made me ecstatic. I can’t believe I found it! I was about to thank the trader when I suddenly realised something.

He wasn't there anymore.

Maybe I should actually pay more attention. How long has he been gone? How did I not notice? Before I had time to react, my back stiffened as I instinctively twisted my body just in time to narrowly avoid the tip of a metal pole aimed directly at my head. That would have really hurt. In the heat of the moment, I completely ignored the wires and fixated on my attacker. Fuck. A skeleton. Welp, I guess I did stumble across one.

"Damn, wow! This is not what I expected for my first meeting with a skeleton. Nice to meet you. So, what do I have the pleasure of encountering today—a metal pole?" My sarcasm kicked in as my heart raced.

He did not respond.

Now, this is just great, isn't it? I should have just left when I had the opportunity.

I sighed. I guess, here we go.

Chapter 12: I just wanted that wire

Notes:

-Author's note-
Here's another chapter!

I have made some changes and added a few things at the end of Chapter 10 to improve its flow with the rest of the story. My future fics will definitely be much better than my current ones, as I have learned from my mistakes and will create a plan before starting a new story, lol.

If you want to read what I changed in chapter 10, it starts at, "After that was sorted, he checked me."

Another note to remember is that mages and human have red blood. Monsters and Mithvs are different. (Though most Mithvs have red blood).

And if you are confused about my OC, check chapter one or the end notes for more info about him.

Chapter Text

This. Wasn't. Fair. This was not fair at all.

Ambush??? Come on, give me a break. I didn’t need to deal with this during a week of sleep deprivation. Couldn’t they have just waited until everything didn't look like a blur of colours? Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating a bit, but my point still stands. At least give me a warning before trying to slam a metal pole on my head. And what's the point of sending a skeleton after me? Imagine. This creepy guy with two scars, one larger than the other, running down his right eye socket, had the most impressive armour I had ever seen. On top of that, his scarf was menacing yet mesmerising, being a striking shade of red. Wait? What do humans call that drink again? Oh, right! Wine. It was a wine-red colour. Well, it didn't really matter since that skeleton I just described was chasing me for frankly doing nothing wrong?! That's my fucking problem right now. For satan's sake, I know you're trying to capture me n'all, but what the hell did I do wrong? I obeyed all the rules, did not steal anything and was even nice to everyone. I feel like that’s a win-win situation. But apparently not for them.

Was it something I said? Screw that, it was definitely something I said. Stupid mouth. I knew that was gonna be the end of this hunt, but I need that wire. That was the last part I needed. I don’t think I’d ever be this lucky again, and on top of that, I might just lose everything I’ve collected over the three years if I don’t go and get my bag. Great. Don’t get knocked out and don’t get captured while trying to get my bag. Just perfect.

My thoughts were interrupted when a bone suddenly appeared out of nowhere, nearly hitting me. Magic? Really? In this day and age. Well. Ok, I guess using it now in a fortified base is actually a very smart idea, as it's too far for the zombies to have sensed it, and also, people wouldn’t expect magical attacks, cause- Wait?! Why am I defending them?! I’m trying to save my ass here, not his! I jumped aside as another bone materialised in front of me. You got to be fucking kidding me. I turned around to see the skeleton right behind me. Welp, Ok. Running doesn’t seem to be the solution. I need a new plan. Fast. Come on, think, think, think, think. I can’t just what- Find a dark place to melt through the walls… Oh… Wait, that’s exactly what I can do… Heh, my brain really has it out for me.

With the skeleton coming closer and closer, I didn't run away like a normal person would. Instead, I ran toward him. I couldn't read his facial expression, but the way he clenched the metal pole and raised it to strike told me he probably wasn't happy about the situation. I quickly dodged as the pole clattered to the ground. The sound of it crashing against the concrete gave me an idea. He started to lift the pole again, and I waited for my moment. Using the pole to my advantage, I jumped over the skeleton. Bingo. I landed in a roll and began running quickly. I knew I saw some dark places over there that I could use to escape without looking too suspicious if I had just disappeared out in the open.

I heard a whistling sound coming straight toward me, and I ducked just in time to avoid a bullet-shaped object that passed through the space where my head had been just a second earlier. When I turned to see what it was, I discovered a discarded rubber bullet. It would have definitely knocked out a human. Too bad I'm no such thing. I glanced in the direction from which the bullet had come and rolled my eyes at the sight before me. More skeletons? You've got to be kidding me. This one looked just as sleep-deprived as I was, with huge bags under his eyes, which, how is that even possible??? They're skeletons??? I wish I knew more about monsters. Anyways, he was wearing this annoying orange hoodie that looked pretty roughed up. Nothing like the other one.

I turned around, hoping to get back on track, and almost laughed out loud when I saw another skeleton aiming a gun directly at me, blocking the path I needed to take. I know I should probably feel annoyed at getting trapped again and probably a bit worried about the gun pointed at my face, but I found this whole situation funny.

I can’t go back, I can’t go left, and I can’t go straight. I sighed, trying to look more annoyed than I was. Well, let’s just go righ- FUCKING HELL?! Seriously, where are all these skeletons coming from?! Why am I always greeted with a weapon? Where did the friendly "Hello! How are you?" go? The skeleton on the right looked just as menacing, if not more so, than the one with scars. His sword was pointed at me like a watchful guard dog. I looked around as they began to encircle me, ensuring that they blocked every possible escape route. Great. Just fantastic.

“H-Hey! H-Ha, pals. I’m not sure what nerve I hit with you all. Well, not really since you don’t have any nerves since you're a skeleton and all, uh, anyway. I think we might have gone off the wrong foot.”

My speech didn’t help my situation at all. It only made them angrier. Well, I tried, I suppose. I guess I should just keep my mouth shut next time. They have their tricks, I’ll admit that, but they aren’t the only ones who know a few tricks.

“O-Ok, j-just don’t knock me out! Please! I-I’ll surrender! Whatever I did, I’m sorry.” I said, putting on the most panic and sincerity in my voice as I could.

I knew damn well that my act wasn't gonna be believed, but I just needed one of them to falter. To show a hint of hesitancy. Anything. Scars over there definitely didn't believe it. I could tell that he knew how to kill someone in a hundred different ways. That act, no matter how great it was, won't fool him. The sleep-deprived guy wouldn't fall for it either, nor would the one carrying the sword. But the last one? I was smirking on the inside just thinking about it. Oh, he was going to falter, alright. He looked serious, but I could tell that he wasn’t truly brave; the subtle shake of his hands gave everything away. I'm pretty observant. The lowering of the gun was just the opening I needed.

Not wasting any more of my precious seconds, I threw the last smoke bomb that I created back at the facility. This was easy to sneak in without being detected when they were checking me at the entrance. Since I made my design to be more effective, efficient and untraceable.

I could tell that they were fully prepared for something like this to happen, as the one with the sword grabbed me before I could make a run for it. Nope. I'm this close to escaping. With probably inhuman speed, I ripped his grip off my jacket. Twisting his hand and making sure that he wouldn't be able to use it for a while. With that out of the way, I didn't realise that a gunshot had rang out. A sharp pain erupted throughout my leg. Fuck. I hissed in frustration and melted into the ground. I never thought he'd actually- Damn, I really misjudged. The bitch actually pulled the trigger. I don't have time to think about this. I needed to leave immediately. Shit, I still need to retrieve my things. I quickly navigated through the area to where I knew the gate was, and to no surprise, they were shutting the gates to prevent anyone from getting in or out. Luckily, that didn’t affect me. I was out of the post in no time.

Where was Bray? I just needed to find him. He had my stuff. Didn’t he mention something about a bagging area? I began to search my surroundings, and it didn’t take long before I stumbled upon what appeared to be a storage area. I could hear voices coming from inside. Shifting back to the surface, I crept closer to the entrance.

"They lost him!?... He can't go far... Yeah... The gates are locked... No... Yeah... I have the bag, it's not going anywhere... Got it... Talk to you later." That was undoubtedly Bray. They secured my bag even though they knew I couldn't escape. That was another whole new level.

From what it sounds like, he was alone. That's good. No one would come. Though I would have to destroy that walkie-talkie. Can't have him calling backup.

"What did I do so wrong? Honestly, I obeyed the rules, didn't I?" I said as I entered the room.

No other exit. Perfect. Bray jumped and pulled his rifle out.

"W-what? How did you get here- Don't move, or I’ll shoot!” Bray looked panicked for a second before he aimed his rifle at me.

"Geez, Bray. Calm down. I'm just here to get my bag."

"Don't fucking call me Bray! It's Brayden for you. You're a fucking mage, aren't you! Fucking hell. I trusted you. There is no way you got through that gate in time!” he shouted.

“Ouch. Brayden now. I thought we had something. Could you, like, not yell, please? I'm trying to leave without anymore drama. Ok, yeah, anyway. I really need my bag so I’m just gonna-”

Before I could finish my sentence, I saw Brayden reach for his walkie-talkie. Nope. That wasn't going to happen. With me being outed, I didn't need to pretend anymore. I stepped in just as he grabbed the device, twisting his arm in the same way I had done with the skeleton. With that handled, I took the walkie-talkie and threw it as hard as I could onto the ground, then stepped on it for good measure.

“Nah uhh, can't have you calling for backup,” I said with a sing-song voice.

Brayen grunted in pain and took several steps back, dropping the gun. He grabbed the gun with his feet and slid it so that I couldn't reach it. He still had his composure. That's good.

“I'm not letting you fucking have it! You fucking thief,” he yelled.

Huh? Finally, so this is what all of this was about.

“Geez, I haven't even stolen anything here. I'm trying to improve. I needed that wire and I fucking dropped it, all because of the skeleton that wanted to jam a metal pole at my head, ha, and hell no I'm not going there again. I wasted my last smoke bomb for this. Just give me the bag and I’ll be out of your hair. I'll never come back. Promise.”

“I don’t give a shit about you! I fucking checked you, I would have known about the smoke bomb!”

“You really need to stop yelling. I’m trying to escape here. I guess the point goes to me for making that smoke bomb efficient. Well, times up. I really need to go before-”

“Fuck! Mages don’t have white blood! W-what are you!?”

I cursed under my breath, realising that I had forgotten about the gunshot that was still fresh. Looking down, it was still bleeding steadily. My blood was likely smeared on the floor and probably outside as well. This was bad. Great. I don’t know if anyone still knows what a Mithvs is. Before Brayden could say anything, I quickly knocked him out by shoving his head into the concrete. Fuck. This is bad. I can’t keep doing this. I need to be more careful. Ok, stay calm. It’s ok. Just wipe his memory and clean the blood off.

Ok. I can do this.

First, I need something to stop the bleeding. I'll deal with the bullet later. I noticed a nearby jacket lying on the top shelf. Well, I guess I broke my promise sooner than I intended. That doesn't matter right now. I took the jacket and tore one sleeve off to create a makeshift tourniquet to stop the bleeding. Once that was taken care of, I lifted Brayden and leaned him against the wall, wiping any blood that had dripped on his face. I know how uncomfortable dried blood can be on the skin.

After making sure that I didn't hurt him too badly, I placed my hands on his temple and transformed my hand into one of the Mithvs I had known from the facility. She was an insanely skilled healer with the ability to manipulate your body and mind with her healing abilities, making you forget memories. I remember that plan we made back when we still had hope of escaping, that we were gonna use her to escape. Heh, guess that fell short. She was a fun person to be around while it lasted. Though I never really understood why I inherited that power specifically, instead of the main healing ability.

Once I was certain Brayden wouldn’t remember a thing about this, I began to clean away the blood that dripped on the floor. It wasn't going to be perfect, but I don’t think they will notice much since they will be too busy checking on Brayden and searching the surrounding forest for me.

Lastly, I took my bag, making sure that everything was still in there, and my weapon. They probably realised something wasn't right, especially with Brayben unable to respond to the walkie-talkie, so with one final check around the storage room, I quickly left. Only stopping to pull up the remaining grass with white spots, and quickly sank into the ground. With an injured leg, there's no way I can travel far, plus travelling like this is much faster.

I'm really disappointed that his post ended up being such a disaster. Technically, it was my fault for not thinking about my bag earlier. I didn't expect him to check it afterwards. This situation is a complete mess, and I hope the facility doesn't hear about it. The last time something like this happened, they were very close to dragging me back to that hellhole... Well... Hell is a much better place than whatever that facility was. Honestly, I don't understand why they're trying to find me. It's not like they're doing it for the greater good. Whatever, I'm sure I can find another post with the wires I need. Definitely.

I just need to travel away from Eveskel right now. No matter what, just don't look back and keep going. Fuck. I need to find a place safe enough to rest for like 3 whole days, maybe even more. I also need to fucking treat the gunshot wound. At least being in this form helps me. There is nothing to stop me. Everything I have is safe. No one would even know I’m here. I can just get lost in the scenery around me. I got nothing out of this hunt except for more trouble. The shot was uncomfortable, but it wasn't painful enough for me to have to stop. At this point, I’m just too lazy to take it out, and there's no one here to tell me off, so I can do whatever I want. Plus, the throbbing pain is the only reason my thoughts aren't too loud. I don’t need that getting in my way now. This area of the forest was extremely beautiful, almost as if it were frozen in time, especially when there weren't any zombies around. Various types of mushrooms were growing all around, though some patches appeared to be damaged, indicating that people had been here.

Time passed absentmindedly as I wandered without really paying attention to my surroundings. It didn’t matter much since I had no idea where I was going in the first place. I made sure that I was far from the post, with enough distance for them not to chase me, even in their vehicles.

Eventually, I tuned back in and realised that I was melted in water. Watching the gentle flow passing by felt nice, almost melancholic. I sighed and decided it was safe enough to rest for a few minutes before continuing. This location was not suitable for camping out, but it could work for a brief break. Shifting back to the surface, I immediately fell ass first into the stream. Ouch. Water started to seep through the makeshift tourniquet and started dying the stream white. It stung, bad, but I couldn’t care less, I felt worse before.

Whatever the facility had injected me with really lowered my pain tolerance. By all means, I think it’s still better than a human. Having a bullet stuck in my leg wasn’t even bad before but now it stunt like a bitch. I can’t die by bleeding out, so leaving it in won’t do much. I picked myself up and walked to the edge where I could dry off. Taking off the tourniquet, I noticed that the bleeding had stopped because the bullet was blocking the wound. It was bruised, and my skin looked ripped. Staring a the bullet whole, I wasn’t bothered to take care of it currently, which probably wasn’t a good idea. I was probably gonna beat myself up later for it, but at this moment, I was fine. I breathed in the contaminated air, already missing Eveskel’s air. I listened to the stream, and with the methodical pattern of its sound, I began to drift off.

Marshal! Marshal! Fuck, where the hell are you! I don’t know what’s going on, but I know they took the rest of the hybrids here, so you gotta be here! Marshal! Empty. Empty. Empty. Empty.

Fuck. Fuck!

Please! Say something!

Empty. Empty. Empty.

You gotta be-

Empty. Empty.

I-I need you.

Empty.

You're the only one I have left!

E M P T Y.

Come on, marshal, I'm gonna get you out of here- I-I swear- You know, before-

M-marshal…

I woke up with a jolt, preparing myself to melt into the ground at any danger I saw.

But there was nothing.

I wiped my eyes and tried to untangle my hair with my fingers. What a stupid dream. This was the consequence of not getting enough sleep. The day was turning dark. I needed to leave if I wanted to get to a safe place before nightfall.

I picked up the cloth, which had dried significantly since I had fallen asleep. While it wasn't completely dry, I didn’t think I needed it anymore since the bleeding had stopped. My clothes were also still damp, but were fine for now.

After doing one last check to ensure I had everything and that nothing had been stolen, I set off again.

I travelled until the sky was completely dark. As night fell, more and more zombies began to pass by. Wow, it looks like tonight is going to be active. I should try to find an abandoned building, or if I can’t find anything suitable, I guess I’ll have to dig a hole again.

I started to feel woozy. It’s only been a few hours, and already I’m feeling this way. I shifted back to the surface and tried to catch my breath. Ugh, this really sucks.

I suppose it's time to use my legs. Walking doesn't feel as painful as I expected, considering I have a bullet lodged in me. It’s definitely uncomfortable, but not unbearable. As lazy as I've been, I need to remove the bullet today. I’ll do that once I take a break.

I kept going, even as everything got worse by the second. I knew I should have removed the bullet when I was at the stream. This time, I was actually seeing a blur of colours, which wasn't good. Just when I was about to give up and turn into an animal to dig underground, I spotted a shed. It was a really decrepit structure that looked seconds away from collapsing. Wow, I might find shelter this time. The only thought in my mind at that point was how amazing it’s gonna feel when I get the bullet out.

I sighed in relief. I started to walk down until I tripped over a rock and tumbled the rest of the way to the shed, only stopping by a sickening snap.

I screamed. Fuck. No. No. Fuck. Shit. A bear trap! Holy. Shit, the bullet is still inside. Fuck. Of course, it had to be the same leg. Just my luck. I was breathing too quickly to be normal. Shit. What do I do? There is no way I can melt like this.

SNAP-

Everything within me tensed, and I immediately turned around. It better not be a zombie. I can't deal with that right now.

There was nothing.

I continued to stare for a little while longer, ensuring that it was actually nothing. I turned back, only to jump in surprise, jostling the bear trap in the process, making me swear under my breath. Not another damn skeleton.

The guy had a massive crack in his skull, with one piercing red eye that served as the only source of light, focused directly on me. He didn't even blink. Not creepy at all. This allowed me to see the grin on his face.

He looked down at my leg, and I did the same, only to realise that he was seeing my blood. My very not normal white blood.

"Hey there. I'm in a bit of a sticky situation right now. Please bear with me, but I think I can't use my leg anymore. Would you mind helping me out of this trap? I can explain everything." I said to lighten the mood.

I thought he would appreciate the pun I made, but apparently not, as he didn't even chuckle. Instead, he just grinned even wider and actually started helping me. That was a nice surprise. He began pulling the bear trap apart with his hands. I winced, realising that I wouldn't be able to walk for a while. At least he wasn't too confused about my white blood. Monsters don’t know much about the surface since they have only been here for a short time, so I can use that to my advantage.

"Thank you for you're help. I had no idea what I was gonna do without it-"

I was interrupted when the trap jammed back into my leg. I screamed again, but this time, the skeleton covered my mouth to silence me. Shit. Why do I try to be positive? He grabbed a cloth out of this pocket and tied it to my mouth. He leaned and started to whisper in my ear.

"You are gonna pay... Don't worry, ya won't run any longer."

Now that’s just disturbing. If I had any doubts about him being related to the other skeletons I encountered, I definitely don't anymore. He grabbed my hand and started twisting it. Yeah, that confirmed it. Then he pulled out a large axe that I swear I didn’t see him carrying before. Without any warning, he slammed the handle against my head. I started seeing stars. Damn, I really wish that had knocked me out. When I opened my eyes, I saw him looming over me with that grin still plastered on his face.

"Yer resilient huh? That just means more fun for me."

Oh, fuck no. I didn't really have a say as the axe continued to strike down on my head again and again and again and again, to the point I actually wanted to pass out. Fuck my body. I can't think. My head felt like it was on fire.

"... Wow...you're...awake....wonder...take...down..."

I couldn't pay attention to what he was saying. Everything hurt; it was all just static. I knew I was reaching my limits, and I just hoped he wouldn't jam that axe into my head again. I would take anything over that. Nothing was making sense to me. For a moment, it felt like a dream, as if this wasn't actually happening. I might still be asleep by the stream, and this was just another dream. I remembered how bad of an idea it was to keep the bullet in, but my reality was crashing in on me, and my legs felt like they were on fire. The next thing I knew, the welcoming blackness finally decided to engulf me.

What a shitty week.

Notes:

My OC always gets the short end of the stick T^T. Sorry, little bean.

I don't like how I wrote the ending. It feels to fast for me. T^T

Also, the tag "Angst with a Happy Ending", I promise there will be a happy ending!

Also here is Info about my OC:

Nothing more, not even sharp bones, though he is about to change the length.
(can’t tell you why cause it’s apart of the story) After that he will have 6 months to go back before he is ripped back into his body. Note - The early he goes back the more harder it is for him to function. (Please tell me if that makes sense T^T)
- Delta only has one weakness, That means he can’t break it nor melt out of it. It’s steel. Why? (Tbh, I didn’t want to make him more op then he is already)

Personality:
- Think of any cocky character in the media… Yep that’s him. Suppperrr cocky and can be vary childish at times.
- Although when the time is right (for him), he can be scarily serious.
- Has no social cues what so ever but he learns to mimic others really well.
- Can say very fucked up things (about others and himself), but he’s not doing it intensionally (as shown above)
- Ok, this next part is VERY and I mean VERY similar to Killer sans.

It’s not noticeable, but if you are trying to looking for it, you can tell.
