Chapter 1: Good-bye
Chapter Text
He was kind…
Selfless…
Gentle, but still ruled with an iron fist.
His Majesty, King Regis Lucis Caelum was a wonderful man for the things he had done throughout his time life as the ruler of Lucis. And everyone adored him. But his one true selfless act was the day he visited Altissia for a diplomatic mission…
An orphanage had caught the eyes of lush green eyes of his majesty. The young king almost in his prime, wandered inside the small shelter with his guards in tow. There was something about the little building that drew him in. A certain power…a certain presence. The caregivers hurried when they heard the door open up. Only to be baffled in their wake, seeing the king of a foreign land basking in his presence. He held a hand to the bumbling women as they ceased their scrambling and moved passed them with such grace. Suddenly a swarm of children was at his majesty’s feet and amongst the fleet of smiling and happy children…the one he spotted was different from the rest.
A small girl around the same age as his son. She had obsidian lock that was in kinks and curls, big brown, almost golden eyes smoldering like the hottest of embers and glow in the sun’s beams. And beautiful chocolate skin. A child that was different but regardless still needs love. She looked up at his majesty, not in awe…but with indifference. Out of all the children who made a fuss over the king. Regis picked her. The energy he felt from outside the orphanage came from this little one here. It seems she knew he wanted her to come with him as she stood with her arms held out in a pick me up motion. Regis smiled as he reached down to pick her up and all the other kids booed and hissed when he grabbed her causing the kings to frown and the caregivers tried to dissuade his majesty of other choices. He had to once again silence them and insist. “I will not hear of this. It is perfectly clear this child is mistreated among the other children.” He stated angrily and showed his distaste of the state of the orphanage. Reluctantly they brought his majesty the adoption forms.
After filling out the paperwork, his majesty took his new daughter away from that dreadful place. “Now let’s get you out of those filthy rags my dear.” He smiled as the young girl stared at him with those big golden eyes of hers. She was covered in dirt from head to toe while those other kids were clean and dressed in neat clothing, while she wore a simple dress that used to be white and was considered to be a rag. And off they went to enjoy the Altissian breeze as he continued his diplomatic mission with his daughter in tow.
Senator Claustra was amazed at the good deed that was done by the king today as well as many others, adoption being one of the many things. Camelia stared down the adorable girl with a facial expression that matched hers. “I see you’ve decided to adopt a child of Altissian descent. But this one…isn’t like the other children.” The cranberry skirt suit shifted as she sat upon her desk eyeing the pair. “Yes, I felt that presence firsthand. Also, it seems as if the caregivers were mistreating her…so I decided to take her.” Regis placed a large hand onto the head of the small girl as she stared up at him with a thumb in her mouth. A fond smile graced his lips as he watched her. “Well, your Majesty. I’ll approve your paperwork…just please take care of her.” Her face then showed one of concern as Regis smiled and walked away. “Thank you, Senator Claustra.”
On the ride home on the royal vessel, Regis watched the tiny girl in his lap sleep with a gentle smile on his face. In his mind he knew why he picked her…by the grace of the six he knew his fate was to be intertwined with hers. Both he and his son, Noctis. He noticed that he couldn’t keep calling her the girl or tiny. So, as of now she became Aurora Rose Lucis Caelum. A name befitting a princess of Insomnia.
The ride wasn’t terribly long on the large body of water. Regis just happened to be groggy and fell asleep and the ride back to Insomnia went faster than they knew it. And when they got there in the Regalia; his Majesty was fully awake and ready to face his son. He got out of the car with little Aurora in tow behind him, dressed in her new black tennis dress. He thought she was so adorable the way her little legs carried her as she then walked beside him holding his fingers. “Your majesty.” Cor placed his fist to his heart and bowed. “At ease.” Said Regis and Cor’s cobalt orbs looked over at the tiny girl holding his hand. The older man chuckled seeing his king in such an adorable predicament. She looked up at the giggling man with big golden eyes before Regis bent down and picked her up.
“Cor, this is my daughter. Princess Aurora Rose Lucis Caelum, I adopted her today while I was in Altissia.” Regis smiled as the 5-year-old Aurora looked up at him before a small smile appeared onto her face. Cor then looked to his king. “Your majesty. His highness Prince Noctis is waiting for you in the library.” Regis had just remembered that he needed to see his son…so he took his new little Princess and walked to the library.
And just like that the three fated ones had come together. The 8-year-old Prince Noctis ran up to his father with excitement written across his face until he had seen the 5-year-old in his father’s arms. And with a smile Regis placed the little girl in front of Noctis whom she stared at with her thumb in her mouth. “Noctis this is Aurora Rose, your sister.” The boy had an unsure look upon his face at first as he stared at the girl who looked so much different than he did. The prince smiled softly at her and reached out than took the hand that wasn’t occupied and pulled her along to play with Lunafreya and himself. Regis watched as the younger girl opened up slowly to the two older kids and finally a full-fledged smile bloomed. Cor came to his King’s side and watched the three young ones before them.
“Your Majesty, pardon my rudeness. But is there a reason you adopted this child?” The Marshall asked watching the royal next him from the corner of his eye. Regis grinned knowingly. “It was by the will of the six. Something drew me to her, an energy I felt…” He began to explain…but stopped because he’d be giving too much away. He loved being as rambunctious as he was when he was but a young man. Cor chuckled knowing exactly what his majesty was up too. The Prince had a new playmate. Regis also wanted to see who his son would choose in the future. The oracle or the new mysterious sibling the young Prince acquired.
11 years later
“Rosie!” I heard a voice call for me as I began getting ready for the day. A knock was at the door soon enough as I got up to open it. It was Noctis preparing to knock once more. He was hunched over mid knock, looking up at me with a surprised look in his sapphire eyes. “Yes Noct?” I smiled as he straightened his posture and scratched the back of his head. “Father wanted me to come and collect you from your room. He said we had a lot to discuss.” He was unsure of what Papa wanted of us and I was curious myself. “Okay, let me finished getting dressed and I’ll be out.” And as I finished my thought Noctis’s eyes travelled down to my current attire. A black pleated skirt that stopped 3 inches above my knees and a black off the shoulder crop-top, with black lace thigh high socks. “Hurry.” He bit his lip as I turned away and closed the door and in doing so, I also bit my bottom lip. Fuck. He was checking me out…that’s the result that I wanted. Today was supposed to be pretty nice out so I wanted to dress nice but cool for the weather. Maybe I’ll have Ignis make some lavender tea and chocolate chip cookies to have out in the garden. I was putting on gray eye shadow and some clear lip gloss to complete the look. I sighed and looked up at the ceiling when grabbing my black converse to put on my feet. Something felt off as much as I wanted to be excited, and it had everything to do with Noctis…the man I ended up falling in love with. I think Papa already knows this and he’s going to rain on my parade. Putting my shoes on my feet, I got up and finally left my room.
Finally reaching the throne room, the guards opened the entrance leading inside. Once I entered, they were shut immediately behind me. I looked dead ahead with my head held high in the presence of my father. I looked over slightly at Noctis who looked slightly bothered at whatever conversation was had. I stood before the throne and bowed. “Good morning, your majesty. To what do I owe this honor?” I presented myself in the way I was taught by the royal tutors that were given to me at a young age. “Stand tall, my Wayward daughter. It is time we talked about a serious matter.” He began, “As a member of the royal family, it is almost your 16th birthday my dear and that means it is time to officially crown you as the Princess of Lucis.” I stood as he commanded and looked up into his forest green eyes as he watched me…gauging my reactions. “And as much as it pains me to say, it is also time to find a suitor. Noctis has his wedding to the Oracle Lunafreya Nox Fleuret within 2 years’ time.” Again, another gauge to my reaction. Nothing once again and Papa took this as a sign to continue the conversation. He knows…he knew that I was in love with Noctis, and it hurt to know that he was going to be wed to our long-time friend. So…I guess everything we’ve been through was a lie? He took me on my first date… not that long ago. The lazy man would also get me flowers…take me on walks through Insomnia. I wanted to tear up right then and there, but I needed to save face and show Papa that what he’s doing does not faze me. I was zoning out as he was speaking, but I tuned back in for the most important parts. “My dear, within a weeks’ time we shall be holding a large celebration for your unveiling and your birthday celebration. Ex-Prince and high commander Ravus will be pleased by how much you’ve grown.” I stiffened at the thought of marrying Ravus Nox Fleuret...oh god. He’s handsome but strict and for fuck’s sake, he works for the empire! “Now my children that will be all.” He dismissed the both of us as we bowed one last time before leaving.
As the doors closed, I stood with my back facing Noctis as he turned to me. “Rosie…I was going to tell you. I couldn’t…I didn’t want to spoil our time. We were having so much fun being together.” I began to cry hearing him make excuses. I clenched my fists tightly when I felt him get closer and gently grab my shoulder. “Noctis please. Don’t touch me.” I warned with a wavering voice as he tried to tug me towards him which angered me exponentially. “I said don’t touch me!” I screamed angrily before raising my right hand and struck him across the face. He was in shock at what just happened, why did this have to happen? He wondered.
Noctis
He watched her walk away from him in a hurry while holding his reddened cheek. The woman he loved was furious as he was. Ravus? What was his father thinking? It was bad enough he was already to be wed to Luna…he lost his Rosie for good maybe. He thought, but he didn’t want to think about that…He wanted to make things right with his love. He mulled it over long enough, finally deciding to chase after her.
Chapter 2: Parting Ways
Chapter Text
Noctis had went searching in all of Rosie’s favorite places. It had been a couple of hours since she had slapped him and stormed off. It made him feel terrible, that it had ended this way. The prince was getting ready to enter the kitchen, until he heard Ignis’s hushed whisper along with someone else’s. Noctis couldn’t quite put his finger on it. So, he stayed quiet and listened.
“Are you sure this is the right decision?”
“I don’t care Iggy; I’m not going to continue being hurt…”
He heard Ignis sigh. “Your highness,” He heard Ignis begin once again, but it wasn’t what he was worried about. His heart began to thump wildly in his chest. He knew exactly who Ignis was talking too…it was his Rosie…his sweet Rosie. His face began to flush as he listened to them once more. “I’d be happy to be there with you; while you speak to your father I mean. But do you think he’d be alright with this?” He asked her. “It’s worth a shot Iggy.” She retorted as I heard them shuffle around, getting ready to move.
~~~
In the Audience chambre, sat my father once again staring down at me with those deep forest green eyes. He had a questioning look in his eyes, switching over from the Royal Advisor and I. “Aurora, what brings you and Sir Scientia?” He asked eyeing over us suspiciously which caused me to sigh heavily and looked up into his eyes. “Papa, I want to move out of the Citadel after my coronation.” I requested as he stroked his beard. He looked as if he were thinking long and hard about it. The grip on his scepter tightened, when he watched me rock back and forth on the balls of my heels. And eyed Ignis who stood there confidently. “May I ask why, my daughter?” The king inquired. “Papa, I’m in love with Noctis…as you’ve already figured. Since he is now to be married to the Oracle Lunafreya, I have no reason to remain here with him around. It…it hurts too much to be here.” I finished, holding my heavy heart as I stared deeply into his eyes. It took no time for him think. “I will grant your wish, my child. You will have your privacy. And many servants that will look after you.” I nodded, then bowed and turned to leave with Ignis following behind me, “Aurora…” My father called. I paused and turned to look at him. “Please make sure to visit your dear father.” He grinned as I nodded and walked off.
3 hours later
After speaking with my father, he had already prepared for my move, into an apartment building owned by the royal family. The servants were packing up my room and all other items to move out. I was walking towards the garden, going a brief walk to quell the throbbing pain of my head. So many thoughts racing through my mind…I will be anointed the princess of this beautiful country but without the love of my life. But I can look on the Brightside. Even though Ravus is way serious I’m sure he’d make a wonderful husband. I hope.
Suddenly I walked into a hard chest. “I-I’m sorry.” I backed away and looked up once I apologized. “Oh, Gladio it’s you.” My cheeks flushed as he grinned down at me. “Well, Princess. Sexy as always.” Such a flirt as always. I thought to myself as he took my hand in his and lifted it towards his lips. I smiled as I felt his lips touch my knuckle. “I heard your moving out of the Citadel, angel.” He looked down at me with that molten hot amber gaze. Every time Gladio stared at me with that ferocious gaze it makes me feel so hot, like he’s going to devour me at any given moment. I nodded as he frowned and yanked me closer to his body.
“Do you really have to go? Ignis told me what happened. I just don’t want Noct to be the reason you leave.”
“Titan, I can’t help the way I feel. I don’t want to suffer because I can’t have him.” I looked him in the eyes and gave him a fake smile. I pulled my hand away from him gently and backed away slowly. “I’ll see you before I lea—” I was cut off feeling those large hands gripping my waist tightly, pulling me back towards his hard ripping body. He never failed to make me feel so tiny in comparison to him, considering I only went up to his chest. I placed my hands on his pectoral muscles and stared into his warm amber orbs that always seem to bore deep within me. “You shouldn’t have to leave because of Noct.” He used the hand that wasn’t on my waist to guide my head closer to his as he bent down…our noses almost touching. “That’s the thing…I do.” With his grip softening, I pulled away from him and walked away from him. I didn’t know what he’d want from me…I can’t just stay…because once Noctis and Lunafreya are married to one another; there will be no place for me here.
After walking away Noctis had finally came out into the garden where he was once again looking for Aurora. Searching for her to tell her how he feels about her. But all he came out to; were his gigantic friend and trainer Gladio. “Gladio, have you seen Rosie?” The giant man, whose back was facing him had finally turned to look at his wayward prince. “I have. But I wouldn’t tell highness where to find her.” Gladio glowered at the raven-haired Prince who matched the intensity of his gaze.
“Fine. Don’t tell me…I’ll figure out on my own.” Noctis seethed as he stomped off.
Within a few hours my room had already been emptied and I was to stay in a guest room until the coronation is over. Ignis stood by my side with Prompto who was fixing the strap on his camera. He grinned and looked up at Ignis and I. “Should I get Noct and Gladio so we can take a group photo? Considering this would be our last one?” The blonde pointed the camera towards me as I shook my head. “No. That wouldn’t be a good idea. I’m not seeing eye to eye with his majesty at the moment.” I looked away from them. Ignis stayed quiet already knowing the situation between Noctis and myself, it seems as though he wants me to explain what is happening to Prompto, and so I did. The whole marriage with Lunafreya…him not telling me. Having to hear from papa was like rubbing salt into an already infected wound. Prompto pulled me into his arms and rocked me back and forth in an attempt to calm my frazzled nerves. “Well Rosie, if you wanted to talk, we still could.” My eyes grew the size of dinner plates hearing his voice as I separated myself from Prompto and stared over at the Prince in mild annoyance. “I don’t want to speak with you.”
“Rosie, be reasonable…” Noctis stepped forward which in turn I stepped back. “You want me to be reasonable? When I should have heard this from you, and not father!?” I screamed at him. I just wanted him to understand why this was such a big deal for me…why I would rather have heard it from his own mouth instead of someone else’s. “You selfish bastard.” I sniffed and turned away.
“Don’t you walk away from me woman. You don’t get to walk away!?” I ignored him and continued to walk away from him until I reached the end of the halls. “And you don’t get to be selfish.” And disappeared around the corner.
“ROSIE! ROSIE!? LET GO OF ME!?” Noctis was screaming and thrashing about as Ignis and Prompto held him firmly in their grasps. “Your highness! This is unbecoming of you, I insist you stop this immediately!?” Ignis scolded the dark-haired Prince who suddenly went limp in his arms. Tears were flowing down his cheeks, from his brilliant blues. His frustration and anger could no longer be contained…so it was let out in a multitude of tears. “B-but I…how could I just let her go?” Noctis slumped in his friends’ arms as they slowly let him go so, he could slide to the floor. “Acting impulsively isn’t going. To make her highness want to talk to you, Noct.” He was chided by his royal advisor. “Dude, Iggy’s right. Wait, isn’t her birthday ball the after the coronation?” Ignis nodded while comforting the Prince. “Then there you have it! You’ll have to be cool though and maybe she’ll talk to you there.” Prompto grinned but deep down…he wanted to see if he could get the Princess alone herself.
Noctis looked up at his friends with hopeful tear-filled eyes. “You guys really think that would work?” He sniffled and wiped his nose with a handkerchief that Ignis handed to him. “If you manage to hold your composure. It just may work. Good work, Prompto.” The brunette complimented Prompto who then gave a bashful grin. “I have good ideas every now and again. Ha-ha.” Both men helped picked the dark-haired prince off of the ground and helped him to walk.
~~~
Within a week’s time everything was perfect. Papa had the citadel just the way he wanted, pristine and perfect. Everything was happening within that weekend. It was such a grand event, he even invited that of Niflheim. That means that tonight, both Ravus and Lunafreya will be here…I don’t want tonight to happen. These few days dealing with Noctis has already been enough to deal with.
Ignis had brought me breakfast to my favorite spot in the garden. An egg white omlette, with chicken sausage and some apple slices. He knew how much I loved simple small breakfasts and it’s a wonder I didn’t fall completely in love with the royal advisor instead. I blushed when looking up to meet those beautiful jade green orbs. “I did something a little special with your breakfast today, darling. Instead of just a regular omlette, I incorporated some cheese as well as included the meat from your chicken sausage inside as well. And as for your apple slices, I placed upon some French toast and brought for you a cup of espresso.” His eyes never left mine as he spoke. I’m not sure what it is about Ignis…but his language oozes food and sex appeal. Once he lifted the lid from my platter, he took the knife and fork and cut into the soft and fluffy omlette that looked so neat and delicious. “I-Iggy it’s okay…I can feed myself—” He was quick to shush me. His eyes stayed on their position to stare into my entirety. “Allow me your highness. After all, it is your birthday.” Ignis forked a piece of the omlette and held it to my lips. “Say ‘ah’ darling.~” He commanded with sultry smile stretching across his lips. I hesitated…but slowly parted my lips so he could place the flavorful morsel onto my awaiting tongue. Once he did, I closed my mouth and chewed slowly never breaking eye contact with the green-eyed royal advisor. “You look so gorgeous when you enjoy my culinary prowess.” For the rest of the morning, I was fed my breakfast by Ignis…it had me blushing the entire the time. But it kept a smile along his flawless face.
Later, I was taking a stroll around the city shopping district to look for an outfit. And there was where I found Prompto who also happened to be shopping as well. “Your highness! What are you doing out by yourself?” The blonde male grinned and decided to stick my side for the duration of our outing. “I’m looking for a dress. Would you mind helping me Prom?” His bright cornflower eyes lit up with excitement. “It would be my honor, Rosie!” He grabbed me and pulled into one of the most expensive stores in Insomnia. I began to freak out and look around frantically. “I-I don’t know about this…I don’t think I should be here…” I whispered until Prompto wrapped his arms around me and spoke 10x over his usual volume. “Don’t be silly, anyone would LOVE TO HELP THE PRINCESS OF INSOMNIA find the perfect dress for her events.” I heard a scream from the back of the store and people being pushed. “Your highness. You are here non?” There was a very flashy dressed Altissian man with a pencil mustache, glossed lips and wearing a black beret. “I am here…” I squeaked as his eyes zeroed in on me. “Ah there you are! His majesty was adamant on I to make le dress for you! Such a beauty, the embodiment of a goddess!” He praised as Prompto gently pushed me forward towards the man. “Ah, your father will sing me praises, non?” He smiled at me and gently grabbed my hand. I looked back at Prompto who nodded and gave a thumbs up. “I’ll be right here Rosie!” He waved. “Le blonde, is he your lover Cherie?” Asked the stylist as he took me to his back studio to make measurements. I blushed and looked down. “No. He’s just a really great friend.” The man grinned. “If I were a lover of women. I’d be happy to court you!” We both laughed as he worked. He was actually very funny and sweet…I learned his name was Jacques De Leone, and that my assumption was right. He was a male of Altissian decent. He was so nice that I found a friend in him. We exchanged numbers once he finished and fixed up the perfect dress for. “I shall see you in a few hours, Cherie!” He bid me farewell and true to his word as I came back. Prompto stood in the front of the store waiting for me with his back facing towards me. So, I decided to sneak up on him and playfully kiss his cheek which caused the blonde to scream and jump. “Surprise! That’s what you get for not paying attention!” I stuck my tongue out and grabbed his hand.
“Come on! We need to get back to the Citadel!” I noticed his freckled cheeks glow red as we ran back towards the largest structure in Insomnia.
Once I returned back to the Citadel, I went towards the temporary room that I was using to get ready in. I had some servants leave some accessories and shoes out for selection. As well as some make up for choosing. Jacques had chosen the perfect for such an occasion, one of the grandest he had. It was an obsidian-colored gown that emphasized my figure and touched the floor. The gown was made to expose my cleavage and bit of my midriff with gold trimming outlying that specific area. The main attraction was actually the train of the gown which caused me to need assistance to put it on. It was a beautiful off shoulder gown for both events. And what made it better, the train was removable. A bath had already been prepared since I’ve been home…so I enjoyed soaking in the scent of oats, milk, and honey. The smell was amazing and left my skin amazingly soft. I had to thank whoever made this bath for me.
Once I got out of the bath, I was ready to be dressed and pampered. The work on my hair already begun. It was straightened and made shiny to perfection. They sure knew how to work a flat iron very well. Before anything else my skin was moistened with coco butter lotion, the dress was finally placed onto my body and zipped from behind. “Your highness; Gladiolus Amicitia is here to see you.” They announced as I sat in the chair in front of the vanity. “I guess you can let him inside.” I smiled pushing my hair back with a hand band to let the makeup artists prep my face. “As you wish.” They bowed and left my side.
“Highness, how would like your makeup today?”
“How about natural eyes with a red lip.”
“Bold choice, Princess.”
Through the reflection in the mirror came the giant figure belonging to the son of the sworn shield. Gladio Amicitia. “What are you doing here big guy?” I asked as the artists began on my makeup. “I just came here to check on you. Today is your big day after all. It isn’t everyday that you’re crowned princess of an entire nation.” He said with a slight chuckle, he sat on the bed and watched as my makeup is being done. “True. But Gladio, shouldn’t you be with Iggy and Prompto welcoming guests?” I gazed at him curiously as he smirked and raised a box into view. “I brought you a gift.” I stayed quiet feeling them brush lipstick onto my lips.
“We are finished your highness. We’ll be on our way,” The makeup artists bowed and excused themselves leaving Gladio and I alone inside of my temporary dwelling. “What is it?” It’s a necklace…well more of choker. I think that’s what girls your age likes anyway.” The giant male stood back up and walked behind me and opened the box to remove the necklace. I blushed and moved my hair to the side so he can put the piece of jewelry on me. “You look so sexy tonight. That designer sure knew what he was doing.” I felt him inhale my scent and his lips placing careful butterfly kisses in their wake. I sighed and closed my eyes as he began to place the choker onto my neck and locked it in place. “There. It looks as good as I thought.” His deep voice flowed melodically into ears.
He backed away and turned to leave. “I’ll let you finish getting ready.” And with that he left to go finish welcoming the guests. I wanted to ask him to stay…but I didn’t know if I could do that. Considering that I was to be betrothed to Ravus Nox Fleuret; I didn’t really have a choice as to who could be with. Being the princess of an entire nation was an honor…but a lot my choices are made for me. I sighed once more and put on my favorite pair of gold hoop earrings in front of me. I won’t complain, I got a family out of this ordeal albeit a little dysfunctional. But I love both of them anyway. I smiled sadly knowing that this life I had with them was coming to an end. In the grand scheme of things my love for Noctis was never meant to be because he was meant to marry Lunafreya, a woman so beautiful and beloved by everyone. An oracle and ex princess. I was nothing special compared to her…I had no one. I was an orphan destined to be alone. I learned in the Cosmology…for centuries it was destined that the Kings of Lucis was meant to have the Oracles of the Nox Fleuret rule by their side. The urge to cry was eminent. But I held myself together and went to go put on my satin black platform heels.
KNOCK KNOCK
There were two knocks on my door. “Come in.” I called as the door opened and in came Ignis, who might I say was drool worthy dressed to perfection. He already dressed in a suit regularly, but this was more formal, the color of his suit deeper than the other. No tie and his hair that was usually coifed and spiked high was styled to be down. Fuck, he looked so delicious. “Are you ready, your majesty? Everyone is waiting.” I nodded as I stood and walked slowly towards his side and linked arms with him as he guided me to the coronation chamber.
It took less than a minute to finally reach our location. We didn’t go through the same entrance as everyone else. I was to wait until Papa finally called on me to come out. Ignis left me with a kiss on the cheek and went to stand in the front of the room next to Noctis. Papa came before the crowd wearing his crown and scepter in hand and began to address everyone.
“My most loyal subjects. Today is a most momentous occasion. And I appreciate everyone here in attendance. Besides my wayward son. I have yet another child to introduce to the Kingdom of Lucis, and what a wonderful day it is for her to had been born into this world. A woman who is deserving of this opportunity as my child and a citizen of our lovely nation. Please, let me introduce the new princess of our fair and ever-growing nation,” He paused looking at everyone in the room, people from all around each corner of Eos and from Lucis itself. “Aurora Rose Lucis Caelum our beloved Crown Princess.”
That was my cue. With my head held high; I walked out with the utmost poise and grace that I was taught at such a young age. Beating each lesson into my brain as many times as humanly possible. Hearing the ooo’s and ah’s of everyone around had empowered me increasingly. By the time I reached my father, he had reached the podium behind him and took a tiara from the red satin pillow as I bowed my head. I felt the eyes of the Prince over run over my form but not only his but someone else. I suddenly felt a small weight on my head signifying that tiara has been placed. The small ornate crown held a significant weight, littered with small gemstones and a heavy responsibility.
“Rise now Princess Aurora Rose Caelum,”
His voice speaking volumes, echoed across the chamber. I rose and faced the crowd.
“Do you solemnly swear to serve your kingdom and its citizens? Decree your everlasting loyalty to the Kingdom of Lucis and its remaining monarch? And lastly to do right by your family in times of need whether it be diplomatic or personal?” Father asked. “Yes, your majesty. I Aurora Rose Lucis Caelum solemnly swear to serve my kingdom and it’s denizens. Decree my everlasting loyalty to the Kingdom of Lucis and to thy father. And to do right by my family in times of need whether it be diplomatic or personal.” I repeated back to him as he handed me the scepter. “All arise and acknowledge our newly crowned Princess.” My father rose his voice and commanded as everyone kneeled.
“All hail the Princess!”
15 minutes later
The ball had officially begun, and everyone happened to be enjoying the festivities. I spoke to those who approached and sat down to rest from walking around all day. “Are you thirsty?”
“Yes please. Thank you.” I looked up to the person who spoke to me. It happened to be my soon to be betrothed. “Ravus…” He smirked and settled himself next to me and handed me the other drink in his hand.
“You don’t seem to be enjoying your own party.” I noticed the silver haired man look over at me with those mismatched eyes. “No, it’s not that I’m not enjoying myself. I just have a lot of things on my mind.” I stared up into his gorgeous eyes, one side of his lips curled up into a smirk. “Dance with me.” I was surprised to hear the high commander demand that I dance with him…he hardly seems like the type. We both put our drinks down as he held his hand out to me; I accepted as he pulled me into his chest and out to the dance floor with other couples dancing.
“Tell me. It’s the Prince, isn’t it?” My eyes went wide at his not so wrong accusation.
“You’re not wrong. Was it that obvious?”
“Even the untrained eye could tell you were crazy about that fool, Princess.”
The magitek arm around my waist had tightened slightly, crushing my chest against his.
“You’ve grown so much…In the 11 years I haven’t seen you. And to think I’d be the one to marry you. Instead of the foolish boy.” He said spinning me around. The look in his usually cold gaze, filled with mirth and adoration in this moment made me feel extremely warm. I grinned. I thought tonight was going to be a dull one. Until…
“Mind if I cut in?”
Mid dance I saw Ravus’s somewhat gentle face turn up into a snarl. He pulled me back into his chest and held on while coldly staring at the intruding individual. “I do mind. What do you want?” I recognized that voice. “I would like to dance with Rosie. If you’d please.” Ravus rolled his eyes and relinquished his hold upon me and backed away as I turned to meet the glowing blue eyes of Prince Noctis Lucis Caelum. I sighed…six why is that you hate me so? I’m trying to get over him having to marry Lunafreya. But this? Why is this so hard…? He held his hand out for me to take and hesitantly I took it as he pulled me into his chest. He wrapped an arm around my waist as we began to move, and I looked down so I wouldn’t have to look at him. “Can I please see those gorgeous eyes?” I shook my head. I didn’t want to speak to him, I couldn’t even look at the Prince. “I wanted to apologize for my uncouth behavior this week. I should’ve just talked to you…” Hearing those words fall from his lips made me look up at him in wonder. “You…you’re apologizing?” He grinned staring deeply into my eyes. “I am. I didn’t want to leave things as they were. I know I’m engaged to Luna and I should’ve talked to you…but," He paused.
"I’m…I’m in love with you Rosie.”

Chapter Text
“ I’m…I’m in love with you Rosie.”
I was completely and mesmerized by his honeyed words. Both Lunafreya and Ravus were participating at the ball. But seemingly the Prince didn’t give a damn. He had a look of love in his eyes and that was all he cared about at this moment. But there I couldn’t…Not again. “Rosie, you don’t have to say anything. Just follow me.” We stopped moving on the dance floor and he gently pulled me along to follow him. I didn’t say anything just as he had said as he lead me to an area that only he and I knew of as small children. I gasped as he guided me to the single stone bench in the middle of clearing. “It’s our spot.” I finally spoke as we both sat on the bench together. “I’m glad that you remember. We haven’t been here in sometime.” He took my hand in his and pulled it over to his lap as he held it. I blushed and looked away from the usually stoic man.
“Why am I here Noctis?” He gazed at me for a moment, his eyes glowing with anticipation until a gentle smile graced his lips. “This is where I want to properly profess my love to you.” He then stood in front of me still holding my hands, looking down at me, his eyes were filled with so much love. When in all honesty he should save that gaze for Lunafreya…I don’t want to continue loving him when there is another woman that he is supposed to be with. “What? But the people we are supposed to be betrothed too are here! Are you crazy?” I said to him with a distraught expression etched onto my face, but the wayward prince only shook his head in disagreement. “No, I’m not. I just don’t care princess.” He yanked me from my seat as I roughly landed into his chest, his hands quick to find purchase upon my waist. “N-Noctis!” I called out as I looked up at him in surprise. He was looking at me with that same gaze that Ravus was giving me inside the ballroom. “I…I know you still feel the same way. Otherwise, You still wouldn’t be here.” He finally said to me, his gaze was borderline intense as fuck. It was like he was seeing right through me. “I-yes, I still do love you. But understand this is so wrong on so many levels you idiot.” The prince only chuckled as he used his other hand to grip my chin so my gaze wouldn’t stray from his.
“I don’t care. Two years from now…I’ll still feel the same way and there’s nothing that Luna or Ravus can do about it.” With that being said Noctis brought himself to close the gap between us and our lips finally met in a sweet kiss that I did not once reject. “You look so gorgeous tonight. I couldn’t stand the way that he had his hands on you tonight. Only I should be able to touch you.” I scoffed and rolled my eyes as we parted. “Oh please. You can’t technically do anything, considering your lovely bride to be…” I tried to separate from Noctis who had ended up tightening up his grip on my waist which caused me to flinch. “Ouch! Noct calm down!” I called out but he only brought me closer to him. “I-I can’t…I won’t…at least let me prove that I’m worthy of you..” Worthy? Is this fool out of his mind but I still couldn’t deny my feelings for him. “Fine.” I sighed as he breathed a sigh of relief and relinquished his grip upon me. “I love you so much, Rosie.” “I-I love you too Noctis.” I hesitated but I was sure about my feelings for him. I don’t think I could ever stop loving him…my life wouldn’t be what it was without Papa and Noct as a whole. I wish it didn’t have to be this way between us that we didn’t have to be Prince and Princess also having all of this responsibility that is keeping us apart. He stared down at me with a smile and pulled me into him roughly. He gave me a small peck on the lips as he began to move us in the motion of a waltz. “You...can we still see each other?” “Noctis, I don’t think that would be a good idea. When you and Lunafreya are married…I won’t be able to live in the Citadel anymore. I can’t stick around and watch you two.” He laid his forehead upon my shoulder and sighed heavily…he couldn’t believe his ears. Noctis didn’t want to live his life apart from the woman that he loves. “I wish things didn’t have to be like this.” He whispered. After that it was a blur how long it’d been since then. I went back and spent time with Ravus and enjoyed the rest of my night. Noctis “Are you going to continue to do such reckless things?” “Why must you do this to me!?” All this yelling and for what? I finally wanted to break the cycle of these marriage’s without love. I didn’t Love Luna…and he’s always said I’d learn too. But I don’t know if I could. “Noctis, how do you think it looks when you disappear for the rest of the night? Especially when you take Aurora with you. People will talk.” “And since when does his majesty, the King of Lucis care if commoners talk? Stop getting in my way. I love her!” “Enough!” Father screamed as he stood. The pained look on his face killed me more than anything. He knew what this was doing to me, and I couldn’t take much more of this. “I forbade her from loving you, in favor of your marriage to the Oracle; Lunafreya.” My eyes were blown wide with rage…I couldn’t believe that he would stoop so low just to get me to do what is what’s right by him and the kingdom. I know it’s my duty as the prince. But what’s the point if I cannot have anything genuine in my life…it’s all meaningless in the long run. “She’s moving out, to make room for you and your charming bride to be. It was per her request to leave.” “No…no! I won’t let you separate us!?” I declared. “Cease this at once!” Father screamed but all I had done was ignore him and try to find her before she left. I spotted Ignis and Gladio talking near the kitchen and went to ask. “Have you guys seen Rosie? She didn’t leave yet, did she?” Neither man said a word. Which confirmed my suspicions…she’s gone? “Sorry, highness she couldn’t bare the heartache.” Ignis said with a frown. Gladio hadn’t said a word to me since the other day. Is it because of what happened? So…that’s it then. 1 year and 5 months year later It’s been a year since I removed myself from the citadel. I haven’t seen Ignis, Gladio, Prompto or Noctis since my fast departure. I’ve been happily living my life whilst still retaining my duties as Princess of Lucis. In the midst of it, I’ve been seeing Ravus, who had been coming to visit me a lot lately. “Darling.” I looked at Ravus whose piercing heterochronic orbs have been staring down at me while we were lounging on the sofa. “Yes, Ravus?” I snuggled further against him. This isn’t wrong…I was going to be betrothed to him after all…so it’s only natural to shack up with my fiancé. Ravus Nox Fleuret…descendant of the Oracle bloodline—it’s starting to make sense now. Even though only women could be the oracle. He still has the blood running through his veins. That sly old fox! “Your new look, it’s very amusing.” He’s referring to my various tattoos, piercings, and wardrobe change. The biggest part was my hair was naturally changing at the tips. It was as white as snow. “Are you sure, you didn’t bleach your tips?” He picked up a strand of hair. “I’m sure. It just began sometime last year.” He wrapped an arm around my waist and pulled me against him. “R-Ravus…” His large form was already over mine within a moment’s notice, his eyes were half lidded and lips so close to my own. He's been very respectful of my boundaries; we haven’t even had our first kiss yet. Did he…? Did he want to take things a step further? “You look so alluring. I thought you looked beautiful before,” He paused before raking his eyes over my body. “Your just saying that.” I looked away from those prying mismatched eyes with a rising blush onto my cheeks. “Never.” I felt the cold metal of his magitek arm, as he cupped my cheek with his hand. I shivered at the slight chill of the metal from his arm and closed my eyes. “Look at me, my princess.” Doing as he says, I looked into those smoldering eyes as his lips finally came down upon my own. I gasped and grasped his forearm and closed my eyes to fully enjoy the coolness of lips against mine. It made me feel so hot, I loved how he made me feel at this very moment…he respected everything that I did, listened to what I said and the latter. He gave one peck. Then another. Then another. Then another. He pulled away and leaned his forehead against my own. We were both breathing heavily and staring deeply into one another. “You’re so wonderful, Aurora. I can’t wait to be your husband. But darling…you’ve had this distant look in your eyes.” My eyes grew wide at his sudden observation. Distant? I haven’t noticed. “I haven’t noticed—” I felt his finger touch my lips to shush me. “Do you miss them? You’re friends, I mean.” When he said it, I never really thought about it until now. Have I really been thinking about them and just shrugging it off? Gladio, Prompto, and Ignis…they haven’t done anything wrong. Maybe I’ve been so selfish to not keep in contact. Oh gosh. “I’ll take my leave darling. I’ll be on business for a while. So, It’ll give you time for your friends.” He smiled and as much as it was surprising to see it. He was already leaving. “I’ll see you soon.” He lifted me off of the sofa and gave a soft peck to my forehead and left. Ravus couldn’t be any sweeter whilst we were alone, and he was telling me to contact my friends…something I didn’t think he’d say. I sighed and pulled out my cellphone then plopped back onto the sofa. Here goes everything…I dialed Ignis’s phone number then waited as his phone rang, I didn’t expect Iggy to answer due to my number being changed. I was mulling over in my thoughts until I finally heard it. “This is Ignis.” “Iggy!” I heard him hum chuckle. “Highness, is that you? It’s been so long.” “Yes…I’m so sorry Ignis—” “No need to apologize your highness. Was there a reason you called?” “Yeah. I would like to see you guys again. I feel bad for just disappearing the way I did. I’ll give you my address…” “Of course, we’d love too. I’ll let the guys know.” I heard his smile over the speaker, and it made me so happy to finally hear him once again. “I’ll let the other gentlemen know and procure some snacks.” “Yes!” We hang up the phone as I cheered. I’m so excited to see my friends again, it’s been so long since I was around anyone else besides the servants and Ravus. Papa is going to be sending me a tutor pretty soon, so it wouldn’t just be the servants being around. I began to clean, but of course I was sat down by the maids as they heard the Prince’s retinue was coming, they took over clean up duty. “Your highness.” This woman speaking to me, was my caretaker while Papa was away. She no longer had the role; but still worked in the Citadel and for that I was grateful. “Illyanna, what is it?” I looked up at her with a small smile as she bowed. She had greyed significantly over the years, due to her old age of course! “We’ve finished cleaning. Did you want dinner to be made?” She was always so sweet to me, and it made me count myself lucky to have her in my life. “No thank you. Ignis and the guys will be over soon. Which means everyone can go home for the evening.” I grinned as she bowed once more and moved from her spot to round up the rest of the servants to leave. I sat on the sofa with my legs pressed against my chest and pouted while deep in thought. I know that I missed them but was this truly the right move to make? I’m always in my mind…that’s the drawback of living on your own something I never thought about. Making up scenarios that don’t make sense or ones that’ll never happen. KNOCK KNOCK I was knocked out of my thoughts from the sound of knuckles rapping on the door. I believe this was for the better. And the boys were already here. I sighed and stood up and prepared with a labored breath as I went to the door and stared at it for a slight moment. ‘Am I ready?’ I didn’t have the time to ponder on it when they knocked more than once. I finally steeled my nerves and unlocked the door to reveal the royal retinue in their entirety standing in my doorway. Their eyes were wide as they saw me open up to let them in. “Your highness. It’s been too long.” Ignis started as he bowed, Prompto and Gladio soon followed behind him as a sign of respect. “It really has been.” Everyone froze hearing the unplaced voice no one was expecting to be there. “N-Noctis…” I looked behind Prompto to see the dark-haired prince standing behind him. He looked to be completely fed up with everything as the guys looked away ashamed as to what was going to happen next. Noctis pushed through them and towered over me, staring down with an impartial gaze. “You were inviting them and didn’t think of me. Didn’t you?” That accusatory tone that he had was very unfair. “Noctis…I—what are you doing here—…” I was cut off when I was pushed inside, and everyone filed in. I looked up into those familiar blue eyes and flinched once he glared down at me. “What are you doing here, Noct?” “I followed you guys. You said you were going to a movie.” He didn’t even bother to look back the three of them and just kept his eyes upon me. “You’ve changed…ever since you’ve been engaged to Ravus. Tattoos…the hair?” Noctis paused as he towered over me. I backed away in fear as the raven-haired Prince looked over me with a scrutinizing gaze. “This was a mistake! Get the fuck out!?” I stood up and glared at Noctis. I didn’t even look back at the boys…they weren’t the ones I’m upset with; he is. “And what does it matter that my engagement to Ravus changed me? I’m still me.” I stood my ground…Ravus left just so I could have a moment with the people I cared about the most. And the man I loved is standing here berating me. “Highness. I think we should get going—” Gladio reached out to grab the ravenette’s shoulder. But it was angrily shrugged off as he gave each male a pointed glare from the corner of his eyes. “I don’t think so. You three think you’re so sneaky, thinking that you could lie to me and come see her behind my back.?” Ignis was beginning to glower at his Prince acting the way he did. “Highness that is enough!?” He raised his voice which made everyone silent. He fixed his glasses and moved over to my side as he wrapped his arm around my shoulders. “Are you out of your mind? Your highness you are out of line! If you continue on this path of destruction, you will never be able to be around her highness.” Ignis turned to look down at me. He fixed his glasses upon his face and grabbed my hand. “I truly apologize for his highness’s actions today, Princess. If you’re willing to talk this out…we’d be happy to leave your dwelling after.” He has such a bloody good way with words, and I loved how he looked at me with such an adoring gaze. I sighed and nodded my head. “Okay. I’m willing.” He gave me a gentle closed eye smile which made me feel all tingly inside…almost making me forgot the presences of Noctis, Prompto, and Gladio. I gently peeled myself away from Ignis and held my hand out to the Prince who with stared at it with a confused blush spreading along his cheeks; but took it as I walked him back towards my room and shut the door behind us. “Please, sit.” He sat down on my bed and looked up at me with that confused gaze still on me. “Why do you refuse to look at me?” He broke the sudden silence between us. I didn’t know how to answer him…his voice still raspy and low. “You’ve been unbearable…I couldn’t even look at you. I love you so much. But your behavior is inexcusable.” He reached out and took my hand from my side and gently sat me on the bed next to him. “Dad finally told me. He forbade you from loving me.” I nodded my head as I finally looked at him. “It’s the truth. In order to make the transition easier after you and Lunafreya are to be wed. I had to get out of the picture. It’s better this way.” I gave him a fake genuine smile, trying to hide the hurt I already felt. “The way you left without saying goodbye…I was devastated, princess.” “I don’t think I can apologize, Noctis. It’s just the way things are meant to be.” He sighed and with a tug, yanked me into his solid form. “What are you doing?” I asked him as his hands were slotted onto my waist. “It’s been a whole year. It’s been so long since I’ve held you…seen that beautiful smile, bathe in your sweet scent.” His face was in my hair, inhaling said. ‘sweet scent’ from my hair. “You’ve gotten even more beautiful, with our time apart.” Noctis parted from me and looked down into my eyes. My cheeks began to burn as I felt his eyes search my face. “I…I’m sorry for the way I’ve been acting. I hate the fact that you’re actually following what father says. What about how we feel; for one another?” The grip that he has on my waist is gentle never any tighter then he would have before. This is us…just he and I talking out our feelings together. “He forbade me from loving you indefinitely. But he can’t stop those feelings with a simple decree. We’re considered brother and sister in the eyes of the nation…but because I am adopted, I don’t share your blood,” I paused and stared deeply into him with teary eyes. “I’m not obligated to follow what father says. I know what and who I want. I want you Noctis. I’m in love with you and I can’t help—” And that was all it took for the Prince to finally spill over the edge. He toppled over me, my back flush against the bed as he pushed his lips onto mine in a gentle manner. Noctis groaned and took both my hands and trapped them above my head, in a gentle hold. He wanted so much more…more than what he was allowed as a man who’s already been betrothed and the same goes for me… Noctis pulled away from me with a soft wet pop as he stared down at me with soft adoring eyes. “Promise me…” I started. “Anything Rosie, you name it. I’ll do it.” “If I invite you over with the guys next time, you won’t overreact again?” He gave a once over as I took a deep breath, his hands leaving my wrists above my head to finally find purchase upon my braless chest. I gasped as he gently massaged them and played with my hardening buds with his thumbs. An intense blush spread across my face as I stared up at him through hooded eyes. A soft smile graced his features. “I promise.” He looked as if he wanted to plant another gentle kiss upon my lips…but with his thumb rubbing over my nipple through the fabric of my shirt was bothering me. “Stop it, perv.” I pushed him off gently. “Just because we’re on good terms doesn’t mean we can play tonsil tennis.” I stood up and went to let the guys inside. “Should we prepare to depart, highness?” Ignis asked walking up to meet me. I smiled and shook my head. “No, let’s watch a movie!” It was great to have all of us together again. No animosity between the prince and me. And the guys didn’t have to suffer because of it. We were all watching a scary movie and Prompto screamed for most of the parts. Poor guy! Gladio decided to be my pillow for the night, having me housed on his lap with Noctis to my left who was seemingly okay with it. Secretly I didn’t think he was. Ignis on my right and Prompto who was sitting on the floor clutching my leg. I giggled and watched him cower at the slasher film. It was like we were all back to normal. And…I loved it. That was until I heard the front door open, and we all turned around to see Ravus coming back inside. “Ravus?” I called as I felt the air get rather tense in no time. “Hello darling. I just came to see how things were faring between yourself and the gentlemen.” He seethed as he eyed the prince warily. “Everything is fine. I patched things up with Noct.” I chirped happily as he came and pat my hair lovingly. “Good. You’re father has requested we both see him at the Citadel within the week.” He said as I looked up at him with a pout. “Already? I guess it truly has been a year.” I looked over at Noctis with a grin. “Looks like you’ll be wedding your bride to be soon!” I hopped off of Gladio’s lap as I walked around the sofa to stand before Ravus. “It’ll be our turn next.” I blushed and looked away from him. I felt his lips grace my forehead as he backed away with a chuckle. “Well, I’ll be going now. I’ll see you darling.” He left again. The atmosphere went back to normal. The guys surrounded me to make sure I was alright. “Guys I’m fine. I just didn’t think this would all happen so quickly.” They all hugged me in apology. It was alright. I just wanted them all to be happy…they would forever be in Noctis’s retinue and I; would slowly be a forgotten memory.
